Tips to add curb appeal to your home this winter.
Now that the green grass is fading and the leaves have fallen, it may seem more challenging to add curb appeal to your home. Although you cannot depend on your garden’s flowers to make a first impression, there is plenty that can be done during the snow-filled months to make your house look warm and inviting.
Here are a few tips to help you make your home sparkle during those bleak winter months.
1. Clean up! This is applicable anytime of year, but is especially important in the winter. Make sure that any debris and leaves left over from the fall have been cleaned up so that buyers can see the potential of your yard. Tidy up flower beds so that they look clean and ready for spring.
2. Add some lights. Use the long winter nights to your advantage. Add some white strands of lights to your home’s entrance or shrubbery to make it look welcoming. Also make sure your home and your driveway are well-lit. This safety feature will impress potential buyers and also make your house stand out amongst the rest.
3. Update your house numbers and the hardware on your door. This is a great way add some style to your property. Make sure the new numbers are large enough to read from the street. This safety feature will also ensure that potential buyers can find you.
4. Add some colour. Try adding a new mailbox in a statement colour such as red. Wreaths on doors and windows are a great place to add some colourful ribbon.

5. Go green. Your flowers may have lost their blooms, but you can add some life to your home’s exterior with evergreens. Two evergreens on either side of your front door make a welcoming and beautiful entryway. Try adding a Christmas tree to your front porch during the holidays. Line your walkway with evergreen shrubs such as boxwood or juniper and add some white strands of lights to highlight them.
6. Snow removal. Make sure you remain diligent about snow and ice removal. Potential buyers make their first impression within moments of seeing your home. Handrails and stairs should remain unobstructed and user-friendly. This simple safety tip will allow potential buyers to envision an inviting home rather than focus on a treacherous entrance.
7. Create a welcoming entryway. This also helps to make a lasting impression. Add some style to your front porch with some weatherproof furniture. Throw in some cozy pillows, a blanket and some lanterns for lights. Try adding an old sled or skates along with some birch branches to your wintry vignette to convey a cozy and stylish feel.

Getting your home ready for the Holidays. Where to start? A question many of us are asking right about now as we think about the holiday season and getting our homes ready for entertaining friends and family. We have put together a list of a few tips to keep it simple: #1 A good cleaning: Before you haul out the decorations, give your home a really good cleaning from top to bottom. Make sure you clean under furniture and tables. You will then have a fresh canvas on which to build. #2 Theme: Now pick your Christmas or Holiday theme. Whether it is by colour of the ornaments or the style of the decorations, keep the theme consistent throughout your home to create a nice harmony. #3 Pack it away: Next go through your home and select all of the ornaments, pillows and pieces of furniture that can be packed away during the holidays to make room for your Christmas tree and holiday decorations. Keeping both will only add to the chaotic feeling of the holidays. #4 Keep it simple: To simplify Christmas decorating, select a few big pieces to decorate your home in a few key areas. This may include a Christmas tree, a wreath, decorated staircase and a few other smaller pieces. Try not to overdo it – simplicity is in this season. Don’t forget that branches and greenery from a downed tree in a vase make a wonderful addition to your home decorating. The last tip is to decorate early. By doing so, you can save the month of December for socializing and enjoying actual time with family and friends without trying to do everything at once. We often take on too much at one time and by spreading it out, we can ensure that we have enough energy for what really matters.
