New Single From Conor Maynard Fresh from celebrating his debut album ‘Contrast’ entering the UK album charts at Number One, Conor Maynard is set to release his next single on October 8th. ‘Turn Around’ which features Ne-Yo duetting with Conor, fulfilling the promise he first saw in the young British singing sensation two years ago when his interest sparked the bidding war that eventually led to Conor signing to Parlophone Records. Produced by Stargate, ‘Turn a around’ is a brilliantly atmospheric and uplifting urban-pop track; a perfect hands-in-the-air anthem. To watch the lyric video for the track visit our website and click the music tab. Conor Maynard follows his massively successful V Festival performances this past weekend, which saw the Undercover Stage at both sites rammed beyond capacity, with an exclusive iTunes Festival Performance on September 6th, supporting JLS. He then performs at the Radio 1 Teen Awards at Wembley Arena on October 7th alongside One Direction, Taylor Swift, Little Mix and many more artists still to be announced. Conor sets off on a full UK tour in late October, performing at venues such as the Birmingham HMW Institute & the Bristol O2 Academy Visit his official website for more details

Charlie Simpson a*empts to break world record! Charlie Simpson is to attempt the world’s coldest ever gig in this November. The Fightstar front man will be performing a one-off, solo set to residents of a tiny Siberian town which holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in a populated area on earth - minus 72˚ centigrade. If successful, Charlie’s icy endeavours will earn him an official place in the Guinness World RecordsTM annals. Charlie has teamed up with Jägermeister, for the “Jägermeister Ice Cold Gig" which will see him travel to Oymyakon, the coldest permanently inhabited spot on the planet. The Russian town boasts a population of 472, no running water or electricity and is so remote that it takes up to four days to reach from the United Kingdom, including a two day drive from the nearest city, Yakutsk. With temperatures hovering around minus 40˚C, Charlie and his support team will battle sub-arctic climates so cold that mobile phones cannot function, boiling water turns to snow in mid air and fish caught from local rivers freeze instantly. Charlie said, “The Jägermeister Ice Cold Gig is by far one of the biggest challenges of my career, but I’m really excited to get out there and see a part of our planet that very few people will ever get to visit. It’s not really an option to play my guitar wearing gloves, so I just hope my fingers don’t freeze.” Charlie Simpson and his team will depart for Oymyakon on 20th November and will perform The Jägermeister Ice Cold Gig on 24th November.

The tour, which is the band’s biggest to date, will see the them showcase tracks from the new album as well as all the fans favourite hits. The tour starts in Cardiff on Nov 30th and will take in twelve dates including two shows at London’s O2 Arena.

‘Standing In The Dark’ Following on from a pair of Top Five singles, Lawson get set to release their third and possibly biggest song to date. The band are at their best when they play live and ‘Standing In The Dark’ has always brought the house down, making it the perfect choice for their third single, out October 14th. With the band’s forthcoming Hometowns Tour of intimate gigs coinciding with the much anticipated release of their debut album, Lawson are looking for an epic finish to 2012.

V Festival. Lead singer Andy Brown penned the track with bassist Ryan Fletcher about a relationship breakdown, the pain every guy feels when they see their ex with another man; a theme which runs throughout the band’s debut album. ‘Standing In The Dark’ has a slower tempo

than the previous Lawson smashes but still delivers that brilliantly catchy hook they do better than any guitar pop band in the UK right now. Watch the lyric video now: http://youtu.be/dtg-kjLpyj4

Since the band’s debut single reached No.4, the band have continued to conquer the charts, with follow-up ‘Taking Over Me’ peaking at No.3. Over the summer Lawson have also played a series of mega festival slots including: Hard Rock Calling, T in the Park and

Standing In The Dark has been our favourite song to perform live for such a long time” says Ryan from the band. “Andy and I wrote it whilst staying in a mate's flat which was overlooking the O2 Arena a couple of years ago and getting the chance to perform it earlier this year at the arena itself was a definite highlight for us as a band.” “It's without doubt the song we're most excited about releasing to date. Am sure the fans will be as thrilled as we are that it's going to be our third single before our album Chapman Square comes out. 9

GANGNAM STYLE It had to be mentioned eventually! Now over the years its fair to say that YouTube has made a massive amount of money through music, including creating celebrities that stick around better superglue. Acts such as Justin Bieber and Conor Maynard all started by being first spotted by YouTube! Which is great, however we don't want to talk about any of these! The song that we want to discuss is the new ‘single’

that has been topping the charts with a stupid amount of views, the new song from PSY called Gangnam Style! Don’t pretend you haven't heard it, its been number 1 in the charts!

constant repeat for the last week it soon becomes obvious why people are starting to love the South Korean anthem downloaded across the world at record paces.

But how one song on YouTube released 2 months ago has had over 251 million views and has topped the iTunes download chart more than a few times this month? To be honest with you, we don't really know ourselves! But after having it on

Instead of us explaining what has made this such a good song, we thought we would show you some screenshots of the video, just for you that have not seen it! Or if you want to see the best bits in image format. All images are from the YouTube video artist: OfficialPSY

Let’s have a day without shopping

Let’s have a day without shopping

all of those problems? If you really want to shop, you can at the click of a button, no matter what time or day it is. We don’t need supermarkets to open all day, taking trade away from small retailers, destroying our high streets and harming family life, just to give people that ‘choice’. Why can’t we have just one day a week when all of the big shops are shut? Surely that would make people find something else to do. They could relax, go for a walk, go to church, bake. There are so many things to do other than shopping, but maybe we need to be forced to find them by shutting the shops for a day.

These days it seems everybody’s lives revolve around shopping. No matter what This blog was originally displayed here and day it is, we go shopping. Even on was reproduced with the writer’s consent. Christmas Day people are online looking at what they can acquire next. That seems really sad when you stop and think about it. Are our lives really so dull that the most exciting thing we can do is shop? Apparently not. During the Olympics, Sunday trading laws were relaxed, allowing retailers to open their doors for longer. That move was expected to provide a much-needed boost to the economy, but, as it turns out, it didn’t. When I heard sales were actually down 0.4% on the same time last year, I was strangely pleased. It meant that instead of shopping around the clock, people had found something else to do. Admittedly, most were sitting in front of the TV watching the Olympics, but still, they weren’t shopping. But despite the fact sales fell when stores were open longer, many people still want to see the laws relaxed permanently, saying it would be more convenient for consumers, it would help the economy, and it would give people more choice about what to buy and where to buy it. But doesn’t online shopping already solve

Should schools teach politics? In 2001, turnout for the General Election hit an all-time low of just 59% - a far cry from the 83% back in 1950. In 2010, just 65% of those eligible to vote did so. With participation being fundamental to democracy, those statistics are shocking, but it’s not just low turnout we need to be concerned with – people are becoming increasingly unaware of political issues and many have little understanding of the workings of the political system in the UK. I believe it’s that lack of knowledge that translates into apathy and a general unwillingness to participate at any level, whether it be at the ballot box or through direct action. The media also doesn’t help. People are often ill-informed about current affairs, simply adopting the views of newspapers rather than establishing their own points of view. I wonder how many young people even know the name of their local MP…

Teaching just the basics, such as the election process and the backgrounds of political parties, would be a great help, possibly igniting a passion for the subject amongst many students; even those who aren’t overly interested would still absorb key information. And that’s what we need – voters who know about politics and who can make informed decisions. What we have at the moment is a population which has been brainwashed by popular media into thinking politics is for the few, rather than the many. Besides enthusing future voters, studying politics would also help young people to develop skills which would help them greatly in the future, such as decision making and debating.

It’s for reasons like this I think politics should be made compulsory in secondary school. We need to eradicate the view that politics is boring and encourage the next This blog was originally displayed here and generation of voters to develop an interest was reproduced with the writer’s consent. in the subject. 19

New website allows students to save money online GADGETS

Broadband packages can vary in cost by £300¹ a year – that’s a lot of pints! No need for students to pay through the nose for their broadband service Comparison website, Broadbandchoices.co.uk, has researched the huge array of broadband deals available in the UK and found that the difference between the cheapest and most expensive broadband deals can be as much as £251 per month. Simply by researching the best deals when choosing a broadband package suitable for their needs, cash-strapped students could save themselves £300 per year – equivalent to around 103² pints of lager! Dominic Baliszewski, telecoms expert at broadbandchoices.co.uk commented: "Broadband is not a luxury these days, but an essential utility for students - going without is not an option. The pressures on student budgets are greater than ever before as tuition fees and living expense inflation bite into already limited funds. Students need to be smart with their money, especially when you consider that they may change accommodation at a moment’s notice. Fortunately, broadband providers are aware of this and there are some great deals available." Savvy students can get a great deal on their broadband by taking into consideration things like contract length, download limits and area coverage. Follow broadbandchoices.co.uk’s top tips to find the broadband deal that’s right for you: Timescale - Students can move around over the course of a year so this will affect your choice of either mobile or fixed line broadband. If you think you may move from place to place, opt for a mobile or short term contract. Virgin Media has a 9 month contract deal, offering students the choice of unlimited broadband and calls with or without TV. Look beyond short-term - Whilst shorter term contracts provide the ultimate in flexibility, they often don't come with the best terms. If you know you and your mates will be sharing the house for 12-18 months then compare all the options available on an Ofcom accredited site in order to find the best deal. Check your coverage - If you opt for mobile broadband, it won't be much use if your chosen provider doesn't have coverage in your area - rural areas are particularly unreliable. It is essential to do a postcode search with your chosen provider before signing up as patchy coverage could mean you are left without a connection when you need it most. Most mobile broadband providers offer a money back satisfaction guarantee in the first few days, so you can test the connection in your home. But if the signal is poor, don't delay in taking it back

Be Your Own Boss There are some fantastic business programmes on TV this autumn, including favourites like Dragons’ Den and Young Apprentice. But now, thanks to Richard Reed, there’s a new business show. As co-founder of Innocent, he’s known for his laidback approach to business, but this series shows us the business mind behind that image. As he watches hundreds of pitches, he quickly picks out who the big future successes could be, whether it’s because of the idea or the entrepreneur themselves. Either way, Reed has up to a million pounds of his own money to invest, and having somebody like that backing you could lead to great success. It’s well worth a watch, so check it out, Wednesdays, BBC3.

The Dragons are back. And this series is better than ever.

Hilary Devey was always respected for building up her own business empire in a male-dominated sector, but since she joined the panel of Dragons last year, she’s won an entirely new set of fans. Holding her own against the more established Dragons, Hilary is able to use her business experience to identify different avenues of potential, making this series better than ever.

But it’s not all about Hilary. No, it’s about the entrepreneurs pitching their ideas to the panel of self-made millionaires. And this year, there’s lots of fantastic new ideas, but not all can gain investment. Dragons’ Den is on BBC2 every Sunday evening. Make sure to tune in.

THE BATTLE’S BETWEEN VETTEL AND ALONSO. ARTICLE BY ADAM JONES.

ALONSO AND VETTEL BREAKAWAY FROM THE PACK IN SINGAPORE. With Vettel taking 25 points away from Singapore’s night race, he can now see Alonso just 29 points ahead of him in the race for the Drivers’ Title. Suffering with gearbox failure, Hamilton – who started the race on pole – is now more than 50 points behind Alonso. McLaren team mate, Button, is ever further back. So maybe it’s time for Button to start playing the team game and doing what he can to help Hamilton close that growing gap. After reigning World Champion, Vettel, took the victory in Singapore, Christian Horner, team boss at Red Bull, said he believes the top 6 are still in contention for the title. “The championship is wide open. It’s just annoying Fernando keeps popping up on the podium at the end of the Grand Prix.” But in reality, the title race has to be between Alonso and Vettel who are starting to break away from the rest of the pack, but nothing is ever certain in Formula 1, except for one thing: we’ve got a gripping six races remaining this season as the world’s best drivers battle it out to win the title.

SPORT

Re5red From Interna5onal Team One of the major headlines this month is the news of john Terry’s retirement which has been a major shock especially because he has been so consistent for England over the years. The main reason for this is because of the racism allegations that took place between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand. Terry was alleged to have been racist towards Ferdinand during the match between Chelsea and QPR. However, when the court case arrived the judge found Terry not guilty of using racist language towards Ferdinand. Even so the FA still begin to pursue Terry and because of this he has said his position is “untenable” which is why Terry made the difficult decision to retire from international football. This has come as a massive shock to the footballing world especially English supporters as one of England’s greatest defenders has retired. Hodgson has said that he is disappointed by his decision but reluctantly accepts his decision. So, now Hodgson has the hard task of trying to replace the England veteran with someone who is of a similar standard.

Hatton To Come Back From Retirement Ricky Hatton has announced his comeback from retirement this month after an immensely successful career winning an incredible 45 fights and losing only 2. However, the last fight he had he was knocked out quite badly by Manny pacquiao which is why many people have questioned his reasons for a comeback into boxing. However, he has made his decision and has announced his comeback at the Manchester Arena with Michael Katsidis the front runner to face him. Hatton has promised a big named opponent for his comeback because he wants to get ranked up so eventually he can have a rematch with Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. He has his work cut out though if he wants to be able to fight such big named boxers but fans will have to wait until N o v e m b e r f o r th e f i g h t

David Haye Talks Klitschko David Haye has said that the only meaningful fight available is against Vitali Klitschko and it is the only fight he is prepared to take. However, Haye has said he will not fight Klitschko in Ukraine after receiving numerous death threats. He would only be prepared to fight Klitschko if it took place in Germany which is where the majority of Klitschkos title fights have taken place. Haye says “there are crazy racists in Ukraine meaning that it would be too dangerous for him to fight there, so, unless the fight is held in Germany then the fight will definitely not go ahead. 39
