St Jude’s is the latest charity added to the list of foundations that the QueenS will be fundraising for in 2016. This is an organization that for more than half a century has been finding cures for and saving children, and their ground-breaking research has pushed the survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20% in 1962 to more than 80% today. Danny Thomas officially opened St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital on February 4, 1962, with the unveiling of the statue of St Jude Thaddeus. Please visit their Timeline to learn more about this amazing Foundation and why The QueenS are so proud to be supporting them! https://www.stjude.org/

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event. In 2004, Second Life became the venue for a different type of Relay for Life - a virtual one. Every year since then, people from all over the world raise Lindens dollars and USD for the fight against cancer. In 2013, Relay for Life in Second Life raised over $393,000 and had participants from over 20 different countries. h t t p : / / w w w . relayforlifeofsecondlife. org

Now I lay me down to sleep. This organization introduces remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with a free gift of professional portraiture. NILMDTS trains, educates, and mobilizes professional quality photographers to provide beautiful heirloom portraits to families facing the untimely death of an infant. They believe that these images serve as an important step in the family’s healing process by honoring the child’s legacy. https://thequeensatsl. files.wordpress. com/2015/01/10455128_ 875672815790510_ 3512644340840988765_ n.jpg

PUBLISHER’S NOTE The world has blessed all of us with so many things. Whether we analyze the virtual world or the real world, there are so many things that we should be grateful for. Us, The Queens, are a group of strong, independent and kind ladies who are determined to use fashion and style in order to spread awareness and to give back to the world as much as possible. Thus, it should come as no surprise that we wanted to extend to a publishing environment. This magazine is more of a gift from us, The Queens, to you, dear reader. It is our appreciation for all the support we have been received from our friends. To talk about something in this note is rather difficult. Lately, we have all been witnesses to several incredibly rough events that happened all around the globe. Whether we’re talking about the Paris, Istanbul and Brussels attacks, about the deaths of many incredible people such as Renee Angelil or David Bowie - or most recently - the Nigeria fire. It’s easy to observe that the global society is, at the moment, in desperate need of kindness. It is in our power to spread this kindness: the changes that our future needs are in our hands, and I am not just talking

about the Queens, but about every single inhabitant of this earth. About you, dear reader. About me. About all of us. Through this note, I have chosen to reflect what our mission as Queen’s is: to promote kindness and to spread awareness. I could talk about many things… style, fashion, gowns and sparkles could be some of the many subjects I could tackle whilst trying to send my message to you. However, this is not my mission. When I created The Queen’s, my main purpose was to join hands with many powerful ladies who together can make a statement louder than anything before. Why would I then deviate from my initial purpose?

for Life Foundation, and, last but not least, the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. These four causes are the main reason of our existence and I urge you to donate, donate and donate to them. There are moments in life when a single dollar can make a change, and as I said earlier, it is in our hands to make a change and change the fate of humanity.

I hope that you will enjoy this seasonal magazine that we so carefully put together, that you will be inspired from our style and that you will be motivated to participate, side by side with us, in all the charitable activities that we will promote. Until the next issue, I wish that you are peaceful, calm and happy. Never Writing this, a quote forget that kindness is comes to mind. This the strongest soldier in year, during Miss the army. Universe, Pia Wurtzbach (who happened to win the pageant), said that she wants to be: “Confidently beautiful with a soul.” This is exactly what I had in mind when I developed the plan for this magazine: showing people that us, The Queens, use fashion to promote our dear causes. Here, it is necessary for me to mention, thank and support The Team Fox Foundation, the Tiny Footsteps Foundation, the Relay

Dream Love

INTERVIEW WITH

DREAM LOVE

When was the QueenS created and why? The QueenS were created in August of 2014 and I was so happy with the huge response that we received from all the amazing models and designers jumping in and willing to help out right away. The response was so amazing, that in few days we had a waiting list of about 40 people. That made me really happy, but the real reason why I created the group was to create an opportunity for models and beauty pageant contestants to use their crown exposure and credibility to help and support real life non-profit foundations. Did you have any problems getting the QueenS to work with you without receiving compensation like they would normally? Absolutely no problems at all! It was actually one of the most amazing and rewarding feelings to see how prompt and happy they were whenever they were requested to either be part of a show, event or even just to post some article on our Facebook media. I can say the same thing about the designers and sponsors that have always been so amazing to us. None of this would be possible without them. Can you explain about your background and why you love pageants so much? I do have a great passion for pageants and I have had several opportunities in real life to work on and be involved very closely with them through some relatives I helped. What is a dream you have not accomplished yet? I consider myself pretty lucky when comes to my career in SL. From a modeling perspective, I have pretty much done everything that I could possibly dream about. I believe that I have been invited to work with pretty much all the main and most important agencies on the grid. I have done countless vendors and runway shows and I have managed to get my blog and media pretty good exposure. One of the more recent fashion posts on Dream’s page got over 21,000 views and that is pretty rewarding! But if I have to mention a dream not yet accomplished, I would say that an idea I would really like to see happen is where a serious contest would be created based on votes that are open to the public with some type of instant live results. All results would be clear and shared‌ nothing like the ones we have seen for so long where no one gets to see the actual judges notes which of course, may cause results to easily be manipulated by the organizers. I believe that doing something transparent would make a lot more people interested in participating in serious and good pageants again.

What would you say to people that don’t like pageants by saying they promote beauty only? First of all, what’s wrong with promoting beauty? Should we really discriminate against beautiful people? For ages, beauty pageants have taken place in real life and if they were a bad thing, they wouldn’t be so successful in so many countries! Secondly, I really would like people to take a deeper look into the contests and to try to realize that pageants are actually a lot more then showcasing beauty. It’s actually really hard work and it requires a lot from the contestants. Of course, I’m talking about serious and well-structured events and to be part of those requires a lot of talent, time, dedication and love for and knowledge of fashion. You need excellent styling skills and most of the time, you are forced to put together outfits that will be under heavy judgement in a few days plus you need to research your walks and poses which makes it even harder than the real life pageants. On top of this, your behavior is under scrutiny at all times: how you are with others, how considerate you are of your fellow contestants, your punctuality and how well you deliver on your projects. This evaluation can sometimes last for months and trust me, it takes a lot of good mental preparation to handle it all – especially considering you have a real life that demands your attention. That’s why I especially admire people in SL that enter contests and that can present high quality performances and manage to make it through to the end. I would love to see the people that criticize SL pageants have a go themselves and last three months… then we will talk! A lot of people say that SL is not the same. Do you agree? Absolutely – yes. SL is not the same and it’s sad to see many good models and designers leaving. Unfortunately, these days it’s all about the media outside of Second Life like Facebook and blogs. For models with incredible fashion and styling skills, that cannot afford to have good pictures taken or that don’t have Photoshop knowledge, they can be totally out of luck and are slowly leaving SL fashion. What you see happening in Second Life is something that you will never see in real life; models have been forced to become bloggers in order to stay in the market and that is totally wrong. A great model should not be compared to bloggers. They are two very different things: each one has their expertise and knowledge to sell and advertize the designers on the runway and in magazine adverts for example. On the other hand, bloggers that have no fashion skills or that don’t even know what is going on with the fashion grid, are just being chosen

to advertize new collections for the simple fact they will do it fast and perhaps have a good number of followers. So… it might be working now, but it’s clear to me that in the long run, it will have a negative impact on the grid. Anything new coming up that you would like to share? Yes! Now that the magazine is out, we will have some extra time to work again with foundations and charities by helping them with some new fundraising activities. Also, we will absolutely have a new show and have several campaigns lined up. You can also expect that the first The QueenS casting is sure one of these projects. I’m looking forward to working hard and seeing our unique events take place again!

I’d like to see the critics of pageants try to compete in a serious pageant. When they put up with the pressure, that’s when I will listen to them!
