Mon Apr 11 Not open to the public. Students watch a screening of short films on the craft of creating for the screen, followed by a panel discussion to discuss the films they just watched, the craft of filmmaking, and elements of film production. Finally, at the Behind the Scenes Career Expo, students speak one-on-one with representatives from post-secondary schools and potential employers from the media industries (VFX, animation, production…). Students in grades 9-12 can register through their school by contacting education@r2rfestival.org.

Eight youth on wait list to see therapists have been recommended for an experimental pandemic peer support program. They have travelled far to be here and experience a journey that they did not expect. Created by diverse youth with playwright and director Valerie Methot, this theatre piece involves several youth and artists, lots of comedy, drama, music, and inspiration. Celebrating its 21st season, Some Assembly’s theatre collaborations between youth and professional artists build awareness, promote wellness, and encourage dialogue about issues facing youth. A collaboration between Metro Vancouver Youth and Some Assembly Theatre Company with artists: Valerie Methot, Susan Bertoia, Allen Morrison, Matt Clarke, Sally Zori, Nik McLaren, Tina Biello, Anna Talbot, Sophie Labrie, Brogan Ho, Joe Baker, Lauren Preissl, Heather McCrae, Chantele Fry Jeremy Baxter, Jessica Han, Duane Murrin, and Patrick Graham. The collection reflects their hopes for community, dreams of belonging, and aspirations for a better tomorrow. Thu May 5 – Sat May 7 Performance Centre INFO roundhouse.ca/events Climate stories don’t have to be all doom and gloom, they can uplift and re-center marginalized and underrepresented voices, as well as non-extractive worldviews. Re-storying Your Future is a 3-month residency where youth become cinematic storytellers by developing a script and creating their own narratives on climate change during a 48-hour film shoot. The film will be premiered during BC Youth Week, featuring script readings and panel discussions.
