NEW STUDENT

91st SGA president welcomes new Rams Fellow students, Hello and welcome to Texas Wesleyan! We are glad and excited that you are here to share in the experiences that will make you a Texas Wesleyan student. As you begin your time here I hope that you will feel at home and welcomed into the Ram family. If your experience is anything like mine as a student here, you will love this campus and love the unique challenges and opportunities that being a student here will bring. As you begin to create your own Texas Wesleyan experiences, I hope your pride in being a Ram will grow as you go to classes, attend student life events, and participate in campus organizations. I look forward to meeting you and seeing you around campus. We’re proud to have you as a Ram! Laura Alexander 91st President of SGA Michael Davila | Courtesy

New Student What can the Academic Success Center offer me?

The Academic Success Center, which is located on the first floor of the Eunice & James L. West Library, offers a variety of resources to help all the students of Texas Wesleyan reach their academic goals. In addition to a computer lab, that is open for writing and research purposes, the Academic Success Center offers a variety of other things for the students.

May 2012

• Tutoring — Students can get tutoring help in the subjects of math, writing, logic, psychology and history. Various professors and student workers are always ready and willing to assist students in need. While it is best for students to call and make an appointment to meet with a tutor, the center will not turn away any walk-ins. Tutor-

6

ing sessions for study groups are also available upon request.

• Skype Tutoring — A recent addition, added for the convenience of students, in the Skype tutoring program. With a webcam, students can chat with their tutor over their computers. • Workshops — The Academic Success Center also holds a variety of learning workshops that cover topics such as note taking, how to study for a test and how to prepare one’s self for finals week. There are also the TransFormation workshops, which are aimed primarily at helping transfer students at the university to adjust to their new environment. There is also the Lunch Box series of workshops in

which students can enjoy a nice meal while they learn skills that will help them succeed academically.

• Mentorship Program — The Academic Success Center also helps new students find a mentor. An upperclassmen will take students under their wings, and offer helpful advice and guidance whenever they can. For more information about the Academic Success Center, contact Director of Student Support Services, Melody Bell Fowler or Assistant Director and Learning Specialist, Michael Anne Greer. mbellfowler@txwes.edu mgreer@txwes.edu
