As wonderful as pets are, they can pose a challenge when getting ready to sell your home. Take the time to devise a plan for your furry friend as you get ready to sell and things will go much smoother. Here are five tips to keep in mind: • Store the pet bed! Not only do you want to declutter your home before you put your house on the market, but you should also store away any sign of your pet. Potential buyers should not be distracted by these things but should be focussed on trying to visualize their belongings in your space. • Send Fido to the babysitter for the day. On the day of your open house, make sure that your pet is taken to a friend’s house or sent to a pet sitter. Again, potential buyers do not want to have pets running around their feet when they are trying to see your home. • Air out the house. Be sure that your house does not smell of pet odour. To test this, have a neighbour or a friend come over before the showing and ask them. Be careful not to use a strongly - scented air freshener which can turn a potential buyer off or aggravate someone who is allergic to scents. • Throw out the tattered furniture. Furniture that is in disrepair is not appealing to potential buyers and often signals to them that the home itself may require significant repairs. • Watch out for hairballs.
