On Nov. 13, Weber State University’s student senate discussed the LGBT Resource Center and the new Campus Climate website, where students can report and find information of on-campus incidents. The meeting started with how the LGBT Resource Center celebrated Transgender Day of Remembrance. On Nov. 14, there was an Awareness Day session at 11:30 a.m. in the Shepherd Union game room. On Nov. 15, there was a documentary screening held in the same location, followed by a community dinner. Jessica Oyler, vice president for Student Access and Success, announced the new Campus Climate website to address the recent incidents that took place on campus during the fall 2023 semester. Students will be able to report incidents on campus and track incidents that have occurred for updates, meaning the website will also act as a long-term archive of those incidents. “Really, it provides information about what incident you’ve observed or anything else that you can share about it,” Oyler said. “It does provide an opportunity to be anonymous and to upload photos that you might have, and then that will go to the campus climate teams, then they will work to put incidents on the website and then communicate back out at that point.” The Campus Climate Team is currently discussing how they will send out notifications of these incidents. Currently, students receive an announcement for incidents, moving forward, the website will be the new resource for students to find out more information about incidents. Previous incidents such as the swastika found earlier this semester and the racist slurs graffitied on the stop sign are not currently included in the archive. However, after suggestions from the student senators, Oyler said they may include the incidents that occurred from the beginning of the fall semester. Salayellece Neal, event chair for the NAACP student chapter at WSU, asked Oyler when students will get a public apology for the recent incidents on campus. “All we really want is for somebody to just stand up and be like, ‘We’re sorry this is hap-

pening to you guys,’” Neal said. Oyler said WSU is trying to have a place where the university can be more transparent about incidents on campus and how it can respond. “I’m sorry that these things are happening,” Oyler said. “What we’re trying to do is move with action.” Another issue community members and senators brought up was to change the name of the website so students do not confuse Campus Climate with climate change efforts. The student senate then addressed providing resources for a fundraiser charity ball sponsored by Fraternity and Sorority Life that gives proceeds to the Christmas box house. The student senate also approved a motion to fund $800 for a Veterans Appreciation and Nurses Appreciation soup luncheon at the Davis Campus. The funding will be provided by Veteran Student Senator Alex Healy from a previous fundraising event that occurred last week.

Patience Bisamaza speaking about an event at the Senate Meeting.

Life que da ganancias a Christmas box house.

Kicking off the 2023-24 season with a 96–62 win over Benedictine University on Nov. 7 at the Dee Events Center, Weber State University’s men’s basketball team traveled to Moraga, California, for the first away game in the 2023 season to face off against Saint Mary’s College of California on Nov. 12. After two quarters of play, the Wildcats upset No. 23-ranked Saint Mary’s 61–57. Junior forward Dillon Jones led the game in scoring and rebounding with a career high of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Jones also played all 40 minutes of this game to lead the Wildcats to victory. “You know, I really thought going into the game if we play well then we have a chance, I really felt like our ball screen coverage is a strength of ours and if we executed and made a few shots we could have had a chance,” head coach Eric Duft said. This victory was Weber State’s first win over a ranked opponent in 23 years. Heading into halftime the Wildcats were down 37–26 and managed to come back from a 16 point deficit in the second half to stun the Gaels. Weber State went on a 22–4 run in the remaining 13 minutes of the game to take their first lead of the night. Both teams shot a total of 40% from the field during the game. Saint Mary’s shot a total of

55 perfect in the first half but only 25% in the second half. The Wildcats shot 29% in the first half from the field and 50% from the field in the second half. The Wildcats forced 9 turnovers in this upset and shot a total 9 of 11 from the free throw line. On top of Jones’ 29 point performance, Steven VerPlancken and Alex Tew each had 8 points and Dyson Koehler added 7 points to the stat sheet. “Preparation meet opportunity tonight, these guys prepared and they’re good players so when it’s time to make the plays it was presented to them and it was their night to make them,” Jones said. After starting the season out 2–0, the Wildcats will be now traveling to Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, for the Atlantic Slam this Friday-Sunday. The Wildcats will face off against Garnder-Webb, Yale and Colgate. After leading the Wildcats to a 2–0 start to start off the 2022-23 spring season, Jones was named one of the National Players of the Week. Jones is one of five players to have earned this award this last week. Jones is the first Wildcat to earn National Player of the Week since Damian Lillard did it back in 2012. He’s also the first player to receive this honor since 2017. Jones was also named the Big Sky player of the week for the ninth time at Weber State. Share this story at thesignpostwsu.com

Anna:Graduation photos are an important part of commemorating that cap and gown graduation moment, but it can be difficult figuring out the perfect set-up to capture those commemorative photos. This photo map gives you the perfect visual as to those locations around Weber State University’s campus for you to pose for the camera in your graduation get-ups, that are both photo-worthy and represent your Wildcat roots here at Weber State. If you’re still in need of some further inspiration for those big photos, try out a variety of poses and angles that capture the importance and the celebration of your graduation day. A very popular one is to use your cap and gown as props for your photos. You can throw them up in the air — or at least pretend to so you don’t lose it to the wind — have your gown draped over your shoulder or even be putting them on over your planned outfit, just to give you a chance to show off your outfit as well as your cap and gown. Don’t forget to use the locations shown around campus to your benefit alongside those poses; they can go along well in capturing your memories of being a Wildcat here at Weber State and your journey forward after you graduate. Sara: With graduation just around the corner, we’d like to share 10 grad photo-worthy areas on campus: 1.The W rock. This is an obvious place for graduation photos because you can show off

your school pride. 2. The clock tower. There are many different areas around campus where you can take photos with the clock tower in view. The clock tower is an iconic Weber monument that is perfect for graduation photos. 3. The south side of the Wattis Business building. Wattis has reflective walls that create an aesthetic background for photos. 4. The duck pond. Currently, the duck pond is under renovation. However, once that’s done, it should be returned to a beautiful place that would make for a great on-campus photoshoot. 5. Stairs leading to the top of campus. Using stairs in your photoshoot can allow for less awkward posing by giving you a place to sit. The stairs leading up to the top of campus are framed with trees and shrubs, making it picture-worthy. 6. The grass area behind the Stewart Library. This area has plenty of trees, which is great for posed portraits. 7. The murals inside the Kimball Visual Arts Center. In the arts center, there are murals on the wall viewable from the first floor that follow up the stairs to the second. These murals would be a good background for a photoshoot. 8. North of the Marriott Health building. Next to Marriott, there is a scenic area where you can take nature photos with the mountains in the background. 9. Another iconic monument to take graduation photos with at Weber is the Louis F. Moench statue on the west end of the Ogden campus. 10. Outside Shepherd Union on the north side. The wall on the north of Shepherd Union has vines growing on brick, creating a pretty background for photos.

State.

With December quickly approaching, the number of Weber State University events is slowly fizzling out to make way for the end of the semester. However, Ogden is continuing to put on activities in light of the holiday spirit. Christmas Village A long-held Ogden tradition will continue this year opening on Nov. 25 and going all throughout the month of December. The accumulation of lights plastered on every surface and the miniature houses on display make for a charming and fun ambiance. The lights will be turned on at 5 p.m. every day. Christmas Village is free to everyone.

The Nutcracker To kick off the holiday season, WSU’s Browning Center will be hosting Ballet West’s performance of The Nutcracker from Dec. 1-3. Blacklight Bouldering Comp With a $15 entry fee, individuals will have the opportunity to compete in a glow-in-thedark climbing competition in WSU’s Outdoor Recreation Center on Dec. 1. Competitors will first cover themselves in blacklight-luminescent clothing and will then begin bouldering. Avalanche Charity Ball WSU Fraternity and Sorority Life is putting on a charity ball on Dec. 2 where all the money earned will be donated to the Christmas Box House. There will be a live DJ and a dance floor. Entry is $5 a person.

Winter Around the World Held on Dec. 7, Winter Around the World is an event for students to familiarize themselves with different cultural clubs throughout campus. Students will learn about each club’s country of origin and said country’s different holiday traditions. Students will receive a punch card, and if they visit all the clubs, they will be entered into a drawing to win a prize. A Christmas Carol All show-lovers will be pleased to hear that the Hopebox Theatre’s showing of “A Christmas Carol” is just one of many plays being performed in Weber and Davis County from Dec. 8-23. Located in Kaysville, this December activity caters well to the locational needs of individuals attending the WSU Davis Campus and those living in Davis County.

Breakfast With Santa In this ticket-required event, Santa and Mrs. Clause will attend a breakfast and carnival at Christmas Village on Dec. 9. The breakfast menu includes a variety of food. Following the meal, magicians, face painters, elves, balloon artists and more will provide entertainment for all in attendance. The Crystal Festival Held at The Monarch on Dec. 17, this oneday crystal market is a great place to escape the cold and get all holiday shopping done in one go.
