Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo
Bookends For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. Take heed therefore, how ye hear. Luke 8:17-18 Be very careful of the people you have on either side of you. Ask God to reveal the heart of those who surround you now. Those who are on either side of you have access to your ears. Bookends are designed to prop up books on a shelf. Their purpose is to enclose the books so that they do not lean. Who are you leaning on? Bookends can go end to end and enclose the books in the middle, or if there is only one bookend, it can push the books up against the side of the bookcase to keep the books in place. Who is pushing against you…keeping you in place? Who is keeping you from moving? You have to know who is on either side of you. You have to know those who are surrounding you. Bookends are on either side of your head – where your ears are. They have access to your hearing. Who are you listening to? Be careful with whom you surround yourself. Be careful who you allow within your space, to touch your life, to speak to you, to counsel you, to advise you – to speak for you. You must have a discerning spirit to know who is who and what is what. Take heed what you hear. If you would like to share your thoughts with me, you may email me at juanitawingo@gmail.com or share your thoughts with others online at my blog: www.thinkonthesethingsbywingo.blogspot.com Power Magazine n November 2011 Visit us on

A Best kept Secret In Park Heights, Baltimore Carol Cantu became the new principal of Baltimore Junior Academy (BJA) this July (2011). She had known of the school for many years and had at one time worked for the Allegheny East Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, which is the mother organization for BJA. But with all of this background, she was still in the dark about the school’s Rich history and powerful influence. BJA will celebrate 100 years of continued operation in just four years. Established in 1915, it has always been African American owned and operated and boasts of many successful professionals among it’s many alumni, most prominent being the honorable Dr. Barry Black, who presently serves as the chaplain of the United States Senate. In the 1970’s many private schools sprang up to offer an alternative to school bussing to those who wanted to preserve schooling for whites in a white environment. In the late 1990’s private and charter school began to proliferate to challenge the schooling offered in failing public schools. BJA’s reason for existing has not been determined by what is going on in public schools. It has always been to offer character, Christ centered education for students whose parents understand the Biblical mandate that all of the children should be taught of the Lord. However the difference in BJA’s culture is distinct. It can boast of a well behaved student body, an emphasis on academic achievement for every student, a void of bullying, homosexuality, sexual promiscuity, and gang activity all of which are serious distractions in most public school of the nation. Today, with the country going through the present economic crisis, enrollment at BJA is low. The school weathered the depression of the late 1920’s and 30’s. So it will survive. But, if the secret gets out into the community that there is a school that can make a difference in a child’s life and future, BJA and soar even in these difficult times. The school is located at 3006 W. Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, MD 21215. Contact the school for enrollment information at 410 542-6758.
