About Jo-Rosie Jo-Rosie is an animal behaviourist with a degree in applied psychology and a post graduate in animal behaviour. Best known for her work co-presents channel 4‘s Rescue Dogs to Super Dogs, Jo-Rosie has enjoyed a range of other TV opportunities. She is currently working on a new project and has a series airing on ITV at 8pm on Fridays. After finishing her formal education, Jo-Rosie worked for a large animal charity where her work included a large project about the rehoming and welfare of bull breeds called RespectABull. After moving into a large private behaviour clinic and working mainly with section 1 and 3 dangerous dogs, she became an independent expert witness and then went on to work for herself. Jo-Rosie set up a Sussex based behaviour and training company which is still thriving. In 2014 Jo-Rosie published popular training book ‘The Real Dog Yoga’ and is currently cowriting another title for the same publisher called ‘Desperate House Dogs’ which is set for release in 2017. Her passion for rescue dogs and in particular Pit Bull Terriers, has lead her to be one of the countries leading experts on the breed and as such she has been asked to talk on mainstream national TV, international and local radio as well as write for National and local papers on the subject. For the last year Jo-Rosie has enjoyed her role as Head of Behaviour for the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers lecturing both in the UK and Internationally and writing the level IV OCN accredited process for assessing behaviourists. Earlier this year herself and partner, Nando Brown, decided to stop lecturing for the IMDT to set up The School of Canine Science. A company which aims to help dog enthusiasts, dog trainers and dog behaviourists develop skills, evolve their

About The Book The book covers the whole training protocol as developed for real dog yoga and takes owners, step by step, through each of the 30 postures, 15 actions and 10 expression in basic dog yoga. "The Real Dog Yoga is a refreshing look at the effect of movement on emotion. Jo-Rosie creatively integrates force-free dog training with relaxation. The book helps you create a common language with your dog about body movements, not for the sake of tricks you can show off, but for the sake of the dog’s own wellbeing." - Grisha Stewart, empowered animals/BAT
There is a chapter on set-up and environment and the book concludes with a section regarding the application of real dog yoga for dogs in challenging environments and dog presenting with "Dog Yoga is not about ‘training’ nor is it challenging behaviour. Available in the UK and Europe from April 2015 The Real Dog Yoga is a book written by the founder of real dog yoga, Jo-Rosie Haffenden. Published by First Stone Publishing and then co-published for the European market by Kynos, this book is available to buy in English and German.
about forcing a dog to participate in pointless and/or potentially stressful activities for personal gain. It is about education and teaching good life-skills that will benefit every dog, regardless of their age or experience. It reminds guardians to look for and acknowledge possibility, and liberates humans and dogs alike from limitation." - Sarah Fisher, TTouch

About the venue
We are very lucky to be running this course at Battersea Dogs & Cats home. The rescue organisation is 150 years old and help around 8000 cats and dogs every year. Since being established in 1860, we have cared for over three million animals. Today, with 154 years of experience behind us, the Home is one of the UK's most famous and longest-serving charities, and is proud to be London’s leading animal rehoming centre. The old Windsor site is just like the central London site and runs the same way. It is slightly smaller however, housing around 36 dogs and 45 cats at any one time. During the four days we will be working with some of these dogs and helping them to learn skills which will hopefully ensure a smooth transition into a new home. Some of the dogs we will be working with will have had a trickier history and it will be paramount that all members of the course listen closely to details regarding the dogs history as well as particular dos and donts for the individuals we will be working with. The dogs at Old Windsor come from a vast array of backgrounds with many stray, abandoned, neglected and abused dogs looking for homes. This is a fantastic opportunity, not just for you to learn a new protocol and a new way to train - but also for the dogs. During their time with us I hope that you will all take plenty of photos and videos which will help to attract potential new owners for the dogs we are working with. Each pair of participants will be matched to a dog and will work that dog for the entirety of their stay. They will be expected to be the dogs protector for that time and ensure the learning and experiences are as positive and enjoyable as possible. We will have access to non public areas of the site during the course and I will brief everyone with rules to follow during our visit but it is important to remember we will be guests.
