Hello,
I am Sanchita Khanal from Kathmandu, Nepal. I am a recent graduate with the bachelors degree in architecture from Tribhuvan University in 2023. I love to explore - anything that interests me, anything that brings out something new in me. My love for creating is immense.
I spent 1.1 years as trainee architect at 2 of the renowned architecture firms in Nepal i.e, ‘A For Architecture’(AFA) led by Ar. Prajal Pradhan and ‘Sustainable Mountain Architecture’(SMA) led by Prof. Anne Feenstra. After my undergraduate thesis, I worked part time in Sustainable Mountain Architecture. Currently, I am junior architect in a design firm called Amar Architects in Kathmandu led by Ar. Amar Gurung.
Recently, I was in the organising team (with SMA) of the first ever symposium about sustainable architecture in the mountains in Nepal called Mountain Architecture Dialogue (MAD). Knowledge sharing and dialogue between architects, urbanists, educators and environmentalists turned out to be a wake up call for us all. The global boiling has already started and the architects, especially young architects should question themselves in their every step, if this is good for the environment, people and animals? as this industry produces largest portion of CO2 and architects can be the biggest change makers.
I come from the country of mighty mountains. From the hot plains of Terai (60 m from sea level) to the Mount Everst (8849 m from sea level), climate change can be seen in our daily lives. The city is drowned with pollution while the rurals are affected by untimely rainfall, flooding, landslides, less snow on the mountains and so on. This has greatly affected the farmers and tourism industry.
I want to do my part as an architect and urban enthusiast in terms of sustainability. I always look for sustainable alternatives in everything and everyday life. For my curiosity and apetite to learn to be responsible for sustainable design, I had joined SMA while I was still studying for my undergraduate degree. I am also a small advocate for sustainability around my life, here and there. Experiencing climate change first hand, I want to absorb everything sustainable as much as I can.
Thank you.
Regards,
Sanchita.
