It’s the perfect storm for mosquito development— rain, high humidity and mild temperatures. The National Weather Service in Lake Charles, La., in

fact, said the rainfall at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport in Nederland had a total of 2.8 inches of rainfall last week. Some areas may had received more rainfall than that. Therefore, Patrick Beebe and the Orange County Mosquito Control department are

working through the winter months to fight an unusual infestation of mosquitos. Texas, such as the rest of the United States, is experiencing a very mild winter, Beebe said. “Temperatures are 10 degrees above normal. The warmer temperatures and

moisture along with the high humidity and fog are nearly perfect conditions for mosquitos,” he said. Beebe searched past records and only the winter of 1999 had more service requests for the month of January, 69, versus 68 service calls for January

Much needed rental property may be in the future for Bridge City. At the city council meeting Tuesday, Feb. 7, Thomas A. Neyhart presented the council with a site plan and preliminary inforNEYHART mation for a rent reduced apartment complex. Neyhart proposes to build a complex of duplex, 8-plex and apartments at 1200 Texas Avenue. The rental rates would be below market value by reductions of 30, 50 and 60 percent for a 15 year period. After the 15 year period, the rent would increase to market value. “A single mother needing a three bedroom apartment could rent one of these apartments at a rate based on her income,” Neyhart said. “If the rate on a three bedroom apartment would be $1500 on the market, the rate here may be in the range of $1000. It would be a great advantage to her. We are not a part of Section 8, I am the owner of the property and have total control.” The complex would cover five acres and consist of 80 units. Applicants would have certain criteria to meet, including criminal background checks and credit checks. There will also be 16 apartments for the elderly. Neyhart requested to be placed on the agenda for the next council meeting, Feb. 21. In the interim period he will mail informational packets to the council to allow them time to review the proposal before BRIDGE CITY SEE PAGE 3A

2012. Tidal fluctuations are also a contributing factor. The good news, however, is three mosquito trucks beBEEBEE gan spraying last week to give residents some relief. Typically during the winter months of December through February, field operations cease to perform required federal and state maintenance on equipment. Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads, but they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark. “Courageous,” is a movie showing struggles many fathers face trying to raise children in a Godly way in today’s society. First Baptist Church of Bridge City is airing a free showing of the movie at 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12 in the sanctuary. It is a kick-off for “Courageous Living,” a men’s Bible study class that begins the following week. The class is sponsored by Castnet Ministries, a division of First Baptist. The movie is suitable for adults, teens and older children. At parents’ discretion, they may chose for younger children ages 4 years-fifth grade to watch “Courageous” or join other youngsters in the children’s church room for a viewing of “The Runner from Ravenshead.” In “Courageous,” when tragedy hits home, these men are

left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a new found urgency help these dads draw closer to God ... and to their children? Filled with action-packed police drama, “Courageous” is the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. Viewers will find themselves laughing, crying, and cheering as they are challenged and in-

spired by everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children. Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raising their children in a Godhonoring way? That’s courageous. The movie is open to the public. Participants of the movie and the subsequent Bible study class do not have to be members of First Baptist Church.

The children’s movie will run 5-7p.m. and is offered in place of CSI. Parents are asked to bring a pillow and blanket. Pizza will be served to the kids. “Courageous Living” is a dynamic four-week small group Bible study based on the bold fatherhood and family principles featured in the film Courageous. Members will discover how to lead their families more courageously in four key areas:
