1883 and 1887, it links Sturgeon and Cameron Lakes. Someone dubbed it, “Little Niagara” based on its horseshoe shape. Today, boats are still lifted and lowered with the rise and fall of the water. Head towards the lower side of the lock station and you’ll find the picturesque falls and the nearby hydro plant. Over the past three years, more than 753 feet of new docking was created.
It is one of the only docks on the System that can supply electrical outlets and municipal water to boaters. Lock 34 is a short stroll to all of the sites in Fenelon Falls. Here, historical architecture blends with both the natural environment and ongoing downtown beautification projects such as bountiful flower boxes adorning the bridge.

It’s A Lifestyle Have you ever stepped off your lawn and escaped into a relaxing and exciting place that banishes the stresses of everyday life? Ah, you must be a boater! If you love spending time outdoors, boating may be for you. Even the sights and sounds are different: the wiz of a fishing line as it’s cast out from the boat, splashes of waves, and shrieks of laughter as kids twirl around the lake on a tube, the water lapping against the hull at dusk as you settle down for a night on the lake. There are hundreds of lakes and rivers within reach to explore, and a plethora of sports and hobbies to enjoy. If you ask a dozen different boaters what they like about boating, you’ll get twelve different answers. One commonality is that boating bridges generations and brings families and friends together. Boating offers benefits to kids of all ages: fishing, swimming, tubing, wakeboarding, scuba diving, camping, cruising or chilling out and enjoying the sun, stars and each others’ company. From bowriders to fish and skis, cruisers to dayboats, pontoons to deckboats and sport-specific boats intended for waterskiing, wakeboarding and fishing, there is a boat suited just for you. Buckeye Marine is an internationally award-winning, family-owned and operated boat dealership that has been located in Bobcaygeon since 1949. Our full sales and service dry land facility is located in the Kawartha Lakes region between Pigeon and Sturgeon lakes on the Trent-Severn Waterway. As boaters, we appreciate relaxing, carefree days on the lake. Bring your family out and join ours. After all, boating is not only our business it’s our lifestyle, too!

Who can resist the lure of the Kawartha Lakes region, when it’s just over an hour northeast of Toronto and has over 200 square miles of controlled water levels between the locks at Bobcaygeon and Buckhorn to enjoy? Linked by the scenic Trent-Severn Waterway, there are all kinds of recreational choices for boaters, paddlers and anglers. Fenelon Falls Marina provides sales, service and storage plus parts for toys of every season. There are boats and assorted watercraft plus winter sport fun toys that
cater to both those seeking to relax and those looking for some high performance ‘thrills and spills adventure’ in the area. In need of repairs and parts? Many of the marinas in the area offer shop bays, hydraulic lifts and experienced and certified technicians for mechanical and electrical boat repairs. A large local inventory, docking, slips, golf and dining are just some of the amenities around the area from modern facilities open 7 days a week. Gordon Yacht Harbour Marina facilitates seasonal and transient boat docking on the Trent-Severn Waterway in the heart of the Village of Bobcaygeon, below Lock 32 on Pigeon Lake. The marina claims to have the longest and best boating season available in the Kawarthas and Trent System. Organic and farm fresh is the pride of the Kawarthas. Spotted along the highway are roadside vegetable and fruit stands with locally grown, hand picked and organic produce. You’ll also meet local farmers at roadside markets where they may spontaneously park their truck, pop up an umbrella for shade and set up shop, to provide food from the farm and local

Accomodations Cottagers & Communities
Cottagers who visit for the summer season often become part of a community group in one of many small hamlets tucked along the shores that make up the rural neighbourhoods of the Kawartha Lakes and countryside. Arenas, Community Centers & Community Halls are gathering places for groups and individuals who live work and play in this area. We see families, farmers, fisherman, trades people and professionals, as just a few of the mix that make up the mosaic of the northern visitors and residents.

Kawarthas B&B Green Escape by Dawn Carolee
Several years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Sagar Constantin, creator and author of the bestselling book, Neo Feng Shui. Intrigued by her depth of decorating knowledge, I asked her to help me choose a colour of paint for the walls of my home that would lend peace to my private sanctuary. I work from home. She suggested I use green for the walls directly in front of my desk. Green. I love the colour. It has depth and warmth, like a forest at dusk. The shade brings calm to my soul and clears any clutter that may get in the way of my train of thought.
Since then, I’ve learned that green is also known as a healing colour. There are few places in the city, where I can enjoy the lush green grass and foliage on any given day. Like many of the artists who live, work and play in this area, I take pleasure in the many hues of green that are displayed in our natural surroundings when I enjoy the luxury of working from my laptop. I moved to the Kawartha Lakes six years ago and I live by the river surrounded by towering trees, rustling leaves and thick evergreens that block views from my neighbours. Friends visit often. My “happy place” reminds me of my northern roots in Thunder Bay. Here too, the air is rich with oxygen and each breath of fresh, sweet life comes from the plants that thrive. Greenery provides not only shade, but serenity too, by the river. Green opens my mind to all kinds of creative possibilities.
I do my best work here. Little wonder. Whether you come here to work or to relax, take in the pleasure of a new sunrise each day, and let nature speak through the greenery, the river and the wind. A leading British mental charity, Mind, has shown that eco-therapy promotes mental health as a result of spending time in the green, great outdoors. My green paradise is nestled by the river, right between “Buck” and “Bob” (Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon.) I extend my welcome throughout all four seasons. By the River is available for individuals, couples and small groups for themed day trips, weekend getaways and guided retreats. It’s located in the beautiful Kawartha Lakes region between Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon, just 2 hours N/E of Toronto, ON. Call 705.341.8426 or make your reservation online at www. dawnbytheriver.ca.

Chamber President Message Welcome to Fenelon Falls
the last Saturday in November. Record crowds enjoyed all the free activities from entertainers, artisans, crafters and more! Hundreds of guests enjoyed the wagon and horse-ride throughout the village and free giveaways at several locations, all sponsored by more than 155 local businesses. We’re pleased the development of the third phase of docking facilities along the downtown waterfront was completed in time for the opening of the 2012 boating season. Fenelon Falls has become a prime destination for boaters! This latest 212foot addition also includes the supply of hydro and municipal water, both available from the TSW, Lock 34. Just board the Kawartha Spirit Cruise Boat, go through the locks, travel along the adjoining lakes, and marvel at our huge waterfall next to the Power Plant, right in the center of the village. Then drop in and say hello to our wonderful staff in the Chamber building that overlooks the waterway. They are eager to serve you.
