Ron Heller Vice President and Agricultural Loan Officer At American State Bank & Trust Company in Williston, will retire December 31, 2008. Ron celebrated his 40th year of employment with ASB&T in 2008. Originally from Williston, Ron attended the University of North Dakota-Williston, and graduated from North Dakota State University in 1967 with a bachelors degree in Animal Science. After graduation, he worked for Wilson Packing Company in Albert Lea, MN, for one year, before joining the ASB&T staff in 1968. Ron noted that the biggest changes he has seen over his 40 years as an ag lender, have been the use of computers and other technology, both by the bank and the customer. He also said there are so many more regulations on farmers and ranchers now than 40 years ago. Ron is a member of the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee, the Northwest Beef Task Force and is a 4-H Animal Buyer. Several years ago, he was instrumental in the creation of Valley Vu Feedlot in Fairview. He has also been one of the chief cooks at the NDSU Ag Research Station Ag Tour Barbeque. ASB&T President Frank Keogh said, “Ron has been such an important part of the growth and stability of American State Bank. He has served countless ag customers over the years and has been a respected and important part of this staff for 40 years. We will miss him and wish him all the best.” Ron and his wife, Ellie, have four children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He remains actively involved in ranching on the family farm west of Williston.

American State Bank & Trust Company Board Member John McGinley will retire from his active board position on December 31, 2008, after 37 years of service to the bank. John began his service to ASB&T as President and Board Member in 1971, and upon his retirement as President in 1990, continued in his role on the Board of Directors. ASB&T Chairman of the Board Patrick Sogard recently announced that, upon John’s retirement, the current Board of Directors shall bestow on him the distinction of Director Emeritus. Originally from Anaconda, MT, John graduated from Carroll College in Helena, MT, in 1950 with a Bachelors degree in history and business. After graduation, he began his work in the banking industry back home in Anaconda, then moving to Thief River Falls, MN, and Hastings, NE, all with what is now Wells Fargo. In 1971, John accepted the position of President at ASB&T, and he and his family moved to Williston. John quickly became, and remains, an active member of the Williston community, and has served on countless committees and community projects. He is a Past President of the North Dakota Bankers Association and was named to the Carroll College Football Hall of Fame in 1986. John’s true Irish heritage prompted him to form the “Dublin Boys” vocal group several years ago. They continue to be a feature of the ASB&T St. Patrick’s Day celebration. ASB&T President Frank Keogh said, “John’s leadership abilities and his commitment to our community have helped make American State Bank & Trust Company a solid, strong financial institution that has seen continued growth over many years.” John and his wife, Marilyn, have four children. They continue to reside in Williston.
