2016 Home Décor Trends You know what’s great about home décor trends? If you can’t keep up with them, you can always try again next year because they’re constantly changing. Whether you’re considering a remodel or you’re in the market for a new home, it’s important to know what’s trending this year. It’s equally important not to fall prey to every fad trending on Pinterest. While some timeless trends like fireplaces, walk -in closets and dual sinks will remain classic, others will come and go sooner than you can install them. Regardless of what’s here to stay, I present to you my ten choices for what’s trending in 2016.
Welcome to the design world: Black stainless steel. Polished stainless steel and pastel ovens, your days are numbered. If black is a bit too dark for your kitchen, you can opt for a copper alternative. Formal dining rooms. Although an “open concept” is still popular and functional, entertainers are going back to a formal space for dinner parties and family meals. Mismatched cabinets. Say goodbye to the all-white kitchen and say hello to going bold. Keep your upper cabinets neutral while playing with wood tones and deep colors for your lowers. Heated entryway floors. Slipping your snow boots off on a warm floor? Why didn’t we think of this sooner? Deep kitchen drawers. Because storage is never going out of style, deep drawers under your stove top or creatively placed in corners continue to replace lower cabinets. Tech-less living rooms. Choosing to leave the television out of your living room plans allows for a more welcoming and comfortable feel and gives us a reason to unplug at the end of the day. Bathrooms that feel like living spaces. Chandeliers, plush chairs and fresh flowers instantly transform a sterile space into a more comfortable living area. Indoor / outdoor spaces. There doesn’t have to be a boundary between your indoor and outdoor space. In fact, if you do it right, your square footage seemingly doubles. Two sinks in the kitchen. Add value with dual work zones. It started with dual sinks in the bathroom and just makes sense. The color gray. If you’re looking for a new paint color, gray is edging out the beige era. It gives life to everything in a room and adds a very fresh and modern feel. 2015 was a year of DIY space saving hacks, a trend that hasn’t quite run its course yet. What we can say goodbye to are mason jars, chalkboard paint and burlap details. Keep in mind that it’s not always necessary to upgrade or renovate before you put your home on the market. Your realtor should be there to walk you through any necessary improvements and “as is” homes are being sold just as they always have. As with all things in life, you have to choose your battles. Decide what’s in your budget and what’s most functional for your lifestyle right now.
