Mission Statement

It’s time to stop thinking about snow and start thinking about fun in the sun! The Hoffman Estates Park District offers everything you need to fill your summer, from swimming and camps to golf and baseball, we have something for everyone. Splash, play and relax this summer at Seascape Family Aquatic Center, opening June 6th. Be sure to purchase your season pass now so you can enjoy the water slides and playground, lap pool, zero-depth entry pool and sand volleyball courts all summer long! Check out page 5 for all the details. And be sure to mark your calendar for the free outdoor movie nights that we will be offering all summer long (page10.) Who can resist a movie in the park on a huge inflatable screen? Our annual Party in the Park event is back once again on August 8th promising fun for the whole family. Be sure to join us for a fun filled day of games, contests, entertainment, food, crafts and so much more. Our Customer Service Pledge Our satisfaction guarantee is our promise to provide quality parks, facilities, recreation programs, and leisure services that meet the expectation of our customers. If you are not satisfied with any recreational program the Hoffman Estates Park District provides due to the quality of instruction, the child’s inability to adapt emotionally to the class, or the inappropriate skill level for the registered participant, a full refund will be processed. To determine that a class does not meet their satisfaction, participants must attend the first two class sessions, but request a refund and fill out all appropriate paperwork before the third class meeting. Refund request forms are available at the HEPD Community Center and Ice Arena, Willow Recreation Center, and Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center. No processing fee will apply to refunds issued under the satisfaction guarantee policy. If you are not satisfied, we would appreciate your comments, suggestions, or ideas for improvement. Please look for our customer comment cards at all district facilities. We appreciate hearing your positive comments, as well as your suggestions for improvement.

The governing body of the park district is comprised of seven elected commissioners who represent the recreational needs of their community for four- year, unpaid terms. Park commissioners have the power to levy taxes within prescribed limits, establish or change park district policies, sign agreements, award contracts, and possess all of the powers similar to those of a board of directors for a public corporation. Park commissioners work as a board to interpret the park and recreation needs of the community, formulate short and long term plans, and inform the public of the purpose, worth, and extent of the district’s services, parks, and facilities. We offer programs and special events for all ages and ability levels in figure skating and ice hockey, as well as numerous athletic and recreational programs. Willow is open daily and features three regulation size racquetball courts, volleyball, wallyball, open basketball, a fitness center, speciality fitness classes, gymnasium, NAEYC accredited preschool, and before and after school care program. This ½ acre dog park offers dogs a dedicated open space to play while you sit and relax. The park is fully enclosed by a 5 foot high fence and accessed by code through a double gate. Space is limited to a first come first serve basis. Owners must provide certification of their dog’s current vaccinations of rabies, distemper, bordatella and fecal examination.

Willow Skate Park is the best place in Hoffman Estates for inline skating and skateboarding. Our 11,000 square foot park features platforms and ramps. This is an unsupervised park and helmets are mandatory.

June 12th Juggling Funny Stories Chris Fascione You’ll be laughing out loud as nationally known family entertainer Chris Fascione brings children’s stories to life with his high spirited and innovative performances. Full of energy, humor and imagination, Chris creates colorful characters through his unique combination of acting, storytelling, comedy and juggling. A Storytelling World Award winner, Chris brings out the kid in everyone, as adults and children alike have fun participating in the show. June 26th Macaroni Soup! Active Music for Kids! Carole Peterson & Alvin McGovern Carole Peterson has been providing musical entertainment and education for children since 1989 with Macaroni Soup! Carole’s CDs have won the Parents’ Choice, NAPPA, I-Parenting Media and Children’s Music Web Awards. She is accompanied by Alvin McGovern who has been playing guitar for over 40 years, making music and silliness with Macaroni Soup! since 2000. Alvin has been an integral part of all five of Carole’s 5 award winning CDs. July 10th Three Little Pigs Round Lake Park District Neighborhood Players When the wolf is seeking pork, the bacon starts shakin’ and makin’ a sturdy, tooth proof home. This wacky theatre rendition will have audiences, small and tall, rooting for the little prodders as they scramble to save their skins. July 24th Magic by Randy Come see why Kris Kridell from WBBM news radio said "Magic by Randy, one of the best entertainers in Chicago!" His unique style of magic comedy captures audiences’ attention and keeps them laughing! Children enjoy all of the tricks and the adults enjoy his sense of humor. August 7th Bill Hooper Through humor and active participation, Mr. Hooper and audience create a warm world of learning and laughter. Bill Hooper has been performing original interactive children’s music in the Chicago area for over twenty years. Accompanied by guitar, Mr. Hooper performs original songs about music and motion, nature and feelings, which resonate with young children and their families.

Fishing Derby Saturday, June 6th

Grab your fishing gear and come to South Ridge Lake for the Community Fishing Derby. Scores of tagged fish worth $25–$100 sponsored by local businesses will be put into the lake for you to snag. There is even a fish worth a $1,000 gift card at Cabela’s. There will be door prizes, goody bags and t-shirt give aways. Food vendors will be on hand so you don’t have to pack a lunch! There are no age or residency restrictions and no fishing license is necessary. Just be sure that you and all the anglers in your group are registered before they start fishing. August 21st The Rope Warrior In this high impact, high energy stage show, David Fisher — AKA The Rope Warrior performs spectacular routines choreographed to a kaleidoscope of music. Trick rope techniques delivered with power, finesse and breakneck speed are enhanced with vibrant music. Indoor Swimming Lessons Swim Parent Tot ½–3 years / PSS&WC With the help of their parents, tots become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim. Children will enjoy songs and games while becoming familiar in the water. Parents will learn techniques to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner.

Swim Level 1 4–9 years / PSS&WC This class will help students become more comfortable in the water and teach them how to enjoy the water safely. Students will learn elementary skills including; water entry, front and back floats and begin to learn the arm and leg action of swimming. 230837–A

Swim Level 3 5–12 years / PSS&WC Level 3 students will build on their previous aquatic skills with guided practice. Students will learn how to coordinate the front crawl and back crawl and begin to learn elements of the butterfly and treading water.

Swim Level 6 7–14 years / PSS&WC Students will refine strokes so they can swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Students who complete Level 6 should be able to transition easily to a swim team.

Outdoor Swimming Lessons Swim Parent / Tot ½–3 years / Seascape With the help of their parents, tots become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim. Children will enjoy songs and games while becoming familiar in the water. Parents will learn techniques to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner.

Opening Day Duck Race Join us on Saturday, June 6th at 11:15A sharp for our first ever Opening Day Duck Race. Community members will have the opportunity to compete in this exciting race by adopting a duck prior to June 6th. Visual Arts and Music Young Rembrandts CCIA Come explore the world of art with Young Rembrandts. Students learn and practice important drawing skills using a variety of dry media, such as pencils, crayons, colored pencils and markers. Willow Racquet Club Members can reserve court times on our three regulation size racquetball courts for racquetball or wallyball. In addition to court reservation privileges, Willow Racquet Club members enjoy use of the facility locker rooms. $48 Resident / $36 with Fitness Membership

Permanent Court Time Racquetball and wallyball courts may be reserved by Willow Racquet Club member for a specific amount of time at the appropriate hourly rate on a prepaid basis only. There is a 10 week pre paid minimum. Open Racquetball Members may reserve court time one week in advance. Nonmembers may reserve court time 24 hours in advance. Call the Willow front desk at 847–285–5440. Open Wallyball Any Willow Racquet Club member wishing to play wallyball only needs to pay the appropriate court fee. Camp Bus Service 6–14 years / WRC This year we’re making it easier for north-siders to attend Teen, Arts and Sports Camps. Our camp bus service picks campers up at Willow, each morning promptly at 8:20A. After camp, the bus returns all campers to Willow at 4:00P. Safety Town Vogelei This safety education program introduces children to everything from pedestrian, car and bike safety to fire and home safety. Children can bring their own bikes and helmets or ride our Big Wheels through simulated streets to learn the value of street safety. Under guidance, youngsters practice safety related solutions in a variety of hands on situations. Visits from police officers and other safety professionals aid in the learning process. Participants should bring a water bottle filled with water each day.

Camp Leadership 13–15 years Teen leaders will be working with the younger children in our summer camps, planning, leading activities and craft projects. No previous camp experience necessary. Hawks Baseball Camp Grades 1–8 / HE HS Baseball Field This two week camp will instruct players on the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, pitching and fielding techniques. Wolf Pack Hockey Camp 4–14 years / CCIA Designed specifically for hockey newcomers, house and new travel players, this camp offers professional instruction to ensure a fun, healthy experience. Each day includes 1½ hours of organized ice time where players work on stick handling, shooting, passing, safe checking, afternoon scrimmage games, daily off ice plyometric and stick handling practice. This camp is designed for Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam players. Campers will be divided into age groups each day. Full hockey equipment is required.

Tennis Plus Camp 7–12 years / PSS&WC This camp is a smash hit with tennis players of all skill levels. Young players get on court tennis instruction and match experience under the supervision of Prairie Stone tennis professionals. Campers also enjoy energetic off court activities like swimming, wall climbing, volleyball, basketball. The student instructor ratio is 8:1. There will be no camp 7/3. Full Day

Chicago Storm Summer Camp Cannon Crossings Fields This camp offers the unique opportunity for children to work with Chicago Storm players and coaches, including Head Coach Steve Morris. Preschool 2009–2010 Fostering a Love of Learning Our curriculum focuses on hands on activities and experimentation. Activities such as music, movement, dramatic play, science, and open ended art projects help cultivate children’s imaginations and give them confidence to express themselves. Group activities encourage socialization and teach important lessons in sharing and being part of a community. Daily outdoor or gym time helps children develop their large motor skills. Fine motor skills are developed through tabletop activities like puzzles cutting and painting, which also fosters the imagination and cognitive development. In addition, each classroom boasts a computer and digital camera, allowing teachers to integrate technology into the curriculum. Our teachers combine our diverse curriculum with a nurturing environment and a healthy balance of playtime to encourage student’s physical, emotional, and social and creative development. And through encouragement, understanding and respect, they help provide a positive atmosphere for learning. Our program is state licensed and nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, so you can be confident that your child will benefit from superior educators, classroom equipment, and opportunities to help build a solid foundation for his or her future.

Threeschool This is a program we designed just for children who missed the traditional September 1 preschool deadline. Taught by a preschool teacher in a preschool classroom setting, this class engages children through a variety of activities such as songs, stories, free play at learning centers, crafts, outside fun and gym time. Pull ups are okay to begin with, but children should be on their way to taking care of their own toilet needs. Teachers will not be responsible for changing pull ups. Children should bring a light snack each day. 15 minutes will be added to the length of class beginning in January 2010 to prepare the students for a longer preschool day. Class meets the entire school year. Children turning 3 during the school year may register within three months of turning 3 years old while space is available; fees will be prorated. CCIA

Total Fitness Workout 14+ years / WRC This workout is a cardiovascular workout that combines the energy of high and low impact aerobics, the intensity of interval training and the fat burning benefits of step aerobics. Exercises and steps can be modified to accommodate all fitness levels. Pilates Individualized Equipment Training Transform your body, while developing strength, flexibility and balance. STAR Travel Camps

2009–2010 School Year The Hoffman Estates Park District’s STAR before and after school program is student development through academics and recreation. The STAR program will provide your child a safe environment of fun and excitement. Activities include weekly themes arts and crafts, gym games, outdoor play and homework time. A light snack will be offered daily. Before care is from 7:00A until the start of school and After care is from the end of school until 6:00P. Three and five day availability.

Six County Senior Olympics 2009 Park Ridge Senior Center

Providing an opportunity for older adults to compete with their peers in an atmosphere of friendship, support and recognition. This event is open to seniors of all ability levels. Northwest Special Recreation Association — Providing Recreation Services to Individuals with Special Needs The Hoffman Estates Park District is a member of a cooperative agreement among 16 park districts which form the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA). NWSRA exists to provide outstanding opportunities through recreation for people with disabilities. The agency’s team of full time Therapeutic Recreation professionals and trained part-time staff offer safe, fun and quality year-round opportunities to individuals with disabilities of all ages and ability levels. Participants benefit through increased self esteem, physical and social skills development, and improved fitness and health while experiencing new challenges, making friends, and having fun! After school, evening and weekend activities feature cooperative sports and games, individuals and team sports, arts and crafts, fitness, cooking, creative arts, and drama. Camps, trips, and special events are also available at various times throughout the year. Inclusion assistance is provided by NWSRA to those individuals who wish to participate in their home park district program. When registering, the parent of an individual with a disability should inform the park district if special accommodation is needed so that the individual can successfully participate in the program. The park district staff will then contact NWSRA for assistance with the accommodation. Friends of HE Parks Foundation The Friends of HE Parks Foundation is made up of community volunteers who work together to raise money so that more residents can participate and enjoy recreational and leisure opportunities, regardless of social, physical or economic circumstances and limitations. Since its creation in 2002, the Foundation through its scholarship fund, has donated tens of thousands of dollars to benefit hundreds of local youth and their families, enabling them to play sports, dance, skate and swim in programs they once could not afford. Recently, the Foundation purchased a jumbo movie screen and donated it to the park district to enable the free movie nights presented for all members of our community. The Foundation strives to promote events that will raise money to help disadvantaged families of our community be able to enjoy park district programs and facilities. A Word From the Trustees We hope to see you on July 14th for our annual Communi-Tee golf outing at Poplar Creek Country Club. This year’s outing begins at 10:00A with a driving range warm up led by Poplar Creek Country Club’s PGA staff. The tournament kicks off at 11:00A with a shotgun start. There will be a light lunch and beverages provided on the course followed by a cocktail hour and dinner buffet. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the low gross score. This year’s event will once again include the opportunity for golfers to participate in a “Million Dollar Shoot-Out Competition.” During the event, one golfer will qualify for the opportunity to shoot for One Million Dollars. The qualifier will shoot for this grand prize at the conclusion of the event. There is a $125 fee per golfer, which includes golf, cocktail hour and all meals. Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the Hoffman Estates Park District identified programs / activities, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with said programs / activities (including transportation services / vehicle operation, when provided.)

The Hoffman Estates Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Hoffman Estates Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants’ safety. However, participants and parents / guardians of minors registering for this program / activity must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

Due to the expanded number of classes and class sizes, registration will now be offered on a first come, first served basis for the majority of our classes. Preschool and S.T.A.R programs will continue to be offered through a lottery registration system. To register, fill out the form completely. Be sure to include household name and address, and program name, number, and section. Read the waiver. Registration forms must be signed to enable us to process the registration. A legal guardian must sign for individuals younger than 18 years. Please register early. Class status is determined one week prior to the start of the program. If classes do not meet the minimum registration requirements by this one-week mark, they will be cancelled.

Refund Policy

New Program Ideas If you have some new program ideas, we’d like to hear from you. Call the park district at 847–885–7500 if you would like to teach a class or seminar or if you simply have a new class you’d like to see offered.

In order to receive a refund, our office must receive your refund request at least 24 administrative hours in advance of the program start date. A $5 processing fee will be required for any refund requested prior to class start. After the start of class, no refunds will be issued, except as outlined in the Satisfaction Guarantee Policy. A household credit will be issued for any refund under $5. Preschool, camps, league deposits, trip, or membership payments are considered separately. Please call 847–885–7500 for specific policies.
