Greetings from
ART OF PERFORMANCE 2023/24 SEASON HISTORIC ASOLO THEATER SARASOTA, FLORIDA
THE RINGLING’S ART OF PERFORMANCE at the Historic Asolo Theater (the HAT) delivers broad access to provocative and timely performing arts that reflect a wide range of experiences, disciplines, and relevant cultural expressions. The series embodies The Ringling’s values of inclusion, inspiration, and excellence through performance programs that elevate community partnerships, social impact, and the plural exchange of ideas in tandem with visiting artists. The program supports Florida-based, national, and international performance makers in developmental residencies and creative research in our theater facilities. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The Ringling respectfully acknowledges that we are located on the traditional Homelands and the ancestral territories of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, as well as the ancient tribes of the Calusa, Uzita, and Tocobaga. We also acknowledge the local freedomseeking community called Angola, and the people later known as Black Seminoles. We honor the resiliency of Indigenous communities, and we extend our gratitude as we live and work on their Homelands. We pay our respect to the Elders, both past and present, who have stewarded these lands and waters through generations since time immemorial.
u o y h s i . . . e r We w e h were don't you?

Experience cante jondo and Spanish classical and Flamenco guitar with two celebrated innovators. Israel rejuvenates the cante of yesteryear, and Diego sounds classical and modern at the same time. Positioned between the ancient and the contemporary worlds, their performance is a timely honoring of the natural evolution of Flamenco.

Post Card Les Francophonies Congo Jazz Band Nov 16, 11:00 AM Nov 17 & 18, 7:30 PM
A tragic century of the Congo is brought to life through razor-sharp text and interludes of Congolese music as a poetic reckoning. Kouyate’s brilliant Leopold II, Patrice Lumumba, and other historical figures tumble through time, jam with the band, and deliver moments of grave seriousness and comedic irony to an upbeat sound. Performed in French with English supertitles.

Florida Woman
Post Card Rosie Herrera + Leah Verier-Dunn Florida Woman
Florida Woman is a dance theater elegy to the stereotypes and myths of Floridian life. Juxtaposing the lawlessness and freedom evoked by the “Florida Man” internet meme with the prevalence of restrictive laws on women's bodies, the performance interrogates the aesthetic beauty of Florida as a bastion for all things wild and hopeful.

The performers’ athletic bodies move fluently from wrestling to dance, acrobatics to physical comedy, in an irresistible distortion of the expectations of manhood. A funny, raw, playful hour interspersed with competitiveness and camaraderie, as well as seduction and sabotage.

La Famille GoldenCrust is a kitsch, fun, and humorous outdoor performance spectacle, trailer-park style! In their magnificent RV, the tacky and raucous duo presents a comedy and circus show worthy of the most prestigious campgrounds and shopping malls in Florida. They have the heart and ambition—the only thing that's missing are the pyrotechnic effects, technicians, and entire cast of dancers.
