The Journal of the Real Desert
Introducing The Sun Runner The Journal of the Real Desert The Sun Runner began publishing on January 1, 1995. The magazine began as an arts & entertainment magazine for the communities near Joshua Tree National Park. In 2004, the magazine began expanding to cover the Palm Springs area, then the California deserts from the Mexican border through Death Valley. In 2012, The Sun Runner and Coachella Valley Studios Entertainment began production on a new PBS TVseries about the Southwest, slated to begin airing by Labor Day, 2013. The Sun Runner is now moving to include all of the Southwest in its editorial coverage and distribution to complement and support the new television show.
Working with The Sun Runner The Journal of the Real Desert The Sun Runner's approach differs dramatically from most corporate media. We're an independently-owned small business, and we believe strongly in community. We're looking to build long term relationships across the Southwest, and we like to partner with businesses, organizations, and individuals to provide a platform for many voices, and to support the success of our communities, however they choose to define that success. We work with businesses, organizations, and individuals on a number of levels. While we rely on advertising revenue to pay the bills, we're not just selling ads. We're collaborative in nature and have enjoyed great success partnering to promote tourism, business, attractions, and events. This presentation will outline some of the ways we can partner for the success of our communities. If you have questions, please contact us at publisher@thesunrunner.com.
How Chambers of Commerce can work with
The Sun Runner The Journal of the Real Desert We love to support local chambers of commerce across the Southwest. They're a vital connection to the local communities across the region. But to be honest, there are hundreds and hundreds of chambers in the Southwest, and we simply cannot afford to join all of them. We have, however, come up with a win-win approach that allows us to become members, and the chambers to engage in tourism and economic development outreach. Simply put, we trade advertising space for membership. What you get as a chamber is a year's worth of advertising worth approximately $600 and a regular presence in the magazine. What we want in return is to be listed and acknowledged as a chamber member, and to have our offers for chamber members to advertise and/or to subscribe or become distribution locations included in chamber newsletters and communications the same way any other member's announcements would be handled.
How Non-Profit/Community Organizations can work with
The Sun Runner The Journal of the Real Desert We also love to support arts, cultural, historical, and community organizations across the Southwest. They perform a vital role in the health of the communities across the region. But just like the chambers of commerce, there are thousands of organizations in the Southwest, and we simply cannot afford to join all of them. We have created a win-win approach that allows us to become members, and the organizations to engage in meaningful outreach through the magazine. As with the chambers, we trade advertising space for membership. What you get as an organization is a year's worth of advertising worth approximately $600 and a regular presence in the magazine. What we want in return is to be listed and acknowledged as a member, and to have our offers for members to advertise and/or to subscribe or become distribution locations included in newsletters and communications the same way any other member's announcements would be handled.
More ways to work with...
The Sun Runner The Journal of the Real Desert While trading ad space for membership and exposure to members is a good first step (the more we grow, the more readers we reach, and the more readers we reach, the more everyone benefits from the relationship), we can work with chambers and organizations in other ways as well. In fact, many of these opportunities can be put to use whether or not your chamber or organization engages in our ad trade for membership offer...

Whether we're meeting travelers in person at travel shows like the LA Travel & Adventure Show, or tour operators at the International Tour Operators Pow wow, as we have, or we're personally leading tours to attractions in your area (we've begun by leading tours to the northern Mojave and Little Petroglyph Canyon), we want our region's communities to succeed in whatever ways they deem to be important. Advertising with The Sun Runner not only supports our efforts to promote our region, but it is an effective means to reach more than a quarter million readers per year.
