For Immediate Release discovered they grew up in neighboring towns in New Jersey, Shapiro in Manalapan, Kleinman in Marlboro. Kleinman’s mother was diagnosed with cancer later that year and six months later, Shapiro’s mother was also diagnosed with cancer. The daughters dealt with their mothers’ illnesses together, Kleinman’s mom died seven months after her diagnosis at age 58. Shapiro’s mom died a month later at 62. After suffering this tragic loss Kleinman and Shapiro decided to team up with a local cancer non-profit to honor their mother’s legacy and that is when they found Gilda’s Club Westchester. are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.

Gilda’s Club Westchester provides individual counseling, support groups, workshops, education and social activities allfree of charge. Their innovative programs are an essential complement to medical care available to those living with a cancer diagnosis, their family and friends, and those who have lost a loved one to cancer.

Gilda’s Club Westchester is sustained through fundraising, grants, private donations, and corporate contributions so they rely on events and major donors to keep their red doors open. To date, the Mah Jongg and Canasta Invitational has raised close to a million dollars.

Shall the Board of Education (the “Board”) of the Harrison Central School District (“District”) be authorized to establish a new capital reserve fund pursuant to Section 3651 of the Education Law of the State of New York, to be known as the “2023 Capital Reserve Fund,” for the purpose of financing, in whole or in part, the cost of authorized alterations, construction and/or reconstruction of District facilities, buildings and/or additions, including related site work, health and safety improvements, handicap accessibility improvements, masonry renovation, plumbing upgrades, electrical upgrades, mechanical upgrades, technology upgrades, telephone upgrades, roof replacement on District buildings, door replacement, window replacement, turf replacement, fencing, including but not limited to paving, curbs and sidewalks, renovation/reconstruction of interior and exterior instructional spaces, abatement of hazardous materials and/or the purchase of furnishings/equipment, in an ultimate amount of $8 million dollars (plus interest earned thereon), having a probable term of ten (10) years and be authorized to raise $8 million dollars to fund such capital reserve fund in the current or future years through various sources including, but not limited to, state aid reimbursement, cost saving measures resulting in unexpended funds or unappropriated fund balance and other legally available funds of the District?

The qualified voters will fill the following vacancies: a. The office of Kelly Mulvoy Mangan, a member of the Board of Education, which term expires on June 30, 2023, for a new term commencing July 1, 2023 and expiring on June 30, 2026. b. The office of Robert C. Sullivan, Jr., a member of the Board of Education, which term expires on June 30, 2023, for a new term commencing July 1, 2023 and expiring on June 30, 2026. c. The office of Melinda (Lindy) Wolverton, a member of the Board of Education, which term expires on June 30, 2023, for a new term commencing July 1, 2023 and expiring on June 30, 2026.

Each vacancy shall be considered a separate and specific office and a separate petition is required to nominate a candidate for each office. The petition shall be directed to the District Clerk, shall be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District, shall state the residence address of each signer, the name and residence address of the candidate, and shall describe the specific vacancy on the Board of Education for which the candidate is nominated which description shall include at least the length of the term of office and the name of the last incumbent, if any. Forms complying with these requirements may be obtained from the Office of the District Clerk, 50 Union Avenue, Harrison, NY between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M., prevailing time, Monday through Friday. Petitions are due not later than on April 17, 2023 at 5:00 P.M.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for Absentee Ballots may be obtained at the Office of the District Clerk, 50 Union Avenue, Harrison, NY. Written requests for absentee ballots must be made at least 7 days and not more than 30 days prior to the Annual School District Meeting, May 16, 2023. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Eastchester Union Free School District, Town of Eastchester, Westchester County, New York, will be held in the Eastchester High School Library in said District on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 7:30PM, prevailing time, for the presentation of the budget document.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Annual District Public Election and Vote of the qualified voters of the Eastchester Union Free School District of the Town of Eastchester, Westchester County, State of New York, will be held on May 16, 2023 between the hours of 6:00AM and 9:00PM, prevailing time, at the following location (PLEASE NOTE: the Board of Education, by resolution dated March 23, 2021, has consolidated Election District #1 and Election District #2 into a single Election District, and, therefore, there will only be one (1) polling location for this election):

Specifically, the law provides a unique procedure for “military ballots” in school district votes. Whereas absentee ballots must be received by the voter by mail, a military voter may elect to receive his/her absentee ballot application and absentee ballot by mail, email or facsimile. If a military voter does not designate a preference, the board of education shall transmit the military ballot application or military ballot by mail.
