THE CROW SHOW 2017 By popular demand, The Studio Door presents the third annual national exhibition celebrating the beauty and mystery of our feathered neighbors. Throughout the world, crows and ravens have taken on a special significance due to their dark presence in the skies and their surprising interaction in our communities. In folklore, they appear frequently as both the hero and the villain. They arrive as tricksters, disguised sorcerers and experienced travelers. For some, the raven is associated with death, war and evil. For others, the crow appears with great wisdom, fertility and good news. The stories are as complex and surprising as the birds themselves. Look out your window and you may spy these birds living among you. Crows and ravens are members of the Corvidea family, along with magpies and blue jays. They are found all over the globe with only the exception of Antarctica. They are considered to be extremely intelligent, social creatures. In the art world, these magnificent birds appear with meaning and symbolism. The artistâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s creative fascination makes them the perfect subject for an in-depth exploration of art being created today. The Crow Show 2017 showcases the works of diverse, continental artists as they question the meaning of black birds in todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s world.

Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Wausau, Wisconsin BIRDS IN ART The Woodson Art Museum has organized Birds in Art â&#x20AC;&#x201C; an international, juried exhibition â&#x20AC;&#x201C; annually since 1976. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue and following its debut in Wausau, Wisconsin, sixty artworks travel to multiple venues each year.

Kathy Kelsey Foley

Director Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Kathy Kelsey Foley has the distinction of having served as director of the Woodson Art Museum twice, her tenures separated by seven years; she returned to the Woodson in March 1998. Kathy received her undergraduate degree in art history from Vassar College and a Masters degree also in art history from The John Hopkins University. Her museum training and corporate experience include stints at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; The Dayton Art Institute; Northwestern Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Block Museum of Art; and the Gap, where she served as manager of corporate internal communication. Kathy was inducted as a Fellow of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters in April 2014.
