Trout fishing in the Franklin area is nothing short of fantastic! We have multiple streams and rivers that are ‘Hatchery Supported’, meaning they are stocked with three different kinds of trout (Brook, Rainbow & Brown) throughout the year. Keep in mind, the month of March is CLOSED to all Hatchery Supported trout fishing, and on the first Saturday of April (7th this year) fishing season begins! Be sure to get your NC fishing license before you head out!

Cullasaja River Just outside of Franklin, the Cullasaja River flows alongside of U.S. Highway 64/N.C. Highway 28. This river offers great opportunity for every skill level of trout fishing. From the beginner who wants to fish with bait, to the experienced fly-fisherman, Cullasaja River is a great place to go this April. Another fine quality this river offers is it’s ease of access. You’ll find numerous pull-offs along Hwy 64 that make it easy to start fishing within minutes of stepping out of your vehicle. Again, get your NC fishing license before you get your line wet!

Local Directions: From the intersection of U.S. Hwy 64 East and U.S. 23/441 North in Franklin take Hwy 64 East towards Highlands, NC for approx. 9.4 miles to the intersection of “Gold Mine Road” and U.S. Hwy 64/28 East. Look for the “Gold Mine Baptist Church” sign on the left hand side of Hwy 64. There is a large pull-off spot on the right hand side just past Gold Mine Road and the bridge over Cullasaja River. This is a great place to start.
