State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).

United as one: BSECE’s smiling faces when they were announced as the 25th Founding Anniversary Overall Champion

The opening performance depicted the history
of PUP-STB for the past 25 years with the participation of Teatro Batangan, Indak Batangan, Otaku Guild and The Searcher. One of the highlights of the epic concert was the ramp of Ginoo at Binibining PUP 2017 candidates wearing their society shirts as they represent their own department. to amaze the spectators with their music that showed they are not just on rock but also in various genres. Otaku Guild exhibited their passion on Japan culture by singing theme songs of different anime. Psychology Department’s Chorale Group as well as the spoken poetry written and performed by selected staffs of The Searcher also tickled the audience. On the other hand, the masters of the ceremony, Kirby Palla, JB Palma and Camille Bathan engaged the audience to tweet #PUPSTBSilvered in social media. The event wouldn’t be possible without the help of the Central Student Council with the cooperation of PUP-STB Alumni Association Inc.
In line with PUPSTB's 25th founding anniversary, Batangas City Governor Hermilando I. Mandanas, as the honorable convocation guest speaker inspired the campus community with his uplifting speech involving the historical composition of the province, PUPSTB Gymnasium, January 26. With the theme "Reminiscing Yesterday's Glory & Today's Gains in Facing a Brighter Tomorrow," Mandanas congratulated PUPians with his advocacy. ECE Dance Company Drives the Beat Neal Andrei Lalusin
With minds of unbreakable passion, bodies of great flow, and hearts of impeccable rhythm, the Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE) conquered the dance floor with a gritty, yet still captivating performance on PUP-STB’s first ever modern Pop and Hiphop dance competition, the Dance Idol 2017, January 30. “Nakakaproud,” Ian John Baetiong said, an ECE Dance Company member. “Sulit na sulit ang pagod. Tapos nandoon pa ang buong ECE para sumuporta,” he
continued in regards to his feelings in being the first ever champions of the said competition. BSECE proved their spot for the trophy by garnering a total of 460 points from the panel of judges. Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) gave a close fight with the score of 450 points and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) came in third with the score of 428 points.
a raw score rather than a percentage. Each judge will contribute points based on the following criteria, Creativity and Musicality (10 points), Formation and Technique (10 points), Originality (10 points), Execution and Style (20 points), Placement and Strength of Movement (10 points), Synchronization (20 points), Blockings (10 points), and Overall Impression (10 points), for a total of 100 points from each judge. All of the points from the five judges was added for a maximum total score of 500 points. The panel of judges at first were in disagreement on who will receive the Champion title between BSECE and BSA. Four of the five judges were unanimous in choosing BSA as their champion because of the overall theme that captured their attention. One judge though, defended and convinced the other judges that ECE’s choreography required more refined skill and practice compared to the other competitors. At the end, even though BSA’s cohesion and storytelling through their performance were impressive for the judges, BSECE’s technical difficulty and overall enthralling choreography deserved the higher score. Moreover, even with all nervousness before going onstage, BSECE remained optimistic during the competition. Pati sana ‘di rin magkamali,” he cheekily added to his statement. The said competition was one of the major events in the 25th Foundation Anniversary of PUP-STB. This also replaced the Cheer Dance competition from previous years due to the Faculty Administration, Central Student Council, and all the Academic Departments’ agreement to reduce expenses. Practice lang ng practice,” Ian John Baetiong humbly stated when asked for advice to aspiring Dance Idols in the future. “Enjoy. Pray,” he finished.

BSIE defies odd, captures minor crown, 175-130 Katrina Malate
The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) displayed steely nerves down the stretch against their rivals to capture the crown for minor category over Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE), 175-130, January 16-20. CHESS TOURNAMENT In the nine-set deficit game, 50-30, BSIE prevails over BSECE, thus nabbing gold in the do-or-die final match of chess tournament. At the first set of the game, BSIE dropped a 30-10, 30-20, 20-10, 20-10 points to BSECE, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA), Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BSP) and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), enabling the last pair of contestants to grab
the four leads. But both BSIE and BSECE were raring to regain the lead, confident of hurdling the other opponents after the last quarter of the set. After the elims, top four contestants clashed in the Final Four with BSIE and BSA clashing with BSEE and BSECE, respectively. The two enjoyed twice-to beat edges, where BSIE, 50, hailed as first; BSECE, 30, as second; BSA, 20, third. Lecture from the Black Shades Glen Del Rosario Mind enriched, the Editorial Board of The Searcher (TS), heeding to learn new techniques on writing, attended Professor Fidel Maliksi’s seminar at Horton function Hall, December 20, 2016. It’s an annual tradition that the adored lecturer generously shares writing methods and trainings on TS’s Ed Board. The professor with the black, round shades shared techniques on how to shorten a full-length article or the “Kill your darling” technique. He used his own memoir article in Inquirer Libre entitled “Inay and Tatay”. He also allowed the journalists to read every single paragraph of his memoir and later elaborated how he transformed his long memoir into a short and concise one. The campus journalists grasped tactics in compressing a thousand-word article into a hundred one. They also learned that in order to have an effective article, it should be brief and attractive.

The acclaimed lecturer also gave some tips and reminders to all the staff as addition to his lecture. He concluded his lecture by encouraging the journalists that in order to be an intelligent and effective writer, they must engage themselves on deep reading.
Professor Fidel Maliksi, famously known as “Sir Pit”, is a philanthropist and a hard-working librarian. He is the most outstanding faculty of PUP-STB in 2016 according to the Office of the Academic Head. Additionally, Sir Pit is also a contributor writer in Philippine Daily inquirer and also the Editor in chief of Sto. Tomas Balita- the official newspaper of the municipality of Sto. Tomas.

Nanalo ang isang DU30 na may lahing Maranao, Tsino, Bisaya at isang ATAPANG a tao, ATAPANG a PILIPINO.
Paano Magmove-on?
My Gad, I Hate drugs!”

You're Turning 50, Charlie Brown Patrick Lim
There is something quite cruel about the musical play You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. During one scene, the eponymous character tries to fly a kite; he has never flown one successfully before. Just as when it seems that he is going to succeed for the first time, at the height of his euphoria, the kite gets tangled in a tree. In another scene, one character tells her younger brother to look closely at Charlie Brown's face because it is a "Failure Face." "Notice how it has 'failure' written all over it," she says. And these are done for laughs. The original production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown premiered off-Broadway in March 7, 1967. It ran for more than a thousand performances and was met with critical acclaim. It was based on Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts comic strips and tells the story of Charlie Brown and a host of other characters--the haughty
Lucy and her precocious younger brother Linus; Schroeder, a boy gifted in playing the piano and Lucy's love interest; Snoopy, Charlie Brown's beagle; and others. The play is structured as a series of vignettes strung together. The role of Charlie Brown was originated by Gary Burghoff, who is best known for portraying Corporal Walter "Radar" O'Reilly in the television sitcom M*A*S*H. The musical's score and lyrics were written by Clark Gesner. The book was credited to one John Gordon, though Gesner had stated that there was no "John Gordon"--the musical's book (or the spoken dialogues and structure) was the product

of the combined efforts of Gesner and many of the other people who worked on the original production. Even by ‘60s standards, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a pretty small musical. Only a few instruments are needed for the orchestra. No chandelier falls onto the stage like in The Phantom of the Opera, no gigantic turntable revolves on the stage like in Les Miserables. What makes Charlie Brown great is not pyrotechnics or special effects but its charm and honesty and how it finds humor in sadness and vice versa. Charlie Brown is not only a "good man," he is also an everyman. You can either project yourself onto him or consider him a foil for yourself. The good man Charlie Brown does not have a very good image of himself--"I'm not very handsome, or clever, or lucid," he says at one point--and neither do the people around him. Nobody seems to really like him. Not even Snoopy, who says that he really is living a dog's life because he always needs to pretend to be happy to see Charlie Brown because Charlie Brown feeds him. Charlie Brown fails and fails and fails. At flying a kite. At hitting a baseball. At writing a book report. At even introducing himself to a red-haired girl he has a crush on. No one gives him any cards on Valentine's even though he always gives a card to everyone he knows. People play cruel jokes on him. Quite a tough life for a kid who's not even ten yet. The play, though, ends on a light and poignant note. The characters define what happiness is for them-- “Happiness is finding a pencil,” “telling the time,” “tying your shoe for the very first time,” “being alone every now and then,” “for happiness is anyone and anything at all that’s loved by you.” In a world where nothing seems to make sense, you can find happiness in the simplest of things.
Happy 50th year, Charlie Brown.
PUPSTB @ 25: Reminiscing Today’s Gains in Facing For the past twenty-five years, she has been the comforter of the less privileged students who wants to transform their life into something extravagant yet full of humility. She has been the giver of all the information that the student really needs in order to succeed in life for a little cost. She has been the hand who embraces all those knowledge-seeking lads and gives them the wisdom that they need. She is PUP, she is a home, she is an institution, she is as important as silver, and there is nothing we desire compares with her. Our Sintang Paaralan is one of the branch campuses of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines located in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. It is established under an agreement between the PUP Campus President and the officials of Sto Tomas. It is the only academic institution in Sto. Tomas which acts as the community college and serves other municipalities in Batangas and Laguna province. Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sto Tomas is a powerhouse of professionals because it is not just an institution cultivating knowledge and skills but also it is a home honing attitude and competence. It is not a joke building a one of a kind university in the center of a municipality; it is not as easy as one, two, and three. PUP-STB is full of historical battles and intellectual planning in order to be the PUP of today. And as a PUPian, we are obliged to know what are the struggles, the
victories, and the mazes that our dear Sintang Paaralan has been through. I. Powerful Past It was June 10, 1989 when a history landed on the land of Sto Tomas. It is the date when Hon. Leopoldo M. Laurel Jr., the mayor of the municipality way back then, anticipated the dream of inaugurating a branch in town by sending an epistle of interest and gratefulness to Dr. Nemesio E. Prudente, the president of PUP on that time. The sending of the letter of proposal was initiated by Dr. Dante G. Guevarra. One hectare of municipal land was donated under Resolution No. 89-18 to be used as the university’s domain. Following the donation was the groundbreaking ceremony on January 28, 1991. In year 1992, the branch accepted the first batch of students with a total number of 292. This school year opened slots offering Bachelor in Business Administration, Bachelor of Accountancy, Bachelor of Computer Data Processing Management, Bachelor of Office Administration, and Bachelor of Electronics and Communications Engineering. Our university’s first office of the director was located at the Santo Tomas municipal building which later transferred to the one-story building that also served the first batch of our students. The university offered not only a quality and accessible education during those years but a branch of strong members who
Reymark enjoy the plenteousness of academic freedom and is attentive of their unending toil and accountabilities set upon their shoulders en route for the students.
It is about nine years, around March 2001; the Congress passed an act, the R.A. No. 9045, which forms the Batangas State University by incorporating different public higher education institutions in Batangas province including our university. This led a protest of the PUPSTB community to be not a part of the so called integration. The protest dignified, strengthened, and brawled for students of PUPSTB who will lose the privilege to study at the cheapest cost. The university officials together with the faculty, staff and students blocked the entry of the BSU executives into the campus. They even petitioned to the congress the amendments of the Republic Act 9045 excluding PUPSTB on its coverage. After six years, in March 2007, Republic Act 9472 was authorized. It is an act amending R.A 9045, which finally excludes PUP in Sto Tomas from the coverage of Batangas State University. It is one of the greatest victories that our university had ever achieved. To this date we are still part of the PUP System, and currently delighting in the twelve pesos per unit.

II. Undefeated Present PUPians have proven that we are raised by our university to be more resilient and resourceful among the other students taking degree in other state universities. Being hardworking and quickwitted scholars are stated as our main advantage over the others. Despite of having a few means we can still produce better and excellent outputs in every tasks given to us. It is strengthened by what the products of our Sintang Paaralan had given to us. They have verified that a true PUPian is a true globally competitive professional. They have proven that PUPians are the most fitted graduates for all the works waiting in the corporate world. PUPSTB had produced over 10,000 graduates, and some of them marked history in their respective fields. In fact, ten of our alumni received the prestigious Gat. Apolinario Mabini Outstanding Alumni Award last year. In the past two consecutive board examinations rendered by the PRC, our Electrical Engineering graduates garnered their consistent 100% passing rate in the said licensure test. A few years ago, one of our Accountancy Graduate landed on the 9th Place in the CPA Board Examination that brought another pride for
our Sintang Paaralan. For the Electronics Engineering Organization, one of their alumni landed 4th Place in the ECT Examination conducted last year, apart from this two of their graduates landed 3rd and 9th on their ECE Board Examination. Going on the Psychology Society, some of their graduates from the recent batches passed the Pyschometrician Licensure Examination and proved that they have the most passionate heart and the burning desire in their chosen field.
is really a powerhouse of intellectual professionals.
Also, the Institute of Industrial Engineers gave pride to our campus by dominating the Certified Industrial Engineer Examination in the past years; in fact some of their graduates were included in the top 10 of the said examination.
Change will always be there. It is constant, it is inevitable. We need to accept that it is a challenge, a challenge that we need to solve. We know that PUP will be here forever, ever ready to accept any one, ready to admit those students with dreams, with aspirations, and with the strong desire to learn new things and ready to accept new challenges.
PUPSTB is not only leading in the licensure examination of its respective programs, but also we headed some of the quiz bees and academic competitions around the campus. To name some, several of the Engineering Theses won an award in the DOST Thesis Competition. Every time that our university were sending delegates for the quiz bees, our representatives went home with medals on their necks. A whole center page of this newspaper is not enough to site all the citations, awards, recognitions, and acknowledgements that our university received. To know everything, we can do a night full of talks and discussions to discuss ever ything. This only attests that PUPSTB

III. Prudent Future For the past twenty-five years, PUP had overcome a lot of difficulties, yet we are still here fully instituted and will never be defeated. Success would never be as sweet as this without the trials that we have overcome. Problems and chaos are the one who made us strong. They will always remind us what we’ve been through.
Let us always look back to the past, beholding back and pick up all the lessons that we’ve learned. Let us ruminate everything and rekindle every single details of our success. Gathered everything and together let us build another twenty-five years of joy, success, and celebration. PUP will always be PUP. But, PUP is not PUP without you! Let us celebrate! Cheers to our Silver Anniversary! Happy Founding Anniversary PUPSTB! Cheers for many more years!

100% off?
Good night and sweet dreams nga naman.

Effective Ways to be a Well-Known Hero Ervin Joshua Navarro As soon as the news about Marcos’ burial erupted in the media, many Filipinos became a Political Science graduate or a lawyer. They began posting in Social Media, ranting every now and then and making some foolish arguments against other people as if they all know the different sides of the story. For now, let me give you things to look back and how did this happen.

A list of some 120 Americans and Filipinos who were awarded during the Bataan campaign was transmitted to the War Department by General Jonathan Wainwright on April 12 shortly before his surrender. MARCOS WAS NOT on any of the lists.
Be a DICTATOR Late President Ferdinand Marcos declared a Martial Law on September 21, 1972, about 44 years now. The declaration was issued under Proclamation 1081 suspending all civil rights and imposing military authority in the whole country, thus calling it the “Martial Law”. Marcos said that it was to regain competency against the upsurge of violence caused by the communists. There was also an emergency rule: To eradicate the roots of rebellion and promote a boost for national development. It was all to, as he said, lead the country into what he calls a “New Society”. Aim for Higher Numbers The Amnesty International (AI) estimated that during the Martial Law, 70,000 people were imprisoned, 34,000 were tortured and 3,240 were killed. When they came to the Philippines, they also interviewed a hundred of the prisoners and found out that 71 of them were brutally tortured. Yes, it all sounded obnoxious but these things haven’t had yet to cross the finish line. The AI also discovered the means of those tortures and how it was done. Electric Shocks: Electric wires are attached to the victim’s fingers, arms, head and in some cases, genitalia. “San Juanico Bridge”: The victim lies between two beds using his/her head and feet only. If he/she falls, he/she will be beaten. Russian Roulette: The “Administers” or the tortures will load one bullet in a revolver then they will force the victim to pull the trigger while pointing it to his/her head, frantically guessing if it will his/her head or not. These were all physical torture and there were also reported other kinds such as mental or sexual torture. I won’t elaborate it all to prevent your upcoming nightmare-causing-insomnia.
History says, Marcos was a welldecorated soldier, a veteran of the World War II and a survivor of the Bataan Death March and that he gave invaluable service as a writer, statesman, soldier, President and Commander-inChief. Pretty tough huh? But here goes the real deal:
Many of Marcos’ medals were obtained for heroic actions in the Mt. Province while serving in the 14th Infantry under the Command of Colonel Manriquez and Adjutant Captain Rivera. Both attested to fact that Marcos was a non-combatant and just a Civil Affairs officer. They knew of no award that Marcos could have received or had been entitled to. For 40 years Philippine War records were not available to the public. It was only in the 1980s that many of the documents were eventually accessible to legitimate researchers and scholars. Led by Colonel Bonifacio Gillego assisted by a team from the Movement for a Free Philippines, a study was made on “Marcos: FAKE HERO”. The research and study was written by Col. Gillego and was published by the Philippine News and the We Forum which Marcos shut down and its Editor and staff writers indicted for “sedition” punishable by death. Eleven awards were given in 1963.Ten were given on the same day (December 20, 1963). Three awards were given in one AFP General Order. One award was given in 1972 when he was already President. Eight are really campaign ribbons which everybody involved in Bataan. Awards are duplicated for the same action at the same place on the same day. One is a Special Award given by the Veterans Federation of the Philippines and three for being wounded in actions which his own Commandant swore could not have happened. Now, Hail to the Fraudulent hero! Use the Presidency Card I guess you are all now comprehending why the hell (oops) Marcos became a hero and deserved to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. And as we see, he wasn’t just buried in
19 that cemetery but it was a furtive one. But still, President Duterte stated that he sees nothing wrong with it, thus saying that Filipinos should learn to forgive. “Let history judge but I will do what is legal and the Supreme Court has ruled that it is.” Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said while reading DU30’s statement at a press briefing. He was pertaining to the majority decision of the SC allowing Marcos’ remains to be buried at the Heroes’ Cemetery, from which petitioners say was still a subject for an appeal. He also added that there was nothing sneaky about the matter. The fact that the family buried him is part of the process. He admitted that President Duterte was surprised as well the moment he learned about the burial. They also said that they just respect Marcos’ final wishes on his deathbed, his last will and testament. What about those victims who suffered? Their families? Don’t they deserve a much better veneration? These appeared to be convincing and all but still, many of us would rather “die” as they say than be fooled by these well-fabricated statements. *** At this point, if you are still in favor of Marcos’ Burial then you might as well be concealed near his remains. And if your belief has been curved for the reason that my write-up is factual and convincing, let me give you the aftermaths of this issue which are given and discussed by Prof. Pit M. Maliksi. He mentioned three after-effects of the burial of whom he called as Murderer, Atrocious, Robber, Criminal, Oligarch and Satanic -- making the “Fake-mous” hero Marcos as a mnemonic. First is the Superficial Democracy. Second, Policy Gaps. Third, International Repercussions. We all know that this burial was not decided democratically. Though it is true that the Supreme Court opted on burying Marcos on the Libingan ng mga Bayani, but how can we be so sure that there wasn’t money involved? Who funded Duterte’s political campaign? Different politicians but mainly the Marcoses. Now, what would be the payback? Grant the Family wishes including the autocratic ones. This burial is just to reconcile the Marcos Family! Now what would happen? Philippines will become a laughingstock for other countries. We are burying a President who robbed our country? We are burying a Dictator and the crucial cause of the loss of many lives during his regime? We are honoring the prime mover of our country’s greatest misfortune. We can’t just entomb all the tortures, killings and other horrible things he did, together with his body and then put in his gravestone, “Here lies a hero.” They might as well put it this way, “Here lies a Hero that lies.” Ironic?

Bakit maraming “P” sa PUP? Kaye Mari Maranan
Pumagalawa lamang ang University of Sto.

plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Rosaleen Flor Agojo

Romans 8:35-39: “…neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God…” John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have an eternal life.” Nagmahal.
Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the
O nararamdaman mong walang may pakialam sa tuwing nalulungkot at lumuluha. Huwag kang mag-alala darating din yung panahon na: Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no death or mourning or crying or pain…” ...from page 26, Book Review
Times best sellers under the SciFi and Thriller genre. Why not patronize our local authors? Eliza Victoria made the Philippine Folklore and Philippine Urban Fantasy level with the foreign YA novels I usually read. She’s style of writing is intact with such simplicity and directedness without overusing creativity. Her writing is on point and direct but assured that it’s well-thought of. Her characters are both complex and well-established. The story is just perfectly in its right pace and the narration is really commendable-leaving just traces of the mystery, escalating the tension and finally setting off the big conclusion at the end. Wounded Little Gods reminds me of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods with fragments of Percy Jackson series set in an urban town filled with, ironically, both folklore and science. And that is saying a lot.

:D Full time engineer, part time volleyball player. :D -Christian Jay Vacaro Ewan.
I wouldn't be able to raise money pandagdag sa tuition and other fees, tapos madadagdagan pa po yung bayarin namin. (Summer sem which is more or less 500pesos, and another amount for the advance 9 units) -Mikee Pantas Amores
Baka ang mangyari the usual, no plans at all. The first summer kasi kokonti lang ang may summer like nasa curriculum naming Accountancy students. The second summer baka may gawin ako/kaming CSC since almost of the departments may summer. We'll see. Hahaha. Pero may isa pa lang akong plano. Before sya magpasukan. Brigada Eskwela. Ayun pa lang. :) -Shelley Punzalan
Well I know everyone is excited for the long summer that awaits us but I can't help but wonder how I can spend this summer more productively than last year. I spent last year's summer at home watching tv,reading books, eating and just surfing the net. But this year im planning on travelling with my family and spending much needed time with them. Well that will go on for a few months and the rest i'll just help out with my mom in running our family business.
-Paola Kaye Macahia
Well ang plano ko po ngayong incoming long summer vacation daw po is mag susummer job po muna ako atleast hindi po masayang ung 4 na buwan sa wala, siguro sa pag hahanda po ung kikitain ko sa pag papartime job e ilalaan kopo sa next school year. -Axl Arellano
Hmm. -Hairo De Luna
Maghahanap ng part time job tapos kapag hindi ako nakuha e mag iinquire ako sa tesda to learn different language, siguro Japanese or Korean. Yun lang. :) -Jessa Lumalang

–Airam
Hindi ako makapagbigay ng certain na opinion. May nakikita kasi akong negative both sides.
Tsk.
The LP senators have one reason and goal only. To oust the Duterte Administration. I am glad for this because I believe they are not doing their job very well.
Paano Beshy? Pagkakaisa lamang ang nakikita kong solusyon. -#MEMA

Book Review ReiJanGon
Princess Julie Ann Manalo
"Our main objective is to make all youth know Christ, especially here in PUP," said Zyrone Bautista, Youth for Family and Life (YFL) President.
I was roaming around National Bookstore, searching for a Philippine Fiction novel (because why not?) to do a book review of. I have only read few PhilFiction books from particular authors whom I really know such as Bob Ong, Eros Atalia, Ricky Lee and my new favorite—Edgar Samar Calabia. Anyway, I was looking for something interesting and newly published to read when I came across this book in a pink and black cover matched with a cute typography which gave the book an almost-creepy-butturned-out-cutie overall appearance.
The protagonist of the story is Regina, a young lady who moved from her rural home to the city to work. She’s working in an office in Makati for almost a month now when the company welcomed a new employee whom she barely shared conversation with until one night when the streets was in a serious gridlock. Diana offered her place to Regina where she can crash there to spend the night. There, Regina got to know Diana more. She saw how Dianna was fascinated by eugenics thru her collection of books which Regina found really intriguing. The tension in the story immediately sped up the momentum with Diana’s sudden disappearance after that night. And only Regina, as the last person who hasdseen her would unravel this mystery with the help a folded piece of paper filled with Diana’s handwriting which she found inside her bag. The piece of paper was a map of Heridos which to make it stranger, was her hometown. So to finally unveil the mystery she had in hand, she went back to Heridos.

Heridos was a small town where gods and spirits used to walk the earth. It was a town where people had the oldfashioned way of religion. They used to offer food for the spirit, perform rituals like animal sacrifices and worship gods and even talk to them. Until years later, the town produced a bad harvest. People believed that their gods had abandoned them. Now, Regina was back to figure out how Diana’s disappearance related to her strange discoveries. With the little clues she had, her curiosity got her far into all new level of mystery. She found herself in places that no one knew of. She met and talked with people who really were not they appeared to be. And as the story went deeper, the mystery and the thrill even scaled higher. Who really is Diana? How come she’s the only that can see that science facility? And how it is even hidden in the plain sight? How everyone she had met fit in this story? This is all I can provide without spoiling. This is my first time to read a book by Eliza Victoria. This book is a mustread for fans of the mainstream New York Continued on page 21...

A ferocious battle between BSECE (Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering) and BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) erupted at the PUP Gymnasium as they both pushed their way into their own goals; ECE to their first title and EE to their 3-peat in Volleyball Championship Men’s Division. In Game 1, both teams were on fire in the first set. Justo (EE) and Vergara (ECE) as their team’s setters did a great job giving the ball and allowing their spikers to attack well. In the next set, it was more of a neck-to-neck game. ECE seemed to polish their game from the previous set. For the 3rd set, EE dominated again. Ramos (EE) executed 3 consecutive service aces boosting the morale of his team. The PUP Gymnasium echoed the sounds of the team’s cheer; EE Youth from the right side and E-C-E on the other. In the 4th set, ECE got ahead first. Icban’s (ECE) good block against Bautista(EE) encouraged his team as they got ahead by 4 points (10-6). EE on the other

30 hand never gave up as they tied the score by 23-23, but ECE was the one who got out as the victor of that set. Final set and both teams hide their exhaustion and still continued to fight. Vergara (ECE) and Justo (EE) still sets the ball well. The two teams persistently retained their scores till they got into a do-or-die deuce (14-14). The cheers were heard in all corners. ECE got the last point and the First Game advantage by forcing EE into an error. The final scores per set were 25-15(EE), 25-21(ECE), 25-13(EE), 25-23(ECE) and 16-14 (ECE). EE played the Game 2 with a vengeance. Singh (EE) contributes points using his service aces. ECE on the other side had a hard time receiving and serving the ball, giving EE an advantage. But then, Vacaro and Nillos of ECE never gave up till they got ahead in the middle of the set. ECE continued to
SPORTS score until they won the first set. For the next set, EE played more aggressively. Justo and Naag’s tandem also helped the team until they secured the first set with a huge lead. In the 3rd set, Vacaro (ECE) continued to attack belligerently but it was answered by Bautista’s (EE). This set was tighter than of the previous sets. Icban (ECE) closed the set by a wonderful block. For the 4th set, even though EE was on a disadvantage by number of sets won, they still fought vigorously. With the help of the fans’ cheer, EE obtained the set with an 8-point lead. Final set of the match and it will decide whether ECE or EE will go home crying ---- from victory of loss. EE got the first point by Bautista’s powerful spike but Icban answered it with his own. Volleyball Women’s Division Victors: EE Youth Ervin Joshua Navarro
A great display of good digs and spikes was demonstrated in a 3-game battle between BSENT (Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship) and BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) as they both seek for Championship title of Volleyball Women’s Division. Game 1 and it seems BSENT had the upper hand. EE only got the 1st set of the match and AFBA (Association of Future Business Administrators) obviously, acquired the remaining sets with astonishing leads. It was ended by Siena’s(AFBA) 3 consecutive service aces. The Final Scores were: 25-15(EE),
25-22(AFBA), 25-15 (AFBA), 25-13 (AFBA). In Game 2, EE must have planned their retaliation well. AFBA won the first set and then EE got the remaining sets. But AFBA never made it easy for their opponent to win the match. De Torres (AFBA) did her job on setting the ball especially to Alcantara who contributed much points for her team. On the other hand, Prejoles (EE) gave her attackers those easy-to-spike sets enabling them to gather much scores. The match ended through Malabag’s (EE) service ace. 25-13(AFBA), 25-20(EE), 25-13(EE), 27-25(EE) were the results per set, respectively.
For the do-or-die match, Game 3, AFBA starts off with a huge spike by Alcantara. It was immediately answered by Cabaltea’s powerful attack. Both of the setters are still doing a great job of letting their spikers to attack well. Most points have been acquired by Manaig, Montealto and Siena of AFBA and Cabaltea, Cadahing and Malabag on the other side. Both teams ferociously battled with each other until they reached the 5th and final set. AFBA got the 8th point by Siena’s service ace but it was instantly answered by Pacho’s 2 consecutive service aces. Cabaltea then closes the match with an overwhelming spike. The final scores were: 25-12 (EE), 25-17(AFBA), 25-22(AFBA), 25-20(EE), 15-11(EE). The battle between BSIT (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology) and BSECE (Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering) for 3rd place was won by BSIT within 3 straight sets. The scores were 25-20, 25-14, 25-14.
