Chantel Atkins (CEO/Owner) I started The Rhythmic Lounge in December 2010. At its start, it was a fairly simple website with the purpose of giving people a place to promote their talents and network. I had no idea that less than two years later it would transform into something much bigger. The website then underwent a complete revamp in July 2011, with a brand new look and the addition of many new features, including the creation of The Rhythmic Lounge Radio. Following suit, the radio started out as merely a 24/7 stream of hand-picked music submitted by talented musicians from the website but is now an integral part of the company. Listeners from all over the world tune in regularly to hear the wide variety of music, as well as the educational, musical and talk-radio shows that we now host.

The radio’s success has only made me realize The Rhythmic Lounge could take me in new directions everyday rather than the other way around, which is why a digital magazine seemed like the next step. I’m incredibly proud to present to you hardworking artists and entertainers in this magazine and on the site, so enjoy!

Teri Toronto, Canada Teri is a Singer/Songwriter originally from Kingston Jamaica, currently living in Toronto, Canada. She has also spent a significant period of time living in the UK and holds British Citizenship. She is not new to the industry having worked with a number of heavyweights in the reggae industry, and already has a stable catalogue of tracks in her repertoire. !Teri describes singing as an escape mechanism - a way to escape anything and everything, from the most delightful moments to those that she was often too shy to deal with. "Music was, and still is, the answer to everything for me" she articulates. Music, she said, defines her in every way; to the point that without music she feels lost inside.

Teri's latest single - Breathless Kiss - produced by Kemar 'Flava' McGregor was released Worldwide on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify in 11th November 2014. As an eclectic artist, she enjoys the creative freedom that this pop-reggae track represents - Caribbean rhythms, jazzy inflections and rave-vibrancy.

"I love the concept of pop-reggae, it leaves so much to the imagination," says Teri. "That fusion of musical styles - it gives me an exciting feeling, because it means I can expand outside of the norm."

Breathless Kiss is currently garnering a lot of attention worldwide, particularly in Europe and Japan, where she hopes to perform later in 2015.

Michael Karr

Musician Michael Karr is one of those rare instances of humble musical genius. I spoke with Michael over the phone recently to talk with him about what inspired the music from his latest album entitled “Think It Over” on which he is the sole instrumentalist on all the cuts with one exception, the vocals sung by the late Izzy Rivera. A very warm and soft-spoken individual, it is through his music that Michael finds his best expression I believe. Inspired by his father a multi-instrumental musician who took him everywhere as a child and exposing him to various musical settings, he began his voyage through music at the tender age of eleven on his first recording dates with the Pittsburg Youth Symphony as a soloist. His ability and talent recognized by Trombonist Randy Purcell earned him a scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University. After completing his education and receiving two Bachelors degrees by age 19, he began playing and touring nationally and in Europe.

Playing with a veritable who’s who of musical groups and artist, a list of which would go beyond the scope of this article, suffice it to say he has earned the respect of many great and talented musicians over the course of his career. Equally talented on both piano and trumpet, he is also an arranger, lyricist, composer, engineer, and producer. Having been signed to various labels during his career and producing a top ten hit on Billboards R&B charts with Stanley Fields cover of “You, Me & He” on the 3C label. It is the women in his life that have most inspired him, as is the case with his daughter after whom the track “Sarina (Sarah)” on his latest album is named. A resident musician in many notable jazz venues throughout New York City, and almost every club east of the Rockies – from after hours clubs, stadiums, and two Presidential Inaugural Balls. Lynx Unruly Brooklyn, New York The island of Jamaica has produced some of the most talented and versatile performers music has ever known. BobbleHead Media Group: BobbleHead Media group was created 6 years ago. Music was something I always did as a kid as a Dj and with my passion of wanting to do more created a music & media group to reach or connect with people more.

TRL: What is the main goal/mission of the company?

BHMG: The mission/goal of our company is to put out the best products we possibly can weather it's from it's our artist or it's the news we will be reporting. But we plan to bring something a little different to the table a little spice so to speak.

TRL: What are some of the services that Bobblehead Media Group provides to its clients?

BHMG: We provided our clients with marketing & promotions, management, guidance, publishing to authors and musicians and so forth we also provide a family orientated environment to succeed in.

TRL: Are there any plans to make any changes or do any expanding within the company?

BHMG: From this year on we will be expanding the company from the music to the media side of the business while still growing our music. We still understand our business is in the beginning but want to reach more people and I also plan on writing and dabbling in some directing starting with videos. HP: My name is HP stands for (Headed to the top) rapper from Flatbush Brooklyn that's my safe zone.

I'm young hungry and most important talented.

TRL: Describe your creative process when you are writing your lyrics!

HP: I like to listen to the music and zone out sometime it's the beat and sometimes it's how I'm feeling.

TRL: Who are your musical influences?

HP: I listen to a lot of music young people listen to but I listen to a lot of Chicago rappers you'll hear some of that in my music.

TRL: What advice do you have for those trying to build a successful career in the entertainment business?

HP: Stay consistent and motivated! There are a lot of challenges that come with trying to be successful.

Las Vegas, Nevada Joseph A. Hurry Sr. was raised in Los Angeles, California and received his A.A. Degree in Mass Communications from Merced College. After serving five years in the United States Air Force where he boxed after Vietnam in NATO as the base welterweight champion for two years, he never lost a fight. He became a radio personality at KLBS Radio Station in Los Banos California. He went on to pursue a career as a broadcast engineer and was commissioned by the F.C.C. with General Radio Telephone License.

He moved back to Los Angeles, California where he worked as an engineer, air personality and instructor at the National Radio Service. He discovered he had another talent for Directing and Producing live events. He produced at Occidental College in Los Angeles the PATRICE RUSHEN Concert. He wrote and directed numerous music videos and documentaries.

He returned to college to study Radio, Television Broadcasting and Film at California State University of Los Angeles, earning his B.A. Degree. He was hired by THE NATIONAL BLACK TALENT DIRECTORY as Director of Sales; he was responsible for the financial support generated to create the book. It was herald as a major accomplishment by the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER and the DAILY VARIETY newspapers in Hollywood. His past experience as a producer, writer, and director provided a base for him to pull together entertainment industry professionals and companies for the first ever BLACK TALENT INDUSTRY EXPO '88 in Los Angeles and was awarded a commendation from the Mayor Tom Bradley.

He helped form the National Black Talent Industry Enterprises and was made VicePresident of Marketing and Special Projects. His past experience as a producer and director provided the expertise to produce the ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY EXPO in Chicago, a first of its kind at RAH PRODUCER’S CENTER .

Mr. Hurry has formed his own entertainment concerns: As the CEO of BLACK STAR FILM, LTD. Mr. Hurry states, “I have also published two books in the hopes of producing them for feature films. They are, EXTREME MISSION: KONDA MASON (sci-fi) and MY LIL' HOMIES (urban drama). Petey Pyramid Kansas City, Missouri Essince (TRL): How long have you been rhyming? How did you get into music?

Petey Pyramid: I've been rhyming since I was about 8. I really got serious with music around age 16 and that’s when I decided that music was really what u wanted to do but it has always been my number one passion. I wouldn't say that I ever "got into music", I think music was already placed inside me as apart of me and it had no other choice but to come out.

Essince (TRL): Talk to me about the scene in KC and MO. Do you think it has a particular sound or style?

PP: Kansas City is a very small market, and that's why I moved to Atlanta to pursue music because there is just so much more opportunity. Kansas City does have a sound. It's more of a mosh pit of sounds from the East and the West, not so much south. But of course the underground hip-hop scene does have particular sound but I'm not too fond of it.

Essince (TRL): How important is traveling to different cities? Or can an artist become successful only staying in his/her city?

PP: It is extremely important to travel i different cities. It does your fans as well as you as artist an injustice to only stay in your city. It's always important to try to conquer your hometown and have them back you but in order to reach the levels that I'm trying to reach as artist, traveling to different cities is a must. It builds awareness as well as keeps you working and encouraged. Kansas City has the tendency to accept an artist after everyone else around them has accepted you. The vibe in Atlanta is completely different. They actually support Atlanta artist in Atlanta and that's why so many artist are being broke out of Atlanta. Maybe my city will catch on soon but until then I'm on the go!

Essince (TRL): How did come up with your name? What is the significance of the pyramid?

PP: Funny you ask. Most people just assume the illuminati and I've been questioned on that numerous times. I think it's funny plus controversy doesn't hurt. However the Pyramid signifies mystery, as well as royalty. Kings and Queens were buried with there wealth in hopes to take them with them in the after life. So the pyramid represents new life as well not just death. As an artist I may not always be understood just like no one knows how the pyramids were built but they appreciate them. Really I just intend to be monumental in this game and what's more monumental than the pyramids...

Essince (TRL): What are your goals with your music?

PP: Longevity. I'm a songwriter. I'm an artist first but after the success comes and I’m able to provide for my family and really live well, I really want to write for artists, singers and rappers. That's where the check is anyways. Basically my main goal is getting the world to see I'm great. Then after that live out my greatness. Whatever that brings, I'm ready for it.

THA HOT$HOT Philipsburg, St. Maarten Philipsburg, St. Maarten Raised on the beautiful, yet small island of St. Maarten, Shane "Tha Hot$hot" Kelly became influenced by Hip-Hop music at a young age. Having always been known as the quiet child, he proved his ability to openly broadcast his opinions by dedicating his time to writing a few rhymes every day after coming home from school, as a way to release his tension and thoughts about a variety of topics. Rapidly, Shane started to become increasingly involved with his music and delivering messages in a positive way. Not only did this up and coming rapper develop a new form of confidence, but he made it very clear that he would work his hardest to achieve his dream. "I'm one of the most confident and determined people that you'll ever meet." Shane says. "I use the positive aspects of my life as motivation to get what I want and need, in order to succeed in the things that I want to accomplish in life."

Shane also discovered a new tool for motivation, following the untimely death of his childhood friend, Gerald "Young G" James, who used to chant raps with him as a child. Knowing how much Gerald supported him, Tha Hot$hot continued to push harder for his dream, and used his friends passing as a source of encouragement to make him, and many other loved ones proud. He made it his goal to create powerful lyrics that have the ability to encourage an audience regardless of their age, race or gender.

Tha Hot$hot is currently under the independent record label D.Y. Entertainment, and released his second mixtape "Swagger 101 Vol. 2: From Local to Global," on May 18th 2012, which was hosted by Toronto's own DJ Wikked.

This same mixtape made Shane the first St. Maartener to gain over 50,000 views and 4,000 downloads on the popular Hip-Hop website Datpiff. Furthermore, he was awarded "Best Male Rap Artist" at the 2012 SXM Music Awards and his first music video for his hit single “Reppin’ It,” made its debut at the #1 spot on TEMPO’s Cross Caribbean Countdown for 6 weeks straight, and then remained on the countdown for 6 months total, marking Shane as the first artist out of St. Maarten to do so.

In addition to these accomplishments, Tha Hot$hot’s website “thahotshot.com” went public as well, enabling him to spread his music on a more international platform. Shane continues to dedicate himself to releasing high quality music in every aspect, and is expected to release new original music and more projects to continue adding to his resume, as well as remaining in the spotlight.

On September 17th 2013, Tha Hot$hot released his first official single “Tropical Limelight” featuring his label-mate $tekaly Tha Singer. The single was released for purchase on iTunes and Amazon, along with a variety of other digital stores. His label/management D.Y. Entertainment then teamed up with Pantason Music & Subkonshus Music out of Jamaica; and on June 10th 2014 released the "Tropical Limelight Remix" which again featured $tekaly Tha Singer & added the Dancehall Star Konshens! Tha Hot$hot became the first St. Maarten Artist to feature the Dancehall Star, and since then went on to be on rotation on many different radio stations throughout the Caribbean and the rest of the world.

Most recently, D.Y. Ent. /I From Here Music & Southern Smoke presented Tha Hot$hot's brand new mixtape project "Anticipation For Greatness" hosted by the World Famous Dj Smallz. The mixtape was released on Livemixtapes.com & datpiff.com on August 12th 2014, as he became the first Hip Hop Artist out of St. Maarten to work with Dj Smallz which is currently the #1 Hip Hop mixtape Dj in the word!

Album Reviews Michael Karr- BLUDOLPH by Patrick Ross

The very prolific Michael Karr comes with yet another offering designed for the festive Christmas holiday season entitled “Bludolph,” which brings a bit of swinging bluesy feel to some all time Christmas classics. The title cut takes on a new and completely unexpected arrangement of the classic “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” that is unique in that it has no recognizable character with the original melody. “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” takes on a swinging persona as does “I’ll be home for Christmas.” “Let It Snow,” “Winter Wonderland” espouse feelings of candle lit, fireplace hearths, and rum toddies on a romantic Christmas Eve evening. These picturesque jazzy takes on these classics evoke feelings that are reminiscent of the spirit of the season that we have all had at one time or another in our childhood memories into our adult lives. On the cut “Auld Lang Syne” Karr takes more of a cool jazz tinged excursion on this extended version of the classic New Years Eve anthem. Rounding out the set with “Deck The Halls” this becomes more of and upbeat swing extravaganza which caps off this offering of classic seasonal tunes. While over the years there have been many definitive takes on these tunes, Michael Karr brings his own stylization to the musical palette for the holiday season, with that being said this albums a nice alternative instrumental package that can be gifted to Jazz music lovers for the season of giving.
