The Braveheart 5K Compete in the new “must do” 5K race in Western NC, The Braveheart 5K! Race is scheduled for Saturday, June 16 in downtown Franklin. There will also be a Rob Roy 1-mile fun run for the younger racers! Awards will be given including the award for best dressed “Braveheart” individual. Be among the first to register and receive a free t-shirt. Accompanying the race event this year is the Braveheart Brew Tasting just 100 yards from the finish line! The Brew Tasting features various brewing companies of WNC and some of Franklin’s best brews of tea and coffee! Racers enter free and general admission is $10.00 which includes a collectors “tasting” cup. Whether you’re running or not, bring out the family and enjoy a great day of race watching, brew tasting and live music.

Nantahala National Forest

The Nantahala National Forest was established in 1920 and covers much of the Franklin area in a green blanket of lush forests, rushing rivers and mountain peaks of 5,000 feet plus. The Nantahala National Forest is the largest of North Carolina’s four National Forests, boasting well over 500,000 acres. We highly recommend getting out into the middle of it! You could literally explore for your entire life and not see all of the fantastic natural surroundings our area has to offer! Bartram Trail runs for approx. 62 miles from vista to valley up from Rabun County, Georgia and into the Little Tennessee Valley South of Franklin and Northwest of Highlands. Just three miles from Franklin is the dead end access and parking for approx. 6 vehicles.
