Information Key to Central Ohio:
The City of Columbus is a home-rule municipal corporation under the laws of the State of Ohio. The city charter provides a Mayor-Council form of government with a full-time mayor serving a fouryear term and seven part-time council members elected at large to four-year terms at two-year intervals. Columbus is the seat of government forFranklin County and is the capital of the State of Ohio. Ohio has 18 of the Electoral College’s 538 Votes.
Education

Careers
Geographic Location of Columbus
Columbus is located in the center of the state, halfway between the Ohio River and Lake Erie. Columbus is 187 miles west of Pittsburgh, 326 miles east of Chicago, 142 miles south of Cleveland, and 111 miles northeast of Cincinnati.
History
The first structures near Columbus’ city center were not the high-rise buildings you see there today, but earthen mounds constructed by the Mound Builder’s Indian tribe. In the 1700s the first European explorers entered the Midwest using the rivers as thoroughfares. The first settler in what is now known as Columbus was Lucas Sullivant, a surveyor from Kentucky, who surveyed Franklinton. When Ohio became a state in 1803, the first capital was in Chillicothe. Not many years later, the capital was moved to a more central location, Franklinton, which was known as the “Buggy Capital of the World” in 1880, because of the more than 20 companies producing horse-drawn carriages at the time.
Columbus offers a diverse range of industries and careers for workers, including banking, manufacturing, finance, insurance, wholesale, retail trade, transportation, utilities, construction, health care, government, and services.

Bexley
Clintonville
bexley.org
clintonville.com
The City of Bexley was established in 1908 with its own elected mayor, city council, and police department. Just east of downtown, Bexley has a small population of approximately 14,000, with outstanding schools and excellent city services. Along with the public school system, Bexley is home to the exceptional Columbus School for Girls and St. Charles Preparatory School for boys. Bexley is also home to Capital University. It is populated with Tudor Style mansions as well as contemporary homes and condominiums. Many of the grand old houses were built during the prosperous 1920s and still carry the names of their original owners Jeffrey, Huntington, and Lazarus.
Further north along High Street are the communities of Clintonville and Beechwold. Whetstone Park is located here and is a popular spot with the Columbus Park of Roses where 11,000 rose bushes on 13 acres can be visited. These are two highly sought-after neighborhoods for people who want quiet streets and rows of quaint two-story homes, brick ranches, and Dutch colonials. These neighborhoods are like a city-within-a-city in Columbus.

German Village
Olde Towne East
germanvillage.com
oldetowneeast.org
German Village, immediately south of I-70 in downtown Columbus, originally housed many German workers in the 19th century. Today, it is a tourist center with gift shops, restaurants, and a history museum. The picturesque houses range from snug story-and-a-half brick bungalows to Victorian brick mansions. Schiller Park offers Summer Theater, flower gardens, and a reflecting pool. The White House has a designated German Village as a Preserve America Community for its historic preservation efforts. It is the first Ohio neighborhood to receive such a designation.
Olde Towne East was one of the first neighborhoods of Columbus. Some homes were built as early as the 1830s and represent more than 50 architectural styles. It was once Columbus’ wealthiest neighborhoods and many of the homes are now being restored. Homes in this area range from relatively modest two-story residences to magnificent Victorian homes surrounding Franklin Park Conservatory and lining Bryden Road.
Grandview Heights
universitydistrict.org
grandviewheights.org Grandview Heights is an older neighborhood west of downtown and The Ohio State University. It has a strong sense of identity and a diverse mix of housing from older two-story frame homes with big front porches to a luxury high-rise condominium tower. Grandview has a busy entertainment and commercial district that includes gourmet restaurants, movie theaters, antique shops, and art galleries. Its residents are as diverse as its housing, and as in Bexley, there is a core of long-term citizens who were born and raised there.
Italian Village italianvillage.org Italian Village is a small neighborhood just north of downtown and east of High Street in the Short North area. Most of the homes were built between 1880 and 1915. Today many twostory brick and frame homes are being renovated under the guidelines of the Italian Village Commission. New housing and condos are rapidly appearing due to the short walking distance to the art galleries, restaurants, and jazz clubs in the Short North. Italian Village has become one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Columbus. It is part of the fabulous Short North! It is hip, it is convenient to downtown, and it is affordable.
University District Experience the energy of the neighborhoods that surround the country’s largest public institution of higher learning and make up the University District! Columbus Suburban Communities City of Delaware delawareohio.net On May 9, 1808, Byxbe filed or, “platted” the “plan of the town of Delaware,” marking the real beginning of the present City of Delaware. Following the War of 1812, settlers began arriving at a faster pace, including the parents of Rutherford B. Hayes, 19th President of the United States. Hayes was born in Delaware and met his future wife, Lucy, at Ohio Wesleyan University. Ohio Wesleyan was founded in 1842 by Methodists seeking to establish a liberal arts college. The Little Brown Jug is one of the premier events in harness racing that is held every year at the Delaware County Fair during the third week of September.
Dublin dublinohiousa.gov Growth must be Dublin’s middle name! From its diminutive antique village settled in the

early 1800s along the Scioto River, the village has sprawled outward many miles from its center. Most Dublin residents live in large, master-planned communities. Several larger planned communities surround golf courses, including Tartan Fields and Muirfield Village, home to the annual PGA Memorial Tournament. Dublin is also one of the most highly regarded school districts in the nation. Recreation is important to Dublin residents and they have a Community Recreation Center with a 240-seat theater, indoor soccer fields, and an ice-skating rink at Sports Ohio. There are also more than 800 acres of parks and miles of walking paths. The annual Irish Festival and St. Patrick’s Day Parade draws visitors from everywhere for good Irish fun! Dublin is revered for creating an outstanding quality of life for its residents, and the Bridge Street District which opened in 2020 further enhances that sense of community. Within walking distance of the heart of the city, Historic Dublin, the Bridge Street District hosts city celebrations and community events, connecting neighborhoods, businesses, civic uses, and green space.

In 1992, the Parade of Homes built the master-planned community, including schools, market square, and a country club which were all designed to reflect brick and wood siding Georgian style homes in Boston Bay Area and Tidewater in Virginia. Miles of trails connect all the neighborhood parks. There is a state-ofthe-art Aquatic Center and a 27-hole champion golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The new homes in New Albany’s architecturally controlled areas (in the white fenced areas) are selling in a price range from half a million dollars to millions of dollars. Delaware County Property Taxes
Annually, the Auditor prepares the General Tax list and duplicate. Your tax bill is based on the tax rate multiplied by your valuation on this duplicate. This is your proportionate share of the cost of operating your local government including schools., Townships, Villages, and the County. Ohio law limits the amount of taxation without a vote of the people to what is known as the “10 mill limit” ($10 per thousand of assessed valuation). Any additional real estate taxes for any purpose must be voted by County residents. Your “tax rate” is an accumulation of all these levies and bond issues. delaware-auditor-ohio.manatron.com

Real estate tax collection begins with the assessment of the real estate parcels in Franklin County. Ohio law requires counties to revalue all real estate property every six years with an update at the three-year midpoint as ordered by the Tax Commissioner of the State of Ohio. treasurer.franklincountyohio.gov/About-Taxes www.franklincountyauditor.com

Schiller Park is the second oldest park in the City of Columbus and was obtained in 1867. The park is now a well-kept central location of German Village life. The recreation center, picnic areas, softball diamonds, fishing pond, and stage for the Actor’s Summer Theater, not to mention the beautifully landscaped gardens, make Schiller Park the jewel of German Village.
The Metro Park System was created in 1945 and each park has its own lodges, facilities, picnic areas, nature walk talks, and activities.
With a mandate to help improve the overall well-being of residents, Columbus Parks are beautiful and fun, providing an outlet to benefit both mental and physical health while encouraging residents to focus on the environment.
