Greeks swim for sight at Anchor Splash Sarah Rogers Printz writer Delta Gamma’s 40th annual Anchor Splash took place Thursday on campus at the M.C. Johnson Natatorium, with King Neptune held on Wednesday. King Neptune is a fraternity dance contest held every year the day before Anchor Splash. The winning fraternity then has a king who sits on his throne the next day at Anchor Splash. There were a variety of dances at this year’s King Neptune. The show started off with Delta Tau Delta dancing to the song “I’m On a Boat.” Some other highlights of the different performances include a few Justin Bieber impersonations, several different types of stunts and flips and even an appearance by Seymour in Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s routine. Phi Kappa Tau won King Neptune this year for the fifth year in a row. Andrew Green was the Justin Bieber impersonator in their performance.

Health Care forum gives perspectives on reform The College of Health held the second forum in its series, called “Perspectives on Health Care Reform – Which way forward?” which aimed to discuss the facts about health care reform. The forum, which took place Thursday, discussed the state of Mississippi and the need for some kind of reform in order for the state, as well as its residents, to push forward. Five professional panelists from different associations such as Hattiesburg Clinic,

Mississippi Nurses Association, Mississippi Health Advocacy Association, and also Professor Ed Tucker, a visiting Professor from here at Southern Miss spoke and answered questions. Each panelist was allowed to speak on their area of health care as well as provide possible solutions and suggestions while also remaining unbiased. Ryan Kelly, director of external relations helped initiate the program and felt the panelists were selected efficiently. “With health care reform as delicate of a subject as it is, we wanted a panel that would be very objective with their

analysis and present the facts as they currently stand,” he said. Kelly was content that there were community members present who showed interest and had good questions for the panelists. Michael Forster, professor of social work and dean of the college of health, went to the forum and described the topic of health care as something that should be talked about continuously. The forum, for him, merely scratched the surface of the problem and the question of how to progress forward, he said, is unclear. “The consensus of our five experts seemed that, in the words of

Dr. Campbell, ‘the system is really screwed up’. Health care is such a vital public policy issue because it affects literally everyone, and every aspect of our nation’s economic life,” Forster said. He mentioned that any step forward in health care will have to be a cautious one and the step is sure to have big consequences socially, politically and economically. The final forum in the series, entitled “Does Health Care have an Electronic Future?” takes place on March 31. The forum will discuss how technology has progressed the health care system forward

and how such technologies will hold up in clinical settings. The college of health hopes that this event will bring more students and community members with questions. According to Forster, such a topic to plague our state is important for students to understand not only for their health, but because reform in health care will bring about more job opportunities. “Health care ... is one of the most promising areas students can look to for meaningful and well-compensated professional careers,” he said.
