Legit hair pop and shine with out the oil residue. This is the best show day hair product we have ever used. Shock that lifeless flat show day hair back to life with Sullivan’s Shock. This mixture of all natural ingredients creates a show day hair pop like no other. Not only does it penetrate deep forcing the hair to stand at attention but it also gives a deeper, fuller look to the hair while also adding a shine without any oil residue that weighs the hair down. You can also use Sullivan’s Shock before clipping to make the hair rise for an easier, smoother clip. Sullivan’s Shock is a ready- to-use product, no dilution needed.
Sullivan’s
Stretch Cadillac
TM
•Expands from 6.5’ to 9’ •Extra Fitting Space •Anti-Slip Halter Feature Everyone asked for a larger chute with more room to fit, but would also easily fit in your trailer; well your wish is our command. Sullivan’s Cadillac Stretch Chute is the most unique chute to date. With a telescoping aluminum foundation, the Stretch can expand from a 6.5ft compact storage mode to an impressive 9ft show day mode, making it both the smallest and largest grooming chute on the market. Designed with the showman in mind. In storage mode, the Cadillac Stretch will fit practically anywhere in your trailer and in show day mode the Stretch will give you extra length to hold your largest animal. Allowing you to have space behind to work around. Each extension has a built-in stopper to keep pieces secure. Also included on this chute is a ridged area on the headpiece that prevents the halter from sliding down the bars when tied. The Cadillac Stretch comes complete with a two piece padded floor.

Fat, Fleshing Ability and Show Heifers

Herdsman selThe late Kenny Eppers (long-time sale bull herdsman at dom bred yearlings to calve as two year olds. Following the the infamous Northern Pump Hereford Operation) told me show season, heifers were turned out to pasture and “deconditioned.” Most were bred as two year olds to calve as over 35 years ago that fitters and groomers had the ability

three year olds. From a nutrition perspective, the enemy in terms of energy is starch. For market steers starch is a good thing; it results in an energy dense diet that has a propionate fermentation in the rumen resulting in increased marbling. The primary sources of starch most feeders utilize are corn, milo, barley, and oats. A problem with high corn diets is uneven finish along the upper rib. Show heifers of today simply do not need much starch in their diet. I recommend high fiber based diets for show heifers that contain just enough starch in the form of steam flaked shelled corn to keep the heifers feces slightly firm. High fiber based diets, just as high concentrate diets (shelled corn based) often result in loose feces bordering on diarrhea. I recommend limiting steam flaked corn to 1-2 pounds per day. Steamed flaked corn is expensive, but it is more effective and digestible than cracked corn. Personally, I feed heifers diets high in beet pulp and haylage. In fact, the “concentrate” in my diets is protein supplement and beet pulp. Yes, I treat beet pulp as a concentrate. That means I limit the beet pulp in the diet to about 2–4 pounds per feeding. And, I feed more beet pulp plain (without molasses) than I feed beet pulp with molasses. There is too much energy in beet pulp with molasses for today’s easy-fleshing cattle. A side note, I have heard a lot of barn talk about beet pulp resulting in heifers with too much brisket and “front.” Most barn talk is worth what you pay for it. The reason some heifers get too much brisket when fed beet pulp is they are fed beet pulp with molasses. Beet pulp with molasses contains too

much sugar, and sugar (glucose + fructose) results in diets too high in energy. Just like feeding diets high in shelled corn; these diets contain too much energy, because corn is high in starch (glucose) and heifers fed diets high in corn grain develop too much brisket. The fault is not the beet pulp, it is the energy in the beet pulp with molasses and the fact that too much beet pulp with molasses is fed. Beet pulp without molasses is much lower in energy and is a more effective lower colon filler and rear flank developer. I also feed show heifers diets high in haylage. Haylage is lower in energy than beet pulp and contains more nutritive value than other low energy feed stuffs such as ground corn cobs. When feeding large amounts of diets high in fiber, haylage results in improved digestive tract turnover compared to ground cobs. Both ground cobs and haylage can be effective if the proper amounts are included in the diet. Regarding bagged haylage, there are several brands on the market. Some products include corn and other ingredients, some include barley and some are just haylage without additives. Which product I choose depends on the heifer and her ability to flesh and get deep. On the subject of deep-bodied heifers, I have changed my perspective a little as we (the industry) have changed (improved) the ability of cattle to develop more depth of body and rear flank. If heifers contain all the other phenotypic trails we desire they just have to be deep enough. They do not have to be the deepest bodied heifer in the class. What is deep enough? I do not know, deep enough is a relative term. Oh well, that is barn talk. Tells a Story
by Shelia Grobosky
S
cattered across the countryside, you’re just as likely to notice a barn as you are a house while driving down the highway to your next destination. Just like livestock, barns come in different colors, shapes and sizes. The barns are often the centerpiece of the “home place” and often times, they out last other structures around them. That is true for the barn at Bennett Shorthorns, near Durand, Illinois. This barn, originally a milking barn built in 1846, survived even when the original house burned down during the Depression. Charlie Bennett’s grandfather built the
barn, and today Charlie’s sons, Logan and Dalton, are the fourth generations to help run cattle in the barn, which is now used as a calving barn and a place to tie and work with show heifers. “It’s more than just a barn. It’s the anchor to our family,” Charlie says as he recalls countless memories. “We have more memories in there than we do in our house.” The matriarch of the family, Charlie’s mom Jean, recounts the changes she has seen in the barn over the years. At one time, multiple species including cattle, horses, pigs and chickens
shared the barn, noting that the setting hens would roost up in the hay loft and would be let outside for 30 minutes each day. The back part of the barn had plank floors where the horses were stalled, and the pigs had pens underneath the horses. The original barn has been added onto twice, and several changes have been made. One part of the barn hasn’t changed, and that is the cupola. “The cupola was made for ventilation, and it was very important to Dale (Charlie’s dad). It was going to stay on that barn, and it has,” Jean says.
Every Barn Tells a Story Cont.
Jean and Dale, Dale’s dad and his brother milked cows for decades in that barn. They would milk 25 to 30 cows by hand each day. When Charlie and his wife Tricia moved back to the farm, they modernized the barn adding a milking machines and a pipeline, which allowed them to milk up to 80 cows per day. “We milked cows because we were trying to pay for the farm. It was our bread and butter,” Jean says. “When I turned 65, the cows went and Dale was sure we were going to starve.” After the dairy cattle were dispersed, Charlie gutted the barn, converting it into more of a beef cattle facility. It stays warm in the winter, making it ideal for calving – one of its uses today. Another newer feature to the barn is a barn quilt on the south side of the barn. The North Star pattern was painted by Jean on her dining room table. Her children told her they wanted to give her a barn quilt, and she insisted she paint one herself.
“That barn isn’t just a structure,” Charlie says. “Every day I go out there I can feel my dad with me. He used to hide my mom’s Christmas presents in the barn.” The Round Barn at Springhill Herefords Nearly 600 miles southwest of the Bennett’s family barn stands a round barn in the Kansas Flinthills that is also used daily by multi-generations of the David and Delores Stump family. David Stump’s dad purchased the farm that features the round barn from Irish settlers, the Drennan family. The Drennans built the round barn that is 92 feet in diameter and 40 feet from the bottom to the cupola on top. The large haymow can hold up to 230 tons of loose hay. The barn was constructed in 1911, and cost approximately $3,000 to build. Benton Steele of Halstead, Kansas, designed the round barn. Its unique structure left no flat surface exposed to the harsh Kansas wind. A trolley system was designed to feed loose hay around the perimeter from the haymow, and 100 head of cattle could be fed at once. And ironically enough, the Drennans were Hereford breeders who also encouraged David’s dad to buy his first Hereford cows. “The barn is the central hub to our operation,” says Angie Stump-Denton, David’s oldest daughter. “Everything about the yearly management of our cow herd centers around the barn.” Today, the Stump family uses the barn on a daily basis for its Hereford operation. They calve first-calf heifers in it, wean calves in the fall, and David and Delores’s grandkids tie up and start the halter breaking process on their show calves in the round barn. Youngest daughter, Kim, and Dan Schmidt were married in the round barn in 2003. Since then, a scale and working chute tub system has been built in the center of the barn, so cattle can be worked inside, out of the elements. David recalls one summer when they had big round bales stored in the barn; as he was eating breakfast one morning, he looked out the window to see smoke coming out of the barn. His heart sunk as he called the fire department. He got the flames
extinguished with a hose, and used a loader tractor to move burning bales out of the barn quickly. No part of the barn was damaged, even though some of the bales continued to burn. Last summer, after a bad hail storm the previous fall, the barn had to be reshingled, with the old shingles coming off clear to the rafters. Angie, who has an eye for photography, said it was very neat to take photos from the inside of the barn shooting to the sky. Angie says some great family memories have happened in that iconic round barn from her little sister’s wedding to a 100year celebration for the barn in 2011. She also recalls that the barn was her sanctuary during her growing up years. “Anytime I wanted to get away, I would hideout in that barn with my cows, cats and dogs,” she says. “I have a lot of memories there and I’m so glad my boys, nieces and nephews are creating their own memories in the barn.” Two barns, countless memories, more to come At Cabin Creek Angus, near Clinton, Wisconsin, Ken Luety shares memories at the two barns on his farm and the farm where he was raised. The long, beam-constructed barn where Ken grew up was built in the 1940s, and Ken has memories of him and his sisters loading hay up to the hayloft on a “new” pulley system when they were kids. They could load and move eight bales at a time through the front of the barn, quite efficient back in the day. That particular barn has seen a variety of livestock during its life, originating as a milking barn. When the dairy cows were sold, they put calving pens in the barn, and it housed beef cattle. Later after quite a bit of work on the inside, it became a farrowing house. Then they used it again for cows, then pigs, and now can house cattle again, and is complete with a working chute inside. It still has the original milk house, and Ken has kept in tip-top shape. When Ken and his wife, Marcia, were first married, they dreamed of owning their own farm, and when that dream became reality, they never expected to find what they did with the barn on that farm. Ken says the barn that was on
that farm was painted on just the front and the side closest to the road, where traffic drove by. Those two sides were painted yellow, with black trim – just paint – around the windows. The other two sides – out of sight from the public – weren’t painted at all. The barn at Ken’s has most recently served as a show barn for his youngest daughter, who showed cattle and hogs. It is cool with good ventilation, and has cooler room for steers and a wash rack for both species. Ken is looking forward to the day his grandchildren might want to show livestock, and he has a place ready for them. “Every barn tells a story, and it has been a lot of fun to repurpose both of these barns over the years,” Ken says. About five years ago, he put new siding on both barns to make sure the barns stayed in good condition and will last for future generations. “We added siding and windows to these barns. We want to bring them back to life.” n

aus·pi·cious: giving or being a sign of future success The purpose of the Arkansas Jr. Cattlemen’s Association is to promote the welfare of the cattle industry, to further the education and cooperation of young people interested in cattle and the beef industry.
ajca
2017 - Let’s Make This One Count! By Zachary Andrews, AJCA President Let’s face it, some people are always a little bit more excited about the New Year than others. I would have to say I am one who gets excited. Each year is a new start. Each year is a new page in a new book. Each year brings new friends and new opportunities. I cannot wait to lead the AJCA through this year with a team full of great people! My first thought thinking about the New Year is the big shoes I am going to have to fill. I want to thank Sarah Caldwell for serving the AJCA this past year and for her guidance to me throughout the year. Sarah did an amazing job as a selfless leader. I hope that I will be able to fill the expectations she has set for me. Like always, the AJCA is going to hit the ground running. We are heading straight into the sanctioned show season. With this we are going to meet new people and make some more friends. I want to challenge each and every one of you to make some new friends. To all of the older members, I challenge you to be someone that is worth looking up to. With this New Year comes new responsibilities like being a mentor to younger showmen who are just getting the hang of things.
146 January/February 2017 • theshowcircuit.com
We all have had some older exhibitor or adult to look up to. I challenge you to be that person or that role model. This year is going to be chalked full of good times. I encourage everyone to participate in every single activity that includes all the shows, the fitting contest, workshops and clinics, the speaking contest, the photography contest, fundraisers, and our annual convention and Super Saturday event. You will never know what you’re good at unless you try. One of my goals throughout this year is to increase participation in our photography contest, our public speaking contest, and our fitting contest. Let’s set our goals and shoot for the stars. We can do anything we set our minds to achieving. This year may just be your year to shine. I challenge you to set some goals and go beyond your expectations. Because of organizations like the Arkansas Junior Cattlemen’s Association youth are able to reach their goals. So let’s all come together, reach our goals, and let’s make this one count!

THE SHoW CIrCUIT ANNoUNCEMENTS
Douthit Families named 2017 Friend of the National Western The Douthit families of St. Francis, Kansas, represented by Douthit Herefords and 4V Ranch Douthit Herefords, will be recognized in January as the 2017 Friend of the National Western by the Red Meat Club of Denver. A perennial fixture as Yards exhibitors, 2017 will mark the families’ 74th year exhibiting purebred Hereford cattle at the National Western. Frank and Mary Douthit settled in northwest Kansas in the 1930s, and shortly thereafter sons Jim and Thad bought the family’s first Hereford bull. After Thad turned to commercial operations in the 1970s, the Douthit Herefords tradition continued under brother Jim and his three sons, Walter, Roger, and Steve, who took over as partners in 1984. Primarily for estate planning purposes, in 2008 the brothers dissolved their partnership. While Roger turned to running commercial cattle after that, Walter and Steve continued the seed stock operation as Douthit Herefords and 4V Ranch Douthit Herefords, respectively. The brothers at the time divided the Douthit cowherd on a lottery basis. Although that common genetic foundation still yields a lot of similarities between the two operations, some variation in type and design has inevitably emerged as each operation independently makes selection and breeding decisions based on personal preferences and customer demands. Despite that variation, certain themes continue that have placed the Douthit’s at the forefront of the Hereford breed for roughly 80 years. For the cattle, structure, disposition, calving ease and feed efficiency are paramount traits. And for the families themselves, honesty, integrity, and consistency are the guiding principles. It’s a combination that has won the Douthit family the respect of their peers, as evidenced by the induction of Walter, Roger, and Steve into the American Hereford Association Hall of Fame in 2012. Today, the fourth generation of the family is actively managing both operations. Roger passed in 2013, and Steve was lost in a tragic farming accident in the fall of 2015. 4V Ranch is guided today by the family of Steve and his wife Melva, including their children Ana, Erica, Margo, Courtney and Thomas, their sons-in-law Tyler Enfield and Matt Gattshall and their grandsons Zarik and Quade. Walter, his daughter Megan and her husband Chuck Downey direct operations at Douthit Herefords. The Douthit’s will be honored at the Red Meat Club dinner on Thursday, January 12, 2017, held in the National Western Club. This year’s featured speaker is meat industry leader and NWSS executive board member Mark Gustafson. Drawing on more than 38 years’ experience in promoting and advancing U.S. red meat exports, Mark will speak on “International Markets:
Past, Present & Future.” Those interested in attending should contact Anneliese Phippen at (303)299-5556 to see if reservations are still available. – NWSS
New Angus Event Headlines Denver Activities By Crystal Albers – Angus Media Denver’s historic Stadium Arena, the heart of the National Western Stock Show (NWSS), was built in 1909 to celebrate the growth and viability of the West’s ranching industry. Today, its brick walls, steel columns and distinctive green chairs still bear witness to dozens of cattle shows each year, and the old building remains a symbol of the forward-leaning optimism of ranchers. On Jan. 11, 2017, a new evening event will grace the Stadium Arena to not only celebrate the heritage of ranching, but also the unprecedented, century-plus expansion of Angus into the West. Sponsored by Merial, the event will feature a bull sale, a fundraising auction and live entertainment. It’s also open to any cattle producer interested in attending with additional support from Neogen GeneSeek Operations. “We’re excited to host this event in Denver, and we want all ranchers to know they’re welcome to attend,” says Allen Moczygemba, American Angus Association CEo. “our goal is to renew our commitment to the National Western Stock Show, and to reinvigorate the interest of commercial producers and others in Angus events in Denver.” The sale also includes the Angus Foundation Heifer Package, featuring Basin Lucy 6265, a female donated by the Stevenson family and Basin Angus Ranch of Joliet, Mont. In addition to vacation packages and other auction fundraising items, several confirmed pregnancies from leading Angus seedstock operations will headline the Foundation’s fundraising offering. Consignors include 44 Farms, Cameron, Texas; Dameron Angus, Lexington, Illinois; Express ranches, Yukon, oklahoma.; Pollard Farms, Waukomis, oklahoma; and Vintage Angus Ranch, Modesto, California. The evening wraps up with live entertainment provided by Texas country band Jake Hooker and the outsiders. A dance floor as well as refreshments will be provided. “This will be a fun event for anyone who has interest in ranching or Angus cattle,” adds Moczygemba. “It represents a great opportunity to see and buy Angus cattle, to support the Angus Foundation, and to also see old friends and make new ones.”
BeeF GeNetics eDucatioN team aNNouNces National essay contest
Youth participating in 4-H, FFA, or junior beef breed organizations are encouraged to compete in a national essay contest. Essays should respond to the prompt “What does it mean to be a beef breeder in the 21st century?” The winning essay will be published in one of BEEF magazine’s online newsletters (e.g. BEEF Daily or BEEF Cow-Calf Weekly). The 2nd through 5th place essays will be published on A Steak in Genomics blog. We will award $500 for first, $300 for second, and $200 for third place in the contest. The first-place winner will also receive 50 GeneMax Focus or PredicGEN tests. Essays will be judged by beef genetics Extension specialists, breed association staff and trade publication staff. Essays will be judged on their ability to encourage best practices and technology adoption by describing: 1) Trust and effectiveness of beef breeding best practices and technologies, 2) Simplicity of using technology, and 3) The profit and sustainability outcomes of using best practices and technology. Essays are required to be at least 600 words long but not longer than 3,000 words. Please submit contest entries at https://missouri.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_9YwBWK2WvM7Tdsh. NcBa aNNouNces cme scholarship Recipients Ten top-notch college students, who are pursuing careers in the beef industry, have been chosen for $1,500 CME Beef Industry Scholarships. The scholarship is sponsored by the CME Group and administered by the National Cattlemen’s Foundation (NCF). Taylre Sitz of Bozeman, Mont., is the overall essay winner. The CME Beef Industry Scholarship was introduced in 1989 in partnership with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Today this scholarship tradition remains strong by recognizing and encouraging talented college students who will one day be industry leaders. The National Cattlemen’s Foundation and the CME Group are committed to the future of the cattle industry and continue to support outstanding youth in the beef community. “We cannot emphasize enough how grateful we are for the continuous support from CME for Beef Industry Scholarships to provide financial assistance for future beef leaders,” said John Lacey, chair of NCF Board of Trustees. “Each year we are impressed with the caliber of students that apply for these scholarships.” In addition to the $1,500 scholarship, Taylre Sitz receives a trip to Nashville, Tennessee, for the 2017 Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show where she will be recognized at the Best of Beef Awards Breakfast. Sitz currently attends Montana State University where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, as well as a minor in Business Administration. She is currently enrolled in the pre-veterinary program with plans to become a large
animal veterinarian. “Growing up on a ranch, I developed a commitment to the beef industry at an early age,” Sitz said. “I am interested in becoming a large animal veterinarian, and through ranch life I have been able to see and visit as they doctored cut horses or lame cattle. These experiences only furthered my desire to pursue the large animal veterinary career. In her essay, Sitz tackled the question of describing a risk confronting the beef industry and a solution to that risk by describing the risk of decreasing consumer confidence. Sitz wrote about the importance of using education through social media as a tool to improve consumer confidence in the beef industry. Other $1,500 CME Scholarship winners are: Thor Burnside, Fort Hays State University, Talala, oklahoma Cole Grisham, West Texas A&M University, Van Vleck, Texas Emily Ivey, Land Lake College, Loudon, Tennessee Abby Marion, University of Florida, Deltona, Florida Garrett Nichols, Iowa State University, Marshalltown, Iowa Dan Johnson, Kansas State University, Dillion, Montana Shelby Schiefelbein, Texas A&M University, Kimball, Minnesota Madison Slaven, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virgina rachel Waggie, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas To learn more about scholarship opportunities and additional youth support from the NFC visit:www.nationalcattlemensfoundation.org/

aDmiNistRatioN Releases Destructive GiPsa Rules
WASHINGToN (Dec. 14, 2016) – Jeopardizing U.S. livestock producers, USDA released their final rulemaking on the 2010 Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Act. Tracy Brunner, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association president said these provisions are very similar to the 2010 proposed rules that industry groups have consistently voiced concern over. He also pointed out that Congress has repeatedly defunded the rules due to the staggering harm they would cause industry. “The GIPSA rules are especially troubling to the cattle industry,” said Brunner. “As we have consistently stated, if adopted, this rulemaking will drastically limit the way our producers can market cattle and open the floodgates to baseless litigation. In a time of down cattle markets, the last thing USDA needs to do is limit opportunity. The fact of the matter is, we don’t trust the government to meddle in the marketplace.” USDA has announced the new GIPSA regulations include an interim final rule on competitive injury and two proposed rules to address undue preference and the poultry grower ranking system. While USDA has provided a 60day comment period, the interim final rule will take effect 60 days from the date of publication. “USDA is going well beyond their statutory limitations, limiting marketing options for a product that America is demanding,” said Brunner.” If USDA was interested in real solutions rather than increased government regulations, they wouldn’t have rushed these rules out the door at the very close of the Administration’s term, bypassing any input from industry. Cattlemen and women don’t appreciate Secretary Vilsack throwing a grenade in the building as he abandons it.” – NCBA
FeeD cost outlook:
Will this year’s record crop carry cattle producers through 2017? In the Dec. 19 issue of In the Cattle Markets, Dr. Brian Williams with Mississippi State University, explains: “…we will likely see prices come down at least slightly, but the change in fundamentals suggest that the bleeding has stopped. Despite the improving cattle market fundamentals, according to LMIC’s latest projections, cow-calf returns for 2016 will be negative for the first time since 2009. “This brings up something that I have been talking to producers about for months: cost management. While a good marketing plan can help to a certain extent, opportunities to price cattle above the cost of production are going to be limited if nothing is done to manage costs. Fortunately for the cattle industry, there should be many opportunities for lowering costs over the next year. “Harvest is wrapped up for most corn producers across
192 January/February 2017 • theshowcircuit.com
the U.S., and all indications are that producers brought in a record corn crop. Yields topped 175 bushels/acre nationally, and total production was over 15 billion bushels for the first time ever. With a stocks to use ratio of more than 16%, it is unlikely that we will see corn prices above $4.00/ bu for any sustained period of time for at least the first half of 2017. “With that being said, I do expect to see lower corn production and potentially higher corn disappearance next year. We just published our 2017 crop planning budgets, and depending on the type of production system used, the net returns for corn and soybeans are similar. However, because soybean prices have fared better than corn prices over the past year, and factoring in the reduced risk due to the lower cost of production associated with soybeans, I fully expect to see fewer acres of corn planted in 2017. “At the same time, the beef, poultry and swine industries are all expanding production, which means higher feed use. The EPA also recently announced an increase in the renewable fuels mandate, which will provide a small boost to ethanol production, will also increase demand for corn. The reduced production and expected increase in corn demand may provide a small boost to corn prices in the second half of 2017, however barring any widespread natural disaster, the large stocks will likely limit any upward movement in corn prices. That is some much needed good news for the cattle industry. “Cow-calf producers are more heavily reliant on grass pasture as a primary feed source for a significant portion of the year. There has been some good news in 2016 on that front: pasture rental rates were down in 2016, and are expected to be even lower in 2017. In the Plains States, pasture rental rates were down about 1% in the first half of 2016 while pasture rents were down 2.2% in parts of the Corn Belt and Southeast. Mississippi saw an even sharper decrease in pasture rents, with nearly a 25% reduction in rental rates from 2015 to 2016. As more rental agreements are renegotiated this winter and with cattle prices much lower than they have been over the last couple of years, I fully expect to see lower pasture rental rates again in 2017. “So, with lower grain prices and lower pasture rental rates there are plenty of opportunities for producers to cut costs. Depending on the region, there are many other opportunities to cut costs as well. For cattle producers through the Corn Belt, grazing corn residual may present a cheap alternative to feeding hay over the winter. In the Southeast, producers can graze cattle on winter forages, although such opportunities may be limited this year due to drought. In the Southern Plains, there is winter wheat pasture. There are many other alternatives that I have not mentioned, however, the most important thing that producers can do when weighing alternatives is to put the pencil to the paper. Understanding the costs associated with each alternative will help producers choose the best option for their own situation, and ultimately could mean the difference between making and losing money during periods of falling cattle prices.” – Livestock Marketing Info. Introducing... From the home of Star-Glo Top Dress
STAR
Star IgnIter ProvIdeS... • Multiple sources of digestion enhancers • Prebiotics and Probiotics • L-arginine - a natural vascular dialator • An all-natural approach to replacing hard-to-get antibiotics
estive Aid
The Ultimate Dig
I had the privilege of feeding Starmaster Igniter last year to all our lambs, which included roughly 45 fair lambs, replacement ewe lambs and wethers that we sold as 4-H and FFA projects. All the lambs had Starmaster Igniter added to their daily diet starting right in the creep until the day they were sold. Under the various stresses of temperature chan ges, traveling, exercising and the extreme stress of going to shows, we did not have one lamb get a respirator y illness or go off feed the entire year. Their appetites remained aggressive at all times. I’m confident that it was Starmaster Ignit er that was responsible for keeping our lambs healthy and thriving under every condition that was thrown at them. Whether you are adding it to a show feed or your own rations, it works! It is a guara ntee that Starmaster Igniter will always be a part of our lambs’ daily diet. Grand Champion Market Lamb, 2016 NAILE Congratulations, Zac Howell!
Showmaster Show Feeds has known for years what it takes to make champion show animals... the right combination of all the puzzle pieces. Star-Glo Top Dress is on such puzzle piece and has done a fantastic job of creating the best possible outcome on the outside of the animal. Now, Starmaster Show Feeds introduces another puzzle piece, for the inside of the animal. With increasing difficulty in accessing needed antibiotics, it’s more important than ever to create and maintain a healthy animal. Star Igniter helps develop the best environment for beneficial microbes in the digestive tract while helping to eliminate negative microbes.
Feed the good bugs... starve the bad! By doing this, the animal’s immune system stays strong, and is key in combatting the challenges of the show circuit, such as stress of competitive mingling, transporting, and summer heat. Healthy Gut = Healthy Animal Star Igniter product will be available at the upcoming Premier 10 / Midwest Elite Lamb & Goat show and sale!
