MY FAVORITE QUOTE

We have a saying in Czech that really stood out to me recently “It’s noisy sprocket that gets oiled” meaning if you’re loud and speak up, you’ll be taken care of. I like the analogy, as I’m often the person that isn’t quiet and I reach out to people with things that I want a lot and sometimes, it crosses my mind if I shouldn’t be a bit “quieter”. I never am though haha.

APRIL

APRIL

It starts with pretty aggressive piano chords and me singing the lyrics "hey heartbreaker nice to meet ya I thought I knew ya well but you turned out to be someone else’ which is so real.." I was ahead of my time with the relationship shit. How did you start out in music? I always wrote songs and was infatuated with music from a really young age because of my dad, he’s a songwriter. When I was 17 I got a macbook and started messing with garageband and youtube type beats & that felt like the real start of expressing myself through music. One of your songs that resonated with my a bit too well is the song ‘The Impossible Task of Feeling Complete’, that talks about the fear of never being enough. The song is from 2020, so, since then, have you found your ‘complete’ self or it’s still in development? Honestly I wonder if I’m even further away from finding myself now. I think I’ve always thought one day I’m gonna figure it all out and love myself 100% and be comfortable, but I never do. But that’s okay, I don’t think anyone does, especially as an artist, being your biggest judge is a given. You released your mixtape STARLANE recently, whose about self-discovery, adventures and figuring out who you are. What where the main obstacles in your journey? I find being myself unapologetically a real struggle. I think I owe most of my insecurity to the internet & the way we live now, constantly comparing myself to others. Sometimes I forget what I really like and enjoy because I’m too caught up in what others are talking about online. It’s a real pain & I think that comes into the journey of self-discovery I'm on - I gotta get over that and focus on myself more (everyone does). How the making of this mixtape changed you as an artist? a bit of a rollercoaster.. At first I was so excited about making music that sounds like this, fun and energetic, then i go through phases of thinking wow this is TOO loud and fun maybe I should be making soft folk indie music and then back to omg this is the best music ever & a constant repeat of those two feelings. It’s made me more comfortable with pop music and experimenting with genres and excites me for changing again. STARLANE comes from the name of the DLR station next to the studio. But what does it represent for you? Magic, change & confusing romantic relationship feelings

lad i didn’t fake it er than i had to”

love this one because it’s about letting go of a past self & ng change & being comfortable & happy with it.

was the song that was the hardest to release on this and why? gs were hard to release, but 'Distraction' was freeing to nd I can’t wait for people to hear it because it’s very l and about myself.

oes the main single ‘54321’ means to you? not really a deeper meaning for '54321', it’s straight & it’s fun. I love the energy in it and the way it’s about over somebody.

song ‘That Feeling’, you say ‘Just tryna run into somethin’ s me that feeling’ . What gives you That Feeling? e, falling in love & the excitement of new relationships

dvice would the April from ‘STARLANE’ would give to il of ‘When It Comes To You’? the same April, just sonically a little more advanced in ANE. If I can give my future/present self some advice it’s unapologetic and stop caring about negative opinions & yourself back from enjoying life & music.

but i’m glad i didn’t fake it any longer than i had to” I really love this one because it’s about letting go of a past self & accepting change & being comfortable & happy with it. What was the song that was the hardest to release on this mixtape and why? No songs were hard to release, but 'Distraction' was freeing to write and I can’t wait for people to hear it because it’s very personal and about myself. What does the main single ‘54321’ means to you? There’s not really a deeper meaning for '54321', it’s straight forward & it’s fun. I love the energy in it and the way it’s about getting over somebody. In the song ‘That Feeling’, you say ‘Just tryna run into somethin’ that gives me that feeling’ . What gives you That Feeling? Romance, falling in love & the excitement of new relationships What advice would the April from ‘STARLANE’ would give to the April of ‘When It Comes To You’? They’re the same April, just sonically a little more advanced in STARLANE. If I can give my future/present self some advice it’s be more unapologetic and stop caring about negative opinions & holding yourself back from enjoying life & music.

What’s your relationship with music and how would you describe your music style? I’m a self-taught musician. I took one guitar class for a few months when I was in middle school but thats it. My family is full of musicians and when my brother and I got grounded, we would have to play guitar scales in our room HA. I was OBSESSED with watching music videos as a kid, and 100% believe that going to film school was the puzzle piece I needed to put my brain fully together. I didn’t start writing until 2018 (after film school) - thats when it kind of clicked. I wrote “Manic” and it was the first song I really believed in. And I was like “wow, I could do EVERYTHING I love to do for MY OWN project?!” and I finally felt like I found my “thing” after a couple years of being completely lost, to be honest. Sounds cheesy but music pulled me out of a huge rut. The videos keep my ADHD constantly busy and the music is the therapy I can’t afford. What is your writing process? My writing process when writing for myself is all over the place, but USUALLY starts with a small chord progression and a catchy chorus melody/lyrics. Once I’m happy with the chorus idea, I build out the verses, usually with my producer (and boyfriend!!! Hehe) Joel Ferber. I show him whatever song(s) I’ve been obsessed with so that we can pick a direction to go in sonically. Who are your inspirations? Indigo De Souza, Balance and Composure, Billie Eilish, and Nirvana are the first ones that come to mind. Pop punk bands were the first bands I was obsessed with and really started paying attention to, so I think naturally I pull from pop punk melodies from bands like Tigers Jaw, Third Eye Blind, Blink 182, etc. It’s in my blood at this point. What’s your favorite song of yours? My favorite song of mine thats out is probably Cherry. It has such a nostalgic 90’s-alt sound to it and I love the chorus melody so much! *Fun Fact* We actually wrote that for a Renforshort pitch, and when her team didn’t respond I was like “GOOD, ITS MINE!!” What can you tell us about your single « Cherry » ? Cherry is supposed to be my “higher self”. She’s this girl that seems to have it all and I want to find my way back to being her. This song is a nod to the artist struggle of finding comfort in depression. Sometimes you think you’ll have nothing to say/write about when you’re NOT sad and it’s true that a lot of art comes from pain. So Cherry also wants to be ME - the one feeling the lows. At the base of it - this song is about feeling disconnected from a part of yourself. The video is supposed to give you the idea that I’m kind of “stalking” myself and obsessively watching her because I think she’s amazing. What can you tell us about your upcoming EP « I’ll Show Myself Out » ? My upcoming EP will include the three singles I’ve already released, (Ant Hills, I’ll Show Myself Out, and Cherry) plus 4 more. It was written pretty fast actually, because I had just moved out of an intense living situation and was completely alone for the first time in a really long time. I had a strange falling out with a few people that I thought would be in my life forever, and a LOT of feelings about it/myself came from that. It’s called “Out Of Orbit” and it focuses on the realization that I needed to outgrow a lot of things in my life, and how painful but ultimately rewarding that was. The idea is that I spun out of control (orbit) but I found happiness and freedom there.

really just a huge list of artists and songs that shape my sound or inspire the heck out of me. You’ll understand me more if you listen.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG

“The things you own end up owning you. It's only after you lose everything that you're free to do anything.” -CP

MY FAVORITE ARTIST

Kurt Cobain - he was an advocate for women (especially in the industry), for people of color, for the LGBTQ community. A pisces, amazing writer, and also a visual artist. You will find plenty of Nirvana homage throughout my music and this EP!

and layers of textures, maximalism undercut with melancholy. Like strawberries piders. It’s about peeling back the layers of identity that I’d constructed around what it meant to be me, what it meant to be in love, what it meant to be desirable, meant to be hurt - and unpicking all the things I’d collaged on from external It’s about poking the wound because that’s where you find out where the real

your favorite song on the EP and why? What is it about ? ick a favourite song because they’re like my babies. I love them all. Milk Teeth was one I wrote and represents a time in my life where I was working through some issues that I had, until then, rigidly buried, so it was a pivotal turning point in my towards self discovery and self acceptance.

d/or what were your inspirations growing up? And Who and/or what are your ions now? t song I remember being obsessed with was Peggy Lee’s ‘Fever’. As a kid I loved ure pop stuff - Bewitched, Christina Aguilera, Britney etc. I’d get Smash Hits and posters on my wall. Then in my teens I migrated over to indie and became d with The Strokes and The Libertines and all those ‘The’ bands full of shaggyakish boys.

y inspirations are kind of, everything? I love how the internet has created this dimension of content from literally the beginning of time until now, ready at our ps. Sonically, visually, aesthetically, everything is available to mine for inspiration. ally though, the EP was sonically inspired by MUNA, Perfume Genius, Robyn, Van Etten and the soundtrack to Twin Peaks.

w up surrounded by music, was it logical for you to follow that way and become yourself? r logical to become a singer lol? I actually wanted to be an actor growing up, and railed against going into music precisely because it seemed so obvious. But at oint I realised I was kidding myself. It’s in my blood it’s who I am, if I didn’t do it hollow.

find myself listening to on repeat on there. August highlights were SiR, LIFE, Dijon, Lala &ce, Joesef, Phoebe Green, Kendrick Lamar, Okay Kaya, Mauvey, PVA and a throwback to Cher’s ‘Believe’.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG

Literally impossible to pick one. But firm top choices are OMD’s ‘Enola Gay’ and The Flamingos ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’. I also think Kae Tempest’s ‘Grace’ is heavenly.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE AND TV SHOW

Twin Peaks. I’ve also just watched It’s A Sin which I adored. I don’t really have a favourite movie, it changes depending on my mood. I’ve been ill and in bed for the last few days and have basically just watched period dramas because they’re so comforting and autumnal.

How did this passion for acting come to you? I think I was born with it. Before I knew what performing was I was doing it - wherever it was telling a joke or dancing and singing in front of my family. But then I had the opportunity to visit my aunt on set and realized this was what I wanted to do! Do you have other passions that you’d like to do as a career like acting? I love so many aspects of the filming. If I am not acting I want to work in the industry. I am currently a junior in high school and looking at colleges with film and television majors. You had your first big role in "hot pursuit" in 2015. What was it like? It was amazing. I had been on set before and even had visited Hot Pursuit’s set before getting the opportunity to play my Aunt Reese as a child. I was only on set for 1 day but had the opportunity to work with Anne Fletcher. The next day I went back to set before my flight just to watch them film. What is your go-to ritual before filming or auditioning, when you’re feeling nervous? Typically the timeline from getting an audition to submitting it is very short. I usually get the email while at school and try to read it right away. Then I work on creating the character. As far as rituals, sometimes I’ll drink hot tea and get into character by doing makeup and choosing an outfit. You are starring as one of the leads in Jerry Bruckheimer and Paramount+’s Secret Headquarters. Can you tell us more about the show and your role in it? I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say I hope everyone loves Lizzie. I had such a fun time playing a strong female role who is always true to herself. The movie is about a group of kids who end up figuring out one of their dads is a superhero. It’s an exciting and action-packed movie that everyone will love!! You will star opposite Mel Gibson, Lorraine Bracco, and Nora Zehener in Boys of Summer. Can you tell us more about that? Boys of Summer is completely different from SHQ! We filmed in North Carolina last winter. It is a thriller and is a little scary. When I read the script I knew I wanted to book the role of Sammy a smart witty girl. I have been so lucky to work with such talented actors at the beginning of my career. I hope to have more I can share soon! Do you have other projects you’d like to talk with us about? Currently, I am in the middle of a few auditions and hope to have new news to share soon!!! My dream role is a coming-of-age film.

ssing for me. I'm very reserved when it comes to telling people about myself, so it's unnerving ut it all on a platter for the world to see. But I'm also very proud of myself for it.

most of us were sitting on our couches you and your partner were making films, what about ine made you decide now was the time to make these films? he first part of quarantine to edit Clairevoyant, my previous film. After that, I took a couple off. I spent this time stretching, trying to accomplish my life-long dreams of being able to do dle splits (I failed), and watching educational Youtube videos. To be honest, I felt like I was time even before the pandemic hit, so it only amplified those feelings. But my ennui was a in disguise. At one point, on one of our long walks outside, I told Arthur (the director and my , "I don't think you realize this, but you're gonna be making a movie in a month from now." It retty easy sell, considering he didn't have anything else going on! But seriously, I'm really he got on board because I couldn't have done it alone.

ould you most like to collaborate with on a film in the future? love to work with Emma Seligman and Rachel Sennott, which actually doesn't feel like an bility. I think they're both incredibly talented and it's nice to see like-minded young women e making movies.

ould adapt any other book into a film, what would it be? read self-help and psychology books (go figure) so I don't feel equipped to answer. But the ws is, I have so many film ideas right now! My partner Arthur and I made something called enu" which is over 20 loglines of all our ideas. If you're going to visit Arizona, est sticking to Flagstaff or Sedona.

you rather have 1 roundtrip ticket to the past or to the future? uch a cool question! I want to choose the past; I feel more connected to those people because our ancestors. Traveling to the future feels more intimidating and unknown. But honestly I t turn down either.

normal kid and also get to do what I love. This mainly stems from being able to step outside myself when things get difficult or stressful and can look at my life and be thankful for what I have. You started with school plays at a young age, did you know back at that time that your school hobby will lead to the career you have now? Not, at the time when I started with those plays I just saw it as a fun thing to do with my brother (and a way to avoid playing sports) and I had no idea it would end up directing my life in the way it has. Did you always know that your life would be about the acting and film industry? I remember from a young age always having the desire to be on TV and so when I had the opportunity to do that it was a dream come true. If you didn't become an actor, what would you do in life? I can't think of much else I would want to do, but If I couldn't be an actor and if I couldn't be in this industry I think I could make a pretty kick-ass lawyer. What advice were you given when starting your show-business lifestyle? And what advice would you give to someone who wants to start acting now? Much of the advice you hear throughout your whole career is all about understanding how slow and discouraging this business can be but as much as you think you're going to be the exception, this industry is going to test your perseverance. Besides acting, what do you enjoy doing? Outside of acting most of my time is dedicated to school, but when I'm not doing either of those things I'm usually with my little brother showing him the best movies and tv shows. Can you tell us more about your character Anthony on Cobra Kai and what we can expect for season 5? I think in season 5 we see Anthony grow as a person and mature into who he wants to be. We see that he feels bad for what he did to Kenny and wants to fix their relationship. We also see him grow his relationship with his sister and through her, he finally finds himself in the karate world and finds his people. SOCIALand IMAGE LAEmma in the movie "The Sitters Club", where LOCATION: she plays Stacey, plays Present". Down to earth and also humble. Passionate by the whole film industry, she knows what she wants and doesn’t hesitate to touch everything. She is also the co-host of the "Smart Girl's Podcast" where she talks about numerous subjects that are dear to her heart. We cannot wait to see where she is headed.

somebody that you can look up to"

KILLSTAR | Pyrrha | Rat Betty

how important it is to have somebody that you can look up to, that’s bringing light to topics that are really important to you. I definitely have people that I look up to in the same way so I definitely feel that extra importance of talking about things that I really care about and I just hope I’m doing a decent job. You play Stacey on The Baby-Sitters Club. What has been your favorite part of working on this show and what can you tell us about it? I think one of my favorite parts was the friends I made through filming. The other girls in the show were just absolutely incredible. And honestly, just all the women that were backing that show made the working environments so fun and it was really the first time that I kind of realized how important that show could be to people, we were just talking about it with my followers, they really felt the impact of "The Baby-Sitters Club", and it really means so much to them. I just guess I didn’t realize right at 13 when I booked that role, how important it was going to be to so many people, but I realized that now and I’m just so grateful for everything that this show has brought to me and all the experiences that I’ve gained and all the people that I’ve reached because of it. And I think, honestly, every second of filming and every second of hearing people that love the show is so important to me and I will literally cherish it forever. It was the best experience I’ve ever had!

What is your go-to ritual before filming if you’re feeling a little bit nervous? That's a really good question! Especially on "The Baby-Sitters Club", I had crystals with me and sometimes I would even put them in my character’s costume pocket If I was feeling really really nervous. And it was more just the act of being able to have like a fidget toy. It brought me a lot of comforts. I was telling myself that I was going to be okay, no matter what, a lot of affirmations. Also, my mom was always on set with me so talking things out with her always really helps. And if I have friends on set like on "The Baby-Sitters Club", I turn to them and talk to them, and a lot of time they’d be feeling a lot of similar stress and anxiety so it was just nice to know that I wasn’t the only one the majority of the time. So talking things out and reminding myself that it would be okay no matter what. You are the co-host of the podcast "Smart Girl's podcast". Can you tell us more about it? So it's based on the American Girl books called "The Smart Girl's guides", which basically are just advice for every little different part of a teen girl’s life. And so we cover topics like mental health, friendships, school, crushes and body image confidence, and so much more. The heart of the show is that we're trying to have honest, truthful, real conversations about these topics and not wrapping it up with a perfect bow, giving this solid piece of advice like you have to do this and then everything will be okay because that's not how life works. So we are really focusing on giving girls the tools to assess their own situations and figure out what's best for them. Because one piece of advice isn't going to fit every single person's life. So we really focus on just bringing light to these topics and I share my personal experiences with a lot of them. My co-host Jess Weiner also shares her personal experiences with them. And it's really just focusing on bringing these topics to the front of these conversations so these girls can really think about them in a new way.

work that you do, in order to keep pushing and don't give up."

ustry, or at least I knew that I was interested in doing this, when I was 7. And a lot of my life at point was focused on acting and trying to take classes, or working on short films to try to get industry. I took a lot of acting classes during that time, which I think it really really benefited that’s something I still do. Before this, I was interested in sports, I loved reading, which I still do, reading harry potter…

d your love for acting come up to you? ad the Harry Potter books when I was younger, I was absolutely obsessed with them, and I er I finished the first one and immediately I got the DVD, I put it on our DVD player and I the movie. I was so obsessed with the way that these words were written on the page and you magine the characters yourself, then it was showing right in front of you. The movie was about ut this is what was really magical to me, the way you were able to see the characters and their and the magic come to life. I loved reading and I loved being able to imagine myself but I really atching other people put it on and see exactly what I just read. According to my mom, I said to want to be an actress, make it happen ».

r parents support you in this decision of becoming an actress? ents never encourage me to do this, it was always my decision from the start but they have been incredibly supportive of me, and I’m really grateful for that. My family moved to Los with me and I would not be here without them, and I’m so thankful for their support.

remember your first audition? Are you still nervous while doing auditions? or 8 years old when I did my first audition, and it was for a blackberry commercial, it was like ha. I completely messed up, I did not understand what they wanted me to do and what they ying about how to type on the blackberry. I just remember it was an absolute bum and I got so . Thankfully I didn’t stop there and that did not discourage me from continuing auditions. And olutely, I still get nervous. I don’t know anyone who could go to an audition room and don’t get . Especially if you care so much about the project and the character, and you work so hard on erpretation of it. You enter a room full of people who have only seen other people do the exact ing all day and you need to make your impression of it, it’s definitely super nerve raking. But lly, I get a lot of joy out of it and that’s why I’m still pushing and still auditioning.

played Kate on « Everything Sucks » and Betty on « Grey’s Anatomy », two really different ow did you prepare for these roles and what was your experience working on these two

erything Sucks », I was 13 when we filmed it. It was such an important character for me to be play, a young queer woman. It felt like a very monumental talk for me because I know there was pressure that I put on myself, and I knew how important this was going to be for so many I prepared for that really really carefully because this is a careful subject and I wanted to play h as much honesty and truth as possible. It was definitely my guiding line throughout it. g how important it was to me and others was definitely the best part of that experience. The was incredible and I’m still sad that we’ve only got one season. I know my fellow cast members because we had such an incredible experience filming and we’re all grateful for that, even if it y for one season.

tried to guide my performance with that, because, once again, it was a touchy subject. I think it’s really important to play it with love and honesty for those people. Talking with Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia, was also super helpful for me in preparing for it, because she also had to play someone who had been affected by addiction. I looked up to her immediately, she’s such an important person to me, she was definitely really helpful and I learned a lot from talking with her which was great. The experience on « Grey’s Anatomy » was incredible. I was super nervous going into it because I walked in on the 14th season and the show had been going on for so long. I think it premiered the year after I was born. These people had been there for so long and it’s their entire life. I was terrified but it was such a welcoming environment, every cast member was so incredibly kind to me and I’m so grateful for my time in that show. Would you like to return to that show one day? I would love to! I’m so open to returning. My phone is waiting for them to call haha and I think it would be wonderful to have Betty come back and see what she’s been up to years later. I personally would love an update on what she’s doing and I know fans would love to, I got people saying this to me every day, so yes I’d be totally up to that! Can you tell us a bit about the movie « Pruning »? In May, Lola Blanc, who’s the creator, writer, and director of « Pruning », reached out to me. She said that she loved my performance in other horror stuff that I’ve done and was super interested in having me for this role in her short film. I immediately stopped what I was doing, read the script, and absolutely loved it! Then Lola and I had a zoom meeting where we talked about the script and her vision for it. It’s super secret right now because just a few articles came out about it but I’m super excited about the project, we filmed it a few months ago. It was my first time being back on set since the pandemic, so it was really important for me. It was such an incredible experience, I love working on projects that you can tell are so close to the hearts of the people that are working on it. This was a small production and everyone there really wanted to be there and make the best project possible, and that’s just an incredible environment to be around. What is your favorite role you’ve played? I think definitely Kate on « Everything Sucks ». This is the role I’m the proudest of. Her story is something that’s so important and Kate means so much to me as a character. So many people connected with her and followed her journey, it makes it something that I certainly am so proud of. She was by far my favorite character, I really, truly fell in love with her, I loved embodying her.

What have you learned about yourself since you started acting? Ooh, that’s a good question. This industry is definitely super tough, you hear so many more NOs than YESs. « Pruning » was the first thing I worked on since the pandemic, I auditioned over the pandemic and I didn’t end up working on anything. Obviously, that’s super tough, you put so much of yourself doing the auditions, whether being there in person or self-tape or at home. I’m not sure everybody could do it, not everybody could take the NOs so many times. I don’t blame them, you have to love this industry and the work that you want to do, in order to keep pushing. And I’m really proud of myself for that and what I’ve learned about myself, that my love for the industry, for movies and television and telling stories, is so strong that it’s something I can rely on. I’m still doing this even after all those rejections. What’s a show or movie you’d love to play in? I really really love History. I’m a huge History nerd and I love learning about it. Analyzing it might be super important, especially in the landscape that we are in today. STEPHEN MANAS

quickly realized that it wasn’t meant for me. Then I made the decision to put myself 100% into acting, creation and the artist world. The thing is, I haven’t done any school or training for acting. I did of course many short movies but I clearly saw that my skills were too low and I needed to improve them. The problem was that acting schools are private and expensive, my english wasn’t that great either, so I had an idea. I don’t read much to be honest haha but one little thing that I remember from French lessons at school, from the French philosophers “Les Lumieres”, is that they all concur on the fact that travels train your mind and will teach you better than any school. I needed more life experiences to use them as an actor. So, after a quick marketing research/ Which country speaks English, have a great market for movies and is cheap to survive…. India! So I went there, at first it was supposed to be for 3 months but in the end I stayed for 2 years. I have really boosted my English, they were extremely welcoming and I have played in many things. Of course, it is a different kind of “standard” or “quality” than Hollywood with all due respect for India but still, I could practice, improve, live personal life, experience and I am very glad I did it! Then back to France, I was struggling a lot on the french market, and I have done a short movie in English, Out of Frame, by Artem Gutowski, a young talented Russian director who was studying in France. And we got so many awards, like 20 all in USA, Los Angeles Film Awards, New York Access etc .. best movie director, actor (myself) etc … I was very happy, and thanks to this success I have been invited to Cannes Film Festival. And over there I met my someone, told him I was struggling on the french market and he told me to try Hollywood, my profile could interest the American Market. I remember telling him, I am not good enough for the French market, so Hollywood… He told me he just created his agency, only with international talent, and could propose my profile to big American projects. I said , lets try then, I got nothing to lose… and a month after I got my first casting for an Apple TV project, shooting in London… You are from France, just like SATURNE, can you tell us your favorite things about this country of ours? My favorite things… hmm, Politics no, Administrations no, Taxi no, ... haha. In France, I really love the country side, it's beautiful to cross the small villages. I follow LE TOUR DE FRANCE, it's a cycling competition. Just for this, how beautiful is this country in the inside. People think only about Paris when they say France but it is really not just Paris trust me. All the gastronomy, the “rituals” of food / aperitifs they all differ with the regions I really love this.

e director on a project and composing myself the original score of the I really fulfill myself as an actor, it is my number one priority for now but ne day I will have the opportunity to do more “I BELIEVE” haha.

name. The show is centered around a Chinese American woman, Nicky Shen, who has been bred since birth to do "all the right things in life", abruptly leaves college and decides to live the life of a Shaolin monk at an isolated monastery. When her mentor is murdered, she makes her way back to her home in San Francisco, California and puts her Martial Arts skills to good use in protecting her city, all while dealing with the family she left behind, as well as searching for her shifu's killer. My character, Sebastian, is the sous chef and #2 at her mother, Mei-Li's restaurant as well as Ryan, her brother's, paramour. Season 3 brings a lot of changes since last season's earthquake, and sends new challenges Sebastian's way in the form of moving in with Ryan and also the new corporate partner at the restaurant, Harmony Dumplings. From computer engineer to actor on a martial series, how did that happen? Not too different from many other Asian-American actors in Hollywood. Lots in the community abandoned their day jobs to pursue this childhood dream. For me, I was always artistic. As a child that manifested in the form of singing and sketching. It wasn't until a few years into working as an engineer that I started acting. What began as acting classes in the Washington DC area, evolved into doing theater as a night gig. The passion for it grew quite rapidly and my father, who was terminally ill at the time, gave me his blessing to pursue it as a career. That really lifted a huge burden off the shoulders of a kid who wanted to make their parents proud. After he passed away in 2011, I took a couple years off and then made my way to Los Angeles. And the rest is a pretty classic actor's hustle journey. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a film or a series in the future? Oscar Isaac or Benedict Wong. Those two are at the top of their game right now. Acting opposite Viola Davis is also a dream of mine. If you could adapt any book into a film, what would it be? There is this fantastic series called "The Emperor's Blades" by Brian Stavely which is this epic Asian fantasy story, that I know is in the works somewhere and I honestly cannot wait for it to be brought to life. It's such a rich plot with really great characters and will do incredibly well as a live action series. What is your favorite thing about your hometown and what is the one place someone should visit if they go there? Fairfax, Virginia is a pretty wholesome place to grow up with all types of historical attractions and fun outdoor activities. A suburban utopia of sorts. If you're a nerd like me, you would absolutely love the National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy center. Would you rather have 1 roundtrip ticket to the past or to the future? This is a tough question for those who try to be present and not worry too much about the past or future. I think I'm afraid to see what the future holds because let's be honest, our news cycles haven't been the most uplifting recently. My vote would be to see my loved ones who have passed just one more time. Where can our readers find you on socials? You can find me @jaybeetadena on IG and Twitter, appreciate the love.
