Blowing rings with cigarette smoke has been a popular trick for decades. Vaping doesn’t prevent you performing similar tricks, and aficionados are perfecting it and taking it to an extreme... not just one or two rings, but a string of them, known as Cheerios. It requires a bit of practice, but is easy to do. Here’s how. Take a long pull and inhale the vapour into your throat. Keep your tongue flat at the bottom of your mouth and pulled towards the back of your throat. Make an “O” shape with your lips and stick them out slightly. Push a small amount of vapour out, using the muscles in your throat, similar to a little cough. But if you want to stand out from the cloud crowd, why not try these vape tricks. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a newbie or an expert; we’ve something here for everyone. For the best results, use high VG juice in a sub ohm tank, and do them in a place with minimal air flow. Get ready to show off your skills!

This is a great beginner’s trick. It’s also known as a mushroom cloud, or a snap inhale, and involves releasing vapour, then snapping it back in. Take a long drag and keep the vapour in your mouth for a couple of seconds before pushing it out in a ball. As it leaves your mouth, quickly inhale it back in. Now you see it, now you don’t.

Become a true legend with this impressive trick which releases four clouds of vapour at the same time. Take a long drag, but don’t inhale it. Once your mouth is full, push it out through your nose and either side of your mouth. No dungeon required.

To create this, you whip your vapour into a tornado shape. Carefully exhale your vapour onto a flat surface, making it as thick and still as possible. Using your hand, chop at the surface then flick your wrist up and lift your arm in one swift movement. This turns the vapour into a tight twisting spiral. It needs some practice, but you’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

The Bull Ring is a trick for intermediate tricksters, and best practised in front of a mirror, combining blowing and inhaling. Start by blowing a thick medium-sized “O, then lean in and inhale the top part of the ring through your nostrils. It creates the illusion of a bull ring through your nose. Non-permanent and non-painful!

This is a crowd pleaser which is based on the classic smoke ring, but you’ll need to practice. Start by blowing a single, large “O” then immediately place your hand behind it and push slightly to make it slow down. Blow a smaller “O” through the middle of the first. The second “O” pulls the first around it, leaving a trail that resembles a jellyfish.

Advanced tricksters add colours and effects to their skills, but it’s not by adding anything to their e-liquid. Instead, look for a vape mod with colourful LEDs and vape as usual.

An experiment by Public Health England (PHE) shows the difference between one month of smoking cigarettes (16 packs) and one month of vaping. This experiment represents the amount of sticky black tar that accumulates in the lungs of a heavy smoker, collected in a bell jar. By contrast, the same nicotine intake through vaping only releases a trace of residue. In the UK alone, around 7.5 million people smoke cigarettes, based on an estimate from the Annual Population Survey. The health implications that come with smoking cigarettes are the biggest, preventable causes of death in the country.

There are lots of misconceptions around their safety. They have been called a “gateway” to smoking and that they pose a significant risk through second-hand inhalation, both of which are not true – according to the Commons Science and Technology Committee. It was found that almost 3 million people use E-cigarettes; roughly 470,000 people are using them to help them quit smoking, and while research estimates that they aren’t completely risk-free, they are potentially 95% less harmful than tobacco cigarettes. The experiment showed that every cigarette smoked caused tar to enter a person’s body and therefore poisons their blood-stream. The tar produced by smoking cigarettes is linked to such diseases like heart disease, strokes, and cancer. PHE says that although E-cigarette use did rise among young people in England up to 2015, the numbers have flattened off since. Unlike the US, the UK has tight regulations and a limit on the nicotine level in E-cigarettes. PHE believe that E-cigarettes could help many more people quit smoking, which kills half of those who take it up. Results from their smoking cessation programme showed that 65%-68% of people who used vaping as well as nicotine replacement therapies succeeded in quitting smoking.

You’ve been uploading content to YouTube since 2011. Can you remember your first video? How has your vlogging changed over the years?

I started vaping in 2010, but the channel was created in 2011. The first video was about the Hangsen Ego; it was defective and I created video for the manufacturer. My first video reviews were very boring and uncertain. Now, they are like stories from my life with jokes and humour. You’ve got a massive 197K subs! What was the process like for you, in terms of gaining such a large fan base?

Good question! I told my followers the truth about the devices, with all of the bad and good sides. Followers like me as if I were a friend, because I tell them the truth! I don’t sell my opinion about devices like others… What’s your best vaping tip?

Don’t listen to anyone, vape what you like. Don’t smoke. What made you get into vaping in the first place?

I wanted to stop smoking cigarettes; vaping is better and tasty. First vaping kit you used?

I tried a lot of Ego and 510, but I stopped smoking only with PROVARI! I have collection of Provari; the best mod ever!

Favourite device/setup and why?

I have many, but now my setup is: Vaporesso luxe (or SX mini) and Tilemahos Armed Eagle RTA (or Siren 2 RTA). Do you see what you do as a hobby or business?

It’s my life style: my hobby, my work - vaping has changed my life. I save people from smoking! Are you aware of any differences in the law, around vaping in Russia, compared to other parts of the world?

Yes I am, but I won’t quit vaping for any reason. I am a master of making liquid for myself! F*ck politics - I WILL BE VAPING! Vaping here in the UK has become big business, and even the likes of the NHS (National Health Service) are supporting it. Are the Russian government in favour of vaping?

I respect the UK vape politics - they do a lot of good for vapers! I talk in many reviews about vaping in other countries! In Russia there are a lot of bad articles about vaping, and they tell lies to our people. But on my channel; I tell the truth about vaping! What advice would you offer to smokers who are thinking of vaping?

Don’t listen to anyone! Start vaping and you will see changes in your life and health!

Depending on how much you vape, you’re likely to need to change your vaporiser coil every two to four weeks. The lifespan varies with the user, and their habits. If you don’t use your device often, it could last you several weeks. If you’re a regular user however, you could find you need a new coil every week, and that has the potential to be expensive. Whether you’re looking to save money, or take your vaping from habit to hobby, then building your own coil might be something you’ll be interested in.

Your coil will start to show signs of wear and tear when it’s time to replace. You might experience a dry, hot, burnt taste, which means the coil or wick has burned out. Damaged coils affect the way e-juice tastes, so if your flavour is less noticeable than normal, it’s time to change yours. If your e-cigarette is leaking, or making a gurgling sound when you vape, then it’s definitely time to replace your coil. And the sooner the better - persevering could cause permanent damage.

There are several types of vaping wire, each with their own characteristics and uses. Kanthal is the most common wire type, used in the majority of pre-made coils. Avoid nickel and nichrome if you have an allergy. Titanium has some vapers asking questions about its safety, and stainless steel is also an option. Wire gauge refers to the diameter of the wire, and the higher the wire gauge number, the smaller its diameter. The thinner the gauge of wire you use, the higher its resistance, and the quicker it heats. Thicker wire results in lower resistance, and is slower to heat too. If you’re new to coil building, you’ll probably want to go for a single strand wire to keep things simple, and we recommend a basic 26 or 28 gauge Kanthal wire for your first builds. It’s readily available, it’s inexpensive, and it’s very easy to work with.

You don’t need to rush out and buy a kit, but you will need some basic tools, if you want to build your coils safely. Complete kits are available from a range of retailers, but you’ll want to be sure yours includes:

If you want to, you could invest in an ohm reader to detect coil resistance (also works as a great coil base), but you can just use your mod if you prefer.

Master the basics with a common coil build. Take a single piece of wire, around 10 inches and wrap it round a small metal rod, or a coil jig. Use a narrow rod for a micro coil (an inner diameter of 1-2mm), and a wider rod for a macro (larger than 2mm). It’s that simple. The inner diameter of your coil will determine the resistance: tighter coil equals lower resistance, and vice versa. Don’t forget to leave leads (sometimes called legs), the part of the coil which goes directly into your atomiser’s post holes. If you keep one slightly longer the other, it helps when adding your coil. Now you’re ready to twist... and shout about it! Simply twist two strands of wire together into a single piece of twisted wire - how tight you twist is down to personal preference. So long as it stays together when you build your coil, it’s tight enough. If you prefer it tighter, twist but without distorting the twisted wire with kinks and bends. You’re ready to build your macro coil. Some coil builds have two coils, or dual coils. These create more vapour than a single coil. If you’re building a dual coil, it’s essential both coils are identical in size and shape, otherwise they won’t heat up properly. The key is repetition. The more you practice, the easier it will become. One of the best ways to master your technique is to watch a master at work. We recommend watching YouTube tutorials and then giving it a go yourself. Who knows, it might be you showing off your coiling skills before too long!

Vaping in the media has been varied all around the world, with laws and public opinions greatly affecting how it is perceived. In a world where a smoking cessation tool is treated like the most dangerous thing in the world, it can be hard to read some of the propaganda within the media paid for to deter future smokers making the switch. So what I want to do is take a look through some of the media perception over the years and see where the motivation truly lies.

This was the first real big story that spread across the media way back in 2015 and it revolved around a very harmful substance, Diacetyl. This story spread like wildfire and unfortunately companies got caught in the cross fire which ultimately harmed their brands. But why did this spread so much; why has it had a lasting effect on the industry? The stories which broke essentially focused on tests showing E-liquid containing a substance called Diacetyl, used for buttery flavours. Many liquids contained this as it gave a more natural flavour to things such as custard and the most famous concentrate of all contained it from Capella. The story that ran worldwide contained the now infamous disease, popcorn lung. Now the truth of the matter is that Diacetyl does cause popcorn lung in a person, but not to the level you would expect. The only case of the disease existing was from a popcorn factory where workers were breathing in extremely high levels on a daily basis. In comparison E-Liquid contained practically nothing but the media ran with the dangerous substance story all the same. Fun fact on this, a cigarette contains significantly more of the substance than vaping that among the many health issues associated with smoking, popcorn lung has not been detected. Sadly this has left a mark on the industry that, despite banning of the substance in the UK, is still hard to shift.

Another very popular story to run in the media is exploding E-cigarettes to highlight the dangers of using them. Now with any electronic device there is always the risk associated from TVs to your mobile phone. However the media perception is continuing to highlight these issues like they are a great source of negative publicity, however let’s look under the title and see what they really contain. The first thing to look out for with these types of stories is what the source content actually is. Far too many stories that use the word E-cigarette are actually focused on the battery instead and improper use. Using this one example you can see how the difference in attitude can still result in a negative story for the industry, using key words such as inches from a baby’s pram for dramatic effect. However the reality is, any sort of battery loose in a pocket with metallic objects runs the risk of exploding , the fact they focus on the word E-Cigarette is directly sourced to be scaremongering to people to deter them from making the switch. The next example for these types of stories is the vape pen explodes in someone’s pocket. As previously stated, this can happen to anyone at any time, just like any other electronic devices. However the fine print of these types of stories actually forget to emphasise the user error in these cases. Taking this story for example, it contains the same scare scaremongering text of mentioning a child etc but the actual story is somewhat different. They involve people using a mechanical mod, designed for advanced users, in an improper fashion. This story for example revolved around them roller skating with it in their pocket, other stories contain asking others to prepare the device for them. No matter what, the idea that something that is only designed for people with a full understanding are being abused by people without this knowledge is still being treated the same as a regular manufacturing fault. Vaping can be perfectly safe when proper battery care and device treatment are applied, however in the media, there is a focus more on the shock stories that disregard the facts.

Now over the past several years, away from the shock stories from the UK tabloids, vaping has never really received the same level of attention that it does over in America. So it is here we will focus on research results that call into question the motives behind the studies as it were. What you tend to see over state-side the publishing of research that has been funded by tobacco companies offering negative results to damage the image of vaping. For example there was a research result recently that confirmed you are more likely to quit smoking with vaping daily. The interesting part about this however was the same researcher 3 years ago found different results when the study was funded by tobacco. The USA seems to disregard actual studies in the fear mongering research in a way to hammer home a non existent point of making vaping safe for people. I know this may all sound a little bias coming from a vaper but there is countless studies over the years that back the safer alternative and positive findings from vaping studies. From smoking cessation, to improved health conditions to even doctors backing it as a tool for smokers. If you read the media however, this can be glossed over and the research findings that pay dialogue to how dangerous it is always making the headlines. A rule of thumb should always be, if you see a negative study, read where the research has came from before making an opinion on the matter.

Over in America, the FDA have been tasked with trying to control the vaping industry with such motives stated as the kids, health and safety. In the general sense this is all fantastic from any government appointed agency as the health and safety of its people are its up-most priority. However the motives behind their actions have been called into question numerous times. The FDA doesn’t stop there however, recently they have launched a campaign into sending the message that vaping can lead to smoking with the aim of directing that at kids. Using a famous street magician, they are pushing the lies that people will smoke if they start vaping. All of this is the tip of the iceberg in regards to FDA led stories but I want to share with you some actual facts when it comes to the epidemic of vaping teens in America. As of autumn 2018, there was an average of 56.6 million kids in school in America. The figure vaping according to the FDA is 3.6 million kids total. This means there is a total of only 6% of the kids in America vaping, which calls into question the whole media campaign to protect the children. What statistic isn’t released however is what percentage of teens smoke or did smoke. I have that statistic as well. In 2017, 5.4 percent (about 1.3 million) of American teens smoked. Which means ladies and gentleman, the FDA are so hell bent on stopping vaping, they are ignoring the almost identical amounts of teens smoking. So the general campaign of stopping vaping and even banning it in America for the fear of teens vaping is actually far from the reality of the situation. This suggests to me that the agenda for vaping is through financial issues rather than the public health concern of America’s teens. It was reported a few years ago that states such as California were dependant on smokers and the tax they brought in, with them being the first state to outright ban it, it isn’t hard to see where the motivation is coming from behind America’s attitude towards vaping.

I have barely scratched the surface when it comes to how media is perceiving vaping but even the above points can’t deny that there is a direct prejudice towards the industry. Since vaping became mass market, we have seen health of people sky rocket whilst the health issues that come from vaping reduce. We have seen the biggest drop in smokers in history, millions worldwide have made the switch and yet if you read about it via the news, you would think that the public are in as great a danger as before. The media seem to dismiss the research findings year upon year to peddle a propaganda campaign which is essentially putting more people at risk. Every negative story that is believed by a smoker is potentially condemning them to death, actually consider that as a closing argument.
