CTE repeats history in school pageant “Honestly, I am speechless. I don’t know what to say but I’ll accept it. I know it’s hard for me to accept this one but I’ll just accept the decision of the judges; but it is really a heart breaking one for me. I hope that I didn’t disappoint you guys. I have done my best and that’s life, there are times that you’re in your lowest time but I always believe and trust in God beside me and if this is not for me, I will try to venture new things for me to be able to have that satisfaction of winning,” Daypuyart said in an interview. On the other hand, Marianne Palcat of CTE finished first runner up as well. “The hardest thing I [encountered] in the process of preparation is… to sacrifice some of my academics just because of this pageant,” Palcat said in an interview.
History is repeated Justin Daypuyart, CTE represent, contemplates on the turnout of the competition. In his second attempt, he finished as 1st runner up.

too much confident is dangerous, always leave a room for improvement in yourself and most importantly trust God”, Princess Love Mariano, CTE contestant, said. The question that was asked was: ‘Research is currently integrated into our new educational system which appears to be a challenge to many students. As a student, what do you think is/are the values of research in life?’ “The challenge is there and we have to accept it. We have to take the risk. What we need is the unity of the institution and the unity of the government,” were the concluding sentences of Princess Love Mariano, 1st place in extemporaneous speech. The extemporaneous speaking contest was participated by eight departments while the story telling had nine participants coming from external and extension campuses of UA. Without my coach at mga taong naniwala sa akin na I can pull the performance, I don’t think I will have the courage na tumapak sa stage na yon. Kaya sobrang thankful ako sa mga taong naniwala sakin hanggang sa huli, kay God na hindi ako binigo at sa sarili ko dahil nagtiwala ako na kaya ko with God’s grace. No matter how hilarious my performance was, I made and kept the audience entertained and that’s what matters. Worth it yung pagod at puyat. Still can’t believe that I made it,” Sumugat said. The extemporaneous speaking and storytelling focused on the thinking skills of students and also their ability to speak in public. - Reah Rica Marie Padroncillo

Sufficient funding nurtures champions, but at whose expense? Some departments strive to keep their dominion. Some hunger for it. Some want to have it back. It’s that time of the year again. It’s time for the Game of Thrones. Like the seven squabbling kingdoms of Westeros, we squabble for domination. But unlike them, our fight is for the glory of truly becoming an Antique’s pride. For “One UA, One Pride.” Twelve competing teams from different colleges and campuses participate in this week-long rivalry. As athletes and artists battle for glory, are they well-supported and well-developed victors? In the midst of preparations for the intramurals, most of the teams encountered problems with the scarcity of budget to support the needs of their representatives--food, vitamins, and jerseys. The effect of this insufficiency toward the intramurals may be petty, but it still affects them, nevertheless, physically and mentally. Perhaps, the root cause of this problem is the failure of some students to pay their contributions for their respective colleges. Some students complain that the compulsory fee for the intramurals is just too much.It could have been handled properly if they had paid earlier. While it is true that complaints can’t be avoided, but it should not be tolerated since these are only acceptable when one understands the system. As students, we are expected to be responsible with our payments and help the college attain its goal. However, while one has the right to call out everyone who did not honor their obligations for their college, it is still unfair to generalize them as irresponsible students without the knowledge of

their situation. There are some students who are breadwinners and self-supporting. They struggle in earning money to support themselves in school while they contribute for their family’s needs. Much more to this, physical presence is always not a basis of being responsible because presence is not always voluntary. It can be also forced. On the other hand, everybody in the university is expected to live by the Red Ants Code of Conduct. As our athletes and the rest of the participants practice the code of conduct, it is also important that we instill in them the essential thought that beyond the jerseys, or the shortcuts to the regionals, or the perks after winning, are the purity of intention of the student to join in their respective contests and how they value character, camaraderie, and sportsmanship-- the core skills to hone champions. Perhaps what would encourage the students to voluntarily pay the contributions is by being transparent in terms of how the budget is utilized and how the remaining funds will be spent in the future activities of the college. Nevertheless, the budget problem is one thing and winning is another thing. Let us remember that we do this for holistic education and budgeting is part of that process. What makes a champion though is a long, enduring process of commitment and dedication. May we play the games fair and square and while we may say that ‘chaos is a ladder,’ we should also keep in mind that chaos doesn’t make our relationships grow stronger.
