CADSI President’s Message

On behalf of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries, and in collaboration with the Department of National Defence (DND), the Canadian Textile Industry Association, and the CTT Group, I am pleased to welcome you to Soldier Systems Showcase 2013.

participants from industry, and representatives from government innovation programs.

Our thanks to the exhibitors, registrants, speakers, sponsors, and organizing committee for their contributions to this important event. We look forward to your feedback in person or by using the Conference Military operations are inherently dangerous. Soldiers and Trade Show survey provided. working across the full spectrum of operations assume calculated risks each day. Adversary strategies, techniques, tactics and technological capabilities are diverse: those who take to the field against us are adaptable, they seek to exploit vulnerabilities and regrettably, they can be deadly effective – as Canadians and allies witnessed in the decade-plus long mission in Afghanistan. The human dimension will always be at the heart of the effectiveness of the dismounted soldier – enabled by world-class equipment. The 2011-2025 Soldier System Technology Roadmap (SSTRM) initiative is a key driver for a ground-breaking collaboration between industry and government developing a complex and integrated system of advanced technological systems that incorporates “anything related to the life and work of a ground force combatant including integration with other platforms (e.g. vehicles).” We are pleased to be active proponents of this valuable work to enhance the survivability of the Canadian Army’s future soldier. I invite you to take advantage of all of the Showcase’s components: a trade show featuring the latest in technologies from suppliers and manufacturers; a conference program providing industry with perspectives on future possible needs of the Canadian Army, many of which are also applicable to allies; and significant B2B/B2G opportunities with government officials, 6 • 2013 Soldier Systems Showcase Guide and Directory

We can also provide these new products with the Cadpat prints for our troups. Come by our booth and see the new concept!

This will allow commanders and fire support units to quickly apply fire or make maneuver decisions, more readily identify IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) and increase both situational awareness and command and control. The system uses an ad hoc self-repairing mesh network system that works independently but can also integrate with larger C4 Systems developed by Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Rockwell Collins and other providers. The beacons emit signatures in both the visible and infrared (near IR) ranges compatible with Night Vision 2013 Soldier Systems Showcase Guide and Directory • 9
