HEAD OF SCHOOL
LETTER TO THE REGIS COMMUNITY Dear Regis Community, Passing the 25th year in Regis’ history brought many of our closest friends and colleagues back to where it all began here on Westview Drive. In the eyes of our founders, I noticed a look of pride in all that we have accomplished. Listening to stories of faith from past graduates taught me a valuable lesson about perseverance. St. Madeleine Sophie Barat would often repeat the phrase, “courage and confidence,” to her sisters when encouraging them to stay true to their calling. Our 25th Anniversary was a moment to pause and realize courage and confidence have been Regis’ beacon of light from the beginning days to the present moment. It is with a heart full of gratitude that I express my appreciation for your support to The Regis School of the Sacred Heart. This Annual Report tells the tale of a Regis community grounded in a deep and enriching faith and a nurturing love. Our relationships with each other over the past 25 years have promoted the love of Christ active in loving parents and dedicated faculty and staff. In the vital moments of supporting boys in their academic growth and spiritual and emotional maturity, we build community with each other. We form friendships that have stood the test of time. Rooted in the love of God we gain the courage and confidence so important to move forward into the future. As our graduating class of 2017 assembled for their commencement ceremony, they held the distinction of being the largest graduating class in Regis’ history. Thirty-three young men graced the stage in the Miller Family Student Life Center to take the important step of advancing on to high school. The boys carried with them the mission of Sacred Heart education. Throughout their days at Regis, they were guided by the five Goals of Faith, Intellect, Service, Community, and Maturity. Although the boys would disperse to a variety of Houston area high schools, they would all carry with them the courage and confidence needed to build community beyond the walls of Regis. As we look forward to the future, our mission will never change and our commitment to boys will remain focused on an active faith in God and a strong intellect. Our expectations for boys are to form them in the attitudes of the heart Jesus expressed in respect, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity. As I concluded my remarks to the class of 2017, I shared with them the words of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne. I share them with you now and thank you for supporting our mission to boys. “We cultivate a very small field for Christ, but we love it, knowing that God does not require great achievements but a heart that holds back nothing for self.”
Courage and Confidence! Sincerely,
Dennis P. Phillips
