After an initial meeting with the client, the design team opted to combine two previous schemes into one. This ‘hybrid’
7 loveton - spine
scheme would deploy both wooden slats and perforated panels to create a balance of warm and innovative materials throughout the spine and surrounding areas.
location Sparks, Maryland
key plan:
square footage ≈ 23,300 sq. ft.
program Design an innovative transition space that establishes a design language that enhances the performance and aesthetic that can be continued throughout the rest of the campus.
design goals: . Integrate the brand and wayfinding . Maintain the openness and a sense of space . Illustrate ‘high tech’ and innovation . Maximize natural light and views to the exterior . Define the space without walls: semi-transparent key: private offices

new plan
Careful use of BD’s color palette, wood slats, and perforated panels creates an inviting and innovative environment.
The diagrams demonstrate the progression of how the slats and panels interact with one another as well as how the digital band runs throughout the Spine. The solid portions of the diagram represent where the panels are located while the erased portions represent the slats’ location. The blue indicates the digital band.

design goals: . Color and branding for both company and department identity . Flexible interior space . Appropriate amount and distribution of meeting and collaborative spaces - both open and closed . More amenity space
square footage ≈ 14,550 sq. ft.
program Design a flexible work environment that creates a balance of open and closed meeting spaces. The commercial office should reflect company branding and goals.
The isometric shows the varying zones created by both workstation and carpet color. Solid carpet is used in the open meeting areas and huddle rooms while staggered tiles are in private offices and closed meeting areas.

program Within the existing interior space, design three millwork pieces that meet privacy and ADA needs and function as three separate elements; a concierge, an IT help desk, and a coffee bar.
General Notes:
The branding shown here represents the three names and ‘icons’ that identify each station. The chosen primary colors were based on ‘RGB’ and its’ connection to technology and FDA’s goal of innovation

The use of white corian and LEDs creates a unique element within the interior but also compliments the modern existing space.
The final forms of the millwork were a result of program needs and privacy. Because of the confidential information being exchanged at the askITnow desk, the pieces needed to be three separate elements. The recharge station changed so patrons can access the coffee bar on all sides, enabling a smooth flow of traffic.
