To Attract Investment, President Reviews Infrastructure in Kaltara setkab.go.id
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has reviewed the infrastructure in the province of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) to make sure it’s good enough to attract investment. According to the president, infrastructure is very important to attract investment. Some big investments will come to the new province. “The state-owned enterprise (SOE) Inalum will be moved here with a capacity three times bigger than the capacity in Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra,” said Jokowi at the Agatish Field, Tanjung Selor, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan, on Friday (10/6). Jokowi said the government will also encourage investment in the hydro power plant, given the huge potential resources for that in North Kalimantan. “I already asked the governor, vice governor, and Bulungan regent and they said they have prepared 11 thousand hectares of land. That’s what they said when I asked about their preparation,” he said, quoting the official statement from the Palace. Meanwhile, related to the construction of the bridge connecting Tarakan and Tanjung Selor, the president said he has not decided yet about the timelines. According to him, the government needs to calculate it first. “Everything must be calculated, calculated, and see the benefits. Currently it’s in the process in the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR). It is being calculated in the PUPR Ministry,” said the President. (RPBK/TPP)
Quote Of The Month
If it can be simplified, why complicated if it can be accelerated, why should be slowed President Joko Widodo
“I recall the discussion with PUPR Minister Mr. Basuki, in 5 years how many kilometers we will get, how come in the past tens of years we only built 780 (km), while China built 4,000 to 5,000 kilometers per year,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi: By 2019, Toll Roads in RI to Get Additional 1,800 km The government continues to speed up the development of toll roads in various regions. According to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), from the initial target of the construction of 1,200 km toll roads in 5 years, the realization will reach 1,800 km in 2019 or longer than the specified target. “I counted already, our target is 1,200 km in 5 years … then I whisperingly asked again to the minister (PUPR Minister), how many kilometers you estimate the additional toll roads in 2019? We count-
ed, added up, added up and we got 1,800 km. We can do it if we speed up,” said Jokowi on Monday (9/25). He said that while delivering a speech during the opening ceremony of Bawen-Salatiga toll road at the Salatiga tollgate. Jokowi added that the realization of toll road development will not just increase the length of the roads, but moreover it will show to the world that Indonesia is a growing country with adequate infrastructure availability.
The infrastructure will also help Indonesia to catch up with the development that has previously been constrained by the lack of infrastructure to connect the regions. “I recall the discussion with PUPR Minister Mr. Basuki, in 5 years how many kilometers we will get, how come in the past tens of years we only built 780 (km), while China built 4,000 to 5,000 kilometers per year,” said Jokowi. The rapid construction of toll roads currently, Jokowi added, can be done because his team
has found breakthroughs to solve the problems hampering the growth of infrastructure. One of the breakthroughs is the acceleration of the land acquisition process, the Law No. 2 of 2012 on the provision of land for infrastructure. “The problem is in the land acquisition. Why only 780 (kilometers)? I see (why projects) stopped, stopped, stopped, due to problems on land acquisition. The key problem has been found,” he said. Meanwhile PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said after
the 17.5 km Bawen-Salatiga toll road was inaugurated, the next will be the Salatiga-Kartosuro. The target is by the end of 2018 the Jakarta-Probolinggo will be directly connected by the toll roads. “The Solo-Ngawi, NgawiKertosono, Kertosono-Mojokerto, Mojokerto-Surabaya will be finished in 2018. So, by 2018 the Merak-Jakarta-Semarang-Solo-SurabayaProbolinggo will be completed, then Probolinggo-Banyuwangi will be done in 2019,” said Basuki. (DTK/TPP)
BKPM Boss: Investment in Indonesian Tourism Profitable Head of Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong invites foreign and domestic investors to invest in the tourism sector. The Indonesia’s tourism sector provides very promising returns of investment. Thomas exemplifies the investments made by investors in the tourism, especially in Bali ten years ago and how they enjoy the benefits now. “The investors who invested in Bali ten years ago in hotels, resorts and villas, now surely they enjoy the benefits of tourism development in Indonesia. So now it is the time to invest in ‘New Bali’,” said Thomas on Monday (10/9). The BKPM invites the investors to learn the tourist destination profiles in the Regional Investment Forum (RIF) to be held in Padang, West Sumatera, on October 15-17, 2017. The growth of the tourism

in the first half of 2017 is 35 percent compared to the same period the previous year. This certainly shows a big opportunity to grow further. The BKPM data show during 2010 - 2016 the investment in tourism grew an average of 20 percent per year and absorbed 221,000 workers. In the first semester of 2017, the investment realization in tourism reached US$929.14
million or Rp12.4 trillion. This value grew 37 percent compared to the figure in the first half of 2016. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya also supports the RIF 2017 in Padang to boost the number of tourists visiting Indonesia. “The investors attending the event can learn the priority destinations offered before deciding where to invest. Hopefully that will increase
the number of tourists, foreign and domestic,” Arief added. Arief further said to provide enough 3A (Attractions, Amenities and Accessibility) to meet the needs of tourists visiting Indonesia, the government and the business community should work together. Meanwhile West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said that Padang has actually been known as an international hub port since the 16th century. “West Sumatra is very open to business and investment. The beauty of Mount Padang, Mandeh Beach, and the delicacy of typical Padang food are ready to welcome foreign and domestic investors,” he said. The investment promotion forum of RIF is organized by the BKPM, supported by the Tourism Ministry, Bank Indonesia and the Provincial Government of West Sumatra. Six
out of 10 tourist destinations of “New Bali” will be offered in the forum. The ten destinations are Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Tanjung Kelayang (Bangka Belitung), Tanjung Lesung (Banten), Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands) and Kota Tua (DKI Jakarta), Borobudur (Central Java), and BromoTengger-Semeru (East Java) and the 2 integrated tourism spots in West Sumatra named Mandeh and Gunung Padang will be the main destinations in the offer. To date, 114 foreign investors from Australia, Japan, the United States, Singapore, China and the UK have confirmed to attend the event. Approximately 66 meetings have been scheduled between the investors, local governments and local entrepreneurs to explore the investment opportunities in the tourism sector. (KEMENPAR/TPP)

Jokowi Calls on Craft Producers to Apply Sharing and Digital Economy
President Jokowi Appreciates Modern Farmer Cooperatives President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged the modern concept of farmer cooperative PT BUMR (Badan Usaha Milik Rakyat/People’s business entity) Pangan Terhubung in Sukabumi to be used as a model for other cooperatives. This was said by the president while visiting PT BUMR Pangan Terhubung in Sukabumi, on Friday (9/1). “I have heard about PT BUMR Pangan in Sukabumi since a long ago. This is what I often said how farmer cooperatives should be, yes it is,” the president told journalists after taking a look at the rice mill belonging to the cooperative. He appreciated the cooperative for its thorough concept starting from processing to sales. This includes modern
and attractive packaging that can go directly to the retail industry. “It is done in a modern way with a large scale. The packaging is also very modern, very interesting. They can go directly to the retailers. The farmers are grouped into an industrial scale,” said the president. The planting system is also done modernly by involving modern technology by paying attention to the soil condition, while the marketing used the online system. “I think our farmers should be like that. So, I guess I’ll copy it. Maybe next week, Mr. Luwarso (Chairman of PT BUMR Pangan Terhubung) will be invited to the Palace to talk. I want this to be copied as an example for other places. Let Mr.
Luwarso to guide it,” said the president. Currently, about 1,000 hectares of agricultural land are already incorporated in the cooperative. With a such land size, it took about Rp48 billion to establish the cooperative. The president said he would make a concept like this, including to find the solution of the funding system. “So, for 5,000 (hectares), it would need Rp254 billion. It must be like that. This is what I will figure out. How to borrow from the bank, how to pay the installments and how to involve all the farmers,” he added. The president further said he would invite the Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Trade and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing to the Presiden-

After for trials since September 15, the Semarang-Solo Toll Road Section III: Bawen-Salatiga, Central Java, was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Monday (9/25) afternoon. The Bawen-Salatiga toll road is part of the Semarang-Solo toll road with a length of 17.6 km. In his speech, President Jokowi said that the BawenSalatiga toll road is done by a consortium of state-owned enterprise of Jasa Marga, private company Astra Infra, Central Java Province, and Central Java Infrastructure Facility. “The consortium is working together, a combination of local governments, central government, a state-owned enterprise, a private company, all are joining together,” he said. The president added that
he believed if we work together like has been done on Bawen-Salatiga, the construction of toll roads will be fast, and so the financing. “Do not lag behind other countries. If the neighbor countries can do it, we can do it more. We are a big country,” said the president. According to President Jokowi, the logistics costs are still 2 - 2.5 times higher than Singapore and Malaysia due to the lack of highways. He reminded in a price, there are transportation and logistics costs, meaning if the costs are higher the goods purchased by the people also become more expensive. To that end, he asked the Village Heads, District Heads, Regents, and Mayors who attended the event to convey the message
tial Palace to develop the concept of modern cooperative. PT BUMR Pangan Terhubung is a cooperative that processes rice from downstream to upstream by cooperating with farmers located nearby. The cooperative also provides capital loans for the planting activities. The harvesting and packaging are processed using modern technology, including sales that are distributed directly to the retailers as well as online. The proceeds will be shared with the farmers of the cooperative members. During his visit, the president was accompanied by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki and West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan. (BUMR/TPP)
President Jokowi Praises Consolidation of Central, Regional Governments and Private Sector while Inaugurating Bawen-Salatiga Toll Road
to the public, on what the benefits of toll roads for them. Regarding the financing problem in building toll roads, President Jokowi said he has now a lot of schemes. It no longer depends on the bank loans. It can be in partnership, sales of bonds, or limited concession scheme. “Many schemes will do,” he said. The president also reminded the Minister of SOEs to not like keeping assets. “If the toll roads are finished, sell them immediately. Not selling them and then gone, but sell them for 20 years for example. The proceeds can be used to build another. Sell again, build again. Like that. Other countries are also like that.” So, there is no need to own but still ours while utilizing it, because the roads are clearly
there, still belonging to the government of the Republic of Indonesia. “Do not think selling the physic of the toll road. We are selling its concession with a specified time limit, for 10 years or 20 years,” said President Jokowi, adding that this will speed the building of infrastructure elsewhere. “This is the work that we continue to do, so that the complete infrastructure can soon be realized,” he added. Other dignitaries attending the inauguration were First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, SOEs Minister Rini Soemarno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, Salatiga Mayor, Regents and Village Heads. President Joko Widodo has urged the handicrafts producers to continue innovating in their business operation. One way, according to the president, is by modernization such as implementing sharing economy and digitalization. “I need to remind on the need for modernization in the craft industry, modernization in the production process from upstream to downstream, from getting the raw materials, processing them, product manufacturing, packaging, to marketing,” said President Joko Widodo while giving a speech at the National Craft Council exhibition, Jakarta Convention Center, on Wednesday (9/27). The sharing economy, for example, can be done by establishing co working space for the craft producers. As it is known, co working space is a space used in share by various business players.
President Joko Widodo said, it has been applied by many startup owners in big cities. According to him, the craft producers in regions and in the cities can apply the same way to strengthen the production and reduce the operational costs. “Please check it out whether it can be applied in our handicraft SMEs. In my opinion it can. That will lower their production cost because they share some of the cost,” said President Joko Widodo. Meanwhile, digitalization can be applied in the marketing. Compared to selling the handicrafts in stalls like in general, President Joko Widodo urged the craft producers to apply e-commerce or use the social media to sell. “Let us try to hire a good photographer collectively to make the best pictures of the products. With an Instagram suitable style, for example, given the social media is full of images,” said Jokowi. (TMP/TPP)

Transportation Ministry Encourages SOEs and Private Firms to Manage Ports and Airports with KSP/KSO Scheme To streamline the State Budget (APBN), the Transportation Ministry has encouraged the state-owned and private companies to manage the sea ports and airports in Indonesia under the scheme of Utilization Cooperation (KSP) or Operation Cooperation (KSO). Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that after attending a Video Conference on the utilization cooperation of ports and airports at the Ministry’s Gedung Karya, on Tuesday (9/5). According to the minister, the both schemes would generate better, bigger and significant outcomes. “The president always wants to make our State Budget effective. With the support of private sector, our jobs will provide a better, bigger and more significant impact,” he said. Budi added that such a cooperation would reduce the spending in the regions. “We know the government needs a big fund to build the outermost and marginal regions. With this (cooperation), the state budget, expenditure of goods, capital expenditure, as well as human resources allocated for the ports and air-
ports can be transferred to the smaller marginal ones,” he added. For example, the Tanjung Karang Airport. Every year the ministry spends a quite big chunk of budget for maintenance, procurement of goods, and others, but the airport generates smaller income. If it can be cooperated with the private sector, the APBN fund can be allocated to others. The minister described how much the government would save from such a cooperation. “The largest budget is spent for Tanjung Karang and Sentani airports at Rp50 billion. Under the cooperation, we will earn Rp10 to Rp20 billion, so we will save Rp70 billion.” According to Budi, if the saving is between Rp10 billion and Rp70 billion, the total amount to be saved will be about Rp800 billion. “We can build 40 sea ports and 20 airports in other places, which can be utilized by the communities in the marginal areas.” The minister said he will visit Bima and Waingapu on Sunday (9/10) to witness the signing of MoU between Port Authority (KSOP) of Bima and KSOP of Waingapu with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Persero). “Under the MoU, the operational functions are delegated to Pe-
lindo 3, while the security functions are still carried out by the Transportation Ministry,” he added “We expect the handover will be done in December. We will standardize the processes with the assurance in the legal certainty to reallocate the budget elsewhere and to protect the state and private companies’ investments for 30 years. We can imagine how useful the 30 years protection to the assets,” he said. Based on the data as of September 5, 2017, there are 20 ports and 10 airports that have been proposed to be managed by state and private companies. The 20 ports include Probolinggo, Sintete, Bima, Waingapu, Tanjung Wangi, Badas, Kalabahi, Tenau Kupang, Ende, Lembar, Manokwari, Bitung, Ternate, Pantoloan, Parepare, Kendari, Biak, Fakfak, Sorong and Merauke. While the 10 airports include Komodo Airport Labuan Bajo, Radin Inten II Airport Lampung, Sentani Airport Jayapura. The conference was attended by Secretary General of Transportation Ministry Sugihardjo, Director General of Air Transportation Agus Santoso and Acting Director General of Sea Transportation Bay M. Hasani. (DEPHUB/TPP)

According to Foreign Affairs Minister Retno, Indonesia will always be at the forefront in encouraging dialogue to prevent conflicts and bridge the differences in the future. She admitted that her diplomacy is somehow affected by her motherly instincts as a woman. The UN Women and GPF considered Retno, the first Indonesian female foreign affairs minister, as a role model and a source of inspiration for millions of women, both in Indonesia and the world. “This award will be a driving force for me to work harder. Working harder for the people and the nation of Indonesia, for peace and global prosperity, and for women around the world,” Retno said. (KEMLU/TPP)

Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi said that at the meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers with UN SecretaryGeneral and President of the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York, United States, on Saturday (9/23). During the meeting, Minister Retno also appreciated the ASEAN-UN cooperation which continues to enhance from year to year. According to her, the ASEAN and United Nations need to fully implement what has been agreed and set forth in the ASEAN-UN Comprehensive Action Plan (Renaksi) 2016-2020. The Renaksi was designed very comprehensively, including the development of cooperation in the three pillars of ASEAN, namely politics, economy, and socio-cul-
ture. The minister also called for the strengthening of the ecosystem of peace, security, and prosperity in ASEAN. Related to this matter, there are two proposals for the ASEAN-UN cooperation. The first is the use of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) to strengthen the efforts to maintain peace and reconciliation. The second is strengthening ASEAN sectoral cooperation with UN agencies, such as the role of ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Center) with the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance. With such a cooperation, it is expected to assist the ASEAN in responding better to various requests for humanitarian assistance, both from ASEAN member countries and from outside the region. As
increase of 4.44% from 2015. In contrast, Guangxi’s export value to Indonesia amounted to US$285.95. Thus, in 2016, Indonesia experienced a trade surplus with Guangxi at US$213.8 million. In addition to Indonesia, CaEXPO was also participated in by nine other ASEAN member countries, namely Brunei, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. In 1991-2016, China-ASEAN bilateral trade grew 56-folds. In the past eight years, China is ASEAN’s biggest trading partner. such, ASEAN will always be part of the solution of global problems. Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres said that ASEAN has been a net peace contributor by sending around 4,000 UN peacekeepers. Gutteres also stressed on the need for strengthening the ASEAN-UN cooperation in fostering a culture of prevention, including increasing the contributions to the UN peacekeeping forces, cooperation on preventing extremist violence, tackling migration issues, and addressing issues of international concern. Prior to this meeting, another meeting was held between senior ASEAN-UN officials discussing the progress of cooperation and further efforts that could be made in the implementation of ASEAN-UN Comprehensive Action Plan 2016-2020. Jakpro: Physical Development of LRT Jakarta to Reach 90% by Year-end PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) has been accelerating the construction of Jakarta light rail transit (LRT). The Jakarta LRT covers seven corridors, namely Kebayoran Lama-Kelapa Gading, Tanah Abang-Pulomas, Joglo-Tanah Abang, Puri Kembangan-Tanah Abang, Pesing-Kelapa Gading, Pesing-Soekarno Hatta Airport, and Cempaka Putih-Ancol. “By the end of this year, the physical development will have reached 90 percent,” said Jakpro Operational Director Wahyu A. This infrastructure project will be fully operational in 2019. However, during the implementation of ASEAN Games 2018, some corridors of the LRT will be operated. “The deadline is the date of ASEAN Games, to be partly operational. Normally the commissioning takes 3-6 months. We have been working extra, 1 year for planning, 2 years for development, and 3 years for building network. Some LRT experts said its impossible job, but we still try to do it for the sake of the people,” he said. Regarding the LRT station in Dukuh Atas, planned to be the integrated transportation center, Wahyu said that he has negotiated with several related parties such as PT Adhi Karya Tbk as the Jabodebek LRT contractor and the airport train. “There will be 4 railways, 2 from us, the other 2 from Adhi Karya, and each has its own track and operator,” he said. The Jabodebek LRT routes include Cawang-Cibubur, Cawang-Kuningan-Dukuh Atas, Cawang-Bekasi Timur, Dukuh Atas-Senayan, Cibubur-Bogor and Palmerah-Bogor. Two LRTs intersect at Dukuh Atas, where the LRT Jakarta route passes through Manggarai and Dukuh Atas to Tanah Abang Wahyu also emphasized that the elimination of sectoral ego is a must to integrate the transportation modes, as stated also by elected Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta Sandiaga Uno in the discussion forum. In addition to working on the LRT project, Jakpro is also responsible for two other development projects, namely Jakarta International Equestrian Park Pulo Mas and Jakarta International Velodrome. PUPR Minister Targets Trans Java Toll Road to be Completed in 2018 jpp.go.id
PUPR (Public Works and Public Housing) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has said that the development of Trans Java toll road has almost completed, except for the Salatiga-Solo section. “Regarding the Trans Java toll road, it is obviously under construction. In fact, it is almost finished, except for the Salatiga-Solo section,” he said after delivering a public lecture at the Sultan Agung Islam-
ic University (Unissula), Semarang, on Thursday (9/14). Minister Basuki is optimistic that the 661-kilometer Trans Java toll road will be fully connected by 2018, so the access of Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya will be running smoothly. “The (section) of Salatiga-Solo is still in the process. Some others are in the finishing touches. I’m confident that the Trans Java will be fully functional in 2018, God willing,” he
continue to stage 2 and 3. “The stage 1 consists of phase 1 and 2. After their completion, we will do the stage 2 and 3,” Bay said in a press conference at the Transportation Ministry, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/5). The construction of Patimban Port is financed by Japan’s loan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at US$1.03 billion and the domestic funding of US$90 million. The US$1.03 billion loan from JICA will be disbursed gradually until 2023. “The financing comes from the Japanese loan through JICA totaling US$1.03 billion or Rp13.7 trillion, while the domestic funding is US$90 mil-
added. Meanwhile the Trans Sumatra toll road, according to the PUPR minister, has been started on three points namely the south from Bakauheni to Palembang, targeted for completion in 2018-2019. The next is the middle starting from Pekanbaru which has begun the process and the north is a 40km Medan-Kualanamu section which will be inaugurated soon. “However, when the president
asked whether it could be completed in 2019, I did not dare to answer yes because Aceh has not started yet. If Aceh would has begun in 2018, I will say yes,” said Minister Basuki. He said that the challenge in infrastructure development, including the toll roads, is the vastness of Indonesia’s territory. Nevertheless, it must be realized to enhance the competitiveness through the connectivity. “To improve the competitiveness, the key is connectivity. Hence, the challenge must be faced, don’t take it as a problem,” he said. Moreover, Minister Basuki added, the society’s expectation of infrastructure development is now higher, so the PUPR Ministry responds it with accelerating the projects. “For example, recently people waited on the construction of emergency road in Semarang. We closed at 12 pm, but they (the community) waited until six o’clock in the morning to pass through,” he said. That means, according to Minister Basuki, the PUPR Ministry will continue to encourage the acceleration of the infrastructure projects including the Trans Java and Trans Sumatra toll roads. (JPP/TPP)

Launching regopantes.com Application, Central Java Governor Asks Farmers to Sell Online Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has launched smartphone application called regopantes. com for the farmers. This application is expected to cut the distribution channels in selling various agricultural commodities from the Central Java farmers to the consumers. The regopantes.com application was launched at the commemoration of National Farmers Day 2017 in Central Java Province, taking place in the yard of Central Java Governor Office, Semarang City, on Saturday (9/23). Also attended the event was Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman. The regopantes.com application is expected to be an online trading network for agricultural products to be sold from the farmers directly to the consumers. Ganjar asked the farmers to be technology literate and start us-
“West Java is the province with the largest number of pesantren in Indonesia, if it is optimized then West Java has the potential to become the center of Islamic economic empowerment,” said Maya. Based on the findings of Bank Indonesia, there are 54 pesantren with more than 500 students. It shows West Java has a potential as an alternative economic institution in community empowerment. “This is very supportive. Wes Java also has a big population of Muslims. That is why Bank Indonesia conducts the Sharia Economic Festival in West Java,” said Maya. (JPP/TPP)
ing the regopantes.com application to market their products. Through the application of regopantes.com, Central Java Provincial Government also wants to improve the welfare of the farmers by cutting down the distribution chain currently too long, resulting in low prices at the farmers level but too high in the consumers. “With this application, the farmers can post their crops and sell them online, while the consumers can buy directly through the same website,” explained Ganjar. The appropriate prices for both farmers and consumers will be balanced by regopantes. com system by comparing the prices from the farmers to the distributors with the prices consumers pay in the market. “The appropriate prices deserved by the farmers and the consumers will be offered by the system as a basis for transactions between them,” he said. The farmers’ prices will be higher than the distributors’
prices, but the consequence is the farmers have to guarantee the quality of their produces. Thus, the regopantes.com application is a tool or an alternative way for the farmers to get more reasonable prices and ultimately to make them more prosperous. The launch of the regopantes. com application was preceded by the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Central Java Provincial Secretary and the Head of PT BRI Regional Yogyakarta Special Region Office, the Head of PT BRI Semarang Regional Office, and the Director of 8villages Indonesia, on the “Improving Farmers’ Welfare through the Integration of Farmer Card System with the Digital-Based Farmer Application”. AP II Accelerates Kertajati Airport Operation, Tourism Minister: to Support Tourism Growth Rapid and tactical steps have been taken by PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) with the hope that the air access from and to the tourist destinations in West Java, especially Majalengka, Kuningan, Cirebon, Indramayu, and Subang to be open soon.
During this time, the weakness in the western and southern West Java is the access. There are no direct flights to transport the tourists. They must pass through Jakarta and Bandung while Bandung has limited capacity. The MoU was signed by President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin and representative of PT BIJB shareholders West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan and President Director of PT Jasa Sarana Mulyadi. The MoU was also signed by PT BIJB Director Virda Dimas Ekaputra and President Director of PT Danareksa Investment Prihatmo Hari Mulyanto.
AP II and Danareksa will buy the treasury stock of PT BIJB. Thus, once the agreement dealt, the shareholders of PT BIJB become the West Java Provincial Government, PT Jasa Sarana, AP II, and Danareksa. “The due diligence process relating to the purchase of the shares will be done no later than October 2017 so that the purchase of the treasury stock can be done no later than November 30, 2017,” said President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin. “How much the percentage of AP II’s shares in PT BIJB will be formulated based on the due diligence result. Obviously, the pur-
chase PT BIJB shares by AP II will not reduce the percentage of shares owned by the West Java Provincial Government and PT Jasa Sarana,” he added. Holding some of BIJB’s shares is considered strategic to play a role in supporting the growth of tourism and economy in West Java. The sale of the PT BIJB’s treasury stock aims to finance the airport development and operation. On the same occasion, AP II and West Java Provincial Government and PT BIJB also signed an MoU on the joint operation of the BIBJ (Kertajati) Airport. Under the MoU, all parties do their parts before BIJB oper-
ation entirely handled by AP II. “AP II will operate the ground side, including the Airport and Airport Related Services. Basically, AP II’s job is to increase the national and local economic growth,” said Muhammad Awaluddin. Previously, AP II also signed an MoU with Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas, wit-
nessed by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya at Blimbingsari Airport, in coincidence with the inauguration of Garuda Indonesia’s new flight route of Jakarta-Banyuwangi. “Banyuwangi is also strategic to become a complete tourist destination with Attractions, Accesses and Amenities! Remember the 3A formula, without it,
the development of tourist destinations will be very difficult,” said Arief Yahya. AP II will manage Blimbingsari Airport to bring in more flights in the regency dubbed as The Sunrise of Java. “The goal is to support the growth of tourism as the driving force of Banyuwangi economy,” said the minister. 98 Percent of Bali Tourism Sites Safe
The central government continues to accelerate the development of infrastructure, especially in the areas of 10 priority tourist destinations. One of them is the Special Economic Zone (KEK) Tanjung Lesung located in Pandeglang, South Banten. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said he would carry out the plans to develop a marina at Tanjung Lesung, reactivate the Rangkasbitung-Labuan railway, build the Serang-Panimbang toll road and an airport in Panimbang. “Accessibility is very important. If you want to be a worldclass destination, the time needed to reach it cannot be more than 2 hours,” he said after inaugurating the Festival Pesona
Tanjung Lesung 2017, on Tuesday (9/5), in the Tourism Ministry’s Sapta Pesona Building. Arief further said currently the time needed to get to Tanjung Lesung from Jakarta is still more than 5 hours. Regarding the land acquisition for the Serang-Panimbang toll road, 40 percent of the land plots have been paid off and the groundbreaking will be done on September 15, 2017. The target of completion is in 2019. For the airport, it is still in the process of land inventory. According to the Banten Provincial Government, some plots of land are controlled by speculators so that the land acquisition becomes obstructed.
The land needed for the construction of the airport is 600 hectares, including the land area owned by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. With a better access, the tourism minister said, it is not only Tanjung Lesung that will get the benefits, but other tourist destinations in Banten will also be more easily marketed overseas. One of them is Sawarna Beach which has been known as a surfing venue. Meanwhile, Banten Governor H. The Mount Agung in Bali is still showing bad signs. Even so, 98 percent of tourist destinations in Bali are considered safe. Bali Tourism Board (BTB) has held a discussion with dozens of media and tour operators, related to the forecast of the decline in the number of tourists visiting Bali due to the high activity of Mount Agung. The discussion was held at the BTB Building, Jl. Raya Puputan, Renon, Denpasar, Bali, on Tuesday (10/10). BTB’s Head of Division III Media, Dewa Gede Ngurah Byomantara, said the accuracy of information would be one solution to minimize the impact of the Mount Agung’s activity in declining the number of foreign tourist arrivals. “There are still many tourist destinations far away from Mount Agung safe to visit. We need to socialize that. Please, do not give an impression that if the eruption happened, all of Bali will be in disaster,” said Byomantara.
He added that not all the Karangasem Regency area will be affected by Mount Agung if it erupted. The Candidasa and Amed areas as well as many more are in the safe zone. “No less than 98 percent tourist destinations are safe, only 2 percent will be affected like Besakih and Tulamben. The Candidasa is still safe, while Kuta, Nusa Dua, and Sanur especially are far away from Mount Agung,” said Byomantara. Regarding the allegation of tourists canceled their visits to Bali because of Mount Agung, Byomantara assured there was no valid data. Some cancellation might be caused by factors other than Mount Agung. “Cancellation happened but we cannot provide an accurate data. It is predicted 15-20 percent per room per night. If the average visit is for 3 days, then divided by 3 and the result is only 5-7 percent of the cancellation. However, the data from the airlines is very small, only 4 percent cancellation for in and out flights,” said Byomantara. (DTK/TPP)

Since the autumn of this year, Air China passengers can fly nonstop to Jakarta, where they can break away from the hustling Beijing life. They can enjoy the unique history and culture of Indonesia as well as the dynamics of Southeast Asia. Visitors will feel the peace of mind while breathing in the sea air with the scent of young coconut, while enjoying the incredible scenery around them. Over the past few years, Air China has launched new routes between Beijing and Mumbai, Colombo, Islamabad, Karachi and other destinations on the Silk Road. Last year, Air China also released a new route between Hangzhou and Surat
Thani, as well as Chongqing and Nha Trang. The new nonstop route of Beijing-Jakarta is the latest development of Air China’s strategy to make Beijing a central airport with global reach, as well as increasing network coverage in Asia Pacific. In a bid to grow the digital economy, the initiative of “Next Indonesian Unicorn (NexICorn)” has been launched. This initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Venture Capitalists for Startups Indonesia (Amvesindo) and Global Consulting Firm Ernst & Young. NexIcorn aims to produce more unicorn digital startups in Indonesia. NexICorn’s first program was held at Ayana MidPlaza Jakarta on Tuesday (9/12) in the form of Indonesia-Japan Digital NextICorn Meet Up. There were three agenda. The first was sharing session with the topic related to the Digital Economic Movement by Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara and Deputy for Coordination of Creative Economy, Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness of Cooperatives and SMEs at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Rudy Salahuddin. The second was presenting two Indonesian unicorns of Gojek and Tokopedia to share their
experiences in Indonesian market. The last was about NexIcorn as a medium to meet up the startups of Indonesia with the Japanese investors. The Minister of Communication and Informatics in his speech said the key to investing in Indonesia is the readiness of infrastructure as the main requirement for achieving the economic progress of 2030. “There are many reasons for investing in Indonesia. In addition to continuing to build infrastructure, the government also keeps improving the business environment including the ease on permits. The legal reforms and Indonesia’s first rank for public confidence in the government are also the factors,” Rudiantara said. He added Indonesia is the right place for investors to invest, considering the Indonesia’s stable economic growth in the past 10 years; Indonesia will be the top 5 countries with the largest economy by 2030; the demographic bonus of 180 million productive age population by 2030; and the rapid changes to the
business environment. The government has also conducted policy reforms in the ICT sector and the digital economy, among others through the Local Domestic Content (TKDN) policy of at least 40% for 4G smartphones marketed in Indonesia; simplifying the certification process for mobile phones, computers and tablets; and the revision of Government Regulation No. 82 of 2012 on Electronic Management and Transaction System. The digital economic policy reform is done by the issuance of Negative List of Investment (DNI) stipulated in the Presidential Regulation No. 44 of 2016; Circular Letter of the Minister of Communication and Informatics Number 5 Year 2016 on Safe Harbor Policy; and Presidential Regulation Number 74 Year 2017 on E-commerce Roadmap. Meantime Deputy Rudy Salahuddin said the programs included in E-commerce Roadmap for 2017-2019 are logistics, cyber security, ICT infrastructure, education and human resources, funding, and consumer protection.
NexICorn IndonesiaJapan Opens Investment Door for Indonesian Startups
The Target of One Unicorn Startup Each Year Minister Rudiantara said he hoped the meeting between the e-commerce community of Indonesia and Japanese investors will encourage the birth of new startup unicorns in Indonesia. Unicorns Gojek and Tokopedia were asked to represent the 45 startup companies attending the NexIcorn to share their experiences in the Indonesian market. Rudiantara targets to see one new unicorn per year. He also said that this event is the government’s first step in inviting foreign investors. “This is the first step to build a digital ecosystem. We will also come to the countries that are considered to have potentials to invest in Indonesia. We cannot be passive but pro-active to sell Indonesia in a positive way,” said Chief RA, Rudiantara’s nickname. The 45 startups attending the NexIcorn held one on one meetings with potential investors from Japan. They used the opportunity to present their ideas to the investors. (JPP/TPP)

This new warehouse serves as a logistics hub of CKB Logistics in Surabaya, and has been operating since May 29, 2017 and is built on an area of 300,000 m2 with a capacity five times larger than its previous location on Jalan Raya Margomulyo No. 41, Surabaya, East Java. The warehouse is equipped with facilities of a 6,000 m2 closed warehouse, a 20,000 m2 open warehouse, and a 500 m2 office spaces. The capacity expansion is the company’s priority mission. Our focus is to serve the customers better,” Iman said in a press release on Thursday (9/7).
The new logistics hub is supported by integrated logistics service, information and communication technology system, as well as an effective surveillance system. The hub also provides an 8,500 m2 facility of closed and open warehouses. The facility is expected to complement the added value of logistics services to the customers to improve the cost efficiency and distribution acceleration. That will strengthen the CKB Logistics’s position as an integrated logistics company in Indonesia especially in Surabaya. The CKB Logistics also has several other warehouses located in Jakarta, Karawang, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, and Sorong. Currently, the government is focusing on the development of infrastructure and industrial estates in Eastern Indonesia. By investing in Surabaya, the CKB Logistics wants to help make the city as a hub for the trade and logistics distribution in East Indonesia. The central government has

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the Kertajati Airport will be completed gradually with a bonded logistics center and become an aerocity. Luhut said he hoped Kertajati can be like Alibaba because it will make the cost of logistics more efficient. “Alibaba creates a concept that lowers the cost, so we can make it that way,” said Luhut. Alibaba Group is a giant ecommerce company based in China, owned by businessman Jack Ma. He also said that the government has decided that the Kertajati Airport will be jointly operated by PT West Java International Airport (BIJB) with 51 percent shares and PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) with 49 percent shares. Currently, the Transportation Ministry is working on the apron extension for aircraft shelter. The runway is also extended from 3,000 meters to 3,300 meters. ALFI & HKI Agree on Inter-estate Access Cooperation
Logistics Centers Reduce Distribution Cost Indonesia still lags in term of logistics efficiency. Therefore, the government is trying to catch up by adding more Bonded Logistics Centers (PLBs). President Director of PT Cipta Krida Bahari (CKB Logistics), Imam Sjafei, said that the government is intensively developing PLBs with the target to make Indonesia as an Asia-Pacific logistics hub. ‘’PLBs assure the acceleration of the distribution of raw materials to the industries. So, the production can be timely,” he said during the inauguration of PLB Hub Logistics CKB Logistics warehouse in
Surabaya on Wednesday (9/6). The 30 thousand square meters of warehouse was built with an investment of Rp20 billion. The warehouse is targeted to reduce the imports, because all this time the domestic industries stored their raw materials in Malaysia or Singapore. PLB Hub Logistics is the fourth PLB in East Java after PLB Kamajaya, PLB Adi Perkasa, and PLB Indra Jaya Swastika. Since the inauguration of the first PLB in March 2016, the PLB growth in Indonesia has been increasing rapidly. Late last year, there were only
28 PLB. The number increased to 73 in early September and is targeted to reach one hundred units later this year. The total investment in the PLBs is estimated to reach Rp910 trillion. Chairperson of the Association of Indonesia Bonded Logistics Centers Ety Puspitasari added that PLB will reduce the cost to get the goods out of the port to transport them to the warehouse up to 40 percent. The customs processing time is also cut from four to five days to two days. “The dwelling time is shortened.” she said. (JWP/ TPP)
The Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) and the Indonesian Industrial Estate Association (HKI) have agreed to cooperate in inter-estate access. ALFI Chairman Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi said his party had discussed with HKI and formulated a number of cooperation points. “HKI welcomes and of course this will be communicated to the members of both associations and to the relevant ministries,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/19). According to Yukki, there are two things that become important points in the agreement. First, HKI agrees to open access between the industrial estates. Second, there may be two or three
locations of logistics centers in each estate. However, Yukki declined to further detail the cooperation. He only emphasized that the cooperation is not only a matter related to the limitation of truck operational hours. “We did not talk about trucks only, but more than that.” The cooperation of ALFI and HKI was established to find a solution from the plan to limit the operational hours of trucks on the Jakarta - Cikampek toll road. Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) will ban logistics trucks to pass through in peak hours of 6 am to 9 am. Previously, HKI Chairman Sanny Iskandar said he understood the conditions experienced by the logistics entrepreneurs regarding the many
restrictions on truck operating hours on the highway. “If it is restricted everyday how can we run it. Saturday and Sunday are restricted, holidays are restricted. While they say they want to increase the competitiveness,” he said. To that end, his association is ready to open access in the estates to make the traffics on the highway run smoothly. According to Sanny, about 40% of the trucks passing through the Cawang-Cikampek highway were empty on their return to the base. HKI advises the truck owners to rent a land plot in an industrial estate to park the trucks. Thus, the empty trucks do not need to run on the toll road. In addition to reducing congestion, it is also considered more efficient on the operational side. (BNS/TPP)

Let’s Go to the National Library and Enjoy Cool Educating Services! The National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas), on Jalan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, has evolved from three floors at the early days to now 27 floors. In addition to developing the physical infrastructure, the government is also improving its services to be enjoyed for free. The National Library’s Chief Secretary Dedi Junaedi said that from the 27 floors available, the management of the Library uses the 24 floors for the public education services. The facilities at the National Library Building, according to Dedi, are able to accommodate all elements of the society. “Well, from the first floor to the 24th floor, there are facilities for children, elderly, disabled and all other elements of the society. Please use it for free,” said Dedi in Jakarta, on Friday (9/15). Aside of the on-site services, people can enjoy its online services as well. The Perpusnas has also been developing the E-Pusnas or online library, along with the IOS (Indonesia One

Search) service. IOS is an online library network throughout Indonesia that is integrated with the Library. Through the IOS service, people can search for library materials – like books, literatures and academic or non-academic references - owned by the libraries throughout Indonesia with just one online service. “Of course, we hope IOS will connect all libraries in Indonesia,” said Dedi. Currently, IOS service is equipped with five million metadata derived from 500 libraries that have been integrated in the IOS network. As for E-Pusnas, Dedi added, this service has been enriched with 120,000 books and 12,500 other library materials that can be enjoyed in full text form. “Now we have about 500 libraries joined in the IOS with five million metadata. We have also provided a facility of E-Pusnas. To enjoy E-Pusnas, people can get the application from the playstore or via our website perpusnas.go.id. There are 12,500 literatures and 120,000 books in there that can be read in full text,” said Dedi. (OKZ/TPP)

Morowali Metal Industry Polytechnic will become the center of technological innovation and nickel based product development. This vocational school, established by the Industry Ministry, brings the concept of link and match with the industry. “So, in addition to providing education to produce competent and ready-to-work graduates, this campus will develop applied researches in cooperation with the industry,” said Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto in his speech at the Inauguration of the Morowali Metal Industry Polytechnic, Central Sulawesi, on Monday (9/18). According to the minister, the well preparation of skilled human resources (HR) is an important factor in spurring the growth of industry. “This polytechnic will support the metal processing industry, especially in Sulawesi.” The polytechnic is also expected to empower the local
communities to have better competence needed by the companies operating in the Morowali Industrial Estate. Currently, the 2,000 hectares industrial estate is housing nickel smelter factories with the workforce of about 10,000 people. The number of workers is predicted to reach 80,000 when the construction of all factories is finished. The metal industry experienced the highest growth in the second quarter of 2017, reaching 7.5 percent. This could increase the labor demand due to new investments and expansions. Airlangga said the Morowali Metal Industry Polytechnic was designed together by Industry Ministry and the industry players from the identification of competences needed, curriculum, to the selection of teaching staff. “So, the learning system is integrated between education on campus with the working practices in the industry or the so-called dual system.”

Currently we have entered the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era marked by the emergence of supercomputers, smart robots, unmanned vehicles, genetic editing, neurotechnology development, financial technology (fintech), and so on. However, the innovations were mostly produced by researchers abroad.
That was the reason why Melvin Harsono wants to become a researcher, by continuing his master’s degree (S2) education at Beijing Jiaotong University. The 22-year-old man has long been interested in electronic, programming, math, and physics. In 2013 Melvin decided to study at the Electrical Engineering Department of President Uni-
The 30-hectare polytechnic is equipped with complete research facilities and equipment, including the classrooms, laboratories, workshops, innovation centers, directorates, and libraries. These facilities aim to accelerate the process of technology transfer. According to Minister Airlangga, Morowali Metal Industry Polytechnic implements quality education providing scholarships with job placement. In the first year, the students will get a dormitory provided by PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) as the manager of Morowali Industrial Estate. The estate is developed under a cooperation between Bintang Delapan Group from Indonesia with Tsingshan Group from China. The first class of the polytechnic is 96 students who passed the entrance exam from 679 participants registered on July 14, 2017. They come from Morowali, Palu, Kendari, and Makassar. The D-III study pro-
gram will produce graduates of Mechanical Maintenance Engineering, Electrical and Installation Engineering, and Chemical Minerals Engineering. “We advise the students, who will undergo education for the next three years, to take advantage of this opportunity as well as possible. The education in Morowali Metal Industry Polytechnic is designed to train you with discipline and working attitude in accordance with the needs of today’s industry,” Airlangga said. IMIP’s Chairman Halim Mina projected that the Morowali Industrial Estate will need 25,000 more employees with D-III and D-IV educations in 2025. “We need a lot of professionals at the supervision level. It is hoped that the Morowali Metal Industry Polytechnic will produce graduates who master the technology of manufacturing factories in this industry.” Meantime Minister of Research, Technology and Higher

Easy to Adapt, Top Student of President University Continues Study in China with Scholarship versity. He chose President University for learning English as well since most of the lecturers graduated abroad. The first child of 2 siblings feels lucky to have studied at President University because it provides internship. “I once apprenticed at PT Denso Indonesia. I was tested beforehand and managed to get A. Here I learned the industry. In fact, I gave an input to PT Denso to make the productivity of one of its products better. Although my knowledge is basic electrical engineering, I learned the industrial engineering during the internship, so I’m ready for work,” said Melvin, who has a life motto “always learn from experiences”. As a student, he was active in several organizations and participated in competitions. “I was active in the Robotic Club President University Major Association of Electrical Engineering (PUMA EE) as a secretary for 2 periods (2014-2015 &
2015-2016), taking care of everything related to the proposals, reports and documentation of correspondences. I do have passion in organizing data. I was also active in KMB (Family of Buddhist Students) Ashokavardana, although I did not hold any position but I often helped organize events,” said Melvin, who is the Electromedic Competition Finalist at UMY. Wanting to be a technology inventor After graduating from President University in 2017, the Pontianak origin got a S2 scholarship from Beijing Jiaotong University. “I wanted to learn more about my thesis entitled Brain Computer Interface (BCI) for Land Mobile Robot Control Using Attention and Eye Blink Detection of FP1 Brodmann Atlas. Then, my supervisor, Dr. -Ing Erwin Sitompul recommended the Beijing Ji-
aotong University. Then, I signed up and managed to get full scholarship from CGS (Chinese Government Scholarship) to study in China,” said Melvin, a graduate with GPA 3.89. Currently, he lives in Beijing Jiaotong University Dormitory, where he is easily adapting to the new environment. “Here are a lot of international students. Because I was from President University, I have no trouble in terms of communication. I also use Mandarin to communicate with local people,” Melvin said. He chose China, because the country is leading in technology. Melvin pointed out, in Beijing they began to apply non-cash system using WeChat pay and Alipay for transactions in stores even street hawkers. Thus, here he can further learn the computer technology. “I aspire to be a researcher, and my big dream is to become
a technology inventor. I also want to set up a company that combines BCI and Virtual Reality (VR) for a better future to human,” said Melvin, who wants to be a conceptor and creates more conceptors in Indonesia, especially in computer technology. According to him, the technology development in Indonesia is still standard and lack of adequate facilities while relies on the imported ones. The solution to make Indonesia’s technology to not left behind is preparing its human resources. Indonesia should have more conceptors in computer technology, while the entrepreneurs should contribute in the Research and Development (R&D) so that the computer technology can grow and no longer depend on the applications from other countries. They demonstrated how to restore health using the Paida & Lajin method. The seminar attendees, mostly seniors, learned the Paida & Lajin method by patting the elbow area. President Director of Senior Living D’Khayangan Marlin Marpaung said, “One of our visions is to create a healthy lifestyle atmosphere. We continue to explore how exactly the healthy living therapies or methods can be applied sustainably.” He added that he wanted Senior Living D’Khayangan to provide the therapy regularly. “From the responses of the participants and also the masters (Pak Philip and Mrs. Sally), we are thinking to make D’Khayangan as the home base for Paida & Lajin in Indonesia and hold a regular event. So those who want to continuously practicing the self-healing method can participate in the event held at the D’khayangan or just interact with the therapists and have a gathering with other participants,” Marlin said. It was the first time the Paida & Lajin selfhealing therapy held in the Senior Living D’Khayangan. Previously, the Senior Living D’Khayangan once organized the Tai Chi selfhealing therapy event.
“There were also some self-healing therapies based on a healthy lifestyle through food held here before, but for Paida & Lajin this is the first time,” he added. Marlin said, “In the future we will continue to hold events that lead to a healthy lifestyle that is promotive and preventive for good health, either self-healing or other method that can be applied by the society.” Paida & Lajin is a therapy that involves ‘pats and stretches’ to remove toxins from the body. In the beginning, this practice was taught by a Taoist monk who cured diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Senior Living D’Khayangan is an exclusive integrated residence for the elderly who put forward the concept of service customized to the specific needs of individuals. Not like other nursing homes which usually provide the same service for everyone, the Senior Living D’Khayangan fulfills the personal needs of each individual from trivial to serious things like favorite food and nutritional need, eating hours, waking hours, sleeping hours, hobbies, as well as the need for regular vitamins and medicines. PGI and BIGC Hold Babel Golf Tournament XVI to Boost Tourism As many as 104 participants joined the Open Golf Tournament Babel Cup XVI Year 2017 at Bukit Intan Golf Course, Pangkalpinang, on Saturday (10/7).
The rotating trophy of the tournament was won by Ujang Permana as the winner of Best Gross Overall (BGO), while the Best Nett Overall (BNO) went to Asmidi. The tournament was officially opened by Deputy Governor of Babel (Bangka Belitung) H Abdul Fattah, accompanied by President Director of PT Timah (Persero) Tbk M Riza Pahlevi Thabrani, Chairman of PGI Babel Akhmad Rosidi, and Chairman of Executing Committee Dicky Sinoritha, who marked the start of tournament by hitting the smoke ball. The participant golfers came from Bangka Belitung, Batam, Jakarta, Bandung and Kali-
mantan. The Babel Cup tournament is an annual event. However the Open Golf Tournament Babel Cup XVI Year 2017 was held at the Bukit Intan Golf Course Pangkalpinang. Chairman of the Executing Committee Dicky Sinoritha said that there were 124 golfers who registered, but only 104 people were selected. According to Dicky the number of participants reaching more than 100 is considered quite good. “There has been no tournament for a long time. So, with that number of participant, the Open Golf Tournament Babel Cup 2017 can be said success-
ful,” said Dicky. He added the condition of BIGC golf course is sufficient enough, sponsored by PT Timah (Persero) Tbk. “Usually the tournament was held in Jakarta, outside Bangka Belitung. Now the golf course has been upgraded, so the PGI, Executing Committee and KONI Bangka Belitung organize the Open Golf Tournament Babel Cup XVI in Pangkalpinang.” Dicky said he hoped the next tournaments will be more successful. Chairman of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI) of Bangka Belitung, Akhmad Rosidi, added the committee limited the number of participants to 104 only
adjusted to the capacity of the golf course and the caddies. According to Akhmad Rosidi, the BIGC was chosen so that the participants can be traveling as well. “The initial idea is for friendship and promotion of tourism as well as fundraising for coaching athletes.” The golf course in Pangkalpinang, Akhmad Rosidi said, is quite unique because the green field can be seen all from the second floor of the Club House Bukit Intan Golf Course Pangkalpinang. He expressed his gratitude for the support of PT Timah (Persero) Tbk. Akhmad Rosidi added that he hoped the Open Golf Tournament Babel Cup can be held in
Belitung next year if the 18-hole golf course there has been managed professionally. Representing the participants, golfer Apik Chakib Rasjidi expressed his gratitude to the organizer who held the Open Golf Tournament 2017 in Babel. Apik, who is also Chairman of the Babel chapter of KONI (Indonesian National Sports Committee), also said there is a financial difficulty in coaching golf athletes in Babel. To raise fund, a tournament should be held every year. “Coaching the golf athletes in Babel needs more fund, especially if we have to send them away for training,” he added. (TRB/TPP)
