our favorite actor, and for people who may not know him ; I hope that you'll like to discover piring talent! ---

NE MAGAZINE : What made you want to become an actor?

N RUBINSTEIN : My journey with acting is kind of intense. In High School I was in a different past. I was up to no good and I was definitely involved in pretty bad things. You know, skipping doing drugs, fighting… Just not good things. My guidance counselor, during my junior year of chool, she was an incredible woman. She suggested that, maybe I should get involved in that it might be good for me. It was maybe something that would get me away from all the bad es, and keep me in school, and keep me motivated. Because you know, I think, kids sort of lack ons and then they get involved with other things that they think are cooler. got involved in theater I was hooked immediately. It keeped me in school hours after it was d it had people that helped me accountable for the first time in my life. And It taught me a dous discipline. Something that I sort of cherish to this day. And from that moment on, I did t play in High School and I was cooked. I did everything in my power to pursue it onnaly. mmer, I found my first manager, by some miracle. I did my first movie. By the time I was 18, I first movie that was premiering at Sundance festival and I was the lead character. From that , I was thrown into the industry. It was crazy because I was so young and I had no idea what I ng, what the industry is and it was scary, overwhelming and it forced me to grow up, really uick. Because I was still very much a kid in a very grown up industry. But I’m so grateful. you remember your first audition?

s I do! My first audition ever was a Nike Commercial, it was for a basketball scene. And I've basketball my whole life so I felt very confortable. I actually ended up getting the commercial, can still look it up on YouTube, to this day! And the crazy thing about this, it premiered during er Bowl , so, again, everything just happened suddenly. I remember watching the Super Bowl friends and I was on screen for literally less than a second and we were all freaking out ! And membered that feeling of like ‘this is really crazy’. That was my first audition so I was like ‘Oh s is going well !’ And then reality hits and it’s actually really hard to get a gig.

o you have a go-to ritual that you do before an audition or filming, when you're feeling ?

er time, I’ve gotten less and less nervous. I think it just comes with confidence. You, know ; I’m able in my own skin and with my own choices that I bring to this thing that we call acting. ow, I’ve always sort of had like a mantra. I’m gonna go in there and do the absolute best that I can do. This is my sort of idea that I think my character is, I’m gonna give a 150% for it , and if s don’t like it, I totally understand. I’ve been doing this for over ten years now and a lot of as to fall together in order for me to get the job. -

home. But trust me, when I didn’t had that and I needed a job, for financial reasons it was very stressful and scary and the anxiety builds up more when you’re in this position. And I do not miss that at all! That was really tough. Especially , I was auditioning in NYC. In New-York, the elements are against you. You’re going to an audition during a winter storm, or a massive heatwave. By the time you go to the audition you’re absolutely exhausted. You’re either pouring sweat or freezing your ass off. I always say , if you wanna see if you’ll make it as an actor, go audition in New-York for a year and tell me if you still love it. That was tough. But nowadays , it is what it is. If I get it, great, if I don’t, onto the next. SM : You play T.K Strand in the show ‘9-1-1 Lone star’ can you tell us the process of being cast in the show?

RR : The more I learn about it, the crazier it is. I’ve actually become close friends with our casting director and he told me from the moment I walked in, he knew that I was T. K. And when I left the room he told his assistant : ‘That’s the kid.’ So that was my very first audition. And then, once all the ‘big guys’ saw my tape, they were immediately like ‘We need to test this kid.’ Then again, I found out that the test was only for me. I dind’t audition against any other actors. So they were extremely confident knowing that I’m probably T.K. Strand. Two days after I got a phone call, and they wanted to do a chemistry read with me and Rob Lowe. It all happened really fast and really intensely. My chemistry read with him felt like I knew the guy my whole life. That went extremely well. And I was cast a few days later. Me and Rob were the first one cast for weeks. We didn’t have anybody else on the show for weeks. We were waiting to see who might be on the show. There was this weird limbo where I got the job but I don’t know what’s gonna happen next. Once we heard about Liv Tyler, it was gonna be big. Just hearing that the executives had so much confidence in me , it was a very special moment. SM : How did you prepare for the role? RR : My initial audition was the very first episode where I talk to my dad about how I was gonna propose to this man who I thought was the love of my life and I was ready to give my life for him. And not only he dumped me but he revealed that he actually cheated on me. And he was a recovering addict so he chose to overdose on purpose. With chances of actually ending his life. So all of that put into one scene. And it was my first audition so I prepared my ass off and I just made sure I did all the work so when I got into that room, I felt extremely confortable with everything that could’ve happened. I think I prefer high stakes, especially as an actor, so I’m very grateful that the first things was actually so intense. Super difficult but I feel like if you can nail that scene, you can nail anything. So yeah, they threw me into the fire immediately. SM : Your character T.K. dates Carlos. This couple has become a huge reference in the LGBTQ+ community, how does it feel? Do you feel ‘pressure’ representing the community? RR : I’ve never thought of that from that perspective. I’ve always looked at it like a massive responsibility but also a massive honor, and that’s something I hold on to. The fact that we can be the face of the example of a relation on screen, for network television, most importantly. We’ve seen these relationships on cable and streaming and film. But we’ve never seen an interracial gay, first responder couple maybe ever and especially on network television. That’s pushing the boundaries. Also with somebody like Ryan Murphy, creating these characters, you know that there is a massive responsibility to honor these characters authentically and to make them really beautiful and really human. -

m that perspective.

hat can we expect in season four?

his season is incredible. Just when you think you’ve done it all, they come up with insane . I can only speak for myself but there is a lot of stuff that we’re gonna see for T.K. that we’ve en before. We’re gonna see how T.K. handles stress and anxiety from a different level. Usually T.K. either getting hurt or suffering heartbreak , nearly dying. But now we’re gonna see what s to T.K. when people he loves are in trouble. Both emotionally and physically, very much ly as well. There’s a lot of beautiful stuff we’re gonna explore with T.K. and Owen, which have been craving and I think they missed that last season. We’ll see how Owen handles his ut to get married and that dynamic is very interesting. We’re gonna see what it’s like between nd T.K. going through wedding planning and the big wedding, whenever that is. I think It’s vealed that Carlos might be getting hurt this season, we don’t know how or when or what, onna see how T.K. handles that. Because usually it’s the other way around. The roles have There’s a specific episode that I’m super proud of . And I know our show runner loves it, so er excited. I can’t tell which one is it, because I get in trouble but , yeah, you guys will know. hooting the other half of the season. Again, brand new stuff for T.K. to reveal and for me to at’s just personal stuff, obviously we have crazy actions, the rescues are always insane and s , emotional and dramatic. It’s everything we know the show to be, but again, elevated and nd all the praise goes to the writers, to continuously being able to accomplish, it’s really .

yan Murphy is one of the producer, I know you've worked with him on ‘American Horror Would you like to work with him again? If you could chose a project from him, what would it

he whole world is really gravitating towards his limited series, the one I really liked was n’. His series really shows the pure genius of Ryan Murphy. I would just love to work with Ryan hing , but specifically, the limited series. Ryan has been a huge support for me. I can call him a nd he’s just been incredible. Career-wise and personally. He’s always been there for me. I go to advice, wether it’s personal or career-wise. He’s just an incredible human-being. We know him genius artist but, on a personal level, he’s such a beautiful person. I’m very fortunate to know e of him. Like, whatever he has in mind, I would be down. Whatever.

u’ve done a lot of movies, and now you work on a tv show since 2020. What would be for you n difference working for these two types of media. And what would you prefer?

th movies we have beginning, middle, end. You usually want to tell a story within a two hours me. With television it’s usually ten hours or eighteen hours for a show. Which makes them t. And extend a character’s story time. In a movie, you only have eight minutes to do that. I ere’s something beautiful to squeeze that into a smaller time-frame, and there’s also something l about taking your time with expanding it. You get to really grow with your character. In terms es, I’ve done mainly independent films, so I can only speak from that perspective, I cannot what these massive budget films are like. think it’s really exciting and you have to be on your u really have to just go for it. You don’t have the luxury of a lot of time. There’s something l about it, it brings you back when you first started, there’s something really raw about that. I t. I love chaotic scenes and chaotic characters. -

have to focus on the story you’re trying to tell because you have less time to do it. I love both very much. I’d love to do films. But then again, television nowadays is on an all-time high, it’s very much the golden era of television. If something amazing goes my way that’s TV related, obviously I’m not gonna say no, but I would love to do a movie. Especially because with film, there’s the whole process of when the movie goes out. I’ve been very fortunate to go to very large Film Festivals and had that experience. There’s nothing going to a film festival with a movie that, not only do people really love and are excited about but the people you get to meet and the environment… You don’t get that with television. With television it premieres on TV and that’s it. I just love the experience of sitting in a movie theater. It’s different but I really love both. SM : Do you have other passions besides acting?

RR : I make music. I have a band called ‘Night In Stereo’ and we have two songs out, they’ve done very well, by some miracles ! People seems to really love it. it’s sort of the Alternative-Rock genre that I grew up on, like ‘Kings of Leons’, ‘Silver Chair’ ‘Nirvana’… all sorts of bands that my bandmates and I grew up on. I feel like that music is not being made anymore, which is kinda sad. So we were like ‘hey, why don’t we make it !’ And people seems to really love it. I write the lyrics and I sing so, from that perspective, writing the lyrics is very much telling the story. It’s something I really enjoy. Sometimes I just have lyrics pop into my head and I hear something and I quickly writes them down or put them on my iPhone. It’s cool, it’s kinda telling a story through music. It’s my first love, I’ve been listening music since I can remember . I’m listening to music most of the day, so it makes sense I’m going into that direction. And my bandmates are like my brothers and we get to do music together and people actually love it so, we’re gonna keep making and releasing music. The biggest goal is to play live one day. I think one of our biggest dream is to play in France, I, for some reason have an incredible Fanbase in France and I think playing in Paris would be the ultimate dream come true. That’s something we’ve been really excited about. We have a third song coming soon. That’s been really interesting to dive into that because that’s so different than acting and the film and television industry. That’s something I’ve been interested about, that’s for sure. SM : What show or movie would you like to be in, past or present? RR : A lot of people are going to be shocked about this. I’m watching ‘Games Of Thrones’ right now for the very first time. I think we’ve binged seven seasons in like, two weeks. My wife and I are obsessed. Watching ‘Game of Thrones’ , every single time I’m like ‘Oh my God, this must’ve been a dream to do’. A show like ‘Games Of Thrones’, especially on that scale , there’s almost no limitation on that show and it looks and feels absolutely impeccable. I really want to get down and dirty, get freezing cold, sword fighting… So yeah, a show like Game Of Thrones would be incredible. SM : Would you have advice to give to people who love acting and want to make a career of it ? RR : My biggest thing is to figure out what material you really love and study the craft. And then, the biggest thing is to find representation. I got involved in this industry almost ten years ago so I don’t know what the path is nowadays to find representation, especially with Covid, I’m sure it has been difficult. I think finding representation and really figuring out what kind of material you love, and learning about the craft, learning about the industry, what we do… it’s important.

HAIR STYLING BY CAROLINA YASUKAWA MAKEUP BY DONGYOON JULIE KAHNG actress. During this conversation we've talked about "Grey's Anatomy", her new movie "My LOCATION: LA LUZ STUDIO Southern Family Christmas" and PHOTO more... She also gave us precious advice for people who may want to follow her path and become an actor/comedian. I hope that you'll like to read this interview as much as I liked doing it.

like to do something about real people. Something where we laugh every day, where we do things that are funny."

I studied in Paris and then I moved to L.A. I moved because I wanted to travel, to South and I had a friend who lived in L.A. and she told me that I could work for her, to make some and then travel. I came in February 2015, I worked and I quickly spent the money I made, it's expensive to live in LA ! So I stayed, and one thing led to another, I started taking one d then a second class and I was in a drama program for two years, and at the end of the m I got Grey's Anatomy. Now I've been here for almost eight years. And now I've built a whole I'm here.

hat made you want to become an actress? Was it a passion since childhood? What is your with acting?

my head, I didn't want to be an actress, I went to the Cours Florent in Paris and did a lot of when I was little. In Grenoble, they have an international theatre company. In Grenoble, I was uropole, for expatriates. They had an intense theater program where you could do theater and sses but it was justified because it was part of the school. It was an almost semi-professional nce. I did that when I was a kid. I started when I was fifteen and I continued until I graduated. d me to go to the Cours Florent in Paris and therefore, when I left Paris, in my head, I didn't anned to become an actress in L.A., especially since it's so far from Grenoble! I had just really p with the idea of working in LA. I never lived in the States, my father is American, and I never experience of being here. I have family in LA and it seemed like a pretty simple transition. w that I'm an actress and regularly working, I think somewhere deep down I must have had the going for it, but I think it was too scary. you remember your first audition?

as fifteen years old and it was for the role of a man who is a bit slow, and nobody wanted to do because there were no lines. I came in and gave a very physical performance, which made a lot e laugh. It was my first theater audition ; I remember it because it was the first time I realized uld make people laugh and that I liked theater. After that, for "Grey's Anatomy", it was my first dition. They had been looking for the role of Tamyn for a long time and they couldn't find they all agreed on. I got an audition and I showed up an hour and a half later because I was L.A.! By the time I got there, I was in tears, I couldn't breathe... I was so exhausted from crying I was sure I missed an opportunity. By the time I got to the audition, I was relaxed and it went

oned on a Wednesday, and the role was due to start on Thursday. I didn't hear anything about it end, and I thought it was dead. They called me back in the middle of dinner to tell me the uring the audition, I spoke French at one point and it gave them the opportunity to develop , which they really appreciated. They told me that they had hundreds of people auditioning e, but they were sure that the role was for me. I was so surprised that on the phone I laughed ly, and I think I had a small blackout... it was a Hollywood moment for me! you have a go-to ritual when you’re feeling nervous before an audition or filming?

quite nervous about auditions, I've always been nervous. The only thing that saves me during ns is preparation. If I'm ready, if I know the part, if I've worked on it and have something ng to do, I can go in and do something. Whether it goes well or not, that's life. But at least it go wrong because I wasn't prepared. Because otherwise, I feel like if I could have done more, of a missed opportunity. -

and often, a day later, I do the audition again. And doing it twice allows me to give myself notes and feel less pressure. But it takes a lot of time. In the studio we do it, whereas on camera it can take me three days, it's exhausting! (Laughs) SM : You play Dr. Taryn Helm in the show "Grey’s Anatomy". Can you tell us the process of being cast in such a huge show and what’s the best part about playing in it? JE : What is extraordinary is that this is my first experience on screen. I've done theater, so I have a theater game, which is very different. In theater school, they don't explain to us the reality of what it means. When I first arrived, I was a little lost. I put myself in survival mode to at least have time to learn things, to have experiences. My immediate reaction was to mold myself into the DNA of the show. And that allowed me to survive. Because in the show, they kill pretty quickly ! I was really nervous but I was able to adapt quite quickly. I knew the show well because I watched it often. It's a very popular show, so there's a lot of pressure. But it's a show that's also known for the speed of their work. As a minor character on the show, you're not given time to do your thing. When you come in, you either know what you're doing or you don't. As far as the script goes, now that I'm a recurring character, they give me the script as soon as they get it, but before, for two years they would give me the script on table-reads day and I would read it to see if I would die or not. I realized when I passed the three year mark that I was exhausted! It's super awesome, because you can't be the person in awe, but at the same time it's actors that I've seen since I was a little girl. It's such an intense environment, which is at the height of what you can imagine in terms of production, audience, it's one of the most appreciated series. I was able to learn very quickly how to do this job, they allowed me to improve. It's like a PhD in acting! I'm still learning a lot, but the first three years have been very intense, and starting on a show like this has been very intimidating. We have new people on the show, and I'm constantly telling them that if they need someone, come to me. I know it's intimidating, I've experienced it. It's allowed me to do my thing quickly, but you have to stick with it. SM : You starred in the digital short series Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team which was nominated for a Primetime Emmy. Can you tell us more about the show and how the idea of this short series came? JE : They wanted to start a tradition of tracking interns. We started at the same time as the new showrunner. It came at a time when there were a lot of transitions for a lot of people, they were trying to revamp. There wasn't much time to develop the new interns and they gave us backstories with this sub-series. It was very well received. We didn't think it was going to be this popular. We got nominated for Emmys, it was Sarah Drew's directorial debut, which was also nice to be there for. We really had a moment where it was just us! I remember thinking, 'This is really a new class for Grey's Anatomy,' and really, it was the best. SM : You can currently be seen in Hallmark’s "My Southern Family Christmas" which aired at the end of last uear. Can you tell us more about it? JE : "My Southern Family Christmas" is the second movie I've done for Hallmark. In May of 2022, they called my team and offered me the lead role. By offering me this movie, they wanted me to be bodypositive. It's been a great experience. A bit like "Grey's Anatomy" where you do a movie in two weeks, you work sixteen hours a day, you have to be very prepared. It was the first time I was offered a leading role and I said yes right away. It was a great experience, I met people with whom I will be friends for life... With Hallmark, the film comes out very quickly, almost two months after, so you quickly see the fruit of your work. -

azing thing is that I got to work with Bruce Campbell and Moira Kelly, actors I grew up g. And then the director who I love, Emmy Moss Wilson, who I really wanted to work with. reat friends now. Hallmark was really a discovery for me. I did two films with them in 2022. ou do a film with them, you're immediately welcomed into the Hallmark family. And I feel like ng to do more films with them, and that's something I love. I would love to produce, write or And they've been very forthcoming about those prospects.

hat show, movie or project you’d love to be part of?

hat I really want to do is comedy. Something like 'The Office'. I'd like to do something about ople. I love fantasy, but what I like most is almost documentary stuff. With 'The Office', it's people, and it's funny despite them. I'd like to do something where we laugh every day, where hings that are funny.

I wrote a lot when I was in Paris. It takes me longer to write here. In France, culture is much esent. I am very influential and when I am in a place with a lot of culture, I feel inspired. In re is a lot of culture but you have to go find it, and since I don't have a lot of time for myself, e difficult to dedicate to it. It is one of my resolutions to impose on myself a more regular habit. I'm working on a project, which I'm filming in February. I'm going to do that, and this I also have an other project. Everything takes time so I try to do my job and do other things at e time! But yeah, that's the idea.

u're french and left France to work in the US. Would you have advice for people who want to an actor and for exemple want to leave their country to do it?

hat is complicated when you are a foreigner without a visa and you would like to be in od, is to be seen. Because if there's no visa, there aren't many companies that will give you a a. But, it is possible. It's not a bad idea to come here. If you have an agent in France, it's not a a to ask if they have contacts here. Being French is still a plus! I haven't used it yet in my acting very American in my projects, but they really like the French. But without a visa, it's ated. Afterwards, there are quite a few productions in England and France, so me, if today I to be an actress, I would go to England. Afterwards, what I recommend to everyone, if you be an actor, you have to take lessons. This is where you meet people, and to get into this ment, there is nothing better. You will be surrounded by people who do this job, and suddenly, ok, there is always an opportunity to meet someone. This is the best place to start. Afterwards, actor, you have to surround yourself with actors.

ools, there are two that I recommend: Ruskin Group Theater Co, this is the school I did in L.A. ach things differently compared to France, it's more instinctive, and for me, it was a revelation.

er class that I recommend, but this one is a little more complicated because you have to be a actor to enter this class. Because it's to work on auditions that you're going to do or for a n a job. Classes are taught by Michael Woolson. He is a former actor, and the caliber of acting is n this class. In general, you have to pass an 'audition'. You send in the old auditions you did, ooks at your background. And it's a great class. It elevates your game and it's really amazing.

MY CHILDHOOD CELEBRITY CRUSH Javier Bardem.

DOUGLAS KATIE

n and film for most of my life and you might know me from the popular show « Ginny orgia ».

hat made you want to become an actress?

s quite funny, I don’t think that it crossed my mind until somebody offered me a role in ng. I think growing up I was someone very dramatic child. At least I was searching for ng more than the reality that I was living in and I got my first job when I was about 6 my after school program teacher noticed that I was creative and suggested to get d with a casting agent. I did and I ended up working my first job.

hat is your journey with acting?

y journey has been incredibly for feeling, to be honest with you, I started from a very ge without understanding really kind of that I was to grow up doing it and the idea was hat I really loved kind of disappearing into a different person and different reality and to find a little bit of poetry and meaning I guess, that is in story telling and life. For ason it’s the only thing that’s kind of stuck with me. I been doing ever since and I guess e of mine. But that being said, it can be a very challenging and demanding industry. I’ve cky enough to be concisely working in Canada for the majority of my life but as I get nd older, I start to let things plan your insecurities and you become worried that you ot ever work on the projects that you might want to, which forces you to work harder very competitive in that way. And I think if you ever stick through that, it just means that e it and that’s my experience throughout all of this. I'm just trying to find my place in

you remember your first audition?

do actually, I remember my first audition. It was for a clothing company, for a cial. I don’t remember much, but I remember having very few nerves and not being very and my mom always tells me that the director came afterwards and told her that he told mile and I said “I don’t want to be pretty, I want to make you cry”.

o you have a go-to ritual when you’re feeling nervous before filming or an audition?

s so funny, I get nervous a lot. I get very nervous before auditioning and I think the key d of use those nerves and understand that energy you’re being fed with. You have been so much energy into your audition so usually what I do before is that I kind of check in self say that what I have to offer is authentic, original, no one else gonna do this part the ay that I am. So there is nothing to be nervous about. I think nerves are good, I think uld really let them overcome you but not sabotage anything.

KD : The casting process for « Ginny and Georgia » was actually a pretty long one and I remember going out for the character of Max a couple times and I think around my third audition the showrunner suggested that I felt a little bit more like the character Abby. I guess right after I went out for that character. I got call a back to do a chemistry read with the wonderful actors who play Maxine and Nora. And not so long after that, we heard that we booked the show. It was a really cool feeling to be part of an ensemble cast, it’s so unique and special in a way. SM : You also star in the show « Pretty Hard Cases » which was renewed for a third season. Can you tell us more about it? KD : It’s came out in January 4th, and we are very happy to have a third season. I hope that we're gonna make some people laugh. SM : What show or movie you’d love to be part of?

KD : That’s a really good question. I’m like a huge movie nerd and I feel like quite everything on A24 is just killing it so I would love to work with A24. I also like the world of surrealism and horror, so I would love to work with directors like Jonathan Glazer, Ari Aster, it would be a dream come true. I would like to work for a film with them to be honest with you. SM : Do you have other passions besides acting? KD : For sure, I do lot of things during my spare time. I really love making things. I have been renovating my apartment all by myself for like the past year and I’ve realized that I love creating my space, like a movie and making it comfortable. And I feel like, as an artist, I like to make things. Maybe one day I’ll get into carpentry, who knows. (Laughs) SM : Would you have an advice for people who want to become an actor? KD : Yeah for sure , I think that if you find what it is that you love about your art and you stay true to it ; there is lot of different reasons why people get into the industry ; but I think that art in form of cinema and performance and storytelling is such an important form of reflexion on humanity and it can be …. I don’t know.. there can be a lot of importance on the story that you tell so if you find a little piece of truth in your passion and you keep it in the forefront, I think finding your individual place and all of this will come so easily and be a lot more fun, which is important. It’s very important, it should be fun.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE Super hard question because I watch a movie everyday and I think that’s my favorite movie, but I always tell people that my favorite movie is « The selfish giant » by Clio Barnard and I’ll stick with that. I also love « Eraserhead » by David Lynch, which is my go-to whenever I need to reset.

MY FAVORITE TV SHOW True detective, it’s like the best show ever.

MY CELEBRITY CRUSH WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER I love this question, it’s so funny because, for some reason, when I was a kid people who I like, who really caught my attention where usually people who were already dead. So I think in a weird way I like so much more the impression they left on the world. But I was really obsessed with River Phoenix, Jeff Buckley, Kurt Cobain and Heath Ledger. And I also had this weird crush on young Johnny Marr who was the guitar player from The Smiths.

MY DREAM DESTINATION Im dying to do to Berlin, I can’t wait to go to Berlin. I just heard so many great things about it and there is lot of people in the art community that I know.

MY FAVORITE SOCIAL MEDIA I really love using letterbox and Pinterest. They are probably the most unsocial social media but this is where I spend most of my spare time.

MY FAVORITE QUOTE That is a tough one because I really love reading and I’m always finding a new favorite quote everyday, but there is always one who is stuck with me « Perhaps someday I’ll crawl back home, beaten defeated. But not as long as I can make stories out of my heartbreak, beauty out of sorrow.” I think It’s from a poetry book called « journals » by Sylvia Plath.

WINTER ELLE

STYLING BY LISA HOANG HAIR BY RANDY STODGILL New York CitySTYLING girl ! SM : How did you start music?

EW : I’ve been singing since I was really young. My mom always says I’ve started singing before I started talking so, I don’t remember a time where I wasn’t doing that. Being in NYC, I was exposed to so much music, acting, and dance. It was really an opportunity to get into that because, it’s so appreciated in New York so, I took acting classes, I took singing lessons. That just kinda introduced me to managers, agents that introduced me to acting at a professional level, so… SM : What was the first song you wrote?

EW : The first song I wrote.. so I had a CD that I made when I was nine years old, that I made actually for my sister’s birthday. She had a band that performed and I sang her a song. I started working on the song with the band earlier … and then we started just writing songs together. He was this musician in NYC and he really became my music dad. He took me to recording studios and taught me how to write music and we made a CD that I released to all of my friends at school. And the hit song on it was ‘Awkward’. Maybe I should re-release it, it was very catchy, I still remember how it goes! SM : You were discovered at fourteen by Radio Disney, looking back, how was the adventure? EW : It was so incredible, I attribute that program to so much of my work ethics and how I learned to prioritize balancing school and my career at the time. It was such a wonderful experience! You know, touring across the country at fourteen and the experiences that we had, together… the’ve been so supportive of me at Radio Disney, until, they shut down I think in 2019. I remember my EP I had released right before the pandemic, they premiered the song, which has been really special for me. I love them.

was really cathartic. That song was empowering for me. I just started working on my new nd with a whole new team. It was the first song we wrote in Nashville and I’ve just broken up ex-boyfriend at the time. I had to reclaim my power and use my music to set the narrative. t was released, I would sing that song when I was perfoming because I liked it so much and exactly what I wanted to say as a performer. And that song, for some reason, they connected to hey felt exactly how I felt when I wrote the song . So I realised I could bring people together, with someone else, writing about my own experiences. It was really special. So I love that ow that I finally released it, to see that it reached so many people outside the world, introduced o many people wo are supportive of me now. It's just so cool to see with one song how that can

u previously toured with Chloë x Halle . How was it to be on stage and tour with such amazing ns?

was such a great experience. That whole tour was my first tour ever and I've learned so much he power of music. Seeing that connection with people from all walks of life was just super . Seeing new cities and places, meeting new people, it was such a great experience. I'm itching again. Hopefully this year.

u released two amazing singles 'Don't Blame It On My Boyfriend' and 'Rotation'. Both of them tro vibe that you have. What inspired you for those song and what was the meaning behind

ve been working on new music and continue that messaging of female empowerment and just songs from my own experiences that made me feel confident in my life and reclaiming the e. I've loved the 60's and I've always wanted to work with producers and writers who wanted to at back to life. I luckily grouped with a great team and production team. This project is super ring, super uplifting and fun, and retro, and I'm so happy it's finally out in the world.

u also released the song 'Help' who is about an anxious person who doesn't know how to call . Did the song helped you in any way with those feelings?

hink I've been in the music industry since I was thirteen, really worked since I was nine. I was oung and I've always put this pressure on myself to be perfect, and as I started working on this oject I realised that the pressure, and the people-pleasing mentality was just stifling me as a So I wanted to start a new chapter. I just moved to L.A , just started working on a whole new This is my time to decide how I want to live my life and I'm gonna allow myself to be ble, to ask for support, to lean on people. Not everything has to be so perfect. The only person I myself. No one wants to see that. We can live such a more fullfilled life if we are all honest and ur truth. That's what inspired that song.

hat is your goal in the future?

o keep creating music that's based on my own experience, tell my story, being honest, and with other people. That's all I really want . To reach so many people and to share those s. It's not only perfoming and doing crazy shows, it's telling a story and connecting with e. To have a moment, with another human being. That's what I want.

To visit : Castelo of São Jorge : It's probably the best view of the city. Restored in the 40s, the castle is absolutely breathtaking. The view is majestic and you follow the history of the castle as you walk along under the burning sun. A must-see ! Mosterio Dos Jerónimos: the covent is located in the district of Belèm, a bit far from the center but absolutely worth a look. It's a beautiful site, with a beautiful garden, that will transport you. Mercando de Santa Clara : This market is a treasure for any fan of antique and clothes. It's in Santa Clara and goes a long way. It's a great way to spend a quiet afternoon, browsing through some treasures. and afterward, you can have a drink at one of the many café here. To eat : Honetly, the food in Lisbon is absolutely amazing. Here is a bunch of my adresses to enjoy the gastronomy has to offer but, stop in any churrasqueira and you'll have to time of your life. Time Out Market : This market was the first recommendation I received after announcing I was going to Lisbon. It's a big market with different types of food, and from different countries. You take your food and then you eat on the tables at the center of the market. It's a great way to discover the specialities of Lisbon but also a fun way to discover new flavors. Pasteis de Belem: The main patries here is a Pasteis. a tasteful puff paste filled with custard. The best in Lisboa is at Belem, and it's the most ancient one as well. The queue outside just shows it's a must do. You eat it a bit warm, with a bit of cinnamon on top. You'll never regret it. LXFactory : This place is an industrial complex with a lots of shops and restaurants. It's near Belèm, so after you had your pasteis, you can visit there. the shops are splendid and the restaurants are delicious. I ate at 'Beers', which is good for cute little tapas before a shopping trip. Must do : - Taking the Tram 28. This yellow tramway is probably the most known transportation of the city. It will take you everywhere and you will discover beautiful sight with a view of the sea. You'll never get tired of this.

- Party in Bairro Alto. Most of my time here was to visit all day and party all night. And trust me, Bairro Alto is the best way to party the Lisbon way. With my friend, we were most of the time in the erasmus corner, where we'll meet different people every night and live different adventures. But honestly, every bar is amazing: the people are welcoming and the drinks are cheap, what's more to ask? - Admire the view at the Miradouro São Pedro de Alcantara. This viewpoint was probably my favorite in the city. Maybe because it's filled was filled with great memories and fun nights but also because the view is breathtaking.
