Cover Story

Experience a world of flavors at Mediterraneo Market & Cafe By Adam Donaghey When I first moved to the Clear Lake Area – and more specifically, Bal Harbour – Mediterraneo Market & Cafe quickly became my “Cheers.” There was Ross, a jovial engineer with a propensity for fine wine and cigars; his wife, Julie, a risk management consultant who loved to dance; Mark and Carol, an inseparable couple who were avid sailors; and Bill, a computer programmer who knew no other language but computerspeak. Every Friday night, like clockwork, the group would sit on the patio under a multicolored umbrella and talk about life, love and the sea. The positive vibe at Mediterraneo exudes from the energy of Egyptian owners, Magdy and Sonia Kotb, and their multicultural staff. Though happily married and not afraid to show it, Magdy brings the spirit of Sam Malone – greeting his patrons with a smile and often by their first name. The staff is made up of cooks and servers from all over the world – French, Brazilian, Czeck, Ukraine, Russia, Vietnam, et. al. – bringing a variety of international cultures and tastes, creating an exotic experience for customers and guests. Music from the Mediterranean, Spain and the Middle East serenade the guests, along with unique events such as belly dancing and live music (including astronaut bands, Bandella and David Keldof). Recently, guests have been coming in on Tuesday nights to root on Magdy and Sonia’s daughter, Miral, in her quest to conquer “America’s Got Talent.” Miral is the founder of iLuminate. She created the technology and choreographs Team iLuminate. Be sure to watch the final episodes this season and vote on September 6 and 13. Established in 2000, Mediterraneo Market and Cafe has since met a need previously unfulfilled in the Clear Lake Area. Now those craving exotic foods of the Mediterranean can shop for international cheese, bread, olives, oils and spices and exotic chocolate at the market and cook at home, or enjoy a traditional meal in-house. According to Magdy, he and his wife aren’t chefs – instead, they’re simply following the traditional, homemade recipes of their families; a longtime careful tradition of taking the proper time, mixing the proper spices and utilizing healthy ingredients, good for both the heart and the soul. Mediterraneans use olive oil and spices like basil, oregano, saffron and lots of garlic. There are no saturated fats of any kind and each dish is prepared from scratch with love and care, Magdy explained. Mediterraneo feels strongly about supporting the community. They cater churches, sports teams, various school and other functions, festivals like the Greek Fest and Lunar Rendezvous and the support the arts. Additionally, they’ve catered to the likes of Gloria Estefan, Jessica Simpson, Paul McCartney, The Who, Cher, and many other famous musicians. Be sure to check out their “wall of fame” at the restaurant.

THE SCENE

LIGHTING UP THE STAGE: The Kotbs host an America’s Got Talent viewing party at Mediterraneo to cheer on their daughter Miral, who is the choreographer for and founder of the technology used by Team iLuminate. As of press time, the next viewing party is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 6. To vote, visit NBC.com after 10 p.m. CST that evening. The final live performances air Tues., Aug. 13. Stay tuned to SCENE’s Facebook page to keep up with the results.

The menu at Mediterraneo is a dynamic blend of traditional recipes from countries around the Mediterranean – flags on the menu designate its country of origin. I was fortunate enough to try the Moroccan Lamb Tagine – steamed in a clay pot, the lamb is slow-cooked with apricots, prunes, chickpeas, carrots and potatoes, served with couscous made with herbs, dried fruits and nuts, tossed in harissa hot sauce. Another popular lamb dish is the Osso Buco – lamb shanks braised in wine sauce, served over tagliatelli. Seafood lovers will savor the Shrimp Catalan – shrimp in garlic butter sauce served on a bed of Spanish rice. If your preference is pasta, try the Greek Pasta with Shrimp or Salmon, served with white wine, garlic, capers, tomatoes, olives, artichokes and feta cheese. The Herb Crusted Salmon is always a great choice, served with rice Pilaf and spinach Mediterraneo style; or the Breaded Pan-Fried Tilapia. Classic Greek options include the Gyros Plate, grilled slices of seasoned lamb and beef, served with Tzatziki; and the Souvlaki Plate, grilled marinated sirloin with Tzatzki. Layered baked dishes include the Greek Moussaka, layers of eggplant with ground beef, potato and Bechamel sauce; and the Pastitsio, Greek lasagna with thick tubes of pasta, ground beef, Bechamel sauce and spices. - Continued on Page 19

MAMACITA’S CELEBRATES 20 YEARS SERVING CLEAR LAKE of beef or chicken fajita are marinated in a special sauce and grilled, then served with rice, borracho beans, guacamole, pico de gallo and tortillas. Served for one or two, the fajitas are also available with shrimp. Families and friends of four or more often order a platter for a shared dining experience. In addition to beef, chicken and shrimp, various combinations are available to choose from juicy beef short ribs, baby back ribs, quail and shrimp brochette – bacon wrapped grilled shrimp, stuffed with Monterrey Jack cheese and spicy jalapeño pepper.

By Adam Donaghey

Known best for its sizzling fajitas and classic margaritas, Mamacita’s has been serving reasonably priced Tex-Mex and traditional dishes from Mexico’s Yucatan region to the Clear Lake Area for more than 20 years. Fifteen Combination plates offer Tex-Mex favorites in a variety of years prior to opening the options including crispy beef tacos, tacos al carbon, beef, Mamacita’s corporate locachicken and cheese enchiladas, tamales, beef chalupas, tion on NASA Road 1, chicken flautas and beef and chicken burritos; each served owners Joe and Alma with rice and refried beans. Lots of vegetarian selections Gonzalez took over the are available as well. For those wanting a taste of the Yuhistoric Houston Mexican catan, try the Conchinita Pibil – marinated roast pork, restaurant, El Jardin. Dedionions with black beans, rice and tortillas; the ground beef cated to serving quality The Gonzalez family recently celebrated the 35th empanadas, served with rice and beans, salad and marifood and treating their Anniversary of their first restaurant, El Jardin nated onions; or the Merida Especial – a panucho, salbut, staff and patrons like family, the Gonzalezes’ owned-and-operated restaurants have stood the beef empanada, conchita taco, served with black beans, rice and guacamole. test of time – with four locations to prove it. Joe and Alma learned early on that the key to success is maintaining consistency and a kind-hearted spirit. Mamacita’s head cook, Maritza Guerra, has been with them since the beginning and guests count on her ability to provide the same tasty meal time and time again. In fact, most of the staff has been with the Gonzalezes for quite a while. David Sorto, who’s served me many times, has been with the family for 18 years – he started as a bus boy. When asked why he’s stayed with them so long, David smiled and said it’s because he is part of the family and that the Gonzalezes really take care of their staff. “We’ve done our best to create a restaurant where our staff can make a good living and become part of the family,” Joe Gonzalez said. “We try to accommodate all of their needs and allow them time off to spend with their families.” Continuing the family tradition, the two of the four Gonzalez children, Joe III and Gina, provide essential duties in expanding the family business and keeping the brand consistent. Joe III has a culinary degree and handles operations, while Gina oversees marketing and publicity. This allows their parents the time to travel between restaurants to ensure a quality dining experience for their patrons; and continue being involved with various charity and networking events, such as Clear Lake’s Epicurean Evening, various Chamber of Commerce events within their restaurants’ markets, school and teacher sponsorships, catering and in-kind donations. Along with a happy staff and consistent food, Mamacita’s has developed quite a following from regular customers as well. The Gonzalez family always been passionate about the space program and even named a traditional burrito in its honor. The Space Shuttle Burrito is filled with ground beef or chicken, and topped with Spanish sauce, grated cheese and served with pico de gallo, lettuce and tomatoes. NASA engineers and astronauts would gather and order burritos to wish the guys good luck on a lift off. But don’t worry; you don’t have to work at NASA to order this tasty burrito.

Whether it’s traditional, Tex-Mex or inspired from the Yucatan, Mexican food always pares well with an ice cold Mexican beer or tasty Margarita or Mojito. The classic Mama Rita is served with 1800 Reposado, Grand Marnier, Cointreau and Sweet and Sour. If Cuervo Gold is your thing, try the Ultimate “Almarita.” Other Ritas include the Horni Rita – mixed with Sauza Hornitos, Cointreau, sour mix and a splash of Sprite; the traditional Swirl Rita, mixed with Sangria; the Millennium Rita – a frozen rita topped with your choice of Gran Marnier, Cointreau or Jose Cuervo Tequila; or the popular Sunset Rita – a traditional Rita with a bottle of Corona inside the schooner. Traditional Cuban Mojitos are mixed with premium Rum, spearmint, tripe sec and bar syrup – also served with tropical fruit flavors. If you’re a beer drinker, try a Dos XX or Corona Micheladas, adding a spicy Mexican touch. Book your event for up to 70 people at Mamacita’s and use their private banquet room. Ideal for meetings, wedding receptions and formal events, the second-story private room offers your choice of a fajita buffet or a private menu, and has a projector screen for presentations or slide shows. For a more casual experience, take your party onto the (enclosed and temperature controlled) patio with up to 90 guests. Visit Mamacita’s NASA location at 515 East NASA Parkway in Webster. Find our more and view a full menu at mamacitasmexicanrestaurant.com or call 281-332-5362 to book their private room. Mamacita’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; with weekday happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m.

Nick’s Pizza, Pasta & Gelato

210 S. Highway 3, League City • 281-336-0174 Background / Experience: I have been cooking Italian cuisine for about 6 years. I know my pizzas, my pastas – Anything you want, I can make. It doesn’t really need to be on the menu for me to make it. Your Specialty: That is a tough question, but if I had to choose, it would have to be my seafood that is why I love to keep the seafood fettuccine on special every day along with other seafood specials. Signature Dish: That has to be the zuppa di pesce! Snapper, Tilapia, mussels, clams, and shrimp sauteed in white wine and topped in a creamy marinara spicy sauce, served on a bed of linguine. Specialty: My specialty is seafood, and I have been cooking Italian for so long, its a must-have when you see another table have it! The big problem is that everything

is so good, you don’t wanna miss out on anything we have! Have you ever prepared a meal for anyone famous or infamous? I have cooked for the wonderful people at 104.1 KRBE. They came and visited a while back. Please share 1 special cooking tip or technique for our readers: To make the best Alfredo you've ever had, all you need to do is keep it simple. Equal portions of half and heavy whipped cream with some butter goes a long way. Adding a few pinches of salt and pepper will make you all set for your dish.

CRAZY ALAN’S is da Shack for Cajun Food and Fun It isn’t just anywhere you can get Krispy Swamp Pickles… That sounds yummy. Now I am not an “adventurous” eater, so to me the Shrimp Stuffed Jalapenos called out to me too… My husband on the other hand went directly for the Alligator Legs, Coon Balls, and Buzzard Wings. Now Buzzard Wings aren’t really made from buzzards. They are made from chicken, but the menu description had the word “naked” in it and he thought that sounded pretty good. (Need I say more?)

room for Crazy Alan’s Strawberry Pudding Cake?

And that was just for snacks! The Swamp Shack’s “Da Main Korse” dinner menu features so many great food choices. Everything from Jambalaya with “anduuwee” sausage, shrimp, catfish, rib eye steak, “buzzard,” to alligator… The burger menu stared me back in the eye with a daring kind of glare that seemed to taunt, “Pick me.” Fine. That should easy right? I mean how hard could it be to choose from the InBreed, Swamp Hog, Nutria, Possum, or even the SASQUATCH burger? Now with this kind of selection, how was I going to save

Oh that Crazy Alan is a “kruel” dude. But he’s also a “kool” dude and The Swamp Shack has plenty of atmosphere that can be described as laid back, casual, and festive. Anywhere is a good seat in the house and there is even a rooftop deck with a killer view. Wow! But there’s more! MEDITERRANEO: Continued from Page 10 Mediterranean vegetarian dishes are extremely flavorful and dynamic, including the traditional Falafel Plate, fried patties with Hummus and Greek salad; the Veggie Plate, served with Falafel, Dolmas (grape leaves stuffed with seasoned rice and served with tzatziki), Hummus, Baba Ghanoug (roasted eggplant blended with sesame sauce and seasonings) and Tabouleh (cracked wheat, parsley, tomato, green onions, olive oil and lemon juice); and the Baked Vegetarian Moussaka, with grilled eggplants, green peppers and onions in tomato sauce with pine nuts, topped with Feta cheese. Each dish is served with french fries, roasted potatoes or vegetables of the day. In Mediterranean culture, the shared dining experience is encouraged. It’s also a great way to taste many different foods. The Mediterraneo Mezze is a great way to try a variety of appetizers with friends before a meal. Served with pita bread, patrons choose five of the following: grape leaves, stuffed cabbage, Spanakopita (pita stuffed with spinach, sweet onions and Feta cheese), Falafel, Dolmas, Feta cheese and tomato, Kibbi Balls (beef and cracked wheat mix stuffed with beef, pine nuts, onions and seasonings, served with baba ghanoug), Tiropita (pita stuffed with Feta, cottage and Parmesan cheeses and mint), or mixed olives. Several combination platters also exist for sharing with friends and family. Desserts and drinks menus offer some delightful treats you might not find anywhere else in the area. My favorite is the Tiramisu – it’s the best in town (according to the menu), and there’s enough for two. Some other Mediterranean goodies in-

clude the flourless almond crust dark chocolate tart, a fantastic Creme Brulee, and traditional Baklava. Mediterraneo offers an extensive wine collection from countries all over the world, including Chile, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, France, Spain, and... California! For those who enjoy really good beers from all over the world, Mediterraneo’s your place. Rarer finds like Germany’s Warsteiner, Italy’s Peroni and Morretti, Greece’s Aris Lager, Lithuania’s Svyturys Ale and Maksimm, Lebanon’s Almaza, and the entire line of Russian’s Baltica (my favorite is #9) are available – and at reasonable prices to boot. Although Mediterraneo Market & Cafe seems like its out of the country, it’s actually conveniently located at 18033 Upper Bay Road in Nassau Bay. You can reach the restaurant to cater your next event at 281-333-3180. Check out their website at mediterraneomarket.com for a full menu.

Team iLuminate with Magdy & Sonia Kotb

Congratulations to Clear Lake High School alum Miral Kotb. She and her Team iLuminate are currently in the top 10 of finalists competing in America’s Got Talent (Tuesdays on NBC) this current season. Kotb is the creator of the technology and the choreographer of Team iLuminate With a father who danced professionally in Egypt and a mother who is brilliant at crunching numbers, it is not surprising that she is a dancer and software engineer. “Dance has always been an emotional release and software development gave me the creative outlet of finding interesting ways to solve problems,” Kotb said. “The original concept behind iLuminate came when I was writing iPhone apps...I want people to see the art behind the science of writing software, and to bind science and art into one. I wanted to push the technology, choreograph the lights and make sure the devices we engineered were safe and wearable for dancers, so I started getting members of what is now Team iLuminate together to be my ‘testers’ and... the rest is history. I am so lucky to be doing everything I love with such amazing group of friends. Every time I light them up, I know my dreams have come true!” Cheer on Kotb and Team iLuminate on Sept. 6 and watch for the finals on Sept. 13. Vote for Kotb and her team on those air dates by going to NBC.com after 10 p.m. Best wishes! Go Team iLuminate!

Piggy Bank Bash for the Berry Kids Come to Give. Stay to Play. Every Penny Counts Sunday, September 25 12 to 5pm Perry Family YMCA in League City

On July 2nd while returning from an annual family road trip in Colorado back to their home in Houston, the Berry Family found Benefitting the Joshua & Robin Berry Children's Trust themselves to be victims of a fatal car accident. Their minivan carrying parents Joshua and Robin Berry and their children Peter (age 9), Aaron (age 8), and Willa (age 6) was hit head-on by another vehicle who had crossed into their lane of traffic. The parents Joshua (a Clear Lake High School Graduate) and Robin Berry were tragically killed leaving their three children behind. While the children did survive the crash, both boys sustained serious spinal cord injuries and they are both paralyzed below the waist. The children are currently being treated for their many injuries in a Chicago, Illinois area hospital. There is a significant urgent need to raise funds to aid these now orphaned children's ongoing needs, including medical rehabilitation, physical therapy, psychological support and education.

Saturday, October 8 • 3-5 PM River Oaks Book Store (3270 Westheimer Road, Houston): Meet SCENE feature writer, Sue Mayfield Geiger who will be autographing her first book of prose and verse. To purchase a copy, visit www.gibbonsstreet.com.

News of this accident has quickly traveled through the community, across the nation, and around the world! There have been countless fundraisers and outreach to support this family, as the cost to provide physical and emotional rehabilitation for these three children is unfathomable. We want to show our support for the Berry Family right here in the Bay Area – the very place where Joshua and his brothers grew up.

Saturday, October 1 • 5 PM Registration is at 5 p.m. at Cabo. As of press time, crawl stops include Knotheads, Bakkhus Taverna, Monkey Bar and then Zone 504. Raffle prizes at each stop. Open to the public $10 participation fee. RSVP preferred: b_sonora@yahoo.com

Bay Area Turning Point prepares to celebrate 20th “Birthday” Saturday, October 1 @ Big League Dreams A Bay Area-wide birthday extravaganza will be held Saturday, October 1 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Big League Dreams to celebrate 20 years of service to the community by Bay Area Turning Point, a United Way Affiliate that provides shelter and outreach programs for victims of physical/sexual abuse and domestic violence, as well as preventive/awareness programs conducted through schools, organizations and companies. “This will be a ‘fun’ party,” said Diane Savage, CEO & president of BATP. “There will be no speeches, no presentations, no sad stories. Rather, it will be a night to celebrate 20 years of saving and rebuilding shattered lives,” she added. The immensely popular 14-piece Mambo Jazz Kings will provide music for listening and dancing. An extremely talented R&B/Soul Band, the Mambo Jazz Kings combine elements of Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Beyonce, Cameo, James Brown and Luther Vandross and are a visual explosion to watch. Members of the Texans Cheerleaders will perform a special birthday cheer. “There will be something for everyone all through the evening,” Savage said. “If guests need a break from dancing, they can try their hand at a number of games and other activities, including a high stakes poker tournament.” World Series of Poker winner Allen Baker will conduct a high stakes Hold ‘Em tournament during the party. For an entry fee of $500 (75% tax deductible), entrants will play until there is a champion. The winner will receive a “Champion” Tournament bracelet, a “Championship” jacket and bragging rights. Among the other planned activities guests will be able to enjoy are a photo booth with photos immediately posted on a big screen, Limbo contest (how low can you go!), caricatures, balloon animals and much more. Guests also will be able to bid on silent and live auction items, including lunch and dinner with Astronauts Joan Higginbotham and Joe Kerwin, a necklace valued at $2,000, an Arizona golf package, a Costa Rica Getaway, original paintings, electronic game package, a wine tasting for 20, a tennis package and more. Al Saylor of Patriot Bank Mortgage, who has served as auctioneer for many local events, will conduct the live auction. Additionally, there will be a number of gourmet food stations, including a tropical garden fruit station, sliders station with chicken, spicy meat balls, Ahi tuna and pulled pork and dessert station with a variety of sweets, including of course, birthday cake. Water, ice tea and coffee will be available at the food stations, or guests may purchase sodas and alcoholic beverages at the cash bar. Tickets are $70 per person or two tickets for $125. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.bayareaturningpoint.com or call 281-338-7600. Big League Dreams Sports Complex is located at 1150 Big League Dreams Pkwy. in League City.

Weekends on the Water

A Special Guide To CLEAR LAKE & GALVESTON About the Clear Lake/Bay Area: Located midway between the skyscrapers of Houston and the beaches of Galveston, the NASA, Clear Lake/Bay Area is a unique area featuring the home of manned space flight and the third largest boating market in the nation. Although big city excitement and island beaches are each just minutes away, the Clear Lake/Bay Area has been described as the “Jewel of Houston” and is full of attractions of its own. Boating activities and water recreation provide hours of fun and relaxation in the presence

of the water's natural beauty. Surrounded by water, the land is fertile and offers lush foliage including many evergreen trees and plants. In addition to the area’s natural beauty, technology and history are woven together at the Johnson Space Center, where our nation's astronauts are trained and each manned space flight is monitored. The facility offers an official visitors center, better known as Space Center Houston. This area is also home to a surprisingly high number of quality restaurants, bars, clubs and pubs – including many overlooking the water and accessible via boat. Clear Lake is also a live music lover’s paradise with more than 40 venus offering live performances on a regular basis. The Clear Lake/Bay Area is also geared toward families with a number of amusement parks, game facilities and family festivals.

Wings Over Houston Airshow takes to the skies Oct 15 & 16 at Ellington Airport Highlights include Canadian Forces Snowbirds, B-29 “FIFI” & F-22 Raptor The 27th Annual Wings Over Houston Airshow takes flight Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 at Ellington Airport with thrilling aerial performances, aerobatics and demonstrations. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will captivate audiences with an aerial ballet of high-speed jet flight featuring dozens of formation passes. This year’s show welcomes many new additions to the legendary event. Making its first appearance at the Wings Over Houston Airshow, the Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft, F-22 Raptor, will take to the skies with its precision aerial maneuvers. Also new this year is the Red Bull Motorsport Teams of Kirby Chambliss, in his Zivko Edge 540, and Chuck Aaron, the only civilian pilot to be licensed in the U.S. to perform helicopter aerobatics. Aaron will keep audiences on the edge of their seats with his back flips, 360-degree rolls and a heart stopping tumble, called the Chuckcilvak. In addition to new aircraft, the Red Bull Air Force Parachute Team will take to the skies in their winged jump suits as they approach the crowd at Ellington Airport. Fans will also be treated with an exclusive look as the Horsemen pilots take to the skies in F-86 Sabres debuting in Houston. Jason Newburg, 2010 Lonestar Aerobatic Unlimited Champion, will showcase his high energy performance in a Pitts Viper. The 2011 Wings Over Houston Airshow returning favorites include the always-popular Tora!Tora!Tora! reenactment of the World War II air power attack on Pearl Harbor. Also returning will be a firepower demonstration with the Korea / Vietnam era aircraft, including the Huey helicopter, AD-4 Skyraider, O-2 Forward Air Command "Oscar Duece" and AC47 Spooky Gunship. The Boeing B-29 Superfortress “FIFI” returns to the skies in a rare sighting as it is the only flying B-29 remaining. Military demonstrations include the Air Force Heritage Flight, U.S. Coast Guard MH65C Dolphin Helicopter, U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet from the West Coast Demo Team, the C-130H Tactical Special Forces Jump and AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter Demo. “Wings Over Houston Airshow strives to bring new, exciting aviation demonstrations and exhibits each year. This year, we are especially proud that we will be one of the few airshows to demonstrate the F-22 Raptor,” said Bill Roach, executive director of Wings Over Houston Airshow. “We appreciate our loyal volunteers, sponsors, fans, and members of the media as the event could not be a success without each and every one of you.” Other highlights of the 2011 Wings Over Houston Airshow include the “Legends & Heroes Autograph Tent”, 6th Cavalry Historical Association, Military Museum of Texas, interactive displays from NASA, a children’s carnival area including

a rock wall and mechanical bull and exhilarating Aircraft M-4 simulator rides. Ticket Information: Tickets for the 2011 Wings Over Houston Airshow are on sale now. Advance tickets are $17.50 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 through 11 and free for children 5 and under. Reserved “Prime-View” seats at the “50-yard-line” are $45 and include reserved parking and an event program. Eagle Squadron Hospitality tickets are $125 and include reserved seating, catered food and beverages throughout the day, reserved parking and a souvenir cap, program and poster. Tickets can be purchased by calling 888-4-FLYSHOW or by visiting www.wingsoverhouston.com. Parking at Ellington Airport is extremely limited so riding bus transportation is recommended. Bus shuttles will run from Bay Area Park and Ride (801 Bay Area Blvd), Fuqua Park and Ride (11755 Sabo Road) and South Point Park and Ride (12410 Kurland). Shuttles run from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., with the last shuttle inbound to Ellington Airport departing at 2:30 p.m. The shuttle service is free this year with proof of ticket purchase. About Wings Over Houston Airshow: Wings Over Houston Airshow is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community event produced by a volunteer effort of the Gulf Coast Wing and West Houston Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force, with support from the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston. The Airshow is dedicated to showcasing vintage World War II aircraft, along with the thrills of modern aviation. One of the top air shows in the United States in its category, the Wings Over Houston Airshow attracts more than 85,000 festival goers throughout Houston as well as from around the globe. The 2011 Airshow benefits the Wings Over Houston Airshow Scholarship Program, Aviation Career Education Academy, Exchange Club of Sugar Land, Westchase Rotary Club and the Commemorative Air Force aircraft restoration and flying historical programs, in addition to numerous other nonprofit organizations.

Seabrook to host “Reeling it in for Rett” Fishing Tournament Kevin & Clint Black’s annual “Spending Time Ending Rett” fundraising weekend to kickoff on Friday, October 21 along Galveston Bay Seabrook is the site for the ‘‘Reeling It In For Rett” fishing tournament Registration Celebration, September 10th at Miramar Park, beginning at 5PM. The tournament is the first of several events to take place October 21, 23 and 24 during Kevin and Clint Black’s annual “Spending Time Ending Rett” fundraiser to benefit the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. Included in the three-day event will be the fishing tournament on October 21; the “Tee It Up For Rett” golf tournament on Monday, October 24 at Magnolia’s High Meadow Ranch Golf Club, the “Stroll Across Texas” strollathon in Conroe on October 23, followed by the Young Singer/Songwriter Showcase at Founders Plaza. The main event will be the “Spending Time Ending Rett” Concert at Conroe’s Crighton Theatre beginning at 7PM. The event features two-time Male Vocalist of the Year Clint Black with brothers Kevin and Brian and nephew Coleton Black. The Registration Celebration is a time for all “Reeling It In For Rett” fishing participants and event sponsors to get together for great food, lots of fun, and a special acoustic performance featuring Katy’s popular singer/songwriter Kevin Black and son, Coleton Black. Kevin lost his 16year-old daughter, Cortney, to the devastating neurological disorder and since that time, Kevin and Clint have been ded“REELING IT IN FOR RETT” fishing tournament icated to helping find Registration Celebration, September 10th at and fund a cure for Miramar Park, beginning at 5PM the syndrome. Rett syndrome—not to be confused with Tourette syndrome-strikes all races and ethnicities, females much more so than males. The neurological developmental disorder is caused by a gene mutation (MECP2) on the X chromosome. Children are born healthy and, many times, develop normally until a period of regression occurs. Loss of productive hand movement and motor skills, gastrointestinal/nutritional, cardiac problems, breathing issues and seizure disorders are all associated with Rett in varying degrees of severity. Loss of communication skills is common; thus, the girls are called “Silent Angels.” One of the most tell-tale signs of Rett syndrome is unusual hand movements. Seemingly harmless hand-wringing or head-tapping can be an indicator of the disorder. With Cortney, Kevin states it was continual reaching; “It was always like she was saying ‘Pick me up! Pick me up!’” Houston’s Texas Children’s Hospital has one of the leading Rett diagnostic, clinical and research facilities in the world, the Blue Bird Circle Rett Center. Daniel G. Glaze, M.D. and his team at the Center have made great strides in improving the quality of life, as well as extending the girls’ life spans. Glaze says, “Our expectations are that

with good care and attentions to their problems these women can live a very long time—much longer than [the once accepted] 20-25 years.” All proceeds from the benefit will go to the IRSF in hopes that very soon there will be a cure, or reversal. Kevin says he looks forward to the day “when it’s just gonna take that ‘one more ‘SPENDING TIME ENDING RETT’ WEEKEND dollar,” and, like all Rett REELING IT IN FOR RETT FISHING TOURNEY parents, feels that day Friday, Oct. 21, 2011. 2011 STROLL ACROSS TEXAS

Kevin, in addition to his Rett projects-- keeps a full schedule touring; performing at public, private and corporate events. His latest album, SOLD OUT: LIVE AT DOSEY DOE, has put him on the musical map once again, following Dream On—his popular studio album from 2002. This year was full of surprises for the country superstar Clint Black. In May, he learned through a 3 AM NASA Tweet that his song, Galaxy, woke up the crew of Endeavor and Expedition 28 on their last day at the space station and his original song, A Better Life-from the inspirational documentary, Unbeaten--made the 2011 short-list of Oscar nominated songs. Clint will soon be starring in Flicka 3, along with wife, Lisa Hartman Black. Clint says, “The effort to find a cure is paramount. To go beyond that, [the purpose is] to raise awareness for the families so they can stop chasing their tails and learn what they’re dealing with.” To learn more about the special three-day event, please visit www.SpendingTimeEndingRett.com. - Connie Strong

SEPTEMBER 2011

Clear Creek Vineyard, Winery, & Resort Clear Creek Vineyard is working with the Kemah Boardwalk to put on a grape stomp on September 24 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Kemah Winefest. Everyone is welcome to participate, and it’s a great event for adults as well as kids! The venue’s own grape stomp will be held all day on October 22 during the Clear Creek Grape Stomp Weekend.

There is a beautiful three-story, Tuscan-styled building in Kemah that houses one of Texas’ top ten wineries. This winery produces more than thirty different fruit, varietals, and wine blends under several labels. It is as inviting to the locals as it is to those visiting the Kemah Boardwalk. If you haven’t been inside, then maybe it’s time to get acquainted with the new Clear Creek Vineyard, Winery & Resort. It was on the weekend of July 9 that owner David Skinner celebrated the opening of the new expansion of the former D’Vine Wine and declared it “Clear Creek Vineyard, Winery, & Resort.” In regards to the name change, Skinner says, “Our new name Clear Creek Vineyard is to better reflect our community and our new brand.”

Clear Creek Vineyard is open Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday 12 to 7 p.m., Thursday 12 to 9 p.m., (Ladies Night - Half off Glasses after 5pm!) and Friday & Saturday 12 to 11 p.m. Happy Hour is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every day. Tasting fees range $2 to $5 per tasting. Clear Creek Vineyard is located at 709 Harris Avenue, just a minute or two from the Boardwalk. For questions, call 281-334-8300. - Rhonda Meredith

The entrance to Clear Creek Vineyard is through the parking lot side, alongside the back patio. Take the elevator to the second floor and upon exiting, you can either enjoy your beverage of choice at the new cozy wine bar to the right or in a more formal table setting to the left. It’s your choice since each is equally inviting whether you are dressed in cocktail clothing or in denim shorts. The first floor has a barrel room that Skinner deems a “unique space for intimate parties” that would be perfect for birthdays, charity and fundraising events. “We have great private party spaces both inside and outside,” he goes on to say. “We can do interesting parties with both bottling/private label and private tastings. We also have a bottle room and a great outdoor covered patio.” This month, Clear Creek Vineyard is set to open a small “farm-totable” restaurant named Tabella. Tabella, which means “table” in Italian, will boast an ever changing menu based on seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as organic meats, cheeses and seafood. On the public education side, Skinner notes that there are two demonstration vineyards on the adjoining B&B property called The Clipper House that is used to show customers how grapes are grown and harvested. “We have a winemaker for a day program which allows customers to spend four hours with one of our resident winemakers designing a custom blend,” Skinner says. “The customer will receive an education on winemaking, get to blend a custom wine of their choice, and have it custom bottled and labeled for them. The minimum volume is two cases and can go all the way up to a full barrel or 300 bottles.”

CD Review:

VerseCity's “Hybrid” The SCENE Magazine had the opportunity to review VerseCity’s upcoming release “HYBRID,” and let’s just say, this CD is more than just a sophomore effort. It puts VerseCity ahead of any worthy competitor. The first time VerseCity crossed paths with The SCENE Magazine was at the Plugged In Twenty Ten Music Fest (September 2010 edition). Their music was upbeat, fun, and so easy to move to – not one person was sitting down while VerseCity was onstage. I didn’t know much about VerseCity overall, but I did know their future was bright. And here we are now – a year later – and VerseCity has been hard at work getting ready to release “HYBRID,” the follow up to their 2009 CD “Epic Sunrise” and the future is indeed shinier than ever… The CD is incredible. It’s definitely VerseCity’s sound, but more mature. Great care was made in the production of “HYBRID.” The searing guitar that starts off the first track is "No Better Reson." The tune gets the heartbeat up and carries you to the catchy “Easily Complicated.” These first two songs alone are going to be top hits. The third track “Pressure” is melodic with a touch of electronics. “Temperature” has the seductive feel of a new relationship, but the next song “We Are Over” reminds us nothing lasts forever. The familiar “Tik Tok Rok” is a must with its techno dance sound. “Never Love Again” is beautiful and “Home” is another love song, but heavier. Loved it! “You Won’t Stop Us” is an anthem for those with a purpose! “Time” reminds us how precious time really is… “She Goes” sets a familiar scenario of relationship angst. The last song on “HYBRID” is “Lullaby.” Gentlemen, this will be the ultimate dedication song to your better half… The saxophone adds the extra touch. Micaiah Walker (vocalist) spoke with me about the meaning of hybrid rock, the CD name, and finding musical success in another country. Also, did you know he graduated from Clear Lake High School? Rhonda Meredith: What is “hybrid rock” and what does the title of the CD mean? Micaiah Walker: “On our first album you'll hear a lot of what some like to call genre-crossing. We refer to this as our natural ability to mix all styles of rock music into one (hints the self created genre "HYBRIDROCK") and we've been criticized for this in

THE SCENE

the past so for this album we wanted to be up front about it. Make sure everyone knows that it is not a mistake. That's why we named the album "HYBRID." RM: Describe the differences between “Epic Sunrise” and “Hybrid.” MW: “The biggest difference is production. Our first album was for the most part self-produced, and being that it was our first album, we had relatively no experience in production. Though, I think the first album is still great, our second album is well-polished and produced. Aside from our own heighten production skills, we worked with producer MD Thompson for Ivory Tower Studios, and he did a phenomenal job helping us bring this album together.” RM: I love the back of the CD and the play on song titles. For instance, “So, take our music “HOME” and rock out like no one is around. To all the haters, “YOU WON’T STOP US”…” Out of the 12 tracks, is there one particular song closest to your heart? MW: “It’s so hard to pick one because they are like my children that I've raised and groomed, and now I'm ready to send out into the world... Haha, but if I had to pick one I would say track #7 "Never Love Again." Just because it's been through so many changes and myself as well as the rest of the band are finally happy with it. Another reason is that I wrote it for my soon-to-be-fiancee Suzie Ford.” (TSM: How can you NOT love that answer?) RM: VerseCity has enjoyed success in other countries besides the U.S. In fact, three songs have become radio hits in Indonesia! What is like to know In-

43

donesia loves VerseCity? MW: “It's Amazing that people on the complete opposite side of the world (literally a AM/PM switch) know and love our music and we are not even signed.”Tik Tok Rok" made it as high as #5 over there... "Pressure!" made it as high as #2 ... and our latest single "No Better Reson" has made it all the way to #1.” RM: With the average age of the band members being 21.5 years old, you must still remember what Clear Lake High School was like. Is there anything you wish you had known then that you do now? MW: “One side of me wishes I could go back and change a million things but the other side of me knows that if I had not done those things then I wouldn't be who I am now. I loved my years at CLHS playing Varsity Basketball and being an anchor for the campus news. I wouldn't trade those days for anything!” The members of VerseCity are Walker, Soulo (guitar, sax), Daniel Roscoe (drums), Nelson Baradat (guitar), and Jef Birmingham (bass.) “HYBRID” will be available to download on iTunes and Amazon on September 10th. For ticket information and details on the release party, you can call or text VerseCity at 281.455.1690, visit www.Facebook.com/VerseCity or www.VerseCity.com.

Jefferson Starship / Toto at the Women’s Center Benefit FIND YOUR WAY BACK: SCENE readers over the years have been following us follow Tommie Lee Bradley and should be please to know after a temporary hiatus, she's back in fine form with her Shuffle Brothers Band. When we got a call asking if we'd be interested in catching them open for the Jefferson Starship/ Toto show, and that this was also the area's annual Women's Center fundraiser Music Festival, we went running. Supporting a worthy cause that helps so many a very big way, the music that evening arose to the occasion impeccably. We heard Tommie Lee and the Shuffle Brothers play out of their skin in what should easily score as a "Bravo" performance. The names and the faces may change, but the song remains the same with Mickey Thomas and Stephanie Calvert leading the new Starship. The playlist for Starship and Toto? Think back on the most popular seven songs from each band and a couple from the Elvin Bishop group and you've pretty much got it. ‘Twas swell! Shuffle Brothers Band at the Women’s Center Benefit

BENEFIT FOR TOMMY DARDAR: It was a reunion of sorts spanning back to the ‘70s and ‘80s at places like Corky's, Rockefellers, Fitzgeralds & Agora Ballroom when local bands were sharing the stage with the likes of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Stevie Ray Vaughn. This time, the gathering was at Katie's (Bacliff) to help raise funds for Tommy Dardar. A solid line up including the Mitch Jacobs Band (Gulf Coast Texas Swing), the Revelators along with Connie Mims, Ronny Hall and the Green Onions, Tommie Lee Bradley and The Shuffle Brothers band, T.C. and The Cannonballs, and The Groove Kings along with Tommy Dardar himself provided an afternoon of over-the-top music for all. While handing out overthe-top mentions, this month's over-the-top food mention goes to Karl Graves and Katie's bar manager Danny Finch for seasoning and smoking up melt-in-your-mouth brisket for all who attended. When's the last time you some of that? Thanks to those who came out and supported the cause and thanks to Katie's and their outstanding staff for pulling off another fine benefit. Cheers! GOING GREEN: Is indeed popular these days and even more so with Dempsey's Irish Pub hosting their mid-year St. Patrick’s Day party. Complete with green beer and colorfully dressed staff, it was a good night to be lucky. A couple issues back, we reported our new find, the Celtic rock group called the Blaggards at Union Tavern and looked forward to catching this Irish rock band (Dead Rabbits) pulling off the same here. Cheers to the leprechaun! - Continued on Page 41

LOOSE NOTES: Continued from Page 51 We were curious how they would rock out Crazy Alan’s patio and found out in two words -Smooooooth and sweet! Shane and Byron of 11th Hour, armed with merely an acoustic guitar and Nord Stage 88 keyboard, kept it cool with refreshing airy playlist that reminded us -- It's summer, patios are for we creatures of the night, and this is our SCENE. Loud and powerful at Cabo, light and bright at Crazy Alan’s, 11th Hour checks off as a full-spectrum band. Cheers!

Shane & Byron of 11th Hour TRACKS: Rick and Hobperforming an acoustic gig son have been urging us to at Crazy Alan’s Swamp Shack check out Last Cigarette, one of the latest in local underground bands, and this month, at CockEyed Seagull, we dropped in on a live recording session for their upcoming CD project. These guys play what's described as native music coming from the Santa Fe, Alvin and Clear Lake triangle that my generation’s parents would play on the 45s and 33s set to Led Zeppelin tempo and volumes -- Interesting concept and well played at that!! We'll follow up on how it goes during mix and mastering. Speaking of laying down tracks, reports have I.D.R. and Dave Nevling both making steady progress in the studios on their respective projects, and also this month, our ears got a taste of some early mix previews from Myrna Sanders' (aka Kozmic Pearl) project taking shape at Sugar Hill. Four SCENEarea bands, four CD projects in the works, and no doubt, more out there – a good thing! This month, we scored a hat trick getting to listen to the albums of Tommy Dardar (Fool for Love), Connie Mims (Go Deep) and Southbound (Hammock in the Keys) and were pleased with each. It was end-to-end on the spectrum with Tommy's powerful in-your-face, nose-to-nose driving blues contrasting Connie's comfortable easy listening style. Both compilations presented coherent observations of life and each surprised us: both hard and deep with their title tracks in a very relevant way. Ya gotta hear them yourself... South-

THE SCENE

bound's presentation totally took us by surprise with nearly all of their compositions scoring well into the poetic ,mind-blower categories. No wonder their fans keep coming back. Seriously! <vbgrin> Do yourself a favor and score a copy of these CDs for your collection -- ‘Tis good stuff... WHAT IS HIP?: Let me tell you... It's not only the new palapa at T-Bone Tom's, it's also the new vocal line with What Is Hip. Alex

Garibay and the guys have always one of the funnest, full-piece bands on the SCENE, and they've stepped it up another level having with guys in the horn section now, also providing double duty with the vocal line. What is Hip? Ooohs, aaaahs, and five-part harmonies had @ T-bome me wondering if what Tom’s we were hearing was live or was it Memorex?... Don't worry, we don't expect many of you to understand what I just said. Just know that What is Hip is one of the bestestsounding local full-piece bands going. And *that* folks, is hip! ZONE 504: We heard the folks at the 504 had been adding to the place, and not only that, rearranged inside a bit for the Brian Evans band. To be honest, I had no idea such a large band would ever fit inside the Zone complete with full size mains and an arsenal of tube amps. No worries... Brian's audio man had the place sounding as sweet as a set of Seinnheiser headphones for the standing-room-only faithful. I'm im-

pressed! We'll be back to check out the upper deck next month... - Cont’d on Page 45

It’s A “September To Remember” Music Festival Saturday, Sept. 24 @ Big Ben Tavern Big Ben Tavern targeted being the host with the most all summer. They introduced the “Rock & Chop” Thursday dinner special so you can “Rock Out With Your Chop Out.” And there was a little rumor the tavern had a fire breathing waitress. Wait what? We took a sneak peek at Big Ben Tavern’s official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/bigbentavern) and the photo proof was there! Yep, it’s true. The sizzle kept on going in August with the Swimsuit USA International Competition preliminaries. (The finals are over the extended Labor Day weekend!) So what could Ben Big Tavern do to keep the summertime vibe (notice the word "vibe"and not the word "heat") going? Well, how does a musical festival sound? Yes! The “September To Remember” event will be held on Saturday, September 24th! Big Ben Tavern in association with Punkstar Productions is bringing you over a dozen of the area’s hottest local

bands over three stages. According to Punkstar Production’s Ryan McGuire, this event is “the BIGGEST Punkstar show to date.” The bands confirmed at this point are ERASETHEVIRUS, IDR, Six Gun Sound, Dev Electric, Good Job Underground, Melovine, The Pub Affair, A.M. Prowlers, South, Dykes on Bykes, The Last Hour, Fresa and headliners From Guts To Glory. (Hot off the presses - FGTG's new single "The Greatest Part Of Me" is now on Itunes!) Of course new information will be coming soon as details are firmed up… Just save the date and get ready to be a part of Big Ben Tavern’s first indoor/outdoor music festival!

Loose Notes by Andy Eng My young son Joe told me something he learned in school: When times are tough, people will always need to eat, people will always need to be entertained to "get away," and people will always need to get things fixed. The way I reckon it, the way to fix everything each month is to grab a copy of The SCENE for all the great places to eat and be entertained in the greater Clear Lake region. Let's roll...

Southbound @ Tequila Mia’s

NEW STOP ON THE BEAT: We dropped into Berryhill Baja Grill and Cantina in League City and checked out Rockit Bayou. Listed on the sign as a country and classic rock band, Rockit Bayou was that plus a measure of funk thrown in for smooth measure. Makes sense as these folks have developed a respectable South Shore Harbour following from being a regular at Pier 27. We stress tested the place bringing Trish Williams' birthday crowd packing things nice and tight. I thought having the stage down at the other end of the place would've been nice but the Berryhill staff rose to the occasion nicely. Mark this new spot on the beat as SCENE party ready, and while you're at it, double it up, folks, because we got some... TROP ROCK, AT THE TOP: Down in the lighthouse district in Kemah, we stopped in at Tequila Mia's, another new SCENE music venue on our beat and found a huge flock of Trop Rockers on the upper patio and Southbound on stage. Folks, the shuttle may be down, but Southbound is skyrocketing plenty these days. Here's the skinny... Coming off their recent tour up in St. Louis, the duo of Steve Johnson and Slide Effect Jimmie Johns find themselves perched amongst the top five @ Jackie’s Brickhouse nationwide in the Margarita Mafia's Trop Rock charts, and thus, nominated for Duo of the Year honors. Pretty cool, eh? The award will be announced in Key West, Florida on November 5, so everybody listen up!!! Surf over to http://southboundus.com and follow the links to where all of us can help vote our local boys to the top! FOLLOW UP: It's 10pm, the sun long gone, the Kemah breeze caresses the night and the Astros are having a winning streak. The SCENE is Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack and 11th Hour has stepped up to the plate. The last time I caught these cats, they were shaking down the newly reopened Cabo and it was FREEZING outside. - Continued on Page 46

So what is your favorite wine? I am a Riesling girl! It’s a crisp, white wine that’s a little sweet and served cold. Speaking of cold, I say 100degree weather and you say… YUCK! I prefer cold weather… It’s easier to get warmer, than cool down.

Dempsey’s expands to two more area locations By Adam Donaghey

Local nightlife brand set to grow with the upcoming additions According to owner John of DEMPSEY’S TAVERN & DEMPSEY’S AT THE GARDEN Delesandri, Dempsey’s Sports Pub will be expanding with two new area locations set to open mid-to-late November. Both of the new locations will feature the same old school boxing decor patrons have grown to love. Drink specials will vary, though favorites like Dempsey’s house drink “The Knockout,” a 32ounce Long Island Ice Tea with Dempsey’s secret ingredient, will be available. Sporting events will be a key factor at all three locations, along with live music and events.

enjoy the cool air, live music and drinks. Food at Dempsey’s Tavern will feature fresh, traditional hoagies and subs in lieu of the standard pub fare. There will be 16 beers on draft, a full-service bar and attractive females will serve drinks in Irish skirts, kilts and bikini tops. There will also be a poker room available to book for private events. Entertainment options will include a Megatouch, Golden Tee, and five 50-inch flat screens to show sporting events. Dempsey’s at the Garden will open inside the Mall of the Mainland at Texas City. Located at the edge of the courtyard, Dempsey’s will uniquely open its doors to large events and concerts four to six times a year, giving up to 2,000 patrons the opportunity to enjoy the mall’s expansive courtyard during the evenings. Concerts will feature a variety of hip-hop and R&B, country and alternative rock (think names like Pat Green, Nelly and George Jones).

“Business has been on the incline because of the addition of people like Christopher ‘Bubba’ Keissling, my promotional marketing manager,” said Delesandri. Dempsey’s continues to thrive because of its entertainment value. While the three locations will each have a style of their own, you can bet the two new locations will share the same values as the original Sports Pub in League City.

The space at Dempsey’s at the Garden is 5,400 square feet inside. Mall visitors will be able to pop in for a bite while shopping, as the location will open at 11 a.m. daily for lunch, giving it more of a restaurant feel than a bar. There will be six pool tables, Foosball, shuffleboard, Golden Tee, four competition dart boards, a jukebox, Megatouch and ten 50” flat screens. Dempsey’s at the Garden will also feature the famous TKO Burger Challenge. - Continued on Page 40

Dempsey’s Tavern will open at 11510 Space Center Blvd, with the help of partner Rob Baker. An old high school football buddy, Baker reached out to Delesandri with the idea to expand to the area near Cullen’s, one of Houston’s premiere finedining establishments. Dempsey’s Tavern will be a cozier location, with a shotgun style bar and an Austin feel. There will be a huge outdoor patio with an additional bar so patrons can

What You NEED To Know Right Now:

The Return of ERASETHEVIRUS Note: No animals were harmed during this interview. All of the recorded audio files have been deleted so they may never be admissible. With that being said, no names were changed to protect the... innocent… There is no doubt that ERASETHEVIRUS does very bad things. But, it’s when they are bad that they are GOOD.

Hank 3 Thursday, Sept. 8 SCOUT BAR

By Rhonda Meredith It’s a new era for the Clear Lake/Houston based ERASETHEVIRUS. “ETV” has returned with a new line up, new songs, but it’s the same “mother-you-know-who” behind the microphone. He’s back! After a nine-month hiatus, Chris Navasatis, the vocals and ego of ETV is ready to get back on stage.

Upcoming ETV Shows Sunday, Sept. 11......@ Scout Bar Saturday, Sept. 24 ......@ Big Ben

“The new line up brings members of former area bands like Synthetic Fiend, Tommy Bones, and Sons Of Blackwater,” Navasatis says barely unable to contain his enthusiasm. “Whoever said ERASETHEVIRUS changed their name, needs to take their Ritalin…” The band has been rehearsing in preparation for their “debut return” headlining performance during the Texas Buzz show at Scout Bar on September 11. So what’s in store for fans song-wise and anything new for the live show? “We will be performing some old ERASETHEVIRUS songs and a lot of new songs,” states Navasatis. “Our first single “Very Bad Things” has received great reviews.” He smiles ever so slightly and says oh-so seriously, “No one is going to want to miss this show.” What went unsaid is that you never know what Navasatis and the band may say or do on stage. The lyrics in a new ETV song almost foreshadows this show “…hold on tight...for your life. This is gonna be one hell of a night!" The new music may be a little different than before, but it’s definitely the ERASETHEVIRUS sound overall. Some of Navasatis’ new lyrics actually tell the stories of lessons learned when going through the reorganization of a band. “As I walk with the dead in the Valley of Death, they make me, they break me, they will tear you down, in this *damn town…” He goes on to say, “This album or group of songs is about growth, comebacks, revenge and things like that, but still in my own way of writing...”
