Jana Kramer, Newsboys Join Rogersville Celebration
Country artist, Jana Kramer
ROGERSVILLE — The stage is set for Independence Day 2013 in Rogersville as the 4th of July Celebration Committee announced today there will be two headline performers at this year’s event, on Sat., July 6. Up-and-coming country artist Jana Kramer and award-winning contemporary Christian artists the Newsboys are scheduled to perform in free concerts at Rogersville City Park. Kramer, who is known for her Billboard hit “Why Ya Wanna,” and the single “Whiskey,” can also been seen on the small screen in shows such as “One Tree Hill,” where she plays the role of “Alex Dupre” and “90210.” “I love acting, but my heart and soul is in singing,” Kramer said. “I’ve been terrified to pursue this dream because it’s so personal to me. If someone tells me they don’t like my voice, it’s a lot harder of a hit to take. This is what I’ve always
wanted to do.” Though a Michigan native, Jana is no stranger to the rich history of country music, crediting one of her favorite memories to baking cookies with her grandmother

Up-and-coming country artist Jana Kramer and award-winning contemporary Christian artists the Newsboys are scheduled to perform in free concerts at Rogersville City Park. while listening to Patsy Cline. Those moments are one of the many reasons why she said she hopes to share her music with others. To date, she has sold more than 150,000 digital singles in the first six
months. Just nominated for ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year, Kramer will be coming off of a national tour with Blake Shelton this summer to entertain the crowd at the 2013 Rogersville 4th of July Celebration as her latest single continues to climb the charts. “Country music is in my blood. I love country music because it tells a story and I have a lot of stories to tell,” she added. Co-headlining this year’s lineup, the Grammy- and Dove-nominated Newsboys will also bring their rock-driven Christian music to the stage as part of their “God’s Not Dead” tour, also the title of their latest album. Soulful front man Michael Tait and his steadfast band mates Jeff Frankenstein (keys), Duncan Phillips (drums), and Jody

Davis (guitars) work to enliven today’s most embraced modern worship anthems, putting their signature touch on songs that have recently topped the Church Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) chart. Throughout the band’s award-winning history, expressions of worship are evident in Newsboys’ track listings. Sometimes they’ve even dominated an entire gold-selling album as with “Adoration” nearly a decade ago. When Tait joined the group in 2009, he and the other three ‘boys—the true heart of the quartet, having played together since 1994—wanted fans to know that worship emphasis would never change. In fact, plans for the “God’s Not Dead” album and the current tour began before “Born Again” was released. Dr. Blaine Jones, chairman of the 4th of July Celebration, said the decision to move the concerts to Sat., July 6, was a decision made on for economic, as well as scheduling reasons, and to provide a better opportunity for those who might not be able to attend on Thurs., July 4, the opportunity to do so. “It is getting harder and harder to negotiate with
the artists for weekday, holiday events,” Jones said. “The committee looked at this and also other economic factors in making the decision to move the celebration. Most of us are traditionalists and we would love to keep it on the 4th, but feasibly it is getting harder and harder to do so. By moving the event to a Saturday it also allows people easier travel to visit our town and our event and this will probably mean larger crowds. It also allows us to have a downtown Rogersville event on Friday night which will help out even more on our local economy.” The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is organized annually by an all-volunteer committee through the 501c3 organization Four Square, Inc. The event is free to the public and relies entirely on the financial support of individuals and businesses throughout the region. To support the celebration by making a donation, you may send it to the following address: Rogersville 4th of July Celebration, c/o Four Square, Inc., P.O. Box 35, Rogersville, TN 37857. July 4th Parade: Fun for Everyone! ROGERSVILLE — Three cheers for the red, white and blue! It’s time to bring out your best patriotic apparel and start planning an entry for the Annual Rogersville 4th of July Parade, scheduled for Thursday, July 4, at 4 p.m. “We’re ready for parade entries to start coming in and encourage everyone to participate and enjoy the day,” organizer Melissa Nelson said. Everything from floats, antique cars, tractors, muscle cars, bicycles, ‘anything and everything’ is welcome,” she added. Line up will begin a 2 p.m. at the East Rogersville Baptist Church parking lot and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Groups are asked not to drop off participants in the line up area, and instead must use surrounding areas. Parties who plan to participate in the parade should also not
arrive before 2 p.m. Promptly at 4 p.m., the parade will make its way west on Main Street, through downtown, and end on Armstrong Road, across from Scotchman convenience store. Items may not be thrown from vehicles, but walking participants may distribute items. Due to insurance liabilities, horses will also not be permitted in the parade. Those who participate should keep their group moving at all times. In the event of an emergency, they should use the nearest side road to exit the parade route. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places for the best float that features the parade theme of “Let Freedom Ring.” Nelson said there were a total of 70 entries in last year’s parade and she’s hoping
“the more the merrier” this year. An entry form is required to participate and may be picked up at Givens-Nelson Realty, located on West Main Street in Rogersville, or the Rogersville / Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce office, located inside the USBank Building on Main Street downtown. Completed forms may be returned to their pickup location, mailed to: Melissa Nelson, 1012 W. Main St., Rogersville, TN 37857, or faxed to (423) 272-5660. Electronic entry forms may also be received and returned by sending an E-mail to melissa. dawson.nelson@gmail.com. For additional information, interested parties may also call the chamber office at 272-2186. @Work Personnel is this year’s primary parade sponsor.

Of One Accord Ministry (The Shepherd’s Center) will once again be participating in the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. Rev. Sheldon Livesay, Director expressed his excitement at being able to join in once again this year. “The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee is a great group of people. They have a desire to serve our community and surrounding area with all their hard work to put on this event – much like Of One Accord Ministry. We will be at the park entrance again this year taking donations of either canned good items or monetary donations. These donations go to purchase food that is distributed through three emergency food pantries serving Hawkins and Hancock counties,” stated Livesay. While food needs are at an all time high due to the economy, the emergency food bank account is at an all time low. Food pantries across the region and the nation are facing the same plight. “We want to give God the glory for this day of celebration here in Rogersville. We work hard year-round to provide the 4th of July Celebration and we have one goal in mind and that is to provide a fun, free day for children and adults in our area. Many folks do not have the means to afford a vacation so we try our best to provide one day of fun for them to enjoy.

Ivy Road Ivy Road has been around for about 14 years, give or take a few members, but its beginning has been with Jason Lloyd and Lynda Laws, both from very musical families. A chance meeting (they think fate) — Lynda’s sister had a music hall in Jonesborough with a July 4th “no show” band. Some begging and a lot of blackmailing convinced her to do her first show ever. Jason, home from Tennessee Tech, said he played guitar a little and offered to help the poor uncontrollably shaking Lynda. The rest is history. They’ve had some fantastic opportunities along the way. They’ve been the opening act for Johnny Winters, The Marshall Tucker Band, and Black Oak Arkansas; toured and played festivals in
www.therogersvillereview.com
Scotland, fan-fare in Nashville, Binion’s Horseshoe Lounge in Miss., and have been the headline act for The Little Chicago Blues Festival. They’ve also been featured on The King Pup Radio Hour, Live with Dave Carter on WETS and on HTV3 television. Some of the festivals they’ve played include The Blue Plum Festival, the Abingdon Highland Festival, Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Speyfest in the U.K. and many more. By sharing the stage with some of the best musicians East Tennessee has to offer, they’ve made some incredible friends along the way. Some of the bands they’ve either started or were a part of are, “The Impalas,” “the Mojo Junkies,” “Ardrossan,” and Benny Wilson. http://pickbristol.com/locals/artists/IvyRoad/39

MotorCross, SuperCross, the Miami Heat, the Orange Bowl, the Super Bowl pre-party, the NFL Pro-Bowl - these are just a few places Bob Smith stops before coming home to Rogersville on the 4th of July. Bob and his wife Julie own and operate Dynamic Effects and Fireworks Company here in Rogersville. Bob and Julie travel continuously from just after Christmas till just before the 4th of July and sometimes in between! “But when it gets close to the 4th of July I have to head back home to Rogersville,” says Bob. He and Julie also feel that the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is the one event each year that they want to showcase their talents and their products! Dynamic Effects and Fireworks Company is once again one of the Major
Sponsors for the 2013 Celebration and Bob says he would not have it any other way. “I travel far and wide all year long doing displays but my favorite show and my favorite stop is right here at home.” Known for indoor fireworks and special effects, Bob has many repeat customers across the land. “I stay very busy, but
not to busy to Celebrate the 4th of July in Rogersville!” Bob is excited about this year’s 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza. “It will be as big as any show you have seen in the past.” Using a soundtrack of current music hits, the fireworks will be synchronized and timed perfectly to put on the 20 to 25 THE ROGERSVILLE

The music winds it way to the Finale, “when I will light up the night skies here in Rogersville!” Smith and wife Julie have been major sponsors for the past several years and they do not foresee any changes any time soon. “We absolutely love the area and we love being involved with the 4th of July Celebration – it has to be one of the premier Celebrations there is.” Dr. Jones states, “I have had several families tell me our fireworks show is second to none and that is saying a lot as they have compared our show to many other places larger than

Saul Brooks Saul Brooks is not your ordinary country singer. At first glance, this long-haired, soft-spoken young man from East Tennessee may not stand out in a crowd - until he steps up and starts to sing. With his unique voice and raw, vocal emotion, whether he’s singing original songs or dynamic covers, Saul gives an amazing performance which draws the crowd in and holds them captive. Since moving to Charleston from Johnson City, TN, Saul has rapidly gained a sizable following, quickly rising to #1 on Reverbnation’s Country Charts for Charleston, SC, and #13 for all music genres in that area. Saul’s shy presence is in stark contrast to the powerful and emotional vocal exuberance he unleashes in his performances and in the songs on his new CD, “Saul Brooks - Bring Your Friends”, an edgy combination of raunchy rock and heartfelt ballads which place him at the forefront of New American Country Music. He has opened for Artists such as Lee Brice, Saving Able, Tyler Farr, and Cody McCarver, and has headlined shows in Tennessee and Charleston. In February he was selected from over 50 bands to

participate in what we feel is the premier 4th of July Celebration event in Northeast Tennessee.” “The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is an expression of Americana at it’s best. As Christians we have a responsibility to give back to the communities that are represented in our congregation. With citizens of Rogersville as part of our congregation it is a joy to give back. We here at Christ Fellowship are proud to once again be a major sponsor of the event and sponsor of the Kids Zone in 2013”. “Several years ago, Dr. Blaine Jones, a member of our congregation and resident

BAE Systems has pledged once again to be one of the sponsors for the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. Tony Hewitt of BAE Systems believes, “it is important for BAE to participate in the communities that we are involved in. We have supported this Celebration for many years and we are proud to be a contributor again this year.” BAE Systems was the initial sponsor of the now famous “Kids Zone” at the Rogersville City Park on the 4th of July. BAE Systems continued this support for several years. “We were excited to be the initial sponsor of such an integral part of the Celebration. We continued that support as well as contributing to the fireworks for many years. This year we will focus on the tremendous fireworks display,” Hewitt said. The Fireworks show is one of the largest in the Southeast during the Celebration and will begin around 10:00pm. “The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is one of the largest events of its kind in this area and we are honored to again be a major sponsor,” Hewitt added. The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee is grateful for the many years of support from BAE Systems. Food City and CocaCola of Morristown, the two longest running sponsors of the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration, are back again in 2013 as major sponsors
of
of this year’s event. Food City has been involved with the Celebration from the very first event! Local store Manager, Brandon Mowell has not been involved in many of our Celebrations as Manager but 2013 will be different. “It is usually a long, hot, day but Food City and our employees enjoy being a part of the 4th of July Celebration – it is a tradition for us to be there,” Mowell related. They have continued to donate money, free food, and prize give-aways throughout the years. Mowell says as well that Food City will have their usual tents set up this year for free snacks while they last and the sign-ups for prizes to be given away later in the day. He invites all attendees to visit Food City tent again this year. Coca-Cola came on board as the Official Soft Drink of the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration not long after the event was up and running. Morristown Coca-Cola has continued their support again this year. Besides providing the Coca-Cola products for the Celebration they contribute financially in a big way that helps support the free day of fun and entertainment that throngs have come to enjoy. Mary Green and her husband Stan have been invaluable employees for CocaCola and have continually served the Celebration each and every year. “We have worked hard during the 4th of July Celebration but we really enjoy it – just being a part of this wonderful event and seeing everyone have a great time is well worth it! The entertainment, the fireworks and all the activities are second to none and CocaCola is just proud to be a major sponsor.” The sale of all Coca-Cola products are one way the Committee is able to raise money to help pay for the event. The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee is proud to have on board once again this year the two longest running sponsors in our history – Food City and Coca-Cola. Thanks to these fine sponsors, once again in 2013 “Rogersville is the Place to Be in Tennessee on the 4th of July”.

(continued from page 29) Interstate Graphics and Charlie and J.R. Moore have donated the full color over sized posters to the Celebration by the thousands over the past several years and this year is no exception. Local graphics artist and 4th of July Committee member, Josh Brooks provided the layout and design of the poster for 2013. This donation represents a big savings to the Committee who would otherwise have to pay thousands of dollars for the printing. The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee thanks Interstate Graphics, Charlie Moore, J.R. Moore and Josh for their continued commitment and support of our event.
“Royston of Rogersville is thrilled to be the Presenting Sponsor this year. The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is a testament to the creativeness and personality that defines Hawkins County. We truly count it as a privilege and an honor to help bring such a topnotch event to the people of Hawkins and the surrounding counties. While it is true that the event cannot happen without sponsorship, it is the selfless service of many volunteers and citizens that truly make it happen. Our sponsorship is just one of the ways we want to thank those that make this county such a great place to live, work, and worship”, said Chad Royston, Manager of Royston of Rogersville. “We were so pleased to work with Chad and Royston of Rogersville to make them our Presenting Sponsor for 2013. Their commitment and support just demonstrate the level to which our event has grown,” said Dr. Blaine Jones, Chairman of the Celebration. ______________________ Eric Williams and Music Palace have been involved with the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration for many years now. Besides providing the back-line equipment
featured at the Celebration, Eric provides labor to assure the stage is set up properly for each act. Music Palace has also been gracious enough to provide a guitar or other musical instrument for a raffle each year. “Music Palace is a wonderful sponsor,” said 4th Chairman, Dr. Blaine Jones. “They provide a service that we are very fortunate to have here locally. Things would not run near as smoothly without Eric and Music Palace being involved in our event.”
The year was 1952 when Ayers Porter opened the first Porter’s Tire Store. Headquartered at 1735 Buffalo Trail in Morristown, Porter’s Tire Store has now expanded to two stores in Morristown and a store each in Greeneville and in Rogersville. Roger Porter and his brothers have kept the family business growing in high style. Porter’s Tire Stores is proud to once again be a major sponsor of the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. “Our nation’s Independence Day celebration embodies what makes this country great! Local folks who work hard to keep this country strong deserve a chance to celebrate with their families with good, clean fun. The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is a class act with something for everyone in the family to enjoy. We are proud to be sponsoring this event again,” said Porter. “We saw this as a great opportunity to give back to the community in a special way. Porter’s Tire recognizes the grassroots of America are what keeps our country special and strong. The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is the biggest and best around and it is such a family oriented event – it truly is the “Place to Be in Tennessee on the 4th of July”! Not only do we want to give back to our community but we saw this as an opportunity to make people aware of the great service we offer at Porter’s Tire Store.”
One of Rogersville’s growing industries, Sam Dong Company, is again one of this year’s sponsors for the 2013 Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. The South Korean company purchased the former Assured Castings plant and opened for business in 2008 in the Rogersville Industrial Park. Sam Dong produces specialty magnet wire products used in electrical transformers, electric motors and generators. Sam Dong has been in business in South Korea for 30 years and exports its products globally. By their recent addition of the Rogersville plant, Leon Molloy, president of the North American branch of the company said, “it is the ideal location for Sam Dong to be able to provide the North American market and handle some export opportunities as well.” VP of Operations / Plant Manager Sun Gi Park and company President Molloy are enthusiastic about the future growth in the Rogersville plant and they are pleased to be involved in local and community events like the 4th of July Celebration. “We are excited that we can once again be a sponsor of the 4th of July Celebration! We know many people attend the event and enjoy all the free festivities that occur at the Rogersville City Park. We want to be a good neighbor and do our part,” Park said recently. The Sam Dong Company has been a sponsor of the event over the last several years. For more information on the Sam Dong Company, visit their website at www.samdongkorea.com.
How appropriate that the men and women who volunteer to serve our great country have stepped forward to volunteer their time and service for our use at the 2013 Rogersville 4th of July Celebration! The Wall will be staffed by the local 278th Tennessee Army National Guard Saturday, July 6th at the Rogersville City Park – and climbing will be FREE! Sgt. Roy Spears worked diligently and very closely with us to help man the Rock
Climbing Wall. Besides the wall, several members of the Guard will be there and they will be bringing a vehicle or two for the kids to enjoy as well as the spider tent! “We are ever so grateful to Sgt. Spears as he worked very hard to secure the services of the Guard for our event. We really appreciate him and the Guard stepping up as usual,” said event Chairmen, Dr. Blaine Jones. Even if you do not have kids and you do not climb Rock Walls, please stop by the Tennessee Army National Guard setup and thank the men and women who make this day of celebrating our independence all possible. “Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital has always been and will continue to be an important part of this community,” said Fred Pelle, the hospital’s Director. “The Rogersville Fourth of July Celebration is important to this region, and we’re happy to play a role in the festivities.” Wellmont has been a sponsor of the event since 1992. Pelle knows the impact and enormity this Celebration has on East Tennessee, much like Wellmont has on this area’s health care. “We pride ourselves in being community oriented and feel honored to be included once again as a major sponsor.” TVA is proud to be a part of Rogersville’s 4th of July celebration. Supporting this most worthy event is one of the many ways TVA gives back to the community. We appreciate the opportunity to support the community as we celebrate our country’s freedom and remember the sacrifices that so many have given in the service of our country. “TVA has been a major sponsor of the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration for several years now and 2013 is no exception,” said Chairman of the event, Dr. Blaine Jones. “They have helped us connect with several other big sponsors as well the past few years. TVA has stood beside us for many years now”.

The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is just around the corner and things are shaping up for another big Independence Day Celebration in historic Rogersville! Final plans and preparations, as well as much needed fund raising, are being made. One way the 4th of July Celebration Committee raises money to fund the all day, FREE event is by selling novelties, drinks and T-shirts. Terry Owen at Simply Tee-Rific has been printing the shirts for the 4th of July Celebration. Owen sells ads for the backs of the T-shirts, prints them and then donates them to the Committee to sell as a fund-raiser. “Terry has always done a fantastic job for us and provided us a great way to raise funds for our event,”
