track (page 29), we have the perfect fit. You won’t want to miss our 3rd Annual Scarecrow Festival which will be held on September 25 at Vogelei Park. The festival will feature a Scarecrow Contest that is sure to bring out the best in creativity and creepiness with everything from the charmingly classic to the unimaginably ghoulish. Held in conjunction with Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play, the event encourages families to get outside and be active. The Park Board of Commissioners thanks you for your continued support

Mission Statement The mission of the Hoffman Estates Park District is to enhance the quality of life of our residents and guests by providing first class parks, facilities, programs and services through environmentally and fiscally responsible management practices.

Our Customer Service Pledge Our satisfaction guarantee is our promise to provide quality parks, facilities, recreation programs and leisure services that meet the expectation of our customers. If you are not satisfied with any recreational program the Hoffman Estates Park District provides due to the quality of instruction, the child’s inability to adapt emotionally to the class, or the inappropriate skill level for the registered participant, a full refund will be processed. To determine that a class does not meet their satisfaction, participants must attend the first two class sessions, but request a refund and fill out all appropriate paperwork before the third class meeting. Refund request forms are available at the HEPD Community Center and Ice Arena, Willow Recreation Center and Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center. No processing fee will apply to refunds issued under the satisfaction guarantee policy. If you are not satisfied, we would appreciate your comments, suggestions, or ideas for improvement. Please look for our customer comment cards at all district facilities. We appreciate hearing your positive comments, as well as your suggestions for improvement.

Our Community Commitment The Hoffman Estates Park District remains committed to providing the best recreation and leisure services to our community. With our "satisfaction guaranteed" pledge, residents and their guests can be assured that the Hoffman Estates Park District staff will work to not only meet expectations but surpass them.

Lollie Guiney

The governing body of the park district is comprised of seven elected commissioners who represent the recreational needs of their community for four year, unpaid terms. Park commissioners have the power to levy taxes within prescribed limits, establish or change park district policies, sign agreements, award contracts and possess all of the powers similar to those of a board of directors for a public corporation. Park commissioners work as a board to interpret the park and recreation needs of the community, formulate short and long term plans and inform the public of the purpose, worth and extent of the district’s services, parks and facilities. Regular Board Meetings are held monthly at 7:00P at CCIA

Letter from the Hockey Manager There is no more challenging and fulfilling team sport than ice hockey. It is the ultimate team game where every player on a team is of great importance. NOW is the time to learn to play this great game in one of the most progressive and enjoyable introductory programs available. Our program teaches the proper foundation of the 5 major skills (skating, stick handling, passing, shooting and safe checking). While it is a challenging sport to start, with patience and a systematic approach to learning, new players are finding it as their favorite activity in a much shorter time than usual. A well designed curriculum and high ratio of qualified coaches for all ages and levels allows for players to progress at the speed that best suits them. THERE IS NO RUSH. Taking the time to perfect skill execution now will pay off years down the road. Excellent pricing and the flexible on ice plan allows participants to do other activities and miss sessions without a feeling of lagging behind. The pricing and program is designed with the expectation that people will have conflicts. Many starters to hockey come from families that are new to the sport. Our program hopes to have a solution for every common barrier to entry. Below are the most common: I can’t skate — The renowned "Sumo System" and consistent repetition of the key elements give a great foundation that is missing in many long time players. I have other things to do…possible conflicts — At least two ice times a week, a price that expects conflicts and an adjustable curriculum enables missing sessions without being set back. I want to be active and not wait in long line ups — Daily ice plans and stations, keeps players engaged and learning at the suitable level but allows for progression. I don’t have equipment and don’t want to buy until I’m sure I want to play — This program has made a substantial investment in equipment appropriate to start new players. Players can borrow until they want to purchase their own. I’m too young/old — As long as you try to learn and are not a risk to others we have a place for you. If you determine you aren’t ready yet you will be fully refunded. I can’t afford it — Just compare our ice time, coaching ability and prices with any other youth sports. There is no more exhilarating game to play than hockey but we understand that it can be difficult to know how to begin. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have and we look forward to seeing you on the ice! Randy Jordan, Hockey Manager 847–285–5501, rjordan@heparks.org

The great game of hockey is an invigorating and is also Safer than most youth sports as there is no fighting. If you already play hockey, this program will give you extra ice time to work on your skills. We offer the most affordable program in the state of IL and maybe in the country. If you find a better deal than this at any other rink we will match the price. We utilize the proven "SUMO" system of training and sectional training matches players of all ages, experience levels and gender together at the first session. Learn from caring professionals that know how to train new players in a way that is fun and not intimidating. If you don’t have equipment, you can use ours for free — simply return it when you are done. We encourage everyone to come early to the first class as we will need some time to get players equipped. 3–8 years / Starter Program 242469–C M, TH 4:30P–5:30P 5–15 years / 2 Day Program 242469–D W 5:20P–6:20P SA 2:30P–3:30P 5–15 years / 3 Day Program 242469–A TU, F 4:30P–5:30P SA 3:30P–4:30P

The Hoffman Estates Park District preschool program believes that the children learn through experience, imitation and play. Our curriculum focuses on hands on activities and experimentation. Activities such as music, movement, dramatic play, science and open ended art projects help cultivate children’s imaginations and give them confidence to express themselves, while group activities encourage socialization and teach important lessons in sharing and being part of a community. Outdoor or gym time is scheduled daily to help children develop large motor skills. Table top activities like puzzles, cutting and painting help youngsters develop their fine motor skills, while also fostering imagination and cognitive development. Plus, each classroom boasts a computer and digital camera, allowing teachers to integrate technology into the curriculum. Our teachers combine our diverse curriculum with a nurturing environment and a healthy balance of playtime to encourage students’ physical, emotional, social and creative development. And through encouragement, understanding and respect, they help provide a positive atmosphere for learning. Our program is state licensed and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, so you can be confident that your child will benefit from superior educators, classroom equipment and opportunities to help build a solid foundation for the future.

Friends of HE Parks Foundation The Friends of HE Parks Foundation is made up of community volunteers who work together to raise money so that more residents can participate and enjoy recreational opportunities, regardless of social, physical or economic circumstances and limitations. Since its creation in 1998, the Foundation through its scholarship fund, has donated tens of thousands of dollars to benefit hundreds of local youth and their families, enabling them to play sports, dance, skate and swim in programs they once could not afford. The Foundation strives to promote events that will raise money to help disadvantaged families of our community be able to enjoy park district programs and facilities.

NWSRA exists to provide outstanding opportunities through recreation for people with disabilities. The agency’s team of full time Therapeutic Recreation professionals and trained part time staff offer safe, fun and quality year round opportunities to individuals with disabilities of all ages and ability levels. Participants benefit through increased self esteem, physical and social skills development, and improved fitness and health while experiencing new challenges, making friends and having fun! After school, evening and weekend activities feature cooperative sports and games, individuals and team sports, arts and crafts, fitness, cooking, creative arts and drama. Camps, trips, and special events are also available at various times throughout the year. Inclusion assistance is provided by NWSRA to those individuals who wish to participate in their home park district program. When registering, the parent of an individual with a disability should inform the park district if special accommodation is needed so that the individual can successfully participate in the program. The park district staff will then contact NWSRA for assistance with the accommodation.
