Rogersville: The greatest ‘Place to be’ on the 4th of July Weekend A message from Dr. Blaine Jones, Chairman, Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee Welcome to Rogersville — as we say in East Tennessee, “Rogersville is the Place to Be in Tennessee on the 4th of July” and 2015 is no different! We are tickled to death that you chose to spend your Independence Day here with us. We have plenty of things to do and due to some very caring and devoted Sponsors, everything but the food and drink is FREE! The Kids Zone should provide hours of fun for any child who may be visiting – inflatables; Water Wars; free swimming; and other exciting things are all available! There is entertainment galore! The entertainment starts at 1p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. from the Main Stage. And then my favorite part, the huge Fireworks Extravaganza up on Fireworks Hill that begins promptly at 10 p.m. It is one of the largest fireworks shows you will ever enjoy!! Please make sure to do several things while you are here:
1) Have fun! 2) Be safe! 3) Keep up with your kids (or Kids, keep up with your parents) 4) Make a note of where the First Aid Stations, Lost Child Booths, bathrooms, food booths, Kids Zone, etc. are located and visit them as needed! 5) Have more fun! 6) Be sure to visit our Sponsors and thank them for their support. 7) Pick up any trash around you and put it in a pile or in a trash bag for pickup. 8) Remember, God Loves You —and we do, too!! 9) Finally, make tons of Family Memories here at the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration — they will last you a lifetime — I promise! Happy 4th of July and thank you for choosing ‘Rogersville as the Place to Be in Tennessee on the 4th of July’.
The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee is actively seeking donations to help support our Celebration. We provide most of the days festivities at no charge – FREE!! – by soliciting donations from the public, private, industrial and business sources in our community. No donation goes unnoticed – whether it be $10 or a $1000 – we will promise to use it wisely. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization. Will you please help us as we continue
to make Rogersville “The Place to Be in Tennessee” on the 4th of July!! The 4th of July Committee is still seeking donations to help fund our Celebration. Of One Accord Ministry:
Serving our community Of One Accord Ministry (The Shepherd’s Center) will once again be participating in the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. Rev. Sheldon Livesay, Director expressed his excitement at being able to join in once again this year. “The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee is a great group of people. They have a desire to serve our community and surrounding area with all their hard work to put on this event – much like Of One Accord Ministry. “We will be at the park entrance again this year taking donations of either canned good items or monetary donations. These donations go to
purchase food that is distributed through three emergency food pantries serving Hawkins and Hancock counties,” stated Livesay. While food needs are at an all time high due to the economy, the emergency food bank account is at an all time low. Food pantries across the region and the nation are facing the same plight. “We want to give God the Glory for this day of celebration here in Rogersville. We work hard year round to provide the 4th of July Celebration and we have one goal in mind and that is to provide a fun, free day for children and adults in our area. TWO HEADLINERS
ONE BIG DAY!
Award-winning artists with a passion for God and Country
Saturday, July 4th at 6:30 p.m. ROGERSVILLE — The Rogersville 4th of July Committee is pleased to announce that recording artists Big Daddy Weave and The Swon Brothers will co-headline the 2015 concert at City Park on Sat., July 4. Fans of NBC’s “The Voice” will remembers The Swon Brothers, Zach and Colton, as finalists from Season Four. Mark DeWitte, treasurer of the Rogersville 4th of July Committee said, “The Swon Brothers will continue our
recent tradition of having an up and coming country act at the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. We are thrilled to have Zach and Colton come and perform for our 2015 event.” Sharing the stage with The Swons, contemporary Christian artists Big Daddy Weave, whose band members will perform more than a decade of Dove Award-winning hits. “We are excited to have Big Daddy Weave come and perform for our 2015 Celebration,” said Dr. Blaine Jones,
Saturday, July 4th at 8:30 Chairman of the 4th of July Celebration. Both concerts will take place at Rogersville City Park beginning at 6 p.m. on Sat., July 4. Big Daddy Weave will take the stage at 6 p.m., followed by The Swon Brothers at 8:30 p.m.
Big Daddy Weave Few artists have done that more consistently or more movingly than Big Daddy Weave. Through hits like “In Christ,” “Audience of One,” “You’re Worthy Of My Praise,” “Every Time I
Breathe,” What Life Would Be Like,” and “You Found Me,” they have shared the journey in a way that has won the ongoing respect of fans, press and industry alike. Their musical journey began with a Dove Awards nomination as New Artist of the Year in 2002 and includes a 2010 Dove Award for the album Christ Has Come. They have been honored at ASCAP’s Christian Music Awards, were

From page 8 chosen for the WOW Hits compilations in five of the last six years and are one of the 10 most played artists at Christian radio over the past decade. Most recently, they hit the top of the Christian AC chart — the fourth time they’ve done so — with “Love Come To Life,” a song filled with passion and intimacy, and with the musical hooks and majestic sound that have marked so much of their work, it is the perfect introduction to Love Come To Life, their first studio album in more than three years. Songs like the title track and “Save My Life,” a song Mike describes as “gut-level honesty,” give way to others like “Magnificent God,” “Jesus Move,” “Different Light,” and “If You Died Tonight.” The meeting of life and music has been part and parcel of Big Daddy Weave’s appeal since their earlier days. Formed at the University of Mobile, the quintet — Mike, his brother Jay, who plays bass, Jeremy, Jeff, and keyboardist/saxophonist Joe Shirk — released an independent album in 2001 and then landed a deal with Fervent Records, their label home ever since. “One and Only,” the title track from their first Fervent album, debuted in SoundScan’s Christian Top 5 and remained in the Top 20 for six weeks. “In Christ” peaked at #2, stayed for 24 weeks on R&R’s AC chart, earned a spot on the Dove Hits album, and became one of ASCAP’s most-performed songs of 2002 — a milestone also achieved by “Audience of One” in 2003. The band has always kept a busy touring schedule and in fact often recorded parts of their early albums in hotel rooms. The fact that those records touched lives and earned chart success is evident in their recent hits package, The Ultimate

Collection. “We had been struggling to find balance as family men, touring musicians, and people following the Lord. But the Lord has given us healing and blessed us with being able to find the balance in him. It’s been amazing to see God do that in us.” “This is as much a real family as anything else,” says Mike. “The work that God has done in our band makes it all new again because of our sense of purpose, not just to make music but to be used of God. And that’s the bottom line — what God wants us to do with this.”
The Swon Brothers Zach and Colton Swon spent their formative years in Muskogee, Oklahoma — in fact, they grew up right down the street from American Idol champ-turnedcountry-superstar Carrie Underwood, and the three shared a stage many times throughout their childhood years. Already naturals before they were even pre-teens, both Zach and Colton found that they were most at home on stage. Performing in their family’s gospel group since they were old enough to talk, Zach says, “We traveled with our parents every weekend playing churches. Ever since we were babies, we’ve been on the bus, hearing music and watching musicians. It’s definitely what got us turned on to music. I played instruments earlier than Colton; he was more the singer and stage performer. I started out on drums at age three, and by the time I was nine, I was playing drums for my parents’ band. After leaving the road, their parents formed a family-style variety show in

www.therogersvillereview.com From page 10 nearby Wagoner, OK, and soon Zach and Colton were charming crowds and cutting their musical teeth on everything from Elvis to Frank Sinatra. “That’s where I came out of my shell on stage and really began performing,” says Colton. “We had to learn everything from Sinatra to Michael Jackson in the show – but of course, country was our favorite! The Swons’ show at the Civic Center was soon filling the building to capacity, and little did they know that those weekly performances would be great training for their break as contestants on NBC’s hit talent competition, The Voice. After trying out for the show in 2013, the siblings became instant fan favorites, not only musically, but also personally, as their fun-loving, often hilarious brotherly banter gave fans insight into a duo whose off-stage personalities are as engaging and down to earth as they are on stage. Teamed with judge Blake Shelton on “Team Blake” on Season 4 of the series, Shelton guided the duo into the Top 3 and a near-win, and later became a close ally who helped them navigate the ins and outs of the music business when Nashville record labels came calling.
Life has a funny way of coming full circle, as the Swons discovered when they signed a deal with Arista Nashville, the same label as their old Oklahoma buddy, Carrie Underwood. The Swons debuted their groove-filled opening single, “Later On,” during a triumphant return to The Voice, which propelled the song to the top of the iTunes country singles chart within 24 hours. Spanning 11 songs in all, The Swon Brothers features fun-filled, energetic sing-alongs like “Later On” and “What I’m Thinking About,” but it also has its share of laid-back, dirt-road, classic country heartwrenchers like “Chasing You Around” and “Same Old Highway.” At the other end of the spectrum from high-energy up-tempos like “95” – an ode to the fun side of weathering a heat wave – are songs like the contemplative yet non-judgmental “Pray for You” and the gorgeous narrative “This Side of Heaven,” both of which highlight the depth and breadth of the Swons’ talent and their innate ability to connect with a song. “‘Pray for You’ is a song that we wanted to be powerful,” says Zach. “It’s more of an anthem than a ballad. We always talk about it in shows as a song of hope. Sometimes you just need something else when everything else isn’t working, no matter what you

believe. So that’s a special one to us.” Album-closer “This Side of Heaven” is definitely the chill-bump track of the collection, as Zach shares, “It’s rare that a song grabs me on first listen, but that one just stuck in my head immediately. It’s such a sad song, but it’s so uplifting, too. I think it’s one of the most well-written songs I’ve ever heard.” Though they both write, they mined a wealth of rich outside material for their major-label debut, but for “Songs That Said It All,” the duo co-wrote the track as the result of a chance meeting at a concert by one of their biggest influences: the Eagles. “My brother ran into [Lady Antebellum’s] Charles Kelley at an Eagles concert in Nashville, and he was kind enough to say, ‘Hey, let’s get together and write,’” recalls Colton. “And we exchanged numbers and wrote that song with him and Dave Haywood the next week. We’re really proud of it since it’s the song we co-wrote together on the album.” In their choice of songs, the 2014 CMA Vocal Duo of the Year nominees also set out to make an album that they felt would endure. “We wanted to make a record that we would want to hear years from now,” Colton says, as Zach adds, “Ultimately, we made something that we are very proud to call ‘us.’”

The Temper Evans Band On Stage — City Park Saturday, July 4th at 2:00 p.m.
The Temper Evans Band is an exciting, five piece progressive Country band raised on traditional Country Music, with Southern Rock, Blues, Bluegrass and Gospel Music roots. Temper Evans Band musicians are comprised of a variety of musical styles and influences. All five are gifted musicians, and their genuine love for music is apparent. Night after night, The Temper Evans Band creates an engaging musical experience that brings fans back time and time again. Four years ago, Temper and Brother Derrick Evans were asked to throw a band together to fill a time slot at a local festival. Aiming to please, as usual the siblings were bound and determined not to fail and called on some friends and local musicians to help fill the slot. With a practice or two under their belt, they took to the stage with an excitement they had never felt before. Even so, the gang managed to pull it off. As most musicians do, the siblings realized they had the ability to live a dream they had never thought possible.
Temper being the adventurous soul she has always been, set her mind on putting together a well rehearsed band that would be able to play a multitude of venues and platforms. After a few months in the wood shed the band was ready to hit the road. Getting better with each show their dream was quickly turning into a reality. In the fall of 2014 Temper and Derrick added Scott Haley, John Clay Garland and Kris Jones to the band which seemed to breathe new life into an already existing dream. The Temper Evans Band consistently packs nightclubs, concerts, fairs and private parties across the Southeast. With a growing resume, so far the Band has opened a show for David Allen Coe and even headlined a show at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Working on their first original album and a schedule that promises to bring bigger opportunities their way, the Temper Evans Band is sure to be destined for great things.

Singer / Songwriter
Kaitlyn Baker’s music reflects the beauty of the Cumberland Mountains and the ruggedness of the coal mining culture in which she was raised. “My father, grandfather and uncle used to work in the coal mines,” says the native of Pound, Virginia. “I grew up listening to Gospel and classic rock. I feel as if all those influences combined to give me a bluesy, country-rock style that’s a little sassy.” Kaitlyn has been wowing audiences since she first sang in church, at the age of 7. By the time she was 14, she had completed two self-produced albums and was co-writing with established Nashville songwriters. Through the years, she has opened for such popular artists as Travis Tritt, Billy Currington, Doug Stone, Sawyer Brown, Rhonda Vincent, Sammy Kershaw, Brett Eldredge and Josh Gracin. Recently, she taped an episode of the nationally syndicated

Dynamic Effects plans to light up the night sky over Rogersville MotorCross, SuperCross, the Miami Heat, the Orange Bowl, the Nuclear Cowboyz, the NFL Pro Bowl — these are just a few places Bob Smith stops before coming home to Rogersville on the 4th of July. Bob and his wife Julie own and operate Dynamic Effects and Fireworks Company here in Rogersville, TN. Bob and Julie travel continuously from just after Christmas till just before the 4th of July and sometimes in between! “But when it gets close to the 4th of July I have to head back home to Rogersville,” says Bob. He and Julie also feel that the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is the one event each year that they want to showcase their talents and their products! Dynamic Effects and Fireworks Company is once again one of the Major Sponsors for the 2013 Celebration and Bob says he would not have it any other way. “I travel far and wide all year long doing displays but my favorite show and my
favorite stop is right here at home.” Known for indoor fireworks and special effects, Bob has many repeat customers across the land. “I stay very busy, but not too busy to Celebrate the 4th of July in Rogersville!” Bob is already planning for this year’s 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza and says, “It will be as big as any show you have seen in the past.” Using a soundtrack of current music hits, the fireworks will be synchronized and timed perfectly to put on the 20 to 25 minute show. The fireworks soundtrack can be heard even by those outside of the Park courtesy of WRGS Radio doing a simulcast over the airwaves while the music plays in the Park. The music winds it way to the Finale when Dynamic Effects and Fireworks light up the night sky here in Rogersville. Smith and wife Julie have been major sponsors for the past several years and they do not foresee any changes any time soon. “We absolutely love the area and we love being involved with the 4th of July
Celebration – it has to be one of the premier Celebrations there is.” Dr. Jones states, “I have had several families tell me our fireworks show is second to none and that is saying a lot as they have compared our show to many other places larger than Rogersville.” The sound track will have the usual favorites, some new music, some surprises and a variety of music for all ages. The booms, the bangs, the bright lights, the synchronized firing will cap off another huge Celebration this year thanks to Bob and Julie Smith and Dynamic Effects and Fireworks – who help make “Rogersville the Place to Be in Tennessee on the 4th of July.” Those wishing to contribute to the fun, free event may do so by sending their donation to the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration, P.O. Box 35, Rogersville, TN 37857. Check us out on the web at www. rogersville4thofjuly.com.

T-shirt sales help fund Celebration The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration is just around the corner and things are shaping up for another big Independence Day Celebration in historic Rogersville! Final plans and preparations, as well as much needed fund raising, are being made. One way the 4th of July Celebration Committee raises money to fund the all day, FREE event is by selling novelties, drinks and T-Shirts. Terry Owen at Simply TeeRiffic has been printing the shirts for the 4th of July Celebration. Owen sells ads for the backs of the T Shirts, prints them and then donates them to the Committee to sell as a fund raiser. “Terry has always done a fantastic job for us and provided us a great way to raise funds for our event” according to Chairman Dr. Blaine Jones.
T-Shirt presales will begin soon and will be available at Givens & Nelson Realty; The Rogersville Review; and The Looking Glass Beauty Salon. Multiple novelties will also be sold at the Celebration including Glo Lites, Glo Jewelry, LED Spinners and much more! All proceeds from novelty, T-Shirt and drink sales go back into the 4th of July Celebration Committee funds to pay for the show! Donations are welcomed and needed to help cover the costs of this year’s show. You can make a donation by sending your check to the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration, P.O. Box 35, Rogersville, TN 37857. For your convenience, a PayPal link can be found on our all new web page at www.rogersville4thofjuly.com.
2015 Official Rogersville 4th of July Celebration T-shirt The official 2015 Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Teeshirt was designed by none other than Jim Caswell. Honoring the tradition of musical entertainment on the 4th of July and the always entertaining Cruise In and Car Show on the Friday before the Celebration, Caswell incorporated the old Red, White and Blue as well. Terry Owen and Simply Tee-Rific produced the t-shirts. The shirts will be on sale soon at Givens-Nelson Realty, The Looking Glass Beauty Salon, and The Rogersville Review office – all on
Main Street in Rogersville. Shirts will be on sale before, during and after the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration. All proceeds from t-shirt sales go to help support the Celebration.
