a historia de la Provincia de Ultima Esperanza está ligada a la ganadería, por lo que el Frigorífico Bories es parte importante de su pasado. Esta instalación industrial fue edificada entre 1912 y 1914 por la Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego, para faenar el ganado ovino producido en grandes estancias tanto chilenas como argentinas. La arquitectura del lugar, así como las maquinarias recuerdan estilos y técnicas clásicas de la época post Victoriana. Destacan amplias instalaciones construidas de mampostería de ladrillos, la grasería, las dependencias para el tratamiento de los cueros, un pabellón donde está la antigua herrería, el taller de reparaciones de locomotoras, la oficina central, la sala de calderas y la planta de fuerza. he history of the Province of Ultima Esperanza is closely linked to livestock farming; as such the Frigorífico Bories played an important part in this history. This industrial installation was built between 1912 and 1914 by the “Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego” to process the sheep produced on the large estancias both in Chile and Argentina. The architecture of the place, as well as the machinery, recollect the style and the classical techniques of the postVictorian era. Of particular note are the large installations constructed from brick masonry, the fat producing room, the outbuildings for the treatment of the hides, a wing where the old iron works are, the locomotive repair workshop, the central office, the boiler room and the power plant.

Gran interés presenta la sala de calderas y de máquinas: fiel testimonio del progreso industrial logrado a principios del siglo XX en la Patagonia. El frigorífico llego a faenar hasta 5.200 ovinos en un sólo día, lo que significaba más de 400 hombres trabajando para esta industria. La exportación se realizaba en los grandes barcos caponeros y laneros, los que venían en busca de productos cárneos procesados y congelados, así como la lana y el cuero; para ser llevados especialmente a Inglaterra y otros mercados europeos. The machinery and boiler room is of great interest; it is a faithful testimony to the industrial progress achieved at the beginning of the 20th century in Patagonia. The Frigorífico was able to process 5,200 sheep in one day which meant that more than 400 men were working in this industry. The exportation was carried out by the great mutton and wool ships which came in search of the processed and frozen meat products as well as the wool and sheepskins, which were taken especially to England as well as other European markets.
