‘Celebrating Freedom’ with a parade BY JOEL SPEARS MANAGING EDITOR ROGERSVILLE — Everybody loves a parade, and the Rogersville Independence Day Parade is just around the corner, looking for participants. On Friday, July 4, beginning at 4 p.m. sharp, organizers said, the parade will begin making it’s way west on Main Street from the East Rogersville Baptist Church Parking Lot. Those interested in participating in the parade should be lined up at the church and ready to roll out before the 4 p.m. start time. The route will conclude at Armstrong Road.

Parade Coordinator Melissa Nelson said, “This year, our theme is ‘Celebrating Freedom,’ and I want to encourage everybody to put their best foot forward, in their best patriotic outfits, with their best patriotic floats and vehicles, and come join us for an old-fashioned 4th of July celebration.” Nelson added that, in addition to the annual parade, and in keeping with the old-fashioned theme that will help celebrate Rogersville’s 225th anniversary, banners, window displays and more will decorate the streets and storefronts, adding to the historic, festive setting. The Annual Rogersville Independence Day Parade is sponsored by @Work Personnel, in coordi-

nation with the Town of Rogersville, the Rogersville Main Street Program, Rogersville/Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce, Four Square, Inc., and a host of other sponsors. Immediately following the parade, a July 4th Cruise-In On the Square will be held downtown, featuring live entertainment by the band Ivy Road. For parade entry forms, contact Nelson at (423) 293-4272 or email melissa.dawson.nelson@gmail.com.

TWO HEADLINERS

ONE BIG DAY!

BY JOEL SPEARS MANAGING EDITOR

ROGERSVILLE — As the temperatures continue to rise, things are already heating up for the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration, scheduled this year on Saturday, July 5. Two headliners, up-and-coming

country artist Dustin Lynch and contemporary Christian singer Matthew West, are both slated to perform on the main stage at Rogersville City Park this year.

Dustin Lynch Since his hit, “Cowboys and Angels,” Dustin Lynch has sold more

than one million copies of his debut single and has surpassed 10 million views on YouTube/VEVO. He has also achieved No. 1 on the MTV Music Meter, earned a #No. 1 ringtone on CMT, a Top 5 on the Billboard Heatseekers Songs Chart, a No. 2 Country radio single, two American Country Award nominations and a CMT Music Award nomination. The

song “Cowboys and Angels” was one of Billboard’s Top 5 Country Songs of 2012. The editors of Rolling Stone magazine have lauded Lynch as one of “Nashville’s New Hit Makers” in their 2013 Best of Rock Issue, while ELLE magazine named him a “Best

Smith, Casting Crowns, Diamond Rio and others. “The Heart of Christmas,” the title track of West’s 2011 holiday album, inspired a television movie and provided him with his first foray into acting. His 2010 album, The Story of Your Life, entered the Christian album chart at No. 3 in its debut week in 2010 and has, to date, outsold his previous album by 20 percent, according to his Web site. It also spawned a popular book, “The Story of Your Life,” which West penned with noted author Angela Thomas, and a church curriculum DVD series. His song “Hello My Name Is” boasts a record-setting 17 weeks at the No. 1 spot on contemporary Christian charts.

In addition to a full day of events on Saturday, Jones also said the celebration committee is also preparing for a week-long series of events that will lead up to Independence Weekend. While complete information for those events will be announced as information becomes available, Jones said they include the annual Rogersville Independence Day Parade on Friday, July 4 along with other downtown activities that day, a Patriotic Prayer Rally by Expecting God’s Help on Wednesday, July 2, as well as participation from other local nonprofit organizations including Rogersville Arts Council and Rogersville Heritage Association. The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is a free day of family-oriented entertainment. It is part of the Rogersville-based umbrella group Four Square, Inc., an all-volunteer, nonprofit,

Brad Puckett: Rocking Country Music If your hankering for some rocking country music, Brad Puckett is just the guy for you. A native of Kingsport, TN, Brad was born with country music coursing through his veins. “The Lyrics were always the most important part of the songs to me,” Brad says about his choice of tunes for his debut album. “I used to spend hours when I was a kid pouring over the liner notes on records looking at who the writers were, in hopes of one day I would be writing songs with some of those guys.” Brad’s dream came true is March of 2011, Brad has gotten a chance to write with legendary songwriters such as Kim Williams (Papa Loved Mama, Ain’t Going Down Till The Sun Comes Up), Doug Johnson (Three Wooden Crosses, Love Like Crazy,) Beverley Ross(Lollipop,Judy’s Turn to Cry) and Nashville Recording Artist Keith Anderson (Pickin Wildflowers) just to name a few. Brad’s willingness to think outside the box and embrace the changes coming to the music business makes him a new breed of recording artist, one who knows as much about the craft and business of songwriting, as he does about singing and rocking the stage. His high energy live set is always a crowd pleaser as Brad and his band crank out classic rock tunes intermingled with solid country gold. “It’s all about pleasing the audience,” says Brad about his showmanship. “I leave it all right there on the stage.” Working with Nashville record producer, Buddy Hyatt (formerly the keyboard player in the band Toto) Brad put together a collection of songs that would make any major label proud. You can hear the first single “At Least I’m Feeling Again” in October 2013 as it hit airwaves.

Brad has a unique blend of past and present, influences and original, rock and country. “I like to keep it interesting,” says Brad. “Somebody asked me once, “Brad who do you know that just likes one kind of music?” The answer, of course was, “Well nobody.” That’s the kind of thing I keep in mind with my audience. I don’t leave a song off the set list because it’s too rock, or too county. There’s no such thing. It’s all about picking great songs and letting them speak for themselves.”

Brad Puckett On Stage — City Park Saturday, July 5th 4:00 p.m.

Brad was signed to Phoenix Records Nashville in June 2012. “To me, its all about what the music can do. It has the ability to reach out and change lives in just some way. If you’re lucky and blessed that your songs can do that it’s more than any artist can ask.”

Brad’s career took off with an opening performance for the country music legend Joe Diffie in Johnson City, TN, in October 2013 and he is scheduled to open for several more stars throughout 2014. Brad has opened for Confederate Railroad, Larry Gatlin, and many more country stars. Brad’s New Album will be out in June 2014 and has performed at the Blue Bird Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe Nashville and performed in over 30 states in the last year. With one of the best live shows in country music Brad is on the brink of being country music next big thing! Look for Brad’s New Album and check out a live show of this up and coming star! Dynamic Effects plans to light up the night sky over Rogersville MotorCross, SuperCross, the Miami Heat, the Orange Bowl, the Nuclear Cowboyz, the NFL Pro Bowl — these are just a few places Bob Smith stops before coming home to Rogersville on the 4th of July. Bob and his wife Julie own and operate Dynamic Effects and Fireworks Company here in Rogersville, TN. Bob and Julie travel continuously from just after Christmas till just before the 4th of July and sometimes in between! “But when it gets close to the 4th of July I have to head back home to Rogersville,” says Bob. He and Julie also feel that the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is the one event each year that they want to showcase their talents and their products! Dynamic Effects and Fireworks Company is once again one of the Major Sponsors for the 2013 Celebration and Bob says he would not have it any other way. “I travel far and wide all year long doing displays but my favorite

show and my favorite stop is right here at home.” Known for indoor fireworks and special effects, Bob has many repeat customers across the land. “I stay very busy, but not too busy to Celebrate the 4th of July in Rogersville!” Bob is already planning for this year’s 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza and says, “It will be as big as any show you have seen in the past.” Using a soundtrack of current music hits, the fireworks will be synchronized and timed perfectly

to put on the 20 to 25 minute show. The fireworks soundtrack can be heard even by those outside of the Park courtesy of WRGS Radio doing a simulcast over the airwaves while the music plays in the Park. The music winds it way to the Finale when Dynamic Effects and Fireworks light up the night sky here in Rogersville. Smith and wife Julie have been major sponsors for the past several years and they do not foresee any changes any time soon. “We absolutely love the area and we love

being involved with the 4th of July Celebration – it has to be one of the premier Celebrations there is.” Dr. Jones states, “I have had several families tell me our fireworks show is second to none and that is saying a lot as they have compared our show to many other places larger than Rogersville.” The sound track will have the usual favorites, some new music, some surprises and a variety of music for all ages. The booms, the bangs, the bright lights, the synchronized firing will cap off another huge Celebration this year thanks to Bob and Julie Smith and Dynamic Effects and Fireworks – who help make “Rogersville the Place to Be in Tennessee on the 4th of July.” Those wishing to contribute to the fun, free event may do so by sending their donation to the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration, P.O. One of Rogersville’s growing industries, Sam Dong Company, is again one of this year’s sponsors for the 2014 Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. The South Korean company purchased the former Assured Castings plant and opened for business in 2008 in the Rogersville Industrial Park. Sam Dong produces specialty magnet wire products used in electrical transformers, electric motors and generators. Sam Dong has been in business in South Korea for 30 years and exports its products globally. By their recent addition of the Rogersville plant, Leon Molloy, president of the North American branch of the company said, “It is the ideal location for Sam Dong to be able to provide the North American market and handle some export opportunities as well.” Company management is very enthusiastic about the future growth in the Rogersville plant and they are pleased to be involved in local and community events like the 4th of July Celebration. “We are excited that we can once again be a sponsor of the 4th of July Celebration! We know many people attend the event and enjoy all the free festivities that occur at the Rogersville City Park. We want to be a good neighbor and do our part.”. The Sam Dong Company has been a sponsor of the event over the last several years. TVA is proud to be a part of Rogersville’s 4th of July Celebration.

www.therogersvillereview.com Supporting this most worthy event is one of the many ways TVA gives back to the community. They appreciate the opportunity to support the community as we celebrate our country’s freedom and remember the sacrifices that so many have given in the service of our country. “TVA has been a major sponsor of the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration for several years now and this year is no exception,” said Chairman of the event, Dr. Blaine Jones. “They have helped us connect with several other big sponsors as well the past few years. TVA has stood beside us for many years now.”

“Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital has always been and will continue to be an important part of this community,” said Fred Pelle, the hospital’s Director. “The Rogersville Fourth of July Celebration is important to this region, and we’re happy to play a role in the festivities.” Wellmont has been a sponsor of the event since 1992. Pelle knows the impact and enormity this Celebration has on East Tennessee, much like Wellmont has on this area’s health care. “We pride ourselves in being community oriented and feel honored to be included once again as a major sponsor,” says Pelle. Wellmont is one of the many sponsors of this year’s event being touted as the “biggest and best” yet.
