HEAD OF SCHOOL LETTER Dear Members of the Regis Community, The 2017-18 school year will not be one we soon forget. The year was marked by the many events that impacted both Houston and the Regis community. We experienced highs and lows, from Hurricane Harvey to the Astros winning the World Series for the first time. Throughout the school year’s events, however, one thing remained evident—Regis exceled at Goal IV and was a community of families, students, faculty and staff who took care of each other, showed genuine concern for each other, and were ready to help each other whenever the need arose. It is in this spirit of Goal IV that I want to express my deep gratitude for your support during such a turbulent year. The outpouring of compassion from our community was an inspiration to everyone, and it is something I hope we can hold on to and draw from in years to come. The Regis Fund and our annual auction and gala, Good Knight Gatsby, exceeded expectations, and our volunteer chairs showed true leadership in engaging the entire community, thereby strengthening our faith in our Sacred Heart mission. One specific quote from St. Rose Philippine Duchesne encapsulates the feeling of the 2017-18 school year, “He will never let the trial surpass the strength He gives you, and at the very moment you think yourself overwhelmed by sorrow, He will lift you up and give you peace.” It is appropriate that this quote from Philippine stood out. Last November marked the beginning of our year-long celebration commemorating the Bicentennial of Philippine’s arrival in the New World. This commemoration brought opportunities for us to work more closely with our sister school, Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, and allowed us to reflect on our shared Sacred Heart mission. Though many of us were ready to put the 2017-18 year behind us, I think all in our community still appreciate the strength God gave us to get through the hard times and the ability to enjoy the victories that came our way. Thank you for being a part of the Regis community and an integral part of the Sacred Heart community worldwide. Sincerely, Dennis P. Phillips Head of School

The Regis School of the Sacred Heart is making a concerted effort to incorporate Active Learning furniture into classrooms at all grade levels (from PK through 8th) in order to provide our students with the best possible boy-centric learning environment. As an all-boys school, Regis recognizes that boys have unique needs such as frequent movement and handson activities. Active Learning furniture promotes increased classroom engagement, increased mastery and conceptual gains. Furniture must have the flexibility to adapt easily from individual work to group work to traditional lecture. Our students excel when they are active participants in their education. 12
