And it’s not just the beauty of the area or the opportunity to sell California or international wines that drew them.
When the Shoppe is Bacchus Wine Shoppe of Hiawassee, the result is the area’s ONLY one-stop destination for ANY celebration in the mountains. When owners Ed and Linda opened the current Shoppe in 2011, they sensed an opportunity to create the area’s preeminent destination for lovers of unique choices and great values in domestic and imported wines, premium microbrew and imported beers, quality cigars, and accessories and gifts for any occasion.
“The climate of the north Georgia mountains is unique in the state, when it comes to supporting many traditional varieties of winemaking grapes,” said Ed. “This is reflected in the number of wineries that are becoming active in the mountains, a number of whose wines we regularly stock at the Shoppe. This connection to place, as experienced in some great local wine choices, is one of the Shoppe’s hallmarks.”
“We loved the area and saw potential in creating a great regional wine retailer, but knew that doing it right demanded something unique,” said Linda. Intrigued, she left her career in telecommunications to develop the Shoppe, including an expansion into a vacant adjoining storefront.
In addition to a great selection of imported and domestic wines for every budget, Bacchus Wine Shoppe sponsors a Wine Club that meets one Saturday evening a month, 11 times a year. Wine Club members receive enhanced discounts on case and certain other purchases, as well as advance access to rare and collectible selections. And the Shoppe holds beer tastings 3 times a year, as well.
