cycle must be urgent reforms in how police and communities interact. We must acknowledge that the tragedy of Freddie Gray’s death, and the death of others, flows from the militarization of the Baltimore Police Department, and police departments across the country. Over time, the daily injustices, the repeated instances of police brutality, the unconstitutional treatment of poor and minority people - these patterns crush people’s souls.

PRESS STATEMENT
Baltimore a City in the State of Maryland a City that was once called a “Charm City, and a State that was once The Land of Pleasant Living.” Police Officer’s and Citizens were once able to walk the streets of our City without fear and reservation. They knew each other by name and worked together collectively in fighting crime. Today there hangs a dark cloud over our beloved City. Instead of ethnically diverse striving communities that existed peacefully with each other our City is now divided into “Crime Zones.” What is a High Crime Area and a Low Crime Area”? No Human Being should be defined by the Area or Environment in which they live. It makes no difference if a person lives in a housing project or Gated Community, they should be treated and Respected Equally under the Law. There is no difference between a murder uptown and a murder downtown. To place a group of people under special surveillance and scrutiny based upon where they lived is unreasonable, unfair and discriminator. First, we are here today because our Police Department is in disarray. We no longer can distinguish who is in charge of the Police Department day to day operations. When an incident such of the one that occurred a few days ago with Mr. Freddie Gray and his untimely and unnecessary death, it seems that no one in the Police Department can Explain What Happen!! Time and Time Again This Commissioner Has Resulted to Asking Outside Agency to come in and explain what is Happening or Has Happened with Officers under His Command and Charge. Secondly, there is the
unnecessary movement to militarize our Police Department. We live in a Great City and Not A Combat Zone. The Job of the Police is to “Protect And To Serve” Not To “Seek and Destroy.” TARGETING INDIVIDUALS BASED UPON RACIAL PROFILING, ILLEGAL STOP AND FISK TO ARREST SOMEONE FOR LOOKING AT A POLICE IN A STRANGE WAYS. IS TO RETURN TO THE DAYS OF JIM CROW AND RACIAL UNEQUALITY. Great efforts have been made by our Senators and Congressman to correct many of the Bad Law Enforcement Behavior and Practices. They Have Introduced Bills to Create A Better Equal and Fair Life for Everyone. Thirdly, under this Commissioner there is A Distinct Absence of Community Policing. Extremely long on Talk but Short on Action and Implementation. As a Result of The Many Short Falls OF THIS POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE LACK OF VIABLE LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES, WE THE MINISTER’S ALLIANCE ARE DEMANDING THAT POLICE COMMISSIONER ANTHONY BATTS TENDER HIS RESIGNATION IMMEDIATELY AND A ACTING COMMISSIONER BE APPOINTED UNTIL A PERMANENT REPLACEMENT IS CHOSEN. We were also in Shock and Dismay to Hear, The Current Head of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Refer to Peaceful and Orderly Protester’s AS “A LYNCH MOB” WE DEMAND FROM HIM A WRITTEN AND PUBLIC APOLOGY

JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY Ronald J. Daniels, President of Johns Hopkins University
PRESS STATEMENT Those of us who call Baltimore home are deeply saddened by the violence that erupted across our city yesterday following the tragic death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. We condemn this violence and, in particular, its devastating effect on the neighborhoods where it occurred. Further, we join those who are endorsing the urgency of a full and independent investigation of the circumstances surrounding Mr. Gray’s death. It is essential that all of our city’s citizens have trust and confidence in professional and fair treatment by our police. We also recognize, and must acknowledge, the frustration felt in communities across this country, born of continuing racial disparities in education, employment, and criminal justice.
proud: a dynamic health, scientific, and educational sector; a thriving arts and cultural scene; and a burgeoning number of innovative businesses and community organizations. Our university takes seriously the opportunity and obligation of our role as an anchor institution within Baltimore. But as the events of the past week remind us, there is more to do. In dignified and peaceful protests across the city, we have heard the calls for reform, and we must challenge ourselves to listen and to respond. This is a trying time. But with patience, fortitude, and the determination that is our city’s trademark, I am confident that we will become stronger. Our city will not be defined by the spasms of violence it suffered this week, but by the resilience and optimism of those who are fortunate to work, live, and learn within its boundaries.
There is no excuse for the violence that afflicted our city yesterday, but we must be willing to confront the larger implications of this moment. It will take committed efforts of organizations across Baltimore, as well as strong local and state leadership, to continue to bend the trajectory of this great city, and to create more and better opportunities for our citizens. Contrary to the endless loop of negative images the world saw last night, we know that Baltimore is not beleaguered, but resolute, inventive, and vibrant. There are many accomplishments for which we can be

Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo
Useful
Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God. Romans 12:1 There are no coincidences. Everything happens for a reason. Everything has a purpose. Nothing is wasted. Everything you have been through, everything you have experienced is useful. Offer it up to God as a living sacrifice. While you are alive – all that you are is useful. Whatever state you are in is useful. Your past, your present, all of it is useful. All of it is acceptable sacrifice. We think that our negative experiences are unacceptable. We think our mistakes are unacceptable. We think what we have done wrong is unacceptable. Everything we have been through is acceptable: humiliation, abuse, addiction, abandonment, betrayal, violence, suffering, pain, or grief. Everything in our lives is useful.
Offer it up as a living sacrifice to God. Ask God to use it for his glory. While you are alive, offer it all up to God. He can use it. Whatever it is you are going through, offer it up to God. If he won’t take it from you, ask him to help you live through it. Your life is useful. Power Magazine n May 2015

THE CHURCH TEA
PEACE, BE STILL
“No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD. Isaiah 54:17 (NIV) The whole world is watching as the spirit of anarchy targets the city of Baltimore. And while effective change can never prevail in disorderly conduct, the sleeping youth of the city have awakened with a ruthless disregard for personal property – noted by the numerous vandalized buildings and cars. Yet, all of this is so symbolic of people who have grown weary over years of bearing first hand witness to police brutality and racial injustice. The Killing of Freddie Gray has spotlighted a flaw in our judicial system. Any mother with a black son has pleaded with him to be careful in the presence of law enforcement during “any” routine stop. I can identify with that terrifying moment when I was stopped while driving one afternoon. My son happened to be driving behind my car, when the officer approached and requested my information. The officer then asked who was the young man stopped a safe distances behind me. I responded, “It’s my son he will not interfere.” The officer patted his gun strapped to waist and said, “OH, I KNOW HE WON’T!”. In that moment I realized the threat was real and the conspiracy to compromise the lives of young men is legitimate. Structural changes are overdue and kudos to the ministerial leadership that has stepped up to the challenge of directing our youth. Historically, our churches have been the first line of organizing for worthy causes.

“Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them.” Assata Shakur. We can no longer allow police officers to be viewed as the oppressors by the citizens they serve … and therein lies the challenge. Mr. Freddie Gray’s family now joins the ranks with that tragic fellowship of people who have lost loved ones due to encounters with law enforcement. Needless to say, these brutal incidences have presided over black communities for decades. His death must be the catalyst for structural change in the way law enforcement treats our young adults. Until next time, “To God Be The Glory!” Be sure to listen to me & Rev. William Wingo on Fridays on WOLB 1010 livestream from 12:00 Noon to 1:00pm.
