About the Chamber

ver the course of 44 years, the WESTERVILLE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE has worked to advance its Members’ success in business and strive to accomplish the Chamber’s vision of connecting every Business to every opportunity. With more than 550 members representing various business and community interests, the Westerville Area Chamber serves as the business voice of the community, enhancing the community’s quality of life and the economic, civic and cultural growth of the Westerville area. The chamber is a private, nonprofit, taxpaying corporation. The strength of the chamber lies in its members, creating a pool of resources from which ideas, creativity and finances flow.

The Chamber is ...

• Comprised of 15 active committees made up of businesses focusing on the chamber’s mission. • An organization that brings value-added benefits, such as reduced pricing for group rated benefit plans like health insurance and workers’ compensation premiums, and office supplies. • Comprised of monthly meetings and annual events; 34 opportunities are available per year for members to network and promote their business and services to other chamber members and community leaders. The Westerville Area Chamber represents member businesses by advocating on their behalf at the local and state government levels. The Chamber also works to provide opportunities for members to learn more about the issues that may impact their business through Legislative and Candidate Forums and Election Academy. The Chamber, through its charitable arm, the Westerville Chamber Foundation, gives back to the community in many ways such as the selection and recognition of the Jim Near High School Scholarship Recipients and annual scholarships to the Otterbein MBA Program, Leadership Westerville, and Life Long Learning. The Chamber was also instrumental in the creation of the Leadership Westerville Program and contributes to the annual Christmas tree lighting in front of city hall. For those who do not know me, I am President/CEO of Associated Financial Services, which is a full financial service company specializing in your business and individual needs. I am a proud graduate of Defiance College, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Management, with a minor in Economics. My career in the financial service industry began in 1994 with Merrill Lynch Investment Company. In 2004, I Scott Grotelueschen, moved to Associated Financial Services, located in Westerville. Associated Financial I reside in Lewis Center with my wife Allison and four chilServices dren, Trent, Lizzie, Gabbie and Lexi. I have great enthusiasm for the Westerville community. Westerville’s mandatory tax filing policy requires that residents ages 18 and older and businesses file City of Westerville income tax returns, regardless of whether or not they owe tax. Westerville levies an income tax of two percent (2.00%) on income earned within the city. he Westerville Parks and Recreation Department’s mission is to create community through people, parks and programs. Westerville’s Parks and Recreation Department is nationally accredited and a National Gold Medal Award winner for excellence in park and recreation administration. The department offers a variety of leisure services and programs to residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. Westerville is proud to be the only Ohio community designated “Sportstown Ohio.” Through the leadership of the Parks and Recreation Department, Westerville was selected as the Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Sportstown for the state of Ohio by NRPA and Sports Illustrated magazine. he Westerville Visitors and Convention Bureau (WVCB) promotes tourism, attracts visitors and events to the Westerville Area, and is involved in the planning and promotion of many Westerville events. he purpose of the Westerville Uptown Merchants Association (WUMA) is to increase the visibility of the Uptown district as a business, shopping and entertainment destination. WeCONNECT Community Data Center Opens for Business ®

he nation’s first municipal community data center is open for business in Westerville. The WeConnect® community data center, five years in the making, began as a vision to bring the most advanced technologies and conveniences within reach of businesses in and around the City of Westerville. The center serves as a connectivity hub – or data hotel of sorts – for local and regional business, offering world-class support for cloud computing, co-location, broadband services and server rack space and security. A carrier-neutral facility, the data center provides businesses of all sizes access to the most advanced technologies so that they can thrive locally and compete globally. “The City has invested in a fiber backbone that spans our corporate limits, and the data center is the physical building that makes Westerville a truly progressive community,” said Chief Information Officer Todd Jackson. “It’s by choice, not chance, that Westerville can offer access to advanced infrastructure that supports our community partners and businesses.” Construction on the 16,000-square-foot facility was completed November 2011, with the first business moving into space the following month to take advantage of a suite of services designed to help local businesses grow. And by allowing businesses to offer their own services through the data center, Westerville plans to attract new business to the community. It is part of the program meant to provide an edge to Westerville’s economic development efforts and bring or keep jobs in the community. “This is an opportunity for businesses to have advantages to grow without increasing capital costs,” said Jason Bechtold, Westerville’s Economic Development Administrator. “What they save in time and money gets reinvested back into their business and benefits the community as a whole.” The data center is being managed by Data Recovery Services (DRS), a Youngstown, Ohio-based technology firm. The unique relationship between DRS and Westerville 16

maintains the City-owned infrastructure (data center and fiber) while data center services are provided and managed by DRS and broadband services are provided by commercial carriers. Jackson said Westerville developed a model for a data center public/private partnership because none existed. The City owns the center, while DRS, a regional provider of data center design and services, manages operations. “We’re excited about leveraging an award-winning service platform combined with the innovative thinking that the City has embraced to make Westerville a technology destination for businesses,” said DRS CEO Mike Meloy. In WeConnect®, Westerville has created a distinctive attraction that should appeal to businesses looking to start or looking to grow. “This is what we heard when we asked businesses what they needed in

New Emergency Care Center to Open in June 2012

Expansion at OhioHealth Westerville Medical Campus fills health care gap, offers around-the-clock emergency treatment option

hioHealth Westerville Medical Campus will expand its wide range of outpatient services in June 2012 when it opens a 16-bed emergency department, known as the Emergency Care Center at OhioHealth Westerville Medical Campus. “The Emergency Care Center is a new addition to the OhioHealth hospitals’ emergency department system and will be staffed 24/7 by board-certified emergency medicine physicians, nurses and clinicians,” said Jean Halpin, Director of Operations, Westerville Medical Campus. “The same experienced physicians who staff the emergency departments at Grant Medical Center, Riverside Methodist Hospital and Dublin Methodist Hospital will staff the Emergency Care Center.” Although not physically connected to a hospital as traditional emergency departments are, the medical campus addition replicates the full array of services and procedures offered by hospital emergency departments. The center fills a gap on the health care continuum between urgent care and the hospital emergency department. “It will be a wonderful asset for Westerville because it will give residents

another qualified facility that’s always open and capable of handling most emergencies,” said Paul Gabriel, M.D., Medical Director of the Emergency Care Center. “Our emergency-trained physicians and staff have the expertise to handle anything that comes through our doors. We expect to treat 95 percent of patients who come to us. More serious patients needing hospitalization will be stabilized at the Emergency Care Center and transferred to an appropriate facility.” The two-story, 48,000 square-foot facility will feature comfortable waiting areas and private patient rooms and be equipped with the most advanced laboratory and radiology services available. It will accept ambulance traffic as well as walk-in patients.

ount Carmel St. Ann’s Project GRACE celebrates a $110 million expansion at Westerville’s hospital, featuring a new patient tower with 60 additional inpatient beds, expanded health care services, a new hospital grand entrance facing south, expanded kitchen and dining facilities, a parking garage and more than 200 new jobs. “To meet the health care needs of the growing populations in the communities Mount Carmel St. Ann’s serves, we are committed to elevating St. Ann’s into a regional medical center with increased capacity and state-of-theart clinical services and technologies,” says Claus von Zychlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mount Carmel Health System. Major clinical service lines which have been or will be expanded at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s include cardiovascular care (with open heart surgery), oncology/ cancer care (which offers central Ohio’s only CyberKnife technology for treating certain tumors), orthopedics, neurology/stroke care, vascular care, perinatology/maternal-fetal medicine (specialized care of a woman and fetus/baby,.especially in.complicated,.high-risk pregnancies),.women’s health/breast health and spine care. This expansion means that they can continue the tradition they helped establish – which is that Westerville is a caring, comfortable destination for residents and visitors alike in all aspects, and certainly for first-class health care,” says Westerville Mayor Kathy Cocuzzi. “We congratulate Mount Carmel St. Ann’s on this achievement and what it means for an even deeper commitment and broader scope of services that will benefit all of Central Ohio.” The expansion project will enable integration among cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and vascular surgeons – all working together to provide comprehensive, integrated patient care. Among cardiac patients, 30 percent also have vascular disease, and among vascular patients, up to 90 percent also have cardiac disease. Accreditations and certifications for select Mount Carmel St. Ann’s clinical services include:

• Obstetrics and neonatal services designated as Level III Perinatal Centers capable of providing the highest quality of care for at-risk pregnant woman and seriously ill and premature infants. The Newborn Intensive Care Unit is leased and operated by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. • Accreditation as a Chest Pain Center with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention by the international Society of Chest Pain Centers. To receive this accreditation, hospitals must demonstrate proficiency in the early assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with acute coronary syndromes like heart attack as well as community outreach and collaboration with local Emergency Medical Services providers. • Mount Carmel Health System’s Network Cancer Program (including Mount Carmel St. Ann’s) received an “Outstanding Achievement Award” from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. ationwide Children’s Hospital’s Westerville campus currently consists of two buildings, the main Close To Home building and the Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center. Each building provides specialized services that meet many of the essential health care needs of the community.
