On behalf of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries, and in cooperation with the Department of National Defence (DND), the Canadian Textile Industry Association and the CTT Group, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2012 Soldier Systems Conference and Tradeshow, our first year of presenting this new event property. I want to recognize and thank our speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and organizing committee for their willingness to contribute to this important event.
The tradeshow will feature suppliers and manufacturers who will showcase their technologies and solutions in the soldier system domain. The program has dedicated times for interaction between exhibitors and delegates to discuss new innovations and capabilities in support of the Soldier System Program. I encourage you to visit all of the exhibits over the next day and half to learn about the newest capabilities in this domain. The second day of the event will feature B2B and B2G meetings, which will provide government and industry representatives the opportunity to further network through pre-booked meetings with other industry participants, government officials, and representatives from government innovation programs.
The Soldier System Conference and Tradeshow has been organized as part of DND and industry’s commitment to implement the government’s Soldier System Technology Roadmap exercise of 2009-2011. SMART BEACON
Adventure Lights has developed a small wearable beacon that can be synchronized to work with other beacons, in a network and group, for quick visual ID of friendly forces in contact situations. This will allow commanders and fire support units to quickly apply fire or make maneuver decisions, more readily identify IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) and increase both situational awareness and command and control. The system uses an Ad Hoc self repairing mesh network system that works independently but can also integrate with larger C4 Systems developed by Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Rockwell Collins and other providers. The beacons emit signatures in both the visible and infrared (near IR) ranges compatible with Night Vision Goggles. These signatures can be pre set, changed in the field or overwritten and addressed by close air support and command control.
