Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo

Messing With the Gift And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:13 The enemy does not want you to enjoy your work. He sets obstacles and stumbling blocks everywhere. He will do anything to keep you in a state of negativity and complaint. He wants to make sure you always find something wrong with your job. If you enjoy your co-workers, you don’t like what you do. If you enjoy what you do, you don’t like your boss. If you like your boss, you don’t like your hours. If you like your hours, you don’t like where your work. There will always be something that you don’t like. There will be hindrances detracting from the enjoyment of doing the work that God has provided. Consequently, we can not enjoy what we have worked for. The distraction of dissatisfaction outweighs the enjoyment of the gift. And your enjoyment is the gift of God. Our reward for working Monday through Friday, 9 to 5 or 7 to 11 or 3 to 11 or Saturdays or Sundays does not come from the paycheck we receive or from accolades, certificates of achievement or honors. Our reward for putting in a full day’s work is the gift of enjoyment. We are supposed to enjoy the good of our labor. But the enemy wearies the saints. We get tired, worn down, discouraged and discounted. Amounting debt, rising prices, a failing economy pins us to our jobs in fear, worry and anxiety. We can’t enjoy what we do because we live in fear of losing it. But once we realize the plan of God, we can rest in Him and do our best and enjoy every moment of our day – including and especially the working hours. What is God’s plan? Verse 11 lets us know that “He has made every thing beautiful in his time…” If you are working, it is God’s time for you to work. Find the beauty in it and enjoy it. It is the gift of God. Don’t let the enemy mess with your gift! Power Magazine September 2009 n n n

Jewish Museum of Maryland Preserves History of East Baltimore Voices of Lombard Street: A Century of Change in East Baltimore continues to draw record crowds to the Jewish Museum of Maryland. The original exhibition, curated by museum Associate Director Anita Kassof, and Research Historian Deb Weiner chronicles the Museum’s East Baltimore neighborhood and the relationships between Jews, African Americans, Italians and other ethnic minorities who have lived there together from 1900 to today. Through evocative first person narratives, authentic artifacts, photo murals, and audio dialogues, the exhibition will take you on a glorious trip down memory lane at the same time as it instills hope about the future glory of this beloved enclave. If you haven’t seen it, come on down. If you have, see it again, and bring along someone you love! In addition to Voices of Lombard Street, the Museum is currently exhibiting Drawing on Tradition: The Book of Esther, an show based upon the graphic novel about the Book of Esther by artist JT Waldman. Visitors to the Museum can also tour our historic synagogues, Lloyd Street Synagogue, built in 1845, and B’nai Israel, built in 1876. The Museum offers tours for school groups, church and synagogue groups, seniors, and others by appointment. Looking for a beautiful gift, but don’t want to head to the mall? The Museum’s gift shop carries beautiful ritual objects, jewelry, books, and cds. The Museum is available for rent for special events, meetings or receptions. The Jewish Museum of Maryland is located in East Baltimore at 15 Lloyd Street. Hours of operation are Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from noon – 4:00 p.m. There is free parking lot across the street from the entrance. For more information, please call (410) 732-6400, or visit us on the web at www.jewishmuseummd.org. 6

Bethel AME stages a joyous reopening Church was damaged by lightning July 1 By Joe Burris • joseph.burris@baltsun.com August 31, 2009

They made a joyful noise along West Baltimore’s sleepy streets Sunday morning during a processional filled with hymns of praise, boisterous cheers and powerful hand claps. It was the thunder that followed the lightning: Less than two months after historic Bethel AME Church was forced to close its doors because of damage from an electrical storm, its members marched through the streets surrounding the church Sunday to celebrate its reopening. The Druid Hill Avenue church held its first Sunday worship service since the fire and drew dozens of faithful who started marching in celebration well before the start of the morning service.

The Rev. Frank M. Reid III, Bethel’s senior pastor, said he hopes the reopening serves as an inspiration to the city that one of its oldest churches has quickly rebounded.

“At the same time that people are being hit by economic lightning and fire, in less than two months our church, which suffered tremendous damage, is back in,” said Reid, the longest-serving pastor (20 years) of a church that dates back to the late 1700s.

Reid marched in the middle of the processional, surrounded by parishioners who embraced and sang songs such as “This Is the Day That the Lord Has Made.”
“It’s a reminder to people,” Reid said, “that no matter how bad a hit you take, when we turn to each other, instead of turning on each other, a bad situation can become a good one.” To read full article go to:
