Two years of a Joe Judge of fense will do that to you, I guess.

But even if this joy is brief, I’ll still know that I had at least one weekend of happiness in an oth erwise dreadful football season, and I will feel lucky.

But you know what? It just doesn’t matter this week.

I’d forgotten how electric the oft-injured Saquon Barkley could be when healthy. I’d forgotten what it was like to watch the final three minutes of a football game between cracks in your fingers, just praying that the defense wouldn’t let the opposition march into field goal range. Heck, I forgot what it was like to have a brash, gutsy coach rolling the dice with his guys in a big spot.

Because I don’t know if Jets fans are even going to have that.

Is this going to be a fleeting feeling? Almost assuredly. But beggars, as they say, can’t be choosers, and it’s been a while since I haven’t been embarrassed to admit I was a Giants fan.

But here we are, with one week in the books; the Giants are unde feated and have a winnable game coming up against Carolina. The vibes are good, people are happy and until Sunday, I wasn’t even sure if joy and hope were even emotions even allowed in the area surrounding MetLife Stadium.

But being a New York Giants fan, even that has seemed to be too big of an ask as of late.

I mean, I’m not naive. I can look at this Giants roster as presently assembled and I’m all but cer tain that this is not some sort of underdog Cinderella playoff team. There’s just not enough talent there—especially at important positions like, you know, quar terback—to fool me into thinking that this team was primed for an improbable run.

But after 10 years of some of the most depressing football I’ve ever watched, I finally have reason to be happy—at least for a while.

excited about football?

On Sept. 11 the New York Giants did something they don’t often do; namely win a season-opening game. That one win has earned the team a heap of goodwill from a beleaguered fanbase. Contributed photo

I’m still wired to be a doubter, however. It’s learned behavior, like I’m some rat in a Skinner box experiment. Root at your own peril, my brain tells me, it’s only going to be worse for you in the longSorun.I’lwatch the Giants this week, ready to flip that switch from “Super Bowl Bound” to whatever “Tank for Tua” slogan gets affixed to desperate teams losing games in order to have a one-week reprieve

As a football fan, I don’t ask for much. Give me a few decent seasons and sprinkle in a playoff push that’s legitimate enough to make things interesting for a few weeks once a decade or so, and I’m a pretty happy guy.

On Sunday, the Giants did something I thought was basical ly impossible. One of the worst Week 1 teams in recent histo ry—the Giants had won just one a season-opener in their last 12 tries—Big Blue actually beat the Titans and had me, dare I say,

A unique event, Rye Neck has been one of only a handful of school districts to recognize the Title IX anni versary this year, something O’Malley said speaks to the strength of the community in general.“I’ma big Rye Neck fan, I have been for 50 years; the school, the administra tion, they recognize women across all sports and it’s what makes it special,” she said. “That’s why I’ve been able to develop lasting friend shipsAthletichere.”Director Joe Ceglia, who said a commit tee began to explore a date for this event as early as last spring, echoed O’Malley’s sentiments and pointed out that the school district has long championed girls in sports.
