Welcome to Rogersville’s 2018 4th of July Celebration A message from the 2018 Rogersville 4th of July Celebration Committee Welcome to Rogersville’s 2018 4th of July Celebration It was on July 2, 1776, that the gutsy Second Continental Congress voted to declare the nation free. Thomas Jefferson then composed a Declaration of Independence on July 4. It was further edited by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. In a personal letter to his wife Abigail, Adams wrote, “The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated as the Day of Deliverance by
solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever.” From this bold beginning, our nation of thirteen original ragtag colonies has grown to 52 states, one out in the ocean, the last two added in the lifetime of many of us living today. This is what we celebrate. Today we all are patriots. Today we all declare independence. It is our prayer, our hope, and our expectation you will enjoy your day in Rogersville.

Rogersville 4th of July Celebration has a
Brand New Logo! The Rogersville 4th of July Celebration’s new logo is designed by Lauren Hartness of Rogersville. Lauren says, “The 4th of July logo features a modernized version of our courthouse — the center Rogersville — to signify the importance of this event to our town. I chose to give both a historic and modern twist to the logo to correlate with how our historic town has come to flourish today, as old homes
are restored to their former glory, buildings like the Kyle House are repurposed into local businesses, and the Hale Springs Inn opens its doors to guests. It was with great honor that I was given the opportunity to create and design the logo for this event, as I was born and raised in Rogersville and have spent each year in attendance.”

Fireworks!
The Perfect Ending to the 4th of July The citizens’ favorite part of the 4th of July Celebration seems to be the fireworks display which lasts almost a half hour and can be seen for miles around. Living in this small town are the owners of the big business, Dynamic Effects and Fireworks Company. Bob and Julie Smith have created shows for the Orange Bowl, the NFL Pro Bowl, MotorCross, SuperCross, the Miami Heat, the Nuclear Cowboyz, and the Rogersville 4th of July Celebration
at City Park. The Smiths have been major sponsors of the event for a decade, matching dollar for dollar the amount the 4th of July Committee raises for fireworks. This year’s accompanying soundtrack will be created by Dr. Blaine Jones. It is the wish of the Committee and the Smiths each citizen will enjoy the show, either at the Park, or from the comfort of home. Thanks to the donors!

Aaron Walker Band Bringing their own style and sound to the country scene If there was a sound that captured the words outlaw, hey y’all, and yee haw this side of the Nolichucky, there would be no other group that comes to mind clearer than Aaron Walker and the band that backs him. Aaron Walker Band delivers a very raw feel on stage with passion and a burning for what some may say is missing in certain corners of country music today. They are a group of guys all born and raised off the mountains in East Tennessee and have been bringing their own style and sound to the country scene in and around. The band consists of Taylor Johnson
on guitar and vocals, Connor Landers on guitar, Ethan Maltsburger on bass, Tad Norton on drums, and the man with the name himself Aaron Walker manning the helm and leading vocals.

Of One Accord Ministry:
Freedom from Hunger Drive Benefits Area Food Pantries Once again the Rogersville 4th of July Committee is partnering with Of One Accord and event attendees to provide non-perishable food items for three food pantries in Hawkins and Hancock Counties. Food pantries here experience high demand due to lack of employment opportunities and low wages. When school is out for summer, children where we live are hungry. They can have breakfast and lunch at school, but food may be unavailable for many during summer break.
Countless studies show children living with hunger and malnutrition may be dramatically impacted for the remainder of their lives with developmental issues and health problems. Current statistics for this area indicated 21.9% of children in our area are in danger of being hungry. The rate of hunger for the elderly is 10.3%, up from 2017. 64% of the hungry in our area do not qualify for federal food assistance programs. As you plan your day at the Park, please stop by the grocery store and pick
up some food items which would be filling, nutritious, and tasty. Rita Jones, Community Nutrition Program Director says, “We love all the children we reach through our summer food ministry, and strive to reach each hungry child in the county.” You may contribute your food at the booth on the left side of the street at the Park Boulevard entrance to City Park from 1 to 6 p.m. on the 4th. For further information, call 423-272-2646.
On your way to the park July 4th, make plans to bring some canned goods or a monetary donation to help Of One Accord Ministry restock their food pantries. Your donation will help many your neighbors in need!
General Election WRITE-IN August g 2, 2018
Will be at the park entrance July 4th - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm collecting donations of canned goods or cash donations to help restock Hawkins County’s food pantries through the summer. Your donations ensure there is food to serve needy neighbors. For more information, call 423-272-4626

Political partisanship fosters controversy and division. Our county needs unity and cooperation. Danny Breeding will be a county mayor with low regard for politics whose office will provide data, information and facts to commissioners and county officials necessary for them to be fully informed. Being informed leads to understanding, and understanding leads to involvement, cooperation, agreement and unity; those ingredients combined with the sound leadership of DANNY BREEDING are needed to solve the problems of our county. As Veterans Service Officer, Danny Breeding has increased benefits to our veterans and dependents more than ten-fold — over $28 million as of 2017! Allow him to do the same kind of service for Hawkins County by voting for him on August 2, 2018.
