The Tech Academies of Innovation is a partnership with schools in underserved communities to build model programs for teaching STEM.

The Tech Academies of Innovation, a program of The Tech Museum of Innovation in downtown San Jose, aids in building model STEM programs in schools to nurture the next generation of Silicon Valley innovators.

This program is aimed at public school teachers, after-school staff, principals and school districts seeking: • NGSS- and CCSS-aligned support for integrating instruction around real-world problems.

In Spring 2017, four local schools will be selected for a three-year partnership with The Tech, joining a growing network of model STEM schools for cross-curricular engineering professional development and resources for Grades 4-8. Supports will focus on the engineering design process, mechanical engineering, software engineering and 21st-century skills. Participants will be selected through a competitive application process, and cohorts of four to seven members will be comprised of teachers and after-school providers.

• Long-term solutions that sustain model STEM programming in schools and districts.

• Resources and professional development in engineering and 21st-century skills.

Eligible schools must meet the following requirement: • At least 40% of students must receive free/reduced lunch. Preferred: • At least 40% of students are of Hispanic, African American, American Indian or Pacific Islander origin. How your school will benefit from this program: • Stipends, subsidies and support to develop educational leaders. • Guidance on lesson design and resources to support engineering instruction in the classroom and after-school programs. • Priority spots for professional development opportunities at The Tech, corporate donations and grant-funded field trips.
