Built between 1939-1940, the farmhouse that now has a new ground up remodel was home to Mr. Carl Welsh. The Welsh’s raised a family in this farmhouse and depended on the land for food. Mr. Welsh built the existing barn. The Welsh family kept a horse, cattle, pigs and chickens. They grew crops which included corn, beans and potatoes. Nantahala National Forest

The Nantahala National Forest was established in 1920 and covers much of the Franklin area in a green blanket of lush forests, rushing rivers and mountain peaks of 5,000 feet plus. The Nantahala National Forest is the largest of North Carolina’s four National Forests, boasting well over 500,000 acres. We highly recommend getting out into the middle of it! You could literally explore for your entire life and not see all of the fantastic natural surroundings our area has to offer! Bartram Trail runs for approx. 62 miles from vista to valley up from Rabun County, Georgia and into the Little Tennessee Valley South of Franklin and Northwest of Highlands. Just three miles from Franklin is the dead end access and parking for approx. 6 vehicles.
