NEW!

Where is the best location for viewing the aurora borealis? and when is a good time to take a chance? seeing the Northern Lights has long been a dream of mine, but the timing seems to be a matter of luck. —V. L., Highland, Calif.

Introducing the easy and affordable way to call, text and email for the holidays. Simple meets smart with the GreatCall® Touch3, the new smartphone from the creators of the original, easy-to-use Jitterbug.® There’s never been a better time to buy the Touch3. You’ll get $ 40 off and three of our most popular accessories, free! EASY Now you can talk, text, email, download apps and browse the Internet with ease. Unlike other smartphones that are complicated with tiny icons and multiple screens, the Touch3 is easy to use right from the moment you turn it on. Everything you want to do, from texting to taking photos, is organized in a single list on one screen with large, legible letters. This simplified approach takes all the guesswork out of using a smartphone and puts everything right at your fingertips.

Are you an adventurous type? If so, you can reduce the need for serendipity by taking a chair lift ride up to the Aurora Sky Station in Abisko National Park in Lapland, the northernmost province of Finland. This area, which is in the middle of the auroral zone, enjoys an unusual atmospheric situation that keeps it virtually free of clouds despite surrounding weather patterns, and Northern Lights can be viewed nearly every night during the winter months.

SMART Built by Samsung, the Touch3 has an ultra-modern look and has been specially designed with GreatCall’s signature simplicity. The 4-inch display and full-size on-screen keyboard make typing effortless, while the built-in camera lets you capture and share photos anywhere. The Touch3 comes preloaded with GreatCall’s award-winning medical alert apps, including 5Star® and Urgent Care, so you can get the help you need wherever, whenever you need it. AFFORDABLE Other smartphones require excessive plans that make you pay for data you don’t need. Starting at just $249 per month, GreatCall provides a variety of data plans so you’re able to add the one that works best for you. Compared to other cell phone companies, you could save over $300 per year, making the Touch3 phone plans the most affordable on the market.

Table Light Around the

Latkes of

OVEN-ROASTED SWEET POTATO-PARMESAN LATKES

» 2 large russet potatoes (about 1 ½ lbs), unpeeled » 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 ¼ lbs), unpeeled » 2 tsp kosher salt, plus more for seasoning » 4 cloves garlic, minced » 1 tsp paprika, hot or sweet » 1 tsp red pepper flakes » ½ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese » 3 large eggs, lightly beaten » ¾ cup all-purpose flour » ¼ cup vegetable oil » 2 Tbsp mayonnaise » 1 ½ cups whole milk Greek yogurt

1. Preheat oven to 450˚F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Grate russet and sweet potatoes, place in a large colander, and toss with a generous pinch of salt. Let stand 15 minutes, then firmly wring out moisture.

BROUGHT TO YOU BY Reynolds® Parchment Paper is a great choice for

baking because it provides an oven-safe, non-stick surface without adding any grease or spray, and it makes cleanup a breeze. You’ll spend more time with family and friends creating memories and less time in the kitchen!

2. Combine potatoes with garlic, 2 tsp salt, paprika, red pepper flakes, Parmesan, eggs, flour, oil and mayonnaise. Using your hands, form the mixture into 24 small pancakes, squeezing out extra moisture as you go, if necessary, and placing the latkes on the prepared baking sheets. Roast 30 minutes, flipping latkes halfway through, until browned. 3. Meanwhile, stir together yogurt with lemon juice, to taste. Season with salt, top with some of the zest, and serve with the hot latkes.

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT PREMARIN PREMARIN® (conjugated estrogens tablets, USP) is a prescription medicine that contains a mixture of estrogen hormones. PREMARIN is used after menopause for women to: • Reduce moderate to severe hot flashes. • Treat menopausal changes in and around the vagina. If you use PREMARIN only for the treatment of menopausal changes in and around the vagina, talk to your healthcare provider about whether a topical vaginal product may be better for you. • Help reduce your chances of getting osteoporosis (thin, weak bones). If you use PREMARIN only to prevent osteoporosis due to menopause, talk to your healthcare provider about whether a different treatment or medicine without estrogens might be better for you. PREMARIN should be taken at the lowest dose for the shortest time possible and only for as long as treatment is needed.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION What is the most important information I should know about PREMARIN (an estrogen mixture)? • Using estrogen-alone increases your chance of getting cancer of the uterus (womb). Report any unusual vaginal bleeding right away while you are taking PREMARIN because it may be a sign of cancer of the uterus. • Do not use estrogen-alone or estrogens with progestin to prevent heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, or dementia (decline in brain function). • Using estrogen-alone may increase your chances of getting strokes or blood clots. • Using estrogen with progestins may increase your chances of getting heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer, or blood clots. • Using estrogen-alone or combined with progestin may increase your chance of getting dementia, based on a study of women aged 65 years or older. • You and your healthcare provider should talk regularly about whether you still need treatment with PREMARIN.

DO NOT TAKE PREMARIN IF YOU: • Have unusual vaginal bleeding. • Currently have or have had certain cancers. Estrogens may increase the chance of getting certain types of cancers, including cancer of the breast or uterus. If you have or have had cancer, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you should use PREMARIN. • Have had a stroke or heart attack. • Currently have or have had blood clots. • Currently have or have had liver problems. • Have been diagnosed with a bleeding disorder. • Are allergic to PREMARIN or any of its ingredients. • Think you may be pregnant or if you are breastfeeding. Tell your healthcare provider: • If you have any unusual vaginal bleeding. • About all your medical problems. Your healthcare provider may need to check you more carefully if you have certain conditions such as asthma (wheezing), epilepsy (seizures), diabetes, migraine, endometriosis, lupus, or problems with your heart, liver, thyroid, kidneys, or if you have high calcium levels in your blood. • About all the medicines, vitamins, and supplements you take. • If you are going to have surgery or will be on bed rest; you may need to stop taking PREMARIN.

What did you think about shaving your head to play your character, Frank, and being practically naked in some scenes? “I had never played anything like that before, but the script was good and I really admire Mark Wahlberg, so I jumped.” have access to some very dangerous people,” he says. In The Interview, a couple of cocky TV reporters (played by Rogen and James Franco) land an interview with a North Korean diplomat that’s actually a cover for a high-level assassination plot. “Like, Barbara Walters could kill Osama bin Laden. That’s where it came from.”

You are in your second season of the Amazon.com political satire Alpha House. Is your character based on any real-life politicians? “No. I took what [creator] Garry [Trudeau] gave me and just used my imagination and ran with it. Sen. Gil Biggs is just a guy having a really good second career. He just forgot he really did want to help people.” Do you consider Roseanne to be your big break, and if that’s your legacy, are you OK with that? “Yeah, I’m fine with it. I had a good time. I was reminiscing recently with a director that I Email your had worked with right before I took the show. A: Definitely. Mary is the fifth in a line of Marys, dating back to her greatgrandmother, and each generation has planted pansies in their gardens. But the “Same Love” singer is always on the road, so her tattoo “garden” began with a few pansies and grew from there. “I thought it would be figurative,” Lambert says. “I also added rhododendrons— the Washington state flower—for the Pacific Northwest. The two flowers together remind me where I come from.”
